Lovely setting in a fabulous old building but falls far short of its potential. Menu choices very traditional/dated, food quality just adequate, coffee poor. Staff (all three of them) oddly lacking in any warmth whatsoever. Not dog-friendly so limited to sitting outdoors, which would be ok if the tables/benches weren’t so dirty, and in some cases rotten. With the summer coming, someone could at least sand them down and do some basic maintenance. Feels a bit like they’d given up.

Had our monthly ice cream fix from the Old Smithy Tea Rooms. The homemade ice cream is as always fantastic....so good we travel from Seascale 40 miles away for it. An added bonus was home made mince pies. We bought two to take out. They were absolutely delicious. Really love this place. An absolute gem in a wonderful village.

Me pregunto si alguna vez venden algo.

Staying in Caldbeck this week and called in here for breakfast today after our morning doggie walk. We received a very warm welcome and the Full English Breakfast we both had was excellent. Will definitely be back !!

We just walked 9.5 miles and were looking forward to a nice cuppa. Tea was ok but Carrot cake was dry (probably been sitting around a few days as was last piece). Lady running the place needs some social skills! Very unwelcoming and dour. Go elsewhere.

Having walked 3 miles from our holiday lodge to the village we had earned a coffee and sausage cob. Well sorry but customers appear to be a problem to the lady running the cafe on the Sunday. The coffee was nothing special and the deep fried cheap sausage in 2 slices of cheap white bread a disapointment... I would avoid and visit the pub or the other village cafe

The review posted yesterday under 'Roger M' is in fact mine. (Senior moment!!!) It doesn't detract from the fact that this is a very nice tea room set in a lovely village. The tea room serves excellent drinks and has a variety of food, jams etc on offer. Well worth a try

Found this tea room on last but one day of our holiday. Wish we'd found it earlier. Frontage doesn't seem much, but open the latch door and you enter a really nice tea room with wonderful selection of cakes, jams, drinks etc, all served by very pleasant staff. Well worth a visit

Called in for a cup of tea and scone with jam and cream. Waiting at the table for our order there was flies flying around and landing on the table! The scone arrived with my tea. As I cut into it it seemed dry. When I tried to spread the butter on to the scone it just fell to pieces. It was clearly a stale scone. I asked for a replacement and explained why. It took around 10 mins for the next scone to arrive. We were the only people on the cafe so found it a little strange. The scone was warm but the centre was very cold. This was obviously a scone out of the freezer. Very disappointing!!

No pase aquí.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The festive lunch was ordered by all. Firstly the food for the most part was enjoyed by all 4 pax. However service was lacking both in care and in speed. A set 3 course lunch took 2.5 hours to complete. Dishes were delivered to table without suitable cutlery, serving tray left on the table, 3 pax finished their desserts before the 4th pax received theirs. Waiting staff had to be called for as they passed by, as all, except one, just ignored checking the table meal progress. It appears there is a shortage of staff, but in that case restrict the number of reservations to a level which can be coped with. That said the Brasserie was only a quarter occupied.
