Let’s start with positives - lady working behind the bar was very friendly and talked us through all available drink. Place is bizarre, cluttered and just doesn’t make sense. With each minute that we spent in the beer garden me and my partner noticed more and more ridiculous things. Beer garden is interesting combination of storage area, £1 shop and a skip - you won’t find two identical tables or chairs, we sat next to cardboard cage and a big bin, above - bird hut, behind me and a metal cow which didn’t make sense either. Kitchen doors were constantly open which is fair with extreme temperatures but we have seen a staff member coming out and grabbing vegetables from garden storage box which was placed in customer areas, box wasn’t closed, secured and it wasn’t a refrigeration unit, anyone could access it at any point. And in 30 degree temperature weather those vegetables were not healthy! During 45 minutes visit not a single table was cleaned and nobody checked on customers dining and drinking outside. Overall I recommend this place if you like weird things!

Unorganised staff, different staff asking if we ordered, left hand not talking to the right hand. Food was expensive and bland. Wine was average. I’d rather have got a greggs from round the corner which would have been nicer.

On entering we had to wait 10 minutes before being acknowledged by a member of staff. We were told to find a table but most had empty glasses on them. When we asked where we were to sit the staff member said to sit anywhere. She just picked up the empty glasses , didnt sanitised the area . Due to the current Covid situation we didnt feel this was satisfactory or safe. No concern was shown by the staff member.

WE visited this establishment when we were given a gift card for a meal. Lovely old pub and restaurant, we were delighted to be able to take our dog in with us. The tables were a bit untidy and some of the padded seats could have done with a good clean but the food was absolutely lovely, gammon, eggs, chips and peas, also British ale pie, with chips ,peas, we cleared our plates and then shared a Limonchello cheesecake with ice cream, the staff gave us two plates without asking, and best cheesecake we have ever had.Staff were very friendly and when we asked for coffee they had run out of milk, but off one of them went to get some from the nearest supermarket, we didnt have to waitlong. Would certainly recommend and we will be going again soon.

The staff were attentive without being over bearing and were very happy to allow you as much time as necessary between courses. I used to love this place but it is in the middle of changing, no doubt to attract a younger demographic. So...gone is the brilliant beer tasting rack and in its place there is a Buxton sink, looking rather like a urinal at the side of the back lounge. There is a useful long slim table that makes conversing with friends easier than the wide table that it replaced, even more useful now that the music gets cranked up as the evening wears on. The place has gone from a kind of Parisian cellar bar to steampunk pretension. The steam being very evident on the damp window frames that could do with a rot proofing treatment. That said the guy who served us was really friendly, even booking us a table at the nearby French restaurant because they were no longer serving food at this bar. So far all you vaping hipsters this is the place for you. Those of us who used to enjoy a few glasses of wine or beer and a chat with friends will have to look elsewhere.

This is one of my favourite places in Buxton. It is quite small with a vaulted ceiling, quickly becoming busy on theatre evenings or as soon as the sun brings visitors to Buxton. There isn't much of a menu, the emphasis is on wonderful Thornbridge beers. If you don't know which to choose ask for a tasting tray and try a selection! The food is a basic cheese or meat or cheese and meat platter served with warmed bread, fruit and chutneys, just the thing to help the beer down. Listing this establishment on TA as a restaurant is very misleading since it is first and foremost a bar, as illustrated by the array of beer taps greeting you on entry. The beer comes from one of my favourite breweries, Thornbridge, but unfortunately is served at a temperature more suited to a summer's day in the Australian outback than an autumn evening in Northern England. Wine is also available but not well-presented or advertised and seemed a bit of an afterthought to me. The bar is situated in one of a line of attractive buildings just a few minutes walk from the opera house. It's comfortable in a very scruffy fashion, with low tables and armchairs, and those working here are friendly and welcoming.

Whilst staying in Buxton for the weekend we were looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch and this place sounded perfect. We were a party of six and we shared three platters of meat & cheese between us and we found it to be excellent . We got a selection of cold meats and cheeses with chutney, olives and warm rosemary bread. As we were lucky to get a nice sunny afternoon we sat outdoors. The management and staff were very helpful. We would definitely return if we visit Buxton again.

We have been in here several times and enjoyed it. However we never see the owner anymore? Where has he disappeared to? People like to see a business succeed and its nice to see the owner not just staff he employs all the time. If this carries on people will get fed up and drink elsewhere Wake up as there is now a lot of competition very close. We have a business in Buxton and we know how important it is to keep on our toes and keep our regular customers.

The wines on offer here are good value. We'd had a meal but had to vacate our table and so went for a drink here to pass some time. I can't comment on the food but as a place to go before or after a meal or show at the Opera House this is as good as any though it is on the small side, which may be a recommendation for some.

Love this place! The meat/cheese platters are delicious with generous portions and good advice on which drinks match the food. Chilled out vibe and friendly staff (especially Julian). Funky interior, comfy chairs.... seriously what more do you need? Best place in Buxtonia.

Sadly, this lovely little store and coffee shop has re-located to Glossop. I'm sure it will be missed.

Nine of us went for a St Patrick’s day lunch except there wasn’t a nod to Ireland on the menu. It was £12.50 per head with a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 puddings. We we’re expecting something
