Had our monthly ice cream fix from the Old Smithy Tea Rooms. The homemade ice cream is as always fantastic....so good we travel from Seascale 40 miles away for it. An added bonus was home made mince pies. We bought two to take out. They were absolutely delicious. Really love this place. An absolute gem in a wonderful village.

The title refers to what we had at the tea room. Although the selection is limited it is "Well worth the Value", (they do have some lovely ice cream. We knew from researching the village that John Peel is buried in the church yard as well as the "Buttermere Maid" but what we were not prepared for was the cost of items in the gift shops. Some of the small items in the "Wool shop" were so expensive, some of the books were the same, (£20 for a book of patterns). I wonder if they ever sell anything. The Craft shop was the same (£18 for a pen). We gave up at this point and decided that any memories of Caldbeck would be of going for a walk by the stream and the village itself, not forgetting the (The pot of tea for two with a scone, with jam and clotted cream) at the The Old Smithy Tea Room for just £3. Perhaps the rest of the village shops should take a lead from the The Old Smithy.

Staying in Caldbeck this week and called in here for breakfast today after our morning doggie walk. We received a very warm welcome and the Full English Breakfast we both had was excellent. Will definitely be back !!

We just walked 9.5 miles and were looking forward to a nice cuppa. Tea was ok but Carrot cake was dry (probably been sitting around a few days as was last piece). Lady running the place needs some social skills! Very unwelcoming and dour. Go elsewhere.

Having walked 3 miles from our holiday lodge to the village we had earned a coffee and sausage cob. Well sorry but customers appear to be a problem to the lady running the cafe on the Sunday. The coffee was nothing special and the deep fried cheap sausage in 2 slices of cheap white bread a disapointment... I would avoid and visit the pub or the other village cafe

The review posted yesterday under 'Roger M' is in fact mine. (Senior moment!!!) It doesn't detract from the fact that this is a very nice tea room set in a lovely village. The tea room serves excellent drinks and has a variety of food, jams etc on offer. Well worth a try

Found this tea room on last but one day of our holiday. Wish we'd found it earlier. Frontage doesn't seem much, but open the latch door and you enter a really nice tea room with wonderful selection of cakes, jams, drinks etc, all served by very pleasant staff. Well worth a visit

Called in for a cup of tea and scone with jam and cream. Waiting at the table for our order there was flies flying around and landing on the table! The scone arrived with my tea. As I cut into it it seemed dry. When I tried to spread the butter on to the scone it just fell to pieces. It was clearly a stale scone. I asked for a replacement and explained why. It took around 10 mins for the next scone to arrive. We were the only people on the cafe so found it a little strange. The scone was warm but the centre was very cold. This was obviously a scone out of the freezer. Very disappointing!!

First impression was that the place smelled very strongly of what I took to be balsamic vinegar. Service was not to the table so you had to carry your purchase around. Good cup,of tea though

Pleasant tearoom. Outside toilet is not acceptable. You have to walk over uneven ground . A bit of money needs spending. It's probably a listed building. That does not excuse the state of the toilet.

No pase aquí.
