My wife and I are trying to get round as many different local pubs as we can at the weekends. This one was on our list today. It's right out in the sticks so it's not unfair to say that we went out of our way to get here. We were met with a sign on the gated car park across the road that says "we do not cater for walk ins". I cannot think of a more unfriendly way to run a pub. We turned around and left before even entering and we will not be returning. If my money is not welcome there then we will take it elsewhere. We went down the road to the Coppa Dolla which offered a much, much friendlier atmosphere. This would have been our 546th new pub, and I can honestly say that I have never seen such an unwelcoming place. With the Coppa Dolla just round the corner, there is no need to visit the Church House at Torbryan.

Lovely old pub available for large parties to rent for a week. Facilities are fantastic, you get the bar, social spaces and lots of high quality bedrooms. All bedrooms are top notch with a TV and very modern bathroom. It is in a rural location so be prepared for the roads! Overall highly recommended!

Made the mistake of driving all the way here (2 hours) after reading about it in a CAMRA publication. Pulled into the car park and was immediately confronted by a rather officious woman with a curt "Can I help you??. I asked if the pub was open. Response: "No!" and as I was just about to ask about it, she stormed off and entered the pub. Nice. Guess we annoyed her.

Used to be a lovely old pub but it's closed now. You can hire out the whole pub for a cost. Such a shame

My wife and I visited this pub for an evening meal but we were sadly disappointed. We both had fillet steak, which understandably was fairly expensive, unfortunately it arrived on stone cold plates. I raised this with the manager who said that it comes with a side salad and obviously you would not put salad on a hot plate. I pointed out that we had not asked for a side salad and he replied, " well that's the way it is " , and walked off. Not a place that we will be returning to. Max and Shirley

My partner and myself had an overnight stay.. We could not of booked a better place, friendly staff and most of all what friendly locals! Evening meal was faultless and a good hearty breakfast! Our room was very clean and quiet, bed was also comfortable. We are certainly going back. It was home from home.

Excellent restaurant. Good menu with a range of fresh local meat and fish dishes. The game was particularly good and the cheese board was lovely.

Small restaurant that also does "takeaway" (on the other side)... Little lady of a certain age served us, very friendly, smiling and patient!! On the other hand, be careful, because they close quite early, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening!! So as a Frenchman, it feels weird...😅 But we didn't feel like we were being kicked out!! 😁👍 Very good fish and chips!! Restaurant recommended by Steven from Shaldon!! Thanks again!!!

Excellent dinner - we went for fish starter and main, which were both great, full of flavour and not heavy. The dessert was delicious too. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful

The Neckoil was a great find on the taps, but the service was a little flat. No one was rude, and the venue looked nice and clean (we sat out front) but it just lacked a real feel of being welcomed.
