An absolute gem. Best steak we have ever eaten, fabulous staff and atmosphere is magic! Will definitely be back next time we are in Scotland!

Despite having not booked, and it being a Friday night, we were welcomed in and a table found. The atmosphere was great, lovely and cosy! The food, well I'll put it this way; I had the ribeye and it was up there with the best I've had. Not a bad view from outside too. Would definitely come back. Thank you!

Everything about the Old Inn is fantastic. From the view of Castle Staker, friendly staff, great ambiance to the perfectly cooked steak, really can’t recommend it highly enough! Essential to book a table.

Best steak I’ve ever ate. We found this last minute due to being let down elsewhere. It was the best food we’ve had since staying in Scotland. Hidden gem. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Both the fillet and sirloin steak were unbelievable. We asked for medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend

Stayed locally and noted the opening hours on Facebook after good reviews. Our 2 families arrived at 4pm as advertised only to find it closed and bring renovated ( or in a really poor state?) if they are using fb it needs to be updated!!! And current - use social media properly!!

Touring parts of the NW 500 in a hired camper. Discovered this little gem on our way to find a camping spot for the night. The food was delicious, I had the crispy haddock fillets and they were fabulous! The guy behind the bar was friendly and polite, we would highly recommend.

Great unusual restaurant where I was able to celebrate my birthday during our road trip in Scotland. Difficult to book, you have to persevere because it is worth the detour both for the place and for the food. The meat is excellent, tender and tasty, the fresh fries and the sticky toffee pudding to die for. The staff takes great care, a very warm and attentive welcome.

Little gem of a place nestled down a sloping road, and from the outside, you'd think it was old and run down so you'd never bother. Wrong! The Old Inn is a is a small intimate ,quaint restaurant in Appin that I now know of.. I'd heard rumours... As you go through the first door, it's dark and a bit shaby but you enter the restaurant and you are greeted with a warm glowing room, fairy lights dawn the ceiling and bottles dripped with candle wax offer a warm cosy glow. The wood burning stove also provides an ambience of heat and light. The mood is friendly and warm, and the dress code is casual. I felt overdressed,but I do like to smarten up for dinner out with friends. We ordered drinks at the bar, which is self is rust and so cool. The lovely young lady came with our drinks and we ordered. 11oz ribeye for me a my friend ordered the same. The menu is a simple no frills chalkboard on the wall with a selection of cuts to choose from with the oz's and price. Other options are available, but steak is the winner here. I've been waiting all day for this, so when it arrived, my mouth was watering. The presentation was brilliant. It matches the rustic barn, simplistic and straight-up. Steak on a wooden slab, fries a little salad garnish, and the BEST peppercorn sauce. The first bite was heaven. Chips lovely and seasoned and the garnish of rocket I could easily had a larger portion. The steak itself was perfection. Cooked very well, and a prized piece of meat. Dessert was bailey's cheesecake. While I was in a bit of a food coma, I couldn't pass up the cheesecake. So light and fluffy,whipped to perfection it was perfect for ending the meal. Now, this isn't a cheap pan-fried steak from a chain pub. This was a delicious, worth the price meal. I don't mind paying for good food, and THIS was 100% worth paying for.

We were just really disappointed with the staff's attitude. They were abrupt, even to the point of rudeness, although we had no idea why. Food was ok, nothing special. We won't come again

I almost don’t want to leave a review as it’s such a brilliant find you don’t want too many people knowing about it and it becoming too busy!! It’s such an atmospheric old barn which doesn’t look much from the outside but beautifully lit and laid out inside. There was a great choice of steak cuts, they were beautifully cooked and simply served with fries and a bit of salad - just delicious! Friendly staff and a great evening out.

Old quirky restaurant, candle lit tables and log burner. Steaks are beautiful cooked and seasoned just as you like them, come served with crispy chips and a rocket parmesan salad. Good selection of drinks behind the bar. Have been twice now and will go again. Steaks include sirloin, ribeye, 11oz fillet, 26oz t-bone. Deserts after if you have room.

We didn't really anticipate having to book for a meal at The Old Inn by Appin on a dark Tuesday evening in late October (2023). But it turns out we did ... and we are so glad we managed to secure a table. We were offered an early 17.30 table or a later 20.00 sitting - we chose the latter. The restaurant was perfect for us and our young Border Collie dog, Jura. It was rustic, homely, and very authentic. The staff were brilliant - super attentive to us humans and our wee dog. Nothing was too much trouble. The other patrons were also so friendly. The star of the evening was undoubtedly the food - we both had 10 ounce fillet steaks - which were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection (medium rare) and melt in the mouth. The Sticky Toffee Pudding to follow was one of the best we've tried. All in all ... it was a fantastic evening. We highly recommend The Old Inn - and will be back as soon as possible. This place was excellent. From the outside it doesn’t look much but once you get inside it’s got a cosy inviting atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had one fillet and one ribeye. Both were succulent and melted in the mouth. Sides were also fantastic and both had the sticky toffee pudding to finish. The chips were superb 👌🏼

A lovely pub / restaurant the starter was delicious, ordered steak for my main what can i say it was tough as old boots i had an apology and my next steak was on the house which was great, but sadly its was much the same as the last one. For a steak house i was very disappointed. Apart from that a lovely place, great atmosphere.

The Old Inn was very good. Service was good and food was good. It doesn’t get five stars from us on a couple of little points. The Old Inn would benefit as would the customer with some clearer signage especially when heading from the Oban direction in the dark. Whilst the steak was very good the accompaniments were rather basic for the overall cost We did enjoy our meal

We were 15 minutes late due to bad weather. we spoke to them on the phone to reassure them that we would arrive in no time. After 5 minutes from the first call we arrived and were told that they had given away the already booked table. I understand the I'm late but if we talk on the phone and I confirm that I'm coming you can't give away the table to people without a reservation. Very aggressive elderly owner.

Lovely old coaching inn in Appin. I’ve driven past it multiple times but never been there before but treated myself to a meal out for the last night of my holiday. Excellent rump steak and fries with pepper sauce: good quality meat, incredibly tasty. Service was good and the venue is very dog friendly. Good music and chilled vibe. Will definitely go again if up this way. Thank you :)

My dinner at the Old Inn was an added bonus to my travels in Scotland. My ribeye steak was cooked exactly as I like it and the flavor was truly mouth watering. The building shows the charm of its historic past and the views outside leave nothing to the imagination. Don't miss the opportunity to dine here and as quiet as the area seems, you'll want to make a reservation. I was a party of one and they got me in yet if I arrived 30min later, it's very likely I'd have had quite the wait as it's not a place you want to rush through your meal. I will return.

Absolutely delicious and worth every penny , probably the best meal I've had and we were very impressed and can't wait to go back! Steak was cooked beautifully and was massive (sirlion) will definitely be trying the t bone steak next time, the sauce was so rich and creamy and the chips are homemade.

The Old Inn is absolutely amazing and the view of the castle is spectacular. When you walk in you are hit with the smell of the steak cooking. There is a small menu, but there is something for everyone and it is unbelievable. The character of the building, the breathtaking view and the perfectly cooked steak really made this a must go to place when in Scotland.

Fantastic meal, I went for the TBone, and it was the best steak I have ever eaten. All four in the party thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and we will be back.

An absolute must if you are near Appin, definitely book in advance. If you are a fan of a steak you will love this place. Dog friendly as well and dogs are treated with the same level of customer service with their own water bowls.🥰💕

We called to check on availability that evening, a good thing, . . . as we are in Ft William. There was no room at the Inn, accept , , , that if we could be in Appin in 15 minutes, we could be seated. So . . . We drove 85 mph to arrive at The Old Inn about 6 minutes early and were laughed-at by the local diners as we entered. I am a stand-up comedian by trade. It was quite a compliment! We were greeted by a handsome red-haired bartender, who by the way appeared way overworked and substantially underpaid. In any case the bar was well-stocked. Quickly seated, our purple-haired attending psychiatric physician took our drink orders and gave me advice on how to recover. I must say that her hair was as lovely as a Winter Shauna Island sunset. We decided to Tip Well. Oh! Now the reason we traveled here, the food. On a scale of 1-10, it was a Fourteen. The Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream, not quite as good, was a solid 12.8.. But I must admit the view from our table toward Loch Linnhe is not as comparable. Alas, we departed to take photos of Castle Salker. Did I mention that the Inn is Old? But, the help is Cool.

An amazing place to visit, first of all, the view of the castle is spectacular, then you walk into a very cosy restaurant and the smell of the stake cooking hits you! You have made it to 'The Old Inn' . Take your seats and immerse yourself into the atmosphere of a top-notch stake house. The staff are so welcoming as a party of 8 people and 2 dog's, we was all catered for! We all loved the food and just really enjoyed the atmosphere of the whole stake house. The character of the building and the breathtaking view just added to it all. If you are going to Scotland (near Port Appin) 'The Old Inn' is a must, make sure you book yourself a table and enjoy your time at the best stake house in Scotland. Thankyou to all the staff for taking such good care of us all and making a fuss over the dog's.

Two of us got an app (mussels) , two entrees (the hake and the pork), two drinks a piece (a red wine and tennants), a whisky (Glenmorangie) and a dessert (sticky toffee pudding). It was delicious. The inn itself is old and invitingly cozy as can be. Stalker Castle is just off the shore outside. Really can't recommend it enough if you're in the area.

Legendary pub, amazing steaks, great spot to see Stalker castle at sunset and walk alongside the Loch Laich beach. We've ordered T-bone. and it was made to perfection.

You have to go here, fantastic, steak was to perfection, wife had the chicken and again perfection, sticky toffee pudding is the best I have had anywhere. Setting is second to none, back drop of the beer garden has castle stalker , after spending four days at a 4 / 5 star hotel 6 miles south of Oban it was a 24 mile run north to come for some food, the place itself is nothing more than an old barn, no windows and lighting from big candles, stone floor old wooden tables from 50+ years back along with the seats, so those who want a palace go eat in the hotel I was in, the reason why this is so good is you get what you pay for, fantastic service, nothing was too much, food that in fairness our hotel was charging twice the price for half the quality and quantity. You need to book well in advance it's not a pub you turn up to and grab a table, all tables are reserved. All I can say is it's a fantastic experience and for those who want a good steak and chips, chicken and chips, with traditional pub type desserts, absolute must, and the best thing it's not one of these places that have been ruined by cheffy dishes of nuggets of beef on two new potatoes split with a sprig of rocket and a circle and two dots of brown sauce, this is wooden slabs full with what you choose and beautifully cooked and served, forget your Ramsey endorsed places, go here before clowns like him get their hands on it a mess it up... Well done to the team at the old inn.. A+++ we will return. Thanks for such a wonderful meal and don't change a thing that you do...

EINDELIJK! Een restaurant gevonden in Schotland waar we lekker hebben gegeten. We hebben een Roadtrip gemaakt van 10 dagen en bijna nergens echt een fatsoenlijke maaltijd gehad, behalve hier. We hebben daarom ook twee keer hier gegeten en genoten van het heerlijke malse vlees en de uiterst vriendelijke service en gezellige sfeer. Een romantisch schuurtje waarbij je buiten uitzicht hebt over het meer en een oud kasteel. Puur genieten.

So good we returned. On both occasions we experienced good friendly service and the atmosphere was wonderful. Steaks were recommended and our 1st visit can confirm this. On our 2nd visit I can also recommend the chicken. The wine is very reasonably priced and dogs...

Had the best filet steak. Absolutely huge and perfectly cooked. Simply served with a small salad, a huge pile of chips and a bowl of pepper sauce on the side. Very tasty! Sadly left no room for dessert. The fact it's dog friendly was an added bonus. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

Wonderful, rustic old 'no frills' barn with a bar, assorted old tables and chairs, and exposed original stonework and rafters. There's a blackboard menu, and it's a case of order and pay at the bar. The food is ok, but it was disappointing to find that it was another of the growing numbers of lazy eateries that use poor quality frozen chips in their menu instead of cutting fresh potato chips. Unforgivable in any restaurant environment. I opted for the grilled fish on crushed baby potatoes because those awful frozen fries would not have been a good accompaniment to a decent steak. Edit: Naturally, I'll accept your word that you "cut and pre fry your own potato chips" Old Inn. But you certainly fooled me. Those 'skinny fries'....(they're certainly not cut as proper chips)....neither hold the heat like real chips do, nor do they display any of the other traditional chip characteristics...ie. crispy on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. They are just dry potato sticks. I'm sorry that you are unhappy with my critical comment. However, I did give your place 4 stars, so considering those awful fries, the rest of my experience was obviously pretty good. I enjoyed my visit to your rustic establishment and learning a little about its history.
