We have visited here for over 20 years. Carrot cake was great. Scones don't come with proper cream anymore so we didn't have them. Jacket potatoes and toastie were good. Value for money is good. It's a shame they didn't have quiche as it is the reason we visit so may need to find somewhere else. Children's toys are very worn and broken and need updating.

Fantastic cake as always, fresh and tasty. But the girls running the spot closed dead on 5 pm shutting the doors so that the nine customers still eating and drinking in the garden could not use the toilets. Were the dirty dishes to be left on the tables all night ?

Decided to show friends this tea room as we have stopped of here for many years while living in the Lake District, what a disappointment the Bacon Butty was OK but the coffee was the worst I have EVER had anywhere in the world. A place we will never go to again.

Visited in early June 2019. Asked for a strong tea and whether the scones were fresh and home made. Told the scones were made by someone else, did not know when. The tea was weak and when I asked for an extra teabag was told "that will be £1! In 50 years of visiting the lakes on average every other week have never experienced this. The scone was the worst I have had in years. What a disappointment, it used to be an excellent cafe. Lovely view.

My parents have visited here for the last 30 years and I have for the last 28 years. Great value for money and the toys for little ones are great. My 18 month old loved it. We visited 3 times in the week We were here. If you ask for a refill on your tea you also get another tea bag. We look forward to visiting again.

Very nice to get something honest, tasty and very reasonably priced. Basic no-frillls food, served quickly by great staff. We sat outside and enjoyed the view whilst eating, and finished off with huge chunks of excellent carrot cake. Recommended.

Stopped by for breakfast and we weren't dissapointed. Excellent food and everything you need to set you up for the day before heading off into the hills. Would recommend a trip here as most other local establishments don't offer a great breakfast selection.

Waking from Keswick to Seatoller and came across this place. It was wet so sitting outside was not an option. The menu is small but has the essentials. We had soup and quiche. Both were very good with the quiche being a very large portion. The converted pig sty is a bit dark. An interesting place well worth a stop if you are in the area.

We used to visit here for a number of years with our friends and our kids. Great place to start the day with a bacon barm or a toasty, or a nice scone or cake before you commence a work. Visited again on 30th September 2017. So glad that this little café has not changed. Love it.

This place is your typical Lakeland farm with home made cakes a plenty of hot tea. Basic food but fabulous after a days walking. Ideally sit in garden as the small interior is quite dark . Overlooks the fells. The best scone jam and cream we had all week. Lovely service and friendly staff. A must visit. Children and let's welcome .

I Think we must have visited on an off day after reading the reviews here. Wet dreary day in June just after 10am. No choice of coffee other than black or white. Surely everyone offers Cappuccino, Latte etc these days. Toasted tea cake was clearly at least from the day before. Staff had little or no interest. Toilets were clean. Just overall not very inviting.

Gracias!

Been climbing for years and so of course have been drinking coffee here for years. I remember my first climb on Shepherds Crag some 15 years ago, what I remember most is how staggered I was that there was a café bang at the bottom. It doesn't get any more convenient than that. I always park at the farm when I come for a climb and so always drop in for a coffee, not because I feel I have to but because I want to, it's actually rather nice coffee and such a peaceful little spot (when it's not swamped with tourists anyway)

We have been going to this place for years and it has not changed. A great cup of tea and roll and vegetable quiche for a great price. I could quite easily sit all afternoon and drink tea while looking at the view. It does not take credit cards or have an extensive menu or serve chips with everything and that is part of the charm.I hope that when I have to be driven here as I can not walk anymore it will still be the same.

I have been coming here for years (best known climbers café in UK) and understand why it doesn't have a high profile on Trip Advisor - it was the original shabby chic café before the concept had been invented! The setting is stunning and although they now have quirky indoor seating it is essentially an outdoor café with 5 star views, also ideal for families as there are a selection of sit and ride toys which amuse kids for hours . The food is marvellous given the small kitchen space - breakfasts, butties, cakes, tray bakes, toasties - why on earth would you expect more sophisticated food or card facility. There are beautiful and accessible walks from the car park, some rugged some on board walks around the lake. You can watch climbers on classic climbs on the nearby Shepherds crag from your chair or join them, it is indeed known as Shepherds Café. Lovely international staff and owner - come with an open mind and generous spirit and it will become your favourite café too!

Awesome little cafe on the entrance to the borrowdale valley. Located right underneath shepherds crag, this place is an idea stop to grab a bite to eat before or after a climb. Quirky little farm house set up. Best seating is outside with loads to keep the little ones happy while you chill. Friendly staff. More parking needed though for people heading there to climb rather than walking past. Love this place!

Been here a couple of times - first for tea and cakes then a second time to sample all the yummy food we had seen others eating!! This is a straightforward no-nonsense place with friendly service, a lovely garden to sit in with fabulous views and a small but very perfectly formed menu. I had poached eggs on toast and my husband a cheese and tomato toastie. We then (to my embarrassment) both had a slice of home baked cake and a cup of tea/coffee. All delicious and the smallest bill I have had anywhere in the lakes. Great little place.

All the food here is very nice. I am a regular visitor who stays very close by to this farm, in one of the accommodations let by the head of the farm, Yolandi. Lovely lady, though due to circumstances beyond her control some of the rental she had has passed on to others to sell. Which should be a complete crime.I ahve been coming to the lakes annually since my esme was small and feel like I'm home there, so when Yolandi lost field house I was gutted.Lots of fond memories and can not wait to go back in 2017, thiugh staying elsewhere, it just will not be the same. Also to mention that the staff are very friendly and helpful. Most have been friends!!

We were doing the hop on hop off launch trip around Derwent Water and realised that Borrowdale was the only place where food is available, so we organised to get off there around lunch time. We checked out the hotel down by the lakeside but decided that Sunday lunch for the five of us, 3 adults and 2 children, would just be too expensive. Therefore we began to walk along the only road up into the valley and soon found this delightful cafe. It is really quaint and has a number of outside tables along with ride on toys for younger children, as well as a small inside area; the tables have old singer sewing machine legs on them - great recycling. The menu is small but adequate - our three adults and 12 year old all had stuffed jacket potatoes - 3 different stuffings are available. The 8 year old choose a childrens lunch box which included a sandwich, a piece of cake, a piece of fruit and a drink. The coffee was hot and tasted good. To top it off I was able to buy a postcard of the cafe with the steep hill behind it for just 10p. Nothing flash but good honest food.

Adjacent to the road with car park and lovely views over Derwentwater and the fells. Best enjoyed during fine weather when you can sit outside and admire the views. The seating and tables are showing signs of wear, and several tables are converted from singer sewing machines (certainly qwerky). There is a fine array of peddle cars and sit on toys for the very young. The indoor space is in a stone/wood barn so a little dark. The food area is certainly rustic. The food options are limited but you do get large helpings at very reasonable prices, and quite pleasant. If walking round the lake you do have to extend your route to fit this cafe in to your schedule in which case there are perhaps more attractive options say in nearby Grange though I have not eaten there.

We always visit this farm cafe and it never, ever disappoints. Situated 100 yards or so from The Borrowdale Hotel with lovely views of Derwentwater, the home made simple food is amazing both in quality and value. Yesterday, my wife and I enjoyed a well filled toasted sandwich each, a fantastic portion of home made apple pie and fresh cream for her, an equally large portion of carrot cake and copious volumes of traditional tea. The bill was £11.60 in total -and we could hardly move afterwards. The cafe is very family/ children orientated and they provide loads of kids outdoor play toys to keep them occupied while mums, dads and grandparents enjoy the rest.If you are planning to walk around the lake, this is the place to stop. Enjoy.

Gosh, I first came to this cafe in 1969, yes 45 years ago. I came up from London on a steam train from Euston for a few days camping with my Dad. It was a magical trip, one of those few times, when you imagine your parents to be permanent and invincible. We caught a bus down from Keswick station to the camp site. In the few days of walks, I remember blistering blue skies and driving rain, but this cafe was a little haven that became a focus for our rambling a. I remember having hot vegetable quiche with pickle, followed by fruit pie with cream. And today 45 years later I ordered and enjoyed it again, as I have done so many times over the years. Neither the place, the quiche or the pie have changed a bit. For me this cafe remains the best, the most wonderful, enchanting, memorable and happy eatery of any category I have ever been to. Thanks Dad.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant is part of Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. The breakfast, is poor quality ingredients which are largely tasteless. The milk jug was dirty, the staff seemed miserable (expect for two chaps who were welcoming and happy). All in all, very poor and I won’t be back.
