The Olde Dog Inn in Brentwood

I would recommend this pub to anyone. The food was good with a good selection on the board and the main menu. The desserts were lovely. There was a good selection of draught beers on tap and the staff were great.

We went on a Friday for fish and chips. The food was lovely, beer and wine good. Service excellent from friendly staff. We’ll definitely go again.

We had a really nice Sunday lunch for my parents’ birthdays yesterday - the food was home cooked and very tasty, service very efficient and the environment was cosy. We were really surprised how reasonable the price was when the bill arrived too. Will definitely be returning!

VISITED 2 DAYS RUNNING BOTH DAYS EVERYTHING VERY GOOD, SERVICE HAPPY WITH A SMILE, fOOD, VARIED MENU A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE NORM EVERY DISH WAS WELL PORTIONED WELL COOKED AND CAME AS A DISH WITHOUT HAVING TO ORDER VEG SEPARATELY. SPACING BETWEEN TABLES WAS A LITTLE TIGHT BUT UNDERSTANDABLE AND IT WAS SUFFICIENT. WE WILL BE BACK.

A lovely Sunday roast at The Olde Dog, Herongate. Huge carpark. Good value for money and efficient, friendly service. A highlight for us was the excellent beer - a good range of different beers and good quality. Not too much choice for dessert; as someone who doesn't like chocolate - I would have liked to have seen a crumble on the menu.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly efficient staff and great food. We will definitely be back.

First visit to the Dog Inn, Sunday roast was good but the condition both ladies and gents toilet’s were in poor condition.

Lovely Sunday roast - great potatoes ! The young staff members were very pleasant. Only problem, I couldn't tip as much as I wanted to, as the tip cannot be added to the card machine and I only had limited cash. Will definitely go again

Been to this wonderful pub a ew times. Lovely food, lovely staff and generally a really nice atmosphere. Pretty good value for money too.

Cosy comfortable surroundings, staff were delightful and efficient. Unfortunately the food was over cooked and the menu choice was limited.

Haven’t been here for years but the food and service were still as good as I remembered! Beef pie was delicious, as was the raspberry and white chocolate meringue roulade. Would recommend.

We both only had a main course of Haddock & chips, which was lovely. It arrived piping hot, with mushy peas in it's own pot and also Tartare sauce in a separate pot. The Waitresses were very kind, efficient and polite and the food was very reasonable. The only negative point was that it was a bit drafty in the back room.

Cold inside. Side order came after I had eaten my main. Dirty and musty smell all around. A table next to us spilt a pint of shandy which dripped on the chair next to me and it never got wiped. The shandy also sprayed onto my coat!

The Olde Dog is a good old fashioned country pub. Where you receive a warm welcome. Comfortable surroundings.The food is wholesome and plentiful. The menu may not be the biggest but the quality is fantastic. All washed down with a good ale.

The Olde Dog is the lunch venue for the meeting with former colleagues. It’s convenient for us all to travel and we keep returning since the food is of a high standard and we like the ambiance of the restaurant. Would thoroughly recommend!

Fantastic specials board. Good choice of cask ales. Definitely be back for a mid week lunch.

We enjoyed our lunch. Polite friendly and very helpful staff. Good value. We would have loved the food to be a bit hotter but definitely recommend and would go again.

I can’t understand why this restaurant isn’t packed out. The food and service was excellent. We have been here many times and never had a bad experience. We dined Saturday night and would have thought it would be a lot busier. I think they also have a large selection of real ales too if that your thing. Anyway leaving this positive review as I think they deserve it. Thanks.

There was a good selection of food choices, which is sometimes worrying, but not here. We all enjoyed our dishes and the service was great. Friendly pub, good, reasonably priced food and plenty of space.

It's a lovely old pub with a welcoming atmosphere and great beer. Unfortunately the food was below par. Insulted by price given portion size of cauliflower starter, definitely did not taste or look freshly prepared.(Iceland maybe). Salmon and noodles so oily it spoiled it and risotto was a congealed blob. Did not resemble risotto rice at all. Very expensive for a non meat dish. Lamb shank however was outstanding. The local beer saved the day. The pud style dinners coming out however look great. Should have stuck to 'something' and chips. Those portions look great. The beer saved the day. Would go back but maybe only to drink now.

Very nice food, quite a lot of choice but just like numerous other restaurants it’s either chips or mash. What ever happened to roast or boiled potatoes. Only other comment was that the service was very slow. Wait nearly 45 minutes for our food.

Not been here before, chose it because it was one of the few places open on a monday and we like to try different restaurants. We had a fabulous lunch, went off the specials board and wasn't disappointed! Lovely staff, accommodating, great ambience, will definitely be back again! Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

The pork and beef you could not chew, roast potatoes were hard

It wasn’t great . We wouldn’t go back . The staff were nice but the food was very average for the money . The halloumi sticks were over a £1 each ! I had the pie of the day which was very dry , no sauce with it and frozen veg . Really not great . It was cold when we got there so had to keep our coats on . Very underwhelming experience .

The staff were very helpful. My sister was late for the time we booked I explained the situation and it wasn’t a problem. We had a lovely meal we weren’t hurried in any way. In fact we spent a lovely afternoon there.

First time in several years that we’ve been to the old dog inn. Went because of historic use by ourselves and guests. Restaurant was very quiet but many in bar area making quite a bit of noise. Good menu choice. Place very clean

Very picturesque venue, lots of room. Service was very good, as was the food.

We had a roast dinner of turkey & all the trimmings, one of my roast potatoes on the outside was a bit chewie so only ate half, the rest of the dinner was good especially the meat. I had an Eton Mess which was delicious, my partner had cherry sponge pud & custard. All good. My only gripe was we would of preferred the gravy separate rather than already on our dinner.

Couldn’t fit out plates on the table it was that narrow- got our food and then no cutlery and it seemed like such a chore to get it Food was far too overpriced- £18 for ham egg and chips

Our second visit here. The food was good. I had the Hunters chicken and Cherry Bakewell pudding. Is it just me or should plates be collected when everyone has finished their meal. I was still eating mine.

Beautiful historic inn. When making booking we weren’t made aware that it was a Quiz night which made conversation within our party difficult

Lovely county pub was the only people in the restaurant, requested Irish coffee. Waitress was unsure what it was then was told unable to have it as kitchen was shut and it was only 9pm !! Order hunters chicken came as burger and the bun was cremated.

Kitchen stopped taking orders at 8pm which I thought was early.... unfortunately my guest got held up in traffic for our booking of 7.30 so everything felt a bit rushed!

We had a very pleasant evening. The staff were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. The surroundings were clean and comfortable and we were able to hold proper conversations and hear each other, despite there being a large, young family at the next table. The food was tasty and plentiful. The only thing that let it down was that it appeared to be slightly overcooked (or maybe the oil was getting a little old). We were not rushed and were given plenty of time between courses. All in all we had a very good experience here.

Firstly the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to take our time and were not rushed at all. There were three of us and we each ordered different meals but we agreed that they were all delicious. Unlike a lot of places these days the restaurant was reasonably quiet even though it was busy. We are looking forward to going back soon.

Friendly good service. Value for money and good food

Unfortunately the service today was not great. It took 30 mins to come and take order, starter delivered to wrong table and had to be requested. Main only 2 meals delivered, had to remind them about 3rd which was then the wrong meal. By this time enough was enough.

We were looking for some where for a spot of lunch, nothing too heavy, I had a hot chicken ciabat Roll, my wife couldn't fine any think, so went for the Ploughman's lunch, both Food, Ambient, and price was good. Our waitress was attentive. Glad we booked though, start getting busy around 1/1.30. We will go back in the evening for a meal.

A mid week lunch catching up with family and it couldn’t have been better. Everything about this place clicked on the day that we visited and was faultless from the time we walked through the door. Welcoming staff, excellent choice of both food and drink all served with a smile 😊. All our choices were available and the food was well presented with excellent portion size. We have eaten there on many occasions and always look forward to dining there but our guests (who are from outside the area), were more than pleasantly surprised and commented that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So we’ll done to the Old Dog team for a 10 out of 10 lunch!

Food was high standard, with lots of choices and good prices. Spacious eating areas and friendly staff. Would definitely go again.

Arrived 2.15 was going to get a drink at the bar 1st but was led straight to our table table which was booked for 2.30. Sat for quite a while so I went up to get our drinks, waitress than ushered me back to table for our order. Vegetables were too hard for our liking. But the rest of the food was spot on.

We have visited the Olde Dog many times and this visit was no exception. Good food, good beer and good service. Excellent value for money.

We usually visit in the evening ; this was our first lunch here. We had to wait an unusually long time for our food with no explanation given until we asked. ( It was not busy at all) The food was ok, but the whole experience was not as good as we’d had before. This sounds petty, but the white wine ordered was not as chilled as it should be.

Fantastic food, had the Asian rib. Garden needs attention as furniture very old, warped and dirty. Unfortunate occasional smell from septic tank ☹️

With two former colleagues we have returned to this pub. It’s nice and quiet so that when we laugh out loud, nobody can complain. The food is good too……otherwise we wouldn’t return. I would certainly recommend.
