This eating establishment is located on the main street in a very commercialised area. The unimposing frontage hides a two storey dining area that was well laid out with a high standard of cleanliness throughout. The steep stairs leading to the upper floor eating area would make it extremely difficult to access, as well as the toilets on the same level. Both the male and female cubicles were clean and provided with hot and cold running water, soap and paper towels. We ordered a goat cheese in a seeded pannini, salad and tea, as well as fresh orange juice and a brie baguette with cranberry and a small side dish of crisps; all of which were tasty. The bill of £18.60 was considered high. The male youth who took and brought our order was absolutely "professional" and offset the curt female. Service can be slow, as was evidenced by a party of three walking out as they were ignored at the expense of dealing with incoming diners.

Chose a quiet time as seating upstairs but limited to half dozen tables Had used before to send hamper to a family member, but our first chance to use the restaurant Good range of choices on the menu, and also serve some alcohol if required My wife and i chose salad, my wife had vegetarian quiche and i opted for the homity pie and i excluded cous cous as not a lover Food service was fast and efficient And very tasty indeed with a strawberry and mint balsamic choice for the salad dressing, so nice we bought a bottle on way out My wife decided not to stay in for dessert but chose a chic brownie which was in her words ‘absolutely delicious’ Worth calling in restaurant prices good value, service good, food excellent, but do enjoy the store area as great delicatessen expect to buy something 😁

We’d never eaten at The Olive Tree previously, so this was a ‘lucky dip’ choice, but what a good one! The food was really good, well-presented and full of Mediterranean flavour. We had the smoked mackerel paté and Italian meats to start (excellent), followed by the fish of the day, which was gurnard, and The Spectacular, a great dish of mussels, king prawns, sea trout, gurnard and other seafood, all cooked in a white wine sauce, again absolutely fantastic. Most definitely we will eat here again. Highly recommended.

On a shopping trip, popped in here. We both ordered Baked Potato (one with Cheese & Tomato, one with Chicken/ Bacon/ Sweetcorn Mayonnaise …. fillings can be taken from the baguette menu ) ...... Absolutely Blooming Fantastic! Cooked & presented to perfection, with a lovely side-salad (a good choice of dressings) & homemade Coleslaw. It's so easy to make a meal like this but it is very hard to make it special ..... that was done here in spoonful's & very, very tasty. I felt sorry for the waitress, who doesnt need gym membership due to popularity of the restuarnt and the times travelled up & down the steep stairs. A good large sized delicious pot of tea and very good quality coffee ... we purchased Black Bomber Cheese (not available in many places) on the way out ...Simply Made Special Taste!

This place was on the way & looked really nice so we went in. Chris had a hot chocolate & I had a flat white with an extra shot, & we treated ourselves to a couple of cakes as well. There were lots of other things from the deli counter to tempt us, but it was the first week of January & we still had a fridge full of Christmas food! My daughter and I had a very pleasant lunch here last week. I had the asparagus and mushroom quiche which came with salad garnish, potato salad, coleslaw and cous cous which I enjoyed very much. My only criticism would be that the quiche could have done with a bit more asparagus and mushroom in it as the overriding flavour was of cheese! My daughter ordered a panini which came with a salad garnish. It not only looked lovely but it was apparently, plenty of filling and very tasty. We were pleased too with the range and quality of the teas on offer as well as the service we received and the atmosphere of the place. A return visit is on the cards!

Lunch on a Saturday. The seated cafe is up a steepish flight of stairs and we should have responded to our first reaction viz, scruffy in need of re-decoration and refurnishing - but we stayed. The promise of ingredients from the downstairs deli' and menu said baguettes were made fresh daily etc etc. The baguette we shared was of very poor supermarket quality and tasted fresh straight from the freezer. The filling of brie, bacon and advocate can be summarised as - good brie, awful pre-cooked and served cold bacon, unripe advocado A comment to the staff about the cold bacon was simply greeted with diffidence. This place needs a make-over and change of cook. Service was perfunctory. To be avoided.

I've been to this café many times before and found the food to be tasty and reasonably priced. We went up the narrow stairs to the main part of the restaurant where the lovely lady who served us could not have been more pleasant. They had run out of the pasta special by 1245 so my wife ordered quiche, I had a very nice jacket potato with avocado and bacon and brie. Unfortunately when we came to pay and offered our money my wife mentioned to the lady that although everything else was great, the thin pastry on the quiche was raw and so she could not eat it. There were asparagus shoots lying in the bottom of the quiche which we think had added water to the pastry. All of the pastry was left on her plate. The lady passed our money back and asked us down stairs to tell the chef and told us to pay down there. The Chef/owner effectively called us liars and said oh yes it was cooked and it had been in his oven for an hour. He then proceeded to make it clear that he did not want to know our problem and he obviously thought we were trying to ask for a discount. My wife politely explained again that the pasty might have been in his oven, but would he come and see the offending food still on her plate upstairs. Clearly he was not prepared to go up the 2 flights of narrow stairs to be proved wrong. No apology! We reminded him that we had not yet paid, so with a scowl he took our money, in full, and that was that. He has just lost my regular custom and my friends too!

After a busy morning Christmas shopping my husband and I were relieved they were serving lunch after 2.30pm. We chose this place as have been before and like to support local businesses rather than chains. When we arrived the only table for 2 we could see had not been cleared so we made our way to a larger table which was laid...a man came over and said "Ok, if you must in a very rude tone! Not "Good afternoon, I hope you don't mind but if I clear a smaller table perhaps you could sit there?" He pointed to a cramped corner table but my husband suggested we would like a bit more room and asked if the other table could be cleared which he agreed to with equal impatience!Very rude and unhelpful so promptly left and enjoyed a lovely lunch at a nearby chain with friendly polite staff!

We just happened upon this place on our way through Taunton. It looks lovely outside and in and their menu was just what we were after so we stopped for lunch. We both had homity pie which came with a range of salads including potato salad and which was really very tasty indeed. We had yerba mate tea with it as tehy do a fantastic range of teas (teapigs ones) which are also for sale there. We had such a good lunch that we picked up some bits there for later including some lovely local cheese and some home baked breads (their spelt rolls were lovely and soft) and some excellent granola. The atmosphere was very nice - there's a table downstairs (which was perfect for us as we were on bicycles and parked them the other side of the window) but there's also lots more seating upstairs where there were quite a few other customers. The toilets are upstairs so may be tricky if stairs are a challenge for you. Otherwise the place is fantastic and I would certainly go back if I'm in Taunton again (I reckon I would be a regular here if I lived in the area!).

We didn’t stay at the hotel but had Afternoon Tea there which this review is about! Poor service as waiters seem to have no idea how to serve. We were rushed to pay as they were finishing for the day. We were not offered what type of tea to have. One of us asked for topping up the water glass while the other two got ignored! They had no knowledge of the place either given it’s a building with some history! A refreshing conversation was with the gardener who has good knowledge of the place, but unfortunately it was too late.

Absolutely incredible dinner with faultless service and extremely reasonable prices . I would highly recommend this first class restaurant
