Had my grandma's funeral celebration here, wonderfully staff, great place for family and friends to gather!!

Would give this little gem 5 stars but it just needs a little polish up and it would be a cracking place to go for locals. Still would recommend., Friendly service and good drink selections. Stone throw away from watermead country park too.

Played at the open mic here the other night, the host was excellent, the staff and customers were friendly and the beer and atmosphere great. Will definitely be back!

Lovely, a proper pub, friendly staff, great beer and dog friendly, just how it should be.

A classic 'Local's' pub off the main drag that has numerous guesting beers! Perfect for a good pint and sociable moment or friendly chat be you a neighbor or not. (I'm not and always get a chirpy word from one of the locals.) Not seen any food served here so don't plan on a meal unless you check it out before coming.

This is definitely the best pub in Birstall, and myself, my wife and our dogs can’t wait till we can we go back. Such a dog friendly place which makes all of our furry friends and their owners welcome. Really missing all the people that work there, as well as all that drink in there.

This is a real village pub with real ale and cheese and onion cobs. It is people and dog friendly and doesn't have loud music like many pubs nowadays. A breath of fresh air in an age of "Gastropubs!" There was a small issue with children recently but the landlord has apologised. No problem! Recommended!

Nice pub, good selection of beers and spirits. Staff aren't always smiling but that's part of the charm.

I really like this pub as it is still a pub with good beers rather than an eatery with bottle beers. Not old fashioned and good to watch the sports in. A good selection of ales, ciders and beers. (Plus gins and Sambucas!)

Proper pub. Warm and friendly atmosphere, reasonably priced bar food and good beers. The landlord also has an excellent selection of whiskies. In addition to this people with dogs should not be put off visiting as our well behaved four legged friends are welcome.

Good pub,serves food many beers on sale including guest and also craft beers, fair amount of parking at rear. Close to village centre and riverside walks, the Pub Dog is Denzil very friendly.

Unpretentious village pub. Good atmosphere, especially on live music nights and good selection of well kept cask ales plus the usual keg offerings. Dogs very welcome when accompanied by a well behaved human.

Friendly pub. Visited Boxing Day 2017. Needs to be more customer friendly. Cold day , no radiators on, no fire. Needs comfy seating , ( stools no back rests). Had a job finding the ladies loose. Not signed properly on the doors.

Each of 3 Birstall visits has been a warmly received experience. They even had the cricket on, though I was in non sporto company, so had to ignore it :( Summer walk from Lestah to Birstall along the water, couple of beers - life can't be that bad!

Mixed grill is super great! Their gourmet burger is off the rails!! Baconaise with the chips is outstanding! Service with a smile!! Spirit range is second to none! Not your usual standard spitits but quality drink all day long!! Always a friendly and warm welcome!

The landlord and landlady are some of the nicest people you will meet. An incredible choice of larger, bitter, bottled beer, wine and spirits! Live music and a great atmosphere when busy, Oh and Denzil the dog is a legend!

As a family man i like the warm and welcoming atmosphere and home cooked food and denzel .

Dropped in on the off chance for the first time in many years. Was greeted by friendly and accommodating staff, well cared for ale, and delicious food - which was specially made (ie. not a stock item to be re-heated) - and they were accommodating about swapping certain items on the menu for others. But the best part by far was the atmosphere - noisy but not full of drunks and louts so entirely possible to have a conversation. Will be a regular from now on!

I live on the North side of Birstall and have a pub on my doorstep, however I walk right by it and head straight to the Plough. Matt and Averil run a great pub and my family and I including our dog are always made welcome. My favourite pub in the village by a country mile.
