Nice evening - enjoyable meal and drinks in pleasant surroundings. Friendly, helpful service and a good atmosphere. Nice to see a local pub/restaurant busy. We’ll be back.

We attend this pub regularly, usually at the weekend for some food and a few drinks. I believe the old oak has changed hands regularly over the last few years and it appears to regress with each new owner. This is the first time we have been in the last few months and it is unbelievable how much it has went downhill. It is unbelievable as to how much the standard of food has dropped. The only way of describing the food is like a poor man’s Wetherspoons meal which is really disappointing as the menu used to change frequently and be freshly cooked. The alarm bells were ringing when seeing the menu as it is one of they generic menus that will be in every one of the pubs belonging to the chain and doesn’t contain the name of the pub on the front. It is evident nothing is freshly made and all microwaved/ deep fried. I was also surprised as to how quiet it was as it is usually really busy on a Saturday. The old oak is still good to go for a drink but I won’t be back for food until there is a massive change which is really disappointing as we used to love going for a bite to eat at the weekend. The only positive are the staff who are excellent and the service is really good, they could not be nicer.

We have eaten here many many times over the years but won’t be back. The food was terrible, straight out the freezer and heated. There used to be some fresh cooking but no more. Service was lacking in all warmth and friendliness, different to before. Kids running wild. So noisy you can’t speak. As a local “gastropub” it’s failing on all counts.

This pub is a 'must visit'. We had a delicious lunch today. ..started with a flavour filled bowl of piping hot Red Pepper soup served with warm crusty bread and plenty butter. Followed by a very generous Chicken fahijta wrap with chips...all freshly made! Great value! The waitress was friendly and efficient. She checked we were happy with our food and drinks order. Will most certainly be back!

We had two bad experiences at The Old Oak Inn in Rutherglen in October. We will not be back again unless there's (yet another) major shift in kitchen staff and/or a new head chef. The first: we visited on a Wednesday evening for a celebratory dinner at the beginning of the month. One of us ordered Steak Frites and it wasn’t cut into strips - it was just a normal steak. Though it was ordered well done, it came medium; it was eaten, but it really wasn’t what was ordered. Another in our party ordered a sirloin steak, medium-well. This was sent back because the person who ordered it said it was “raw” - I would say it was quite rare, but when a new one came out, it was full of gristle and a really bad cut. It looked like it had been cut against the grain - in the end, more than half the steak was left on the plate. One of the kids also ordered a sirloin, cooked medium. Though the child was happy in general (excited to get a steak!) it was so full of gristle that about half was left on the plate - this is quite an unusual occurrence for a growing child with a healthy appetite. No one was served mushrooms with their steaks, as was noted on the menu description, which was disappointing. One positive: the chips were good! Before ordering, I had a lengthy conversation with our waitress about ordering the Zinger Chicken Sandwich. I was quite clear that I wanted battered chicken (think fish and chips, but with chicken - because the previous menu had both available!) and not a breadcrumb coating that was fried; but she seemed confused, and in the end, it was the latter that I was served, which was very spicy. I didn’t complain because it seemed like it was a small thing compared to everything else - but the server finished her shift and never came to check on us after taking the raw steak back so it seemed a moot point anyway, and I didn’t want to bother the other waiter who took care of us after she left. One of the other kids loved the children's portion of chicken nuggets, peas and chips, but we ordered coffees - the machine was apparently showing an error, so the server apologised. For a party of six, we had to wait quite a long time for drinks and it wasn’t that busy - we arrived at 6pm and left around 8:15pm and only were served three drinks in total, including the 'after dinner coffee debacle' round. So I get that it was probably just bad timing for shifts ending (and the waitress was really kind and helpful at the beginning of our meal!) but we were all just quite underwhelmed. I contacted the Old Oak after our negative experience and asked if it was the main chef on or if it was someone covering - and it was someone covering. But then when I gave more details, no one responded until I followed up to ask if they had received my feedback - and they just said, 'Come on back and we'll take care of you,' so I asked for the franchisee/owner's details, and no one has shared those with me. Nonetheless, we did go back and the end of this month, the second time on a Saturday evening. When asked, the waiter didn't really know the difference between the 'Crispy Chicken Goujons' and the 'Sharing Chicken Strips' on the menu. One of us ordered a garlic mayo and it was salad cream that we were served with the Sharing Chicken Strips: gross! The chicken seemed like it pre-made from Brakes or Costco or somewhere similar and just deep fried to be warmed up; not exactly what we had expected for what's billed as hearty pub food. The chips were good. All in all, we decided not to ever return and I decided to share this review on Tripadvisor. The owner can either learn from this negative feedback and address the issues - or ignore it, like what happened when I contacted the Old Oak more informally after our first disastrous visit earlier this month. We are disappointed. This is a pub that has a long history in Rutherglen and after the controversy from its refurbishment has died down, it's cosy to watch games and have a pint. Since the pandemic, the food has gone steadily downhill and now, it is just amongst the worst pub fare in Rutherglen. Be warned: order drinks only, as the food is awful - except for the chips.

Absolutely fabulous dinner. The food was fantastic as were the portions. Two of us tried the Sunday Roast and the other two went for one of the Irish dishes and a Burger. Could not recommend the Old Oak highly enough and we will definitely be back. Staff were great.

Been here before but they now have a new chef, Mark. The food was fantastic especially for pub grub. We would thurouly recommend visiting the pub, don't eat anything all day as the portions are big and well worth the money. Picture shows Japanese King prawn with chilli noodles and the other dish is the sizzling tandoori chicken with a bhoona sauce. Mmmmm.

Treated to afternoon tea by my daughter. First visit and was suitably impressed. The gardens and public rooms have a lovely grandeur. Food was delightful. Would love to repeat the experience.

This was our first time visiting SmithS, we went for some lunch, a two minute walk from the train station, overall a lovely restaurant and the staff were so friendly. we had a well priced bottle of red along with our food, My wife opted for the smoked duck as a starter, I had the scallops, both dishes were delicious. For our mains we both opted for the feather blade of beef after reading some positive reviews, the beef simply melted in the mouth, the silky smooth mash was a great accompaniment along with seasonal veg and jus, I'd highly recommend SmithS, an absolute gem of a restraunt, it was so chilled and it had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. We will certainly visit again.
