Wandering around York this morning, looking for bacon and sausage baps, we stumbled across this delightful cafe. From the minute we stepped through the door, the friendly welcome was second to none. Such a beautiful quaint building with the owner telling us the history whilst taking our order. We were quickly seated, with the drinks and food following shortly afterwards. Fresh baps, more than enough filling for them and a glorious caramel ice cream frappe/ milkshake for my hubby. The experience was delightful 😊. We chatted as we left and offered high praise for such a short time we were there, but this is a must for anyone who wants quaint, history and friendly people.

Small and Friendly. You can feel the love of both owners for their ‘baby’. Had a bacon sandwich. Bacon is excellent not salty. Bread is the perfect. Sit a table 1 if solo or a couple for a great view of the local wildlife in the churchyard. As a local I have only managed a visit a few times as there are always queues. The cakes are home baked. Tomas and Tony deserve all the praise.

Went to the tea rooms yesterday and what a wonderful welcome from Thomas and Tony who own the tea room, they make you feel like friends that have popped in for a chat. We had the sharing cake board and oh my was it delicious. The atmosphere of the building and the welcome is worth going for. Will be back

My first visit to this amazing tea room but certainly won't be the last. Thomas and his team are just hospitality at it's best. Service impeccable, cake's outstanding and coffee great. What a beautiful tearoom with pretty surroundings in keeping with the building. We will certainly be back. Thank you for a lovely time

We called in here today for a coffee and cake and I just wanted to leave a review because the owners of this little gem of a cafe are so delightful :). We shared two gorgeous cakes with our coffees whilst sat upstairs admiring the building and its fabulous setting. Lots of choice - we will have to come back again! Thank you for having us.

Absolutely beautiful place, lovely historic building such a beautiful setting for our cuppa and cake. The owners are lovely people passionate and friendly, really really recommend this place for anyone visiting York or use it more if you live there!

Having followed The Old York Tea Room on FB and seen so many posts of their mouthwatering bakes, I've been meaning to pop in for ages. Today was our first visit and it definitely lived up to expectation: The venue is fabulously quirky and food delicious with a great choice of savoury options along with lots of yummy cakes to choose from. The paninis were so good but very filling so I'm glad we opted for cake to go! Despite being very busy, the staff were all so lovely and very welcoming - especially to Patrick, our French Bulldog! We will definitely go back again soon!

Called here for dessert after lunch elsewhere in the city. It's certainly a quirky spot. The building is tiny and dates back to the 14th century. You order downstairs - where one of the staff gave us a jolly and detailed description of the cakes on offer - and eat upstairs. The portions are huge. Too huge, to be honest. My companion had enough rocky road to serve three people and I struggled a bit to finish my (a little too sweet and sickly) toffee and raspberry cake. So not somewhere to go to if you're on a diet!

Lovely looking tea room stopped by for a lotus rocky road and a chocolate rocky road also. They're massive and so tasty. Definitely will return for more treats when I'm back in york.

Super food and excellent customer service...we did an event nearby and made sure to visit each day..loved the raspberry cake and cinnamon buns!!!

I took my two children 10 & 3, for hot chocolate and cake non of us were disappointed, the service and welcome was absolutely brilliant, we had rocky road chocolate orange, and Bakewell tart, the rocky road was absolutely fantastic, the cherry Bakewell must have been amazing I didn’t get a look in, both my children loved the building and the fact it was so old and beautiful, in fact a added a photo of my daughter face when she tired the rocky road she couldn’t believe how nice it was Thankyou!

Lovely little cafe, fantastic selection of cakes. Lovely coffee, friendly staff. We tried to get a seat when we visited York in December, but it was too busy. So pleased we managed to get a table today. We are here for the weekend & we plan on getting cakes to take home with us tomorrow.

Absolutely love this place :) 100% highly recommended if your thinking of going do it you will NOT be disappointed. The guys who run it are amazing so friendly & really love to make sure every customer is happy. The cakes are incredible, also has breakfast few weeks back that was very good too. What a gem. Outstanding service, fabulous coffee and sweet treats to die for. Definitely going on our "top 5" favourite venues in York. Just go , you won't be disappointed. You can taste the love that's gone into every bite.

Visited today with my friend. We were given detailed descriptions of every cake available then asked what colour teapot we wanted! It was super enchanting. I have not had such fantastic customer service in a long time. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Perfect spot for a filling lunch for two! The food is amazing and the service is prompt and friendly. Everything from the tea pots they used to learning about the history of the building - I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Definitely will be returning. Bought a tea with oat milk and chocolate cake to take away. The chocolate cake was so yummy, as usual. I love popping in here, the treats are always fantastic and the guys are always very welcoming and friendly.
