The Old Spence Café in Edinburgh, City of

Hi, it is a lovely place to be! We stayed three days in a pension near by. My daughter and I loved the atmosphere in that café. The flat white, the Nutella Hot chocolate, the tuna melt sandwich and the delicious waffles were great! To complete the perfect picture of a cosy café, a pretty, young woman always sat at the next table, on her red sofa, with her notebook… my daughter and I wondered what she was doing there. We agreed (because it fits so well with the mood in that café), she writes on her book and absorbing the atmosphere of the café, to create a new world. And we on the transit before our camping tour, maybe appear in it :-) If you visit the cafe, please say hello to our writer ;-)

Consistently delicious coffee, cozy vibes and tasty snacks/meals .

I was completely ignored , sat for 10 mins and not one person working there spoke to me 3, player I saw behind the counter and it took 2 of them to clear one small table First time I have ever walked out of a place but in the past sat down and the service has been prompt and lovely so hoping it was a one off

Love the decor and sweet treats here! Staff are always really lovely and helpful. Amazing place to chill and since it's dog friendly, you'll find plenty cute furry friends around whilst you enjoy a good cup of coffee.

This is a real gem, great service and absolutely delicious granola with toasted nuts. The guy who served us was really friendly and helpful. Coffee was also delicious.

Café managed by an expert in the Italian sector. A good mix of Anglo-Saxon and European desserts Exceptional cakes, top brioches. Granola ok and waffles super. Super top cappuccino. Very kind in a quiet area Highly recommended

Lovely coffee. Service tends to get a bit hectic when they’re are busy which is to be expected. Somehow my order got lost in the mix but once I approached a staff member, they quickly made my order

Just been here today and I wasn’t disappointed..the focaccia was the best I have tasted outside Italy,seeped in olive oil and so so fresh..stufffed with mozerella,rocket and tomatoes…then to accompany the sublime sandwich I had homemade lentil soup,which was naturally delicious! I didn’t try the cakes but they looked amazing..You have to go..

We came here twice because we liked it so much the first time! All the staff were friendly and helpful, we felt the service was outstanding. The atmosphere is cute and quirky. The food and drink is absolutely delicious, you can't go wrong if you decide to come here. We are very happy customers.

Excellent place for lunch! The food is well seasoned and the chicken marinade is phenomenal. The flat white was very good. I ordered the Caesar salad and it was delicious ! The atmosphere is cozy, the decor is lovely and very welcoming. Thank you!

Home-made cakes? Properly in-house homemade?. This is the place for you. We walked into and out of so many coffee shops in Leith with their supermarket bought cakes till we found this eclectic cafe. Very good coffee, nice, friendly service, and excellent homemade carrot cake AND.... this is a big deal for me as those who follow us know.. they have free water available. Tasty waffles and coffee. Nice design. There are some art prints that can be purchased. Very fast service. The only issue was that there were 2 small children, who were making a lot of noise and that was not good.

We came here for breakfast this morning. It is a very cozy place with friendly staff. The food is AMAZING! Lots of flavour and very fresh. We had the waffles with fresh fruit, orange juice and two brownies to go.

Absolutely loved this Café. We had amazing waffles, they played nice music, and they had good service! Definitely recommend going here.

The staff with a cap is very rude. No longer a laptop friendly cafe. They don't allow laptops for most of the tables.

This is a cute gem in Leith that I really recommend wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a nice, chilled atmosphere and good quality ingredients. As an Italian, I recognised quite many influences of my country in the food, and it was actually funny to see that one of the owners is Italian! I got an almond croissant - definitely good, and an espresso. What to say, I recommend it!

Met with a friend for brunch here, we had the waffles and the salmon poached egg avacado toast. The food was delicious, the service was relaxed and friendly. There was a lovely well-bahaved golden retriever at the cafe that came to say hello to us! Highly reccomend!

Stopped off here on a Saturday morning for breakfast as it wasn't far from the tram line. The food was amazing and wonderfully fresh - their apple juice was so freshly squeezed, it tasted like the bite of an apple. The price point was great for the quality of the food and I would definitely recommend going there for a weekend breakfast in Leith! The interior and ambiance was also very welcoming.

Very cozy cafe near Edinburgh Castle. The vanilla latte was delicious! I wished I hadn’t just eaten lunch because the sandwiches in the display case looked AMAZING! Fun spot to sit & watch tourists as well.

Porridge tasted like an instant porridge sachet. Stated fresh fruit and I got “four blueberries”. Coffee was OK, presentation could be nicer. Pretty and quirky inside.

In een ongedwongen wat studentikoze sfeer koffie drinken. Heerlijke cappuccino, goede koffiesmaak en niet teveel melk gelukkig. Ik was er gestopt tijdens wandeling met kleinzoon. Kinderstoel aanwezig.

The gluten free orange cake is amazing! I always go there for that, but I am sure other food is as great! Of course, the coffee is delicious too, and great atmosphere! Today was busy, and yet they were very efficient.

Really pleased with the food and was served very quickly as well. Everything tasted fresh and was definitely well executed. Cafe has a very nice vibe with antique radios etc. making up part of the decor. Situated in a great location too. Lost a star for cleanliness. We chose a table which had obviously not been cleaned, then moved to another which again, was not cleaned. Takes literally 30 seconds to do a quick wipe down before taking an order, disappointing this wasn’t done.
