My husband booked afternoon tea as a surprise for my 60th Birthday. There was around 18 of us and the setting was brilliant. The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it, so much so that we brought some of the cakes home. The staff were so lovely and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for making my special birthday surprise something I will always remember.

Passed here many times over the years but today Monday 20th Nov 2023 called in. Parked ok, got a table ok which we were surprised about as the car park was quite busy. Good menu and price wise ok. Food and drinks were good, only thing was that i ordered a bacon sandwich and got a bacon roll, staff did apologise. Will call again when in the area.

Gosh, this place has changed over the years… has gone downhill. Drinks were bought to our table in in cans, not glasses, grit that nearly broke my teeth on the panini on my last bite (possible salad not washed properly). Coleslaw was sour (probably old too). Carrot cake tasted nice, but so crumbly that I had to eat with a knife and fork. Expensive for what we got and the choice was minimal. I was hoping for a much better experience… it’s under new management, so I hope they have better plans than just the basics.

New owners have taken over the Schoolhouse with a new small menu, breakfast cob/drink were fine and service was pleasant. I did like the idea of table service that was here before so perhaps that might be re-introduced.

Visited here, with my adult son. Welcoming and cosy. However not good value for money. We had two scones with cream and jam and two cappachinos. Bill was over £14 which I think is a bit steep, considering that there was no fruit in the scones, which were served with poor quality jam. Cream was whipped and not clotted, which would be expected. I noticed that a slice off Victoria sponge cake came in at £3.95. I would expect to pay this in a tourist location, but not here.

My husband and I have not been here for over a year so was intrigued to see it had been taken over and now opened on a Saturday evening,. After a long 10 hour shift at work was looking forward to some delicious food and a nice glass of wine. I must say I wasn't disappointed. We chose the ploughman's platter and the houmous and pitta bread, everything we had was absolutely gorgeous and the portions was huge, the owner also frequently asked if we wanted more. We opted for cake after again couldn't fault it. Rolo cheesecake and orange and marmalade sponge cake really lovely and again big portions. Will be recommending to everyone and will definitely be returning to try the meat platter. Also the owner and her son were very attentive and really welcoming couldn't have asked for anything more.

Had a lovely lunch here, food was lovely and service attentive. However the lack of social distancing made me very nervous - tables back to back less than 1 metre between customers. Also the taking of name and phone numbers lacked attention to data protection - we were presented with a list of all customers names and phone numbers to add our details to. Much better to ask customers to fill in details on a slip of paper for privacy purposes.

Recommended The Old Schoolhouse by a friend we’d met on holiday. This was our first visit and we will definitely return. Upon entering you encounter the fridge with home made coleslaw, salad and various pork pies. The menu shows an ample choice of paninis, sandwiches and jacket potatoes along with lighter bites. We ordered 2 paninis that came with salad , crisps and homemade coleslaw. Both were delicious and filling but we still had room for a huge home made scone with cream and jam, again absolutely delicious. The room itself, like the food, is beautifully presented. Staff were very friendly too, even during this very busy period. All in all a really enjoyable visit.

Stopped off for morning coffee en route to Devon. A little disappointing; although the coffee was excellent the cherry scone was memorable for its lack of cherries. Why is it that good scones are difficult to find and on many occasions have little fruit in them? I expect with jam and cream this hides a lot of flaws, but just with butter it's easy to sort the good from the bad!

Our second visit and my conclusion is; nice enough food, but not child friendly. Arrived today looking for a table for five. After being told of all of the places I couldn't sit i.e. 'well you could sit there, but you'll need to not block the way to the aisle', I asked for a table to be cleared that had just been vacated by a larger party. My littlest one, aged 2, was a nightmare at the end of our lunch while we waited for cake and ran off through the kitchen area. This is completely unacceptable by anybody's standards and while I tried to catch him up (I'm over 7 months pregnant) I received a rude and abrupt telling off by a staff member. I do not disagree with what she was saying at all, and I felt terrible about him running off as it was, but I very much do mind being spoken to like a chastised child when I'm out treating my family to lunch. This is a shame as the people we spoke to on our first visit were far more kind and welcoming of us and our young family but after leaving today, I can't see us making a return visit with or without the children.

This place is small but not cramped, but with quite big tables, so plenty of room. It has a nice relaxing ambience and was warm on a cold January day. There is a small patio area that you can sit outside in summer or winter as some people were when we visited. We could not find a menu on the website, so I had to assume that they did something like a full English brunch, but on arrival there I was a bit disappointed as they don't do one. I did have a really nice scrambled eggs and bacon on toast, which was very filling and great coffee. The menu is a bit on the expensive side but very nice. I took a piece of cheesecake home with me,but I was a bit disappointed in that, because for the price I was expecting it to be a baked cheesecake but it wasn't. Overall we would go again though.

The cafe/deli is actually located in the lovely village of Stanton-by-Dale. We are regular visitors to the Old School House. We love particularly like their lovely fresh coffee and breakfast/brunch menu although there is a really good choice of homemade cakes etc. etc....difficult to choose. A lovely atmosphere and cosy surroundings. Very pleasant and welcoming owners and staff. Always a pleasure to visit. There is seating outside for dog owners and for customers when the weather is fine.

Have been here several times, always tried something different and always leave satisfied! This a little gem, tucked away from the busy city with great staff.Pork pie plates are delicious, the crayfish salad is a must try!Their cakes and treats are indulgent but never overly so.Can't recommend this place enough for a lovely breakfast or lunch.

WOW, what a lovely place, friendly and helpful staff, great ambience full of beautiful things and amazing food. Good selection of options, locally sourced and very generous portions. The only downside is that it's quite small so you can't always get in, this was our first successful trip! Glad we kept trying as it was well worth it, and it's open on Mondays which lots are not.

I have visited the deli several times now. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The place is very clean. They offer a wide variety of delicious cakes and food. It is well worth a visit. My only feedback would be the lack of baby change facilities as I was very surprised there wasn't any on my last visit. It made things very difficult with a small baby. Also just a heads up the delicious scones are served with whipped cream not clotted cream which was a real disappointment as I love a cream tea!!

Really good food prepared from fresh ingredients and excellent service. The home made cakes and scones were especially good.

About to go into the shop to discuss a birthday cake but was put off by the angry staff shouting rude comments to a lady who was videoing a mishap on bath Street not sure the lady was right or wrong but she never argued back with them but the 2 ladies who was helping a fellow shop keeper pick stuff up where VERY rude and aggressive towards the lady and several times repeatedly went up to the lady's face in a very intimidating way

Went with my friend for coffee and cake. I had the raspberry bakewell tart was delightful. Took home coffee walnut cake for hubby and this was just as nice. Have been several times and always enjoyed lovely mocha coffee and a slice of something yummy from the freshly baked cakes. Would recommend.

Had the Christmas taster menu today and it was absolutely wonderful. The food and service is second to non. I would highly recommend this restaurant the chef combines amazing ingredients which makes the taste buds dance on many levels. The manager runs the front of house seamlessly with her friendly personality and in depth knowledge about the restaurants menus. 5* all round.
