Each time I’ve been to the Thatch Inn, the food has been great. Big portions and tasty food. My last visit was with a group of 10, our food all came out at the same time and not one person had any complaints. Staff were attentive and friendly, in particular Michaela was great. Have always recommended this place to others and will definitely be back again very soon.

The wife was working, so I decided to go out with the children for something to eat. I had "The Thatch Sandwich". Biggest sandwich I ever saw. Delicious too. Loads of sides. 4 clean plates were left for the waitresses. Very enjoyable.

I would not recommend this establishment, purely on the basis it is that good . Us locals want to keep this gem to ourselves, The Staff and servers have got it right. I must also commend what comes through the kitchen doors, A culinary delight that is easy on the eye and scrumptiously designed for the palate. So voila, to the Chef.

Had a table booked for half 3. We arrived at 25 past 3. We sat down menus given and drink Order placed. That was the first sign as drinks took a while to come. After a while we will placed our food order. Nothing out of the ordinary all off the menu. Than we waited and waited. Three tables arrived after us. All were served food we stilled waited. We have a 13 month old child which was starting to get very restless (can you blame her waiting that long). In the end we paid for drinks and left at half 4. Still bloody hungry!

We stopped off to have lunch at the Thatch Inn on our way to Belfast to get the Christmas shopping started. I had never been before and didn't really know what to expect we had just heard a few people recommend it. It is a very cute little Irish cottage with a country pub feel. I was looking around inside thinking Americans or tourists would love this place, very nostalgic. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was lovely we had the special of the day, we really enjoyed it. Get handy stop off the M2 for food. I would visit again.

One small piece of advice is it could be better signposted!!

The food was absolutely dreadful the cajun chicken pasta was thick noodles chicken and what appeared bland insipid coagulated tin mushroom soup thrown over the top of it no seasoning whatsoever makes me feel sick thinking of it. We took the chicken for the dog. The teriyaki salmon on a bed of noodles was smeared in soya sauce the only taste in again a bland unappetizing dish. We have had these foods before in similar establishment's but this is one we will never forget and never frequent again all for the expense and awful food. As the waitress said when asked for the Thai curry we have Chinese curry like if you ordered a carry out because the Thai is too spicy oh boy i wish we had got a carry outit would have been cheaper more wholesome edible and a better experience

The roast meat was dried up ,The Yorkshire pudding was not fit to eat ,I could have kicked it home and it would be still be in the one piece. The stuffing had to be soaked in gravy as it was all dried up also . Asked the waiter for some cranberry sauce and we were told that they did not have any . We were asked about the meal when paying ,and when we told our complaints they said sorry about that and took all the money .Will DEFINITELY not be going back .

Husband had cheese &bacon.; It came with coleslaw&thin; fries(Great value@£5.90!) We’d coffees. Mine came bacon was RAW NO Brie-as it’s “only cooked in breadcrumbs”???! So had to get cheddar. French fries needed another few minutes! I told the Lovely wee girl that the bacon was Raw&un-eatable; and she offered to take it off the bill but it was hardly worth it. Popped in with my wife and 9 year old daughter on the way home from a day at Jungle NI. Beautiful old building with a very cosy atmosphere and a warm welcome. Good selection on the menu and a fantastic creamy pint of Guinness promised much. Was a little disappointed with the special of the day. The goujons were a little “soggy”. My wife’s pasta was rather bland. My daughters kids burger was very tasty. Portion sizes were good and all in all it was reasonably priced at under £40. Certainly worth a visit if in the vicinity.

We have been here a few times and it is a lovely place for food and a good standard. However, the row of permanent noisy male drinkers at the bar as you go in, at what seems like any time of the day, is very off putting. The Inn looks quaint and very inviting and is near Seamus Heaney's grave and Mossbawn. However, service is very slow and haphazard. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime and there was a set lunch, apparently. We opted for the a la carte menu and it was difficult to get consistent service. The food was okay. However, at the end of the meal, we ordered some tea/coffee and this led to totally unacceptable delays. In the end, we took takeaways, but would have been better advised to go to a motorway cafe.

Have visited twice in the past, once for lunch in November and once for dinner about 2 weeks ago & both times the restaurant was very busy with one bar staff & one waitress working. Food was well below average, ordered duck rolls which were burnt on one side & very under cooked on the other & served with a lemon wedge? Ordered a steak sandwich for main course with peppered sauce which was swimming in grease and also served with a lemon wedge. Had sweet potato fries for my side order and they tasted like they had been cooked in dirty oil, they were more edible than my main course however which I couldn't stomach. There was also a vegetable curry ordered but a chicken curry was served to the table. The waitress relayed the order back to us when she took it & it was correct so I can only assume it was a mix up in the kitchen. We didn't want to bring this up with the waitress as she was under pressure with the table beside us also sending food back to the kitchen & people waiting at the door. This being said she made the effort to come & check the table, offer drinks & have a bit of chat.I never got her name but this waitress is a credit to the place & the reason its a 3* review instead of a 1*. I think management need to employ more waiting staff & have a look at the kitchen staff! I doubt I'll return

Having Australian guests over to visit our family, we bought none other than to take hem to an old Irish thatch restaurant for dinner one night! I pre booked the table almost 2 weeks in advance. At the time of booking I was advised to give an email address for the menu to be sent to me to pre order food for our large group of 8 people! I explained that it wasn't ideal as two people weren't even in the country and were travelling and not contactable at the minute. I gave my email regardless and as I repeated it on numerous occasions I had a slight doubt that it had been taken down correctly. I also asked to be seated in the older part of the building which is old stone work rather than the new extension, this was no problem. On arrival last night, we were lead to the new section. I told the waitress we had asked to be seated in the old section! She said she would find out, she disappeared and never came back. We had to go and look for her. Another waitress was found and was very abrupt! She told us that yet didn't know we were coming and that we didn't reply to the email (which I never got surprise surprise)! I said that I had booked it and was this not enough? She argued that they had sent an email and became very rude. We were then told our table had been given to someone else who had been there from 3.30pm (we were there at 7.30pm) and that they took priority as it was a christmas do! Needless to say we walked out and found another restaurant! The staff were awful and I would highly recommend that no one should visit this place until the staff learn some basic manners and deal with their bookings better!!!

We always come on weekends to the Thatch Inn either for lunch or dinner with our wee daughter, upon arrival we receive a warm welcome from the front staff get seated promptly and asked for the order. Now the steak combo might seem a bit steep, but when you see the size of your sirloin and the medallion it is well worth it.The dish comes with a choice of side orders, i get the green beans and the garlic potatoes. The meat is cooked to perfection and dissolve like butter in your mouth, no need for extra sauce or gravy.I also tried the sunday roast and other dishes on the menu which i could not fault them.

Had always seen the sign for the Inn on the way to Belfast but had never stopped to eat so called in for dinner on the way home this evening. Very good service, helpful staff and excellent choice of menu. Would highly recommend.

We called in for evening meal told on arriving that we would have to wait for 20 mins on a table. Which was ok only there was numerous tables empty!! The reason became clear pretty soon after, we ordered did not wait long but when i asked for condiments (red sauce and vinegar) the one waitress we asked said yes but we would have to wait for a few minutes which turned into never ! Eventually my husband asked the barman who sorted us out l. All in all food was pretty bland and service was bad but to be fair the reason was probably a lack of staff... so a case of bad management.

Very pleasantly surprised at the size of this place and how warm and homely are all the little hidden corners. Service was great, food was good and very good value. You could make this a very regular visit. There is a beautiful painting of Seamus Heaney who was born about a field away and wrote Anahorish, Blackberry Picking, The Forge and many other great poems about the surrounding area. On the night I was there I was with a party of nearly twenty people and there wasn't any problems getting everything to the table together. A good ambience!

On the afternoon of Seamus Heaney (Nobel Prize for Literature) funeral I visited the thatch with a friend. We sat in Poets Corner and had a lovely meal. The menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Service was prompt and very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the servings were large.Would highly recommend this restaurant.

As a family we have Sunday lunch out on occasions and I have to say the Thatch is very hard to beat. Food is first class and hot and with good size portions. Staff are more than pleasant and helpful. I would definitely recommend as great value for money to top it off!!

I make a point of going to the thatch on a regular basis and I have to say, it continues to impress me every time. The interior matches the exterior perfectly, in that it's oldfashioned, with a warm cosy fire to great you as soon as you step inside from the cold weather. The staff are easy to talk to and are very helpful. The food, is absolutely brilliant, and I'm not easy to please, one of the hottest meals I've eaten, and the portions...my God they are hearty to say the least! Will no doubt be back again this weekend, there's still a few things i'm left to try on the menu!

I hadn't been in the thatch for some time an I'm surely never going back!! Menu is of very poor choice so opted for sirloin, as well you can go wrong with steak? Well Apparently you can!!! Meal arrived swimming in juice & grease, could not distinguish any original taste of any of the food, veg or otherwise, from the soup like grease, which waitress watched me pour this onto a bowl an then walked away knowing i wa unhappy!! I also had asked for my steak to be well done but here apparently you need to ask for it to be "very very very well done" chefs own words when I complained, that it was not cooked to my liking!!! my sons irish stew was also tough and under cooked, waitress agreed after tasting, this was taken off the bill, unfortunately this still did not makeup for the poor dining experience! All in all its clear that the recession has hit the thatch leaving it a bland &tasteless experience, one that would be best bypassed, in favour of another local establishment not far from this establishment, best booking a table tho as you could end up sacrificing Sunday lunch for a bowl of cereal like myself!!!

I was recommended the restaurant by friends who dine here often. Our family of 8 had sunday lunch and it was wonderful. The waitresses were very pleasant and attentive despite the restaurant being packed. Had a lovely chat with the owner who was helping out. The food was hot and tasty and very reasonably priced. The kids were really happy with their lunch also. We will definitely be going back to the thatch soon.

Food was good and well priced, Irish Stew was very meaty and filling, comfortable seating and some connection to Seamus Heaney who apparently came from the area with a large portrait on wall.

Called here for Sunday Lunch with my husband and we were delighted with both service and quality. Excellent two course meal for under £10, and service with a smile (sense of humour too). No problem with parking, real traditional charm. No hesitation in recommending The Old Thatch Inn.

After having a lovely day out on Sunday 25th August l decided to take my family for a meal at The Old Thatch which came highly recommended - WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. Table had been pre booked for 5pm , on ordering several dishes were unavailable ,we waited 55mins for the starters to arrive and asked waitresses to bring childs meal with the starters which they didn't after been asked a further 3 times. Main meals well where will l begin sirloin steak was full of fat, 2 meals were barely touched,1 meal was sent back ,chips champ and mash all cold. I had scampi which was nice but very overpriced for quantity.Sweet menu consisted of 3 sweets as again several were unavailable. We ordered a jug of juice which never came .Waitresses were very disorganized. When l complained about meals l was given an apology and told that they had had a very busy day and if l came during the week it would be different .Why should it be? l don't mind paying for good food and good service this was not the case at The Old Thatch

We stopped en route to the Giants Causeway for a drink and a snack. We had between us, chicken wings, garlic fries, chicken salad sandwich, beer, coffee and tea. Our beer expert reckoned it was one of the best pints he had ever had. The food was fine, the service was efficient and friendly , the atmosphere was friendly starting with the regular on the door who struck up a conversation with everyone going in. Lovely old interior with stone and beams and arches. The thatched roof a real appeal to casual customers driving by. Highly recommended for what we has, a mid day light lunch. They have a dinner menu also and I'm sure that too is very good.

Had a family get together here recently after seeing some positive reveiws - WAS I DISAPPOINTED. Bar staff were so unfriendly,it was nigh impossible to be served at the bar that seem to be completely blocked by unfriendly , and vergeing and ignornant locals.Felt very uncomfortable when the younger clientele started to become very rowdy and quite aggressive as they continued with their vodka binge. We left earlier than planned as the atomsphere became quite intolerable. This establishment has promoted itself as a cosy and friendly small country pub/eaterie, whioch in my opinion couldn,t be further from the truth.
