Had a delicious Sunday roast. Beef done just the way I like it. Very generous portions. It is expensive but well worth it because of the quality of the food. Staff are very friendly and helpful Toilets spotless Would recommend it, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion

Visited here recently. I am reluctant to give The Old Stables the review it actually deserves, for fear of not being able to get a table next time. So, against my better judgement here goes... Service in all honesty could have been better, as we had an inordinate wait for our mains. However, I cannot say just how good the roast dinners are here. Absolutely without question, THE nicest roast I have ever had the pleasure to eat. Every single ingredient on the plate was mouthwateringly yummy! I would happily have waited another hour had I known how good it was going to be? All credit to The Old Stable as they acknowledged the fact we had been kept waiting longer than they'd have liked, and discounted the bill accordingly. 10/10 for the overall experience.

First time here, really enjoyed it. Will book again ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was our first time here but it won't be our last. Food was excellent, service great and the atmosphere was lovely and friendly. Can't wait to return.

Had a celebration of life after my father's funeral here. (Hence the lack of stars for atmosphere) Staff were superb, communication, food, response to specific dietary requests all phenomenal. Thank you so much, my mum was delighted at such a hard time for her.

The wedding party took over 11 hours in 2 parts, and those people stayed all day, plus those that were working came at the night time.

Very slow service. 30 minutes to wait for a glass of wine. The food was just ok nothing special, chicken burger very dry. Service charge included and when I added a tip they didn't mention sc included so a bit sneaky. Wouldn't go back.

4 of us went for breakfast this morning after 2 of them had been before and loved it. Sorry to say we were very dissapointed. The waitress came for drinks order, 4 teas please. They arrived about 5 minutes later, warm but not hot. I asked for a pot of hot water which never arrived. I dont understand why they bring you hot drinks(in this case warm) way before your food arrives. We ordered our food which arrived about 40 minutes later, 2 big breakfasts and 2 porridge. The big breakfast had items missing from one of the plates so had to request them. The porridge arrived, omg it was awfull, it was like a dish of slops. For some reason the porridge was floating in syrup, it was barely warm and very sweet, took one spoonful and called the waitress over and told her we did not ask for syrup and we couldnt eat it and she said she would get us plain porridge with blueberries. We waited at least another 30-40 minutes for the replacement and that was only warm. Sorry to say but after looking forward to a nice breakfast we were very very dissapointed and have no intention of returning. The place is lovely and in a nice setting but that is all I can say about it.

Awful roast dinner shocking quality of meat embarassing that anyone can plate and send it out, 0 pride in their work

Ordered breakfast Sunday morning 17 Aug 24 .Waited for 20 minutes nothing so my wife went inside to see what was happening .Finally our cup of tea arrives warm not hot The outside setting amongst the trees and golf course in the distance is lovely so I wondered why only 3 tables occupied outside on such a nice sunny Sunday morning .Breakfast finally arrived after 40 minutes wait and the girl wonders off so I assume she has gone to get knives and folks etc but after a further wait nothing so back up again to request knives and folks , salt pepper etc .I have to stress I stopped coming to the old stables about 3 years ago because the service was that bad and only went today because I wanted to check out the updated golf course .Sadly the golf course is still work in progress but looks like it will be great once finished but never again for food in the old stables as the service is just so so poor and even after 3 years of hoping things would have improved they have not .

Disappointed. We went for dinner on a weeknight, after several lovely meals there over the last few years. It took twenty minutes for our orders to be taken, and even then we had to flag the member of staff back down as she only took one persons order. It took another half an hour for drinks to arrive, and a further 45 minutes for bread. It took over an hour for food from ordering, and we had to go find our own cutlery and napkins. For the food itself: the steak was very overcooked, the fish was undercooked, and the only thing with any seasoning were the French fries. Whilst I sympathise that they were understaffed, we were very disappointed.

Cannot fault this place. A high end but relaxed atmosphere. Eaten in here a number of times and never been disappointed.

Service was good, presentation of lunch was lovely, but the whole experience was greatly marred by how much salt was applied to our dishes..the portobello mushrooms which were bathed in an extremely salty sauce, my guest likes salt but it was far too much even for her. My delicious haddock was beautifully fried in crispy batter, however the accompanying, golden, perfectly cooked chips had every square millimetre coated in tiny salt granules. Much better to allow customers to add there own salt which is provided on the table.

Gorgeous midweek evening dinner. We had a lovely walk around the area and then stopped off for dinner, we were sat in the window and could see the sun setting. Delicious main meal offering paired with a fabulous cocktail. We will definitely be returning all summer.

Been for a Sunday breakfast here a few times. The food is consistently good, always piping hot. The staff are friendly and attentive (without being over the top) and it's a lovely setting looking over the golf course.

So on Monday me my husband and my 2 children really fancied a nice breakfast so we traveled to the old stables restaurant and got there for just after 9am we were the only people in restaurant and we were given the menu we ordered our drinks and then ordered our food we waited 10mins and were still the only people in there the waiter came over and said sorry this is not the menu here is Mondays menu and there was only 4 items on it and they were only barms I asked if they could not make us a breakfast seen as tho we had ordered it he said a flat no so he let us get up and walk out still nobody in the restaurant. As a business owner, this is not acceptable

Good gluten free selection and the fish and chips were delicious! The manager and staff were very friendly and attentive and listen well to feedback . Good to see they’ve introduced cava onto the wine menu ( we requested this last year, so it’s good to see the management have listened). It was very palatable and a nice variety, but rather expensive for what it is! It might be an idea to introduce a wider selection of cavas, as not everyone likes Prosecco and champagne would be for a very special occasion, not just a weekend lunch. Thank you.

I booked a table for 8 using the online service. It took my payment info. I rang to confirm 2 days before and discovered that there was no reservation. I was then informed that you cannot use the online service to book, for more than 6 people. Fortunately they managed to accommodate us but my concern is whether they are aware that the online booking service is taking payment info, without a booking. Sadly, this issue is probably outside the fault of the Stables but is affecting their reputation.

Visited over Mother’s Day weekend. Great atmosphere, food & service! Tom the restaurant manager is very welcoming & the team can’t do enough to make your visit memorable. Great to visit their on site sports bar Fletcher’s afterwards for a drink and some live music Perfect all day venue

I go here a lot but but never had Sunday lunch...I'd say this was probably the best Sunday lunch I've ever had out! Delicious crispy roasties and crunchy veg, huge Yorkshire pudding and pink roast beef ta boot..perfect! I "blew my bags out"

Lots if variety although set meal seriously lacked fish options. Good childrens menu. Staff attentive. Everyone in our party enjoyed all three courses.

We visited the Saturday before Christmas, we were surprised to get a table as it was a last minute booking. The venue is lovely it was decorated really well. We ordered starters 2 x duck rillettes and one sharing camembert, Mains were one sharing tomahawk, one rump steak and one beef brisket the rump steak was a big disappointment it was tiny and served with frozen chips the beef brisket was bland, the tomahawk steak was ok. Our table hadn't been cleared when they brought out the mains our cutlery was then taken and we had to ask twice for new cutlery. I have to say the food was just average, I think the big disappointment is that it is chain food the photos seem to suggest that the food is chef cooked but it isn't it is just pub grub.

Very disappointed with our Christmas lunch. Firstly we were kept waiting on arrival because the waitress couldn’t find any menus. We were eventually seated and our order taken, the service was very slow. Our starter of smoked salmon and rye bread arrived, the salmon was icy cold and the rye bread was so hard it was inedible. The waiter told us the salmon was meant to be served cold, I understand that but not served straight from a very cold fridge. The rye bread was replaced but it had been toasted on a grill that had obviously been used to grill meat on, so it tasted of meat, not very pleasant but luckily no one in the party was vegetarian. One main meal was beef, which was nicely cooked but came without the roasted beets. The waiter said we would have to order a side portion to have any vegetables and so we had to ask for the menu to show that it should have been served with beets. A waitress then brought a small portion of red cabbage, obviously not roasted beets and so this was returned and eventually the beets served. The others in the party had Turkey dinner, it was ok but generally it looked over cooked and was not of the standard we have previously had at the Old Stables. When the manager came to clear our table we explained our disappointment and he did reduce our bill, however we were given the impression that it was our problem, he even said “ well you ate most of it” We were promptly given our bill without being asked did we want dessert of coffee. Overall a disappointing experience and I doubt we will return.

The staff are lovely and managed to fit us in at the last minute.

We visit regularly but had the festive afternoon tea yesterday for the first time. It was stunning, probably the best we’ve had. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were all gorgeous and really fresh. Refillable coffees and tea and great staff. Had a really lovely afternoon and would recommend to anyone. Great value at £25 each xx

Just got back from a pre-Christmas family meal. I have got say the experience we had was nothing short of fantastic and will be visiting again in the near future. There where nine of us all together including two toddlers. We went for the great value 3 course meal and everything from the starters to the desserts was well cooked and beautifully presented. The servers were very attentive and looked after us all very well. Highly recommended.

On arrival we stood waiting to be seated or even just acknowledged. Eventually we were seated and ordered lunch which I can say was average. Won't be returning

Had a gorgeous breakfast with a friend at The Old Stables yesterday. Stunning venue, lovely food and great staff. £12.50 for a large breakfast which was delicious, so fresh and tasty. You can get cheaper elsewhere but you won’t find a nicer venue. Spotlessly clean and bright with lots of parking so it’s suitable for anyone to enjoy xx

Had a meal at The Old Stables no complaints about the food it was lovely and tasty. The Stables is a nice venue except it was very noisy due to the acoustics with the ceiling being high and tiles on the floor there is nothing to soften the noise plus there was music playing that was more for a pub than a restaurant. Think some sort of soundproofing is needed as I had to leave, the noise was giving me a headache. It was hard to hear one another speak so everyone was talking loudly. Just one more point the staff could do with some better training as we where left for about 20 minutes before we ordered our puddings this is after our main course plates had been taken away and we where ignored when we first arrived, left standing at the entrance with no one asking us our name. We did not have a pleasant experience.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. Excellent Sunday roast. Beef was so tender and the roast potatoes were cooked to perfection. It is so good to have freshly made Yorkshire puddings. An excellent selection of 4 perfectly cooked vegetables. It is good to see the restaurant so popular as there were hardly any empty tables. This shows the quality, quantity and presentation of the food. The service was also very good. Thank you to the excellent chef .

Delicious menu and great staff. Would recommend the honey mustard sausages to start, oyster mushrooms, lamb roast and the sticky toffee pudding!

Wife and I popped in for a mid-week evening meal. Warm and friendly welcome. The Camembert starter was a good portion. Wife had fish and chips and I ordered the Belly Pork. Meals took quite a while to arrive but we where in no rush. Wife's meal was 'spot on'. Mine not so, the plate was very hot, the accompaniments where hot, but the Pork was barely warm. I asked for it to be warmed up, they offered a fresh meal but I was happy with a warm up. They did provide a new and hot replacement which strangely took less time to arrive than the original ? Overall the service was good and the food tasty. My meal included three large pieces of meat, glazed mushroom and a bit of greenery. I would have preferred a little less meat and more veg, or perhaps some Mash Potato.

Popped in for the Prix Fixe midweek offer (3 courses @ £23.95). Had the garlic prawns with soft bread and chili butter - delicious. Mains were excellent too, pork belly and chicken fillet. Polished off with lemon meringue cheesecake. Service from Laura was fast and attentive. Great midweek treat, will do it again!

I attended on a Saturday night for “the taste of Spain” tapas night. The 13 courses of food were all incredible. There was a good atmosphere and the service was great. Would recommend for a date night or with a group of friends.

2 course Sunday roast was excellent. Starter of soup was really nice, others had the goats cheese and thought the same. Roast has options for different meats, we all had a mix of beef & ham which were both amazing. We had all planned to have dessert but main meal portions are pretty big so we skipped. Overall one of the nicest places for a Sunday dinner (they still have a kids menu and a limited selection of other dishes if you have fussy kids!).

A decent Sunday roast (bar some very firm broccoli). The service is a little too hands off sometimes and it can prove a bit awkward to get the food to the end seats in the booths, but it's a decent option for a nice Sunday roast with friends or family for an occasion/celebration. Desserts are especially nice, and prices for 2 or 3 courses are fine. Lots of parking and as long as it isn't full, there is room to move around. When it's busy there isn't much room to get around between tables

Booked afternoon tea for today as part of birthday celebrations for my daughter and grandaughter weeks ago and £30 deposit paid. Call last night to say restaurant not open on Mondays and by way of compensation we could go to Fletchers bar instead and would receive complementary drinks. Booked table at Fletchers on line. Attended bar today to be told food not served until Thursday! My family had travelled from Aintree and extremely disappointed. I have also requested a refund of deposit - still awaited ! Another group of ladies from Maghull had also booked by phone and experienced same situation. I had booked on line. The system accepts bookings even on days not available/ closed! Not good experience as we have patronised this restaurant often and encouraged friends to book also. I was about to book family dinner for 10 people 1st October but unsure I should do so . Updates: Refund received, phone call from customer service apologised for problems and offered afternoon tea free of charge by way of compensation. Hopefully the system has been fixed and bookings will only be accepted for days open. The restaurant has managed to redeem itself somewhat and hopefully we will still enjoy patronising the services.

This should be a lot lower scored restaurant but let me explain. It was Fathers Day when I visited and there were 6 of us for the meal. Our party size wasn't the issue, it was that the venue had been overbooked for the day. It was jam packed and so the wait for food was quite long. The food however was absolutely brilliant, cannot fault it at all. I had beef and it was lovely. We did have to remind staff that we were still waiting between courses but I think that kept us from being forgotten. I much preferred the honesty of the final waiter when we paid the bill, who told us about the over booking faux pas; rather than an earlier one who had claimed the computer was playing up with orders. So all in all it was a great meal and although there were issues, I can't imagine that should be a problem again.

Place is lovely and food really nice for a 2 course meal £80. Starter, main and bottle of wine. Staff were really nice and attentive.

Firstly, the location is superb. Really nice scenery. The food, for the price, is terrible. My steak, although cooked to my request, was very tough and over salted. They must buy the cheapest steaks going. I expected more fancy food, but I was woefully mistaken. Its a shame, as this place could be really special. Hervorragende Adresse für gehobene Atmosphäre. Erinnert etwas an die Serie Bridgerton. Nicht Jeder kann sich für diese Atmosphäre begeistern, aber das Essen ist zweifellos hervorragend.
