We have just been for our first Sunday Lunch at the Olive Tree Bistro, wow!, what a feast. Lovely warm welcome, nice comfortable surroundings, excellent freshly cooked food. I had the Turkey and my Wife the Beef, came on a very hot plate with perfect Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, stuffing and gravy, plus lots of meat. Vegetables served separately in dish, 4 different veg plus cauliflower cheese and extra jug of gravy. We could not quite manage it all, just had a coffee afterwards. We came away feeling like we had eaten a very good well cooked meal. Definitely recommended and will return. Must add that all the Staff were lovely and welcoming.

We visited The Olive Tree for a midweek roast and it was amazing. There was a choice of meats, and it was so tender and delicious. Crispy roast potatoes and parsnip, season vegetables and the option of adding cauliflower cheese. There was an extra jug of gravy and sauces too. Follow that with a coffee and orange gateau with fruit compot and ice cream which was all included in the price, and a fabulous meal out was complete. Cannot fault anything about our food, and would highly recommend.

Great small site for camping and some food. The road noise isn’t an issue if you’re in a caravan, and it didn’t affect our 3 night stay.? Owner is straightforward and pleasant, food in the bistro was nice, and an issue with one of the dishes was quickly sorted, so no complaints. He’s trying hard here to make this work, and in a couple of years the site will be mature. I would come back any day.

We were staying a short walk from here at Jex Farmhouse B&B, and wanted somewhere to eat within walking distance so we could have a drink and not worry about driving, we booked in advance and we're glad we.did a.some.walkins had to be turned away. The menu has a couple of dishes covering each of the following cuisines, Italian, Spanish, Greek and Enlogsh, as well as a tapas/small plates menu. We had a couple of tapas between us followed by the 'Pastel de Pollo y Chorizo' (Chicken and chorizo pie with patatas bravas, cheese sauce, and salad). The food was absolutely delicious, very tatsy and nice and hot, the hosts were also very pleasent and friendly. We would happily visit again if in the area and sample.some.differnt tapas and other options in the menu. Very hearty portions and good value for money. Lynne & Stephen at Jex, said they reccomended the Olive Tree to their guests and state it is a big improvement on the 'Green Man' and somthing of benefit to the village.

So pleased that we tried the Olive Tree. Due to some inclement weather, we needed to find somewhere for dinner to celebrate my daughter’s 20th. They greeted us with a warm welcome and squeezed us all in and provided us with some excellent selections on the menu. So many pubs these days go for the obvious burger or fish n chips, but here we were open to choose Greek or Spanish options. Most of us went for Chicken Gyros, with one or two going for lasagne or the Steak, kidney and ale pie. No one was disappointed. Great big dinners and smiles all around, we will definitely return. Many thanks to our lovely host, Holly, who made every attempt to keep us topped up with drinks, condiments and fabulous suggestions from the menu. I’m told the Sunday lunch is magnificent too, so if you’re wondering where to go for a great meal when in North Norfolk, try the Olive Tree, you will be glad you did.

Each time we enjoyed delicious and well cooked meals. Lovely atmosphere. If we're down that way again, we'll certainly call in at the Olive Tree. 5 stars

Found this gem on the way home from a day out. The lady that greeted us was lovely, I believe her name was Gail. As we were there before 5, we had our choice of where we wanted to sit, then had a nice drink before ordering our food. My husband had a pizza and fries, grandson had the same, but as a child's portion, both were of a decent size. I had the gammon steak, and I have never had one like it before, this was not your thin round Frisbee that your normally get from a supermarket, it was a full on thick steak! All meals were really well cooked served. Desserts were good too. I would recommend to anyone, wouldn't mind going back sometime to try the tapas menu. Well done everyone at The Olive Tree!

We had a wonderful evening. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and service quick but relaxed. 3 of us had 7 tapas dishes which was just right, but we were very hungry and would probably normally have 6. The food was delicious, we also had one very tasty sticky toffee pudding between 2 of us. The Olive Tree now feels like the best of your local pub, together with international food (although the Sunday roasts get good reviews). Would highly recommend for a non pretentious, high quality evening out. Looking forward to the spring and having a nice glass of wine early evening in the garden.

We visited on Christmas Eve afternoon and found it very disappointing. We were looking forward to seeing the refurbishment and the pub re-opened for business. We also have a campervan so the pitches at the back of the pub were of interest to us. We actually, by coincidence, used to own a bar in Spain called El Olivo (the Olive Tree) and were, therefore, interested to see the Spanish tapas menu. When we entered the bar, there was one group there. They looked like they had finished eating and were just having a few drinks and one table of two, eating. We weren’t greeted in a particularly friendly manner and the landlord didn’t speak to us whilst pouring our drinks. I tried to start a conversation by saying how good it was to see the pub open again and he replied with one word…….yeah! That was it!! Although both he and his wife/partner were standing behind the bar whilst we sat and finished our drinks, neither of them made any attempt to speak to us. We asked to look at the menu and were handed a copy, without comment. I do have a thing about misspelling and Harty (instead of Hearty) soup jumped out from the page at me! We had one drink and left. I tried to wave goodbye but no-one looked in our direction. Not even a Merry Christmas wish, nor Happy New Year! Unfortunately, we won’t be rushing back. So very disappointing.

We had spent some time looking for a cake and coffee stop and found this hidden gem by chance. We came quite late in the day so there was not as much choice of cake as there could have been but the rocky road we had was the best we have ever tasted. Absolutely amazing. The man who was looking after us was so friendly and made our visit very very enjoyable. Thank you

This is a very special hotel indeed. Kept, by its exuberant owner, in 1920’s style in homage to Agatha Christie who used to stay there. Full of old pictures and bits and bobs. Our bedroom ( medium size) was very comfortable with fun roll top bath but has modern amenities as well. But was next to the kitchen extractor fan which was noisy until 11 pm All the staff, mainly young people, were outstandingly helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and it was the type of service I haven’t seen for many years. Well done. It is also highly popular , and full the nights we were there. Largely I suspect because of the combined dinner, bed and breakfast offerings. At very good value for money. The food was generally delicious and fresh. Duck, halibut, sea trout and the local crab and lobsters were outstanding but the “locally caught king prawns which, like the lobster, were landed today “ were obviously frozen as were tasteless and they ( king prawns) don’t live in UK waters. That was the only disappointment on the menu, which I wouldn’t have mentioned except they had been really hyped up by the enthusiastic person I assume was the owner. Good well chosen wine list and fine cocktails The reason I haven’t given five stars is with the regimented way guests eat. Severe set 25 minute table timings for breakfast and dinner. I do understand that the kitchen needs to be paced to cook such good food to order, but the timings on offer were not good for many of the customers. By the time we arrived to check in at 3pm after a long drive we had to settle for a 6.30 supper and 9.15 breakfast. The next day breakfast wasn’t available until 9.30 … hopeless for anyone who works or has to leave earlier.. and I overheard two couples saying their 6.30pm slot was far too early for dinner , but that was all that was left because the best table times had already been given to people from outside who had booked in for a meal. You are asked to go to the bar half an hour before your meal where you receive some underwhelming amuse bouche and are expected to buy a drink whilst perusing the menu. This is to help the chef timings but also allows for tables to be turned over and reset. The last day we were there the small bar was over crowded and we had to wait an hour to be shown our table. Service was then very slow. I just couldn’t eat rich food at 9pm having waited by then two and a half hours. So because I prefer more personalised service and eating at a time that suits my stomach, and I like to be sat at my table and not held in a “ holding pen” this is not an experience I personally wish to experience again. Having said that I realise that this hotel really does suit many of its guests, who really loved it. So it’s only my own opinion and I suspect I’m in a very small minority
