We had just walked out of another Pub because they ignored us. The difference could not have been any greater!

Outstanding from start to finish! Party of 13 of us celebrating an 80th birthday in the family and we booked here as part of our weekend away together. We pre-ordered a very wide mix of food and we were all blow away by the quality! It was all served at the same time but with the kids meals first which was a very nice touch, gave us a chance to get them settled so we could enjoy our meals, I personally love it when restaurants get this little detail right! The service we received was simply amazing! I’m really frustrated I didn’t get the lady’s name that served us but, she was fabulous! Very attentive without being constantly around us, again this is only something that someone with experience knows how to balance. All the service team throughout the meal were excellent! Clearly all the food was prepared and served in house by a team that knows what they are doing! If the owners of the business read this, please keep hold of this team! Can’t say anymore about how much we enjoyed our visit here and if we are ever back in the area we wouldn’t hesitate to visit again! Thank you to you all!

We have not been here for several years and fancied having a roast dinner . We had a few friends telling us the food was good. So we went. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. Our waitress was very good and we placed our order. The service for our drinks was good, no long wait. Our meal arrived in a good time. The plates were hot and the food was presented very well. Unfortunately, the food was somewhat disappointing. It was cooked well but there was very little taste to it. Cauliflower cheese did not taste of cheese just like a pain sauce. The red cabbage had an awful taste, which was quite over powering. Maybe we came on an off day but it was disappointing.

Absolutely 💯 brilliant Fit us in even though we hadn't booked, and it was so busy. Staff lovely and helpful the food was amazing and the atmosphere was very pleasant definitely recommend 👌

Good food and service as usual 2025 good food as usual, but on the last 2 visits service not so good,1 visit we were forgotten and had to ask for a dessert menu,2nd visit didn't even get as far as a dessert,before we were told to order our coffee as they were shutting the coffee machine down,then we were asked to pay the bill before we had that as they were shutting the till down!!. We booked our table for 7pm and were hardly given a chance to enjoy our meal before they were trying to get rid of us, didn't feel comfortable asking for a dessert. Not a good experience for a birthday meal.Please do not take bookings for 7pm if you are not willing to let people to enjoy the meal and evening. Ps a few things were not available on the very limited menu,not leaving much choice for evening customers.To sum up ---- great food , nice and clean overall , great service during the day - dog friendly -just don't go in the evening when they are waiting to go home and have run out of some food !!!

The search for a good restaurant is off! We found it. What a great lamb dinner last night. The desserts were also great and don't get me started on the wine list. Beautiful place on top of it. Can't wait to come back (next year as we live abroad). Thank you

Large Sunday roast, lovely taste, hot and fast service.

Celebrated my birthday here on Tuesday. Wonderful food, service and location. Generous portion sizes, plenty of parking and very reasonably priced.

4 of us had a very enjoyable meal here. It was a Saturday night so the venue was reasonably busy. Service was good. A nice relaxed atmosphere.

We found this gem when we visited parkdean torquay holiday park. Only 5 mins away and I'm glad we did. We booked to come here 5pm on a Saturday night. Food was absolutely stunning. Beautiful inside! We liked it so much we booked to come back on the Sunday for a roast and that was beautiful as well. Dan the waiter made it extra special for us and the front of house man ( sorry didn't get his name) was amazing too! I recommend this ro anyone visiting and make sure you book in advance!

Great food, great staff, and great atmosphere. It has become a regular stop off for a pint on the way home from a ride out on my motorbike.

We live locally but havent been to the Barn Owl for a few years. It is a nice cosy eating pub with good decor and lots of areas to eat. Service was good after some initial confusion over our booking. The food however was average at best. It was well presented but the fish in the fish and chips was a thin rather grey fillet with far too much batter. The burger patty was solid and over-cooked. Chips and other sides were fine. We were attracted back to the Barn Owl by the wonderful reviews but on this evidence we feel it was rather ordinary.

We eat here relatively regularly and we have never been disappointed. We came here for a Valentine’s Day lunch. I had my favourite which is the steak and ale pie always pleasant helpful service and always get the sense of good hygiene practices.

We ate here on an evening very recently. The menu we were given wasn't the full one shown on the website but there was enough to choose from. The service was excellent. I enjoyed my chicken but my friend was less enthusiastic about the fish and chips. The beer served here is great. I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of dogs in the area I was sat in and one was even sat on the seat with its owner. I don't think this is really fair on people who have dog allergies that might sit there immediately afterwards.

What a find!! From the drinks menu to the food menu, there were 6 of us and everything we had was absolutely gorgeous. Compliments to the chef, the bar manager and the staff. We'll come back for sure. Being a chef myself I was so glad to find a place who shares our values. Thank you 😊

First time to The Barn owl today. The food was delicious and exceeded expectations. Our grandsons face lit up at the size of the burger which he said was superb. At long last a pub which serves up top rate food. We will be back soon.

Excellent understated little pub. Picture what a typical English pub should be like and this is it. Wonderful. Friendly, cozy, good reasonably priced food. Superb breakfast.

I booked a table of 20 guests for my birthday! We started arriving almost an hour early and expected to have to wait at the bar, but much to our surprise we were able to be seated straight away. Wheel-chair acess was easy for my mother-in-law also enabling her to keep her electric scooter beside her. Despite ordering 20 mains and many sides, all good came out around the same time - and there wasn't a single error . All food was well cooked and great quality for the price. The saving staff were proffessional and friendly and play area kept the children busy. The waiting staff didn't bother us unless called during the meal or after the meal. Many of us ended up staying for a couple of hours- having puddings and drinks after our meal and there was absolutely no pressure to leave at any time. Although the put was busy, there was plenty of seating and tables were well spaced so it didn't feel cramped. Thankyou very much.

Went for a Sunday Roast as they do lamb. All I can say is, we've tried many local places for carvery and roasts, this place is the best - by far. The food was perfectly cooked, gravy spot on (not watery like some places) vegetables cooked to perfection. Staff very polite and welcoming. Worth phoning to book as it gets very busy. Will be our new favourite place to go for our Sunday Roast. Thankyou 😁

Attended Christmas Lunch Very nice food, efficient and friendly staff. Was a large group of 17 and we were very pleased to be in our own room with lovely Christmas decorations and atmosphere

Rustic interior with fabulous food. Sunday lunch - cannot fault it. Both my partner and I had the lamb, he having the traditional size and me the small. Perfect sizing. Meat was melting in your mouth, the veg just “Al dente” so not kept under the lights. Nothing was watery or kept warm. Service was excellent too, polite and unobtrusive but with a definite interest. Just wish we could remember our waitresses name - think she was Maria!

A delicious meal in a perfect setting. The Barn Owl is a beautiful old pub with a warm, cosy atmosphere. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We chose two courses from the festive menu, the baked salmon which was cooked to perfection with delicious roast potatoes and tenderstem broccoli and Christmas pudding with brandy sauce. The service was fast and efficient and the staff were lovely very polite and friendly. The meal was excellent value for money. We shall definitely call in again on our way back from Exeter.

In general the pub and rooms were very good. Clean comfortable and staff were helpful. Only downside was breakfast. Serving hot food on cold plates is never a good idea. However, the food wasn't that hot to begin with! It was tasty with plenty of choice but eating it lukewarm takes the shine off somewhat. I did have to ask for mine to be taken back to the kitchen as everything except the beans were barely warm.

Unfortunately we cannot give a 5* because the fish and chips was not good value. The fish vas very small although it appeared enormous because of the batter. It was mostly butter and very disappointing 😞 It's a pity because it's a lovely place but we did find it a bit too expensive.

Where do i start if i could give them multiple stars i would. It is suitable for everyone . i took my husband out with my son and lady for a roast lunch and was given a lovely area with two nice size tables . the place is spotless . The staff is a great asset to them they all have there own very special charm making everyone very welcome and they are all so fast with there service . I love the way the owners have kept the character to this wonderful gem of Kingskerswell. The quality of food they use is clearly the freshest. I had a roast and was sheer delighted when eating all of it . They certainly have a top chef there the potatoes the veg were all cooked to perfection and the gravy was rich and like velvet . They have the most loveliest selection of sweets . So all i can say is just give it a try and you will be like myself just waiting to go again . I must tell you the yorkshire puddings were simply the best . There is no one that could trully give negative remarks if they had the service and quality we all had . Great selection of drinks plenty of space not all close together like other places . A wonderful wonderful place to eat and drink . Can only describe it as a gem of a place to cherish in Devon .Please owners keep it the way you are and never change it. Keeping the standards you have got now . i was told by my future daughter in law how great it was and i wasnt convinced but once i tasted it and we experienced the place i realised her taste was the best she cant think of any where else that is a better place to have food and meet up with family freinds or for partys . I need to touch on something the way you accept well behaved dogs in . I love the compassion as many people have no one else but there furry friend , many are service or assistance dogs . To adults and children so to see a place that clearly accept and like dogs is wonderful . sorry if my review seems long i have to tell it the way it was. regards . Can i ask if you ever considered off cuts of meat and gravy meals to sell to dog owners it would be wonderful a doggy menu . Originally booked here due to its dog friendliness, even though we didn't end up taking our pooch. We met up with a friend for dinner and the menu was so delicious it was challenging knowing what to order! I ended up choosing the fantastic goats cheese burger and my partner chose the scrumptious steak and ale pie. And we were absolutely not disappointed! Only have good things to say about the food, the team and the venue!

This is our favourite local pub, we absolutely love everything about it. Last week we brought a friend here from overseas for dinner. He had the Exmoor Blue burger, reckons it’s the best burger he’s ever had !! Mine was awesome too. Great work all you guys at The Barn Owl

Booked the private room to celebrate my Mum's 90th with family and friends. It was just perfect, excellent service, delicious food and very accommodating of us having birthday cake rather than dessert - thank you to the team

Great stop off for us on our way to Teignmouth, very welcoming landlady & the staff were very attentive, we had delicious baguettes that come with fries & salad, exceptional value for money, highly recommend 😊

A return to form, what was once a staple for good food had lost it's sparkle with the previous change of ownership. Now glad to see that the food has once again returned to a lovely place to eat out.

Middle of the road roast dinner it was okay, but I would go back

We travelled from Wales to celebrate a family members Surprise 18th Birthday. The Barn Owl Inn looks lovely from the outside and has a warm welcoming atmosphere on entering. A small private room had been booked for the celebration and was the perfect setting and size (15people). Good selection of drinks and the food had been pre ordered for ease. Food arrived promptly, good sized portions and delicious. Unfortunately the chef had missed read the order and my meal had been missed. This was quickly brought to the chefs attention. They apologised and said it would be 4 mins, which it was. I was then asked if I would like a free drink due to the lateness of my meal. This was a lovely touch which you don't get very often in most establishments. I was very impressed, as were the rest of the people in the room which made me want to leave this review. I would definitely return and would recommend The Barn Owl Inn. People are always quick to provide a negative review, I think its just as important to commend excellent service too.

Have been here a few times over the last 6 months & have not been disappointed. The food has been great & the staff very capable & with good attitude. The gentleman there (? Manager) is of a great disposition & very helpful. Well done Team. 💚

A family Sunday lunch in great surroundings with great food and good service

Attended for partners birthday, staff were great and extremely patient as ordering in a big group. Food was amazing for all the group 👌

I have been looking for a good traditional vegetarian Sunday lunch location since moving to the area some months ago. I think I may have found it. A glaring omission is that lack of Guinness Zero. That it is not available here was a shock, tbh. The lack of a cheese board for dessert was too. I really hope those things are addressed as I will definitely be re-visiting.

Just had a wonderful family meal The pub had a pleasant fell from the moment I walked in Haveing a good choice on the menu of mainly the pub classics The burger menu had more choices than you would normally expect in a country pud The standard's was set very high toilets was very clean as as the bar and restaurant area's outside was also very clean except for the ash trays could be emptied more often (very small point) Food was really nice we all know the feeling when someone else in your group food comes out and you wish you ordered it but all the food was at a very high standard I ate off the special s menu and was very happy Out of the 6 desert's we ordered 5 was spot on the other was crumble which was a oat base topping which I'm not a fan of (kinda personal choice) Would like to thank the diverse well attentive and friendly staff for a lovely experience

Easy to find and at 6pm on a Wednesday easy to park, by 8pm not so much. Staff were friendly and smiling, food served in a timely manner. The food was delicious!!! Everything had flavour and was filling, couldn't manage it all and was very sad about that!!! Hope to return again soon to try other items on the menu.

I have been coming here every Sunday for a roast dinner which are extremely lovely, we prefer the larger roasts even though we are not big eaters. I would highly recommend this restaurant. the staff are also very friendly.

Went with a group of ladies for lunch today and the staff were so lovely and accommodating, from the time we went in till we left. Lovely dog friendly pub, great food and service!

Food good. Was telephoned twice by the staff. Once to ask where I was as I was late for my booking. I wasn't - I have confirmation of my booking. Then again after we had ordered to ask if I was coming!?! Staff appeared to want to make me feel uncomfortable about whatever errors had happened their end, didn't apologise for ringing twice with no reason, weren't over friendly or welcoming. Steps from car park to entrance are too steep for pensioner to manage, even with a lot of help. Wasn't a great experience, wouldn't rush back.

The food was delicious! A bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Staff were friendly and prompt service received. Parking difficult but worth it for the food. Would return.

Excellent food and service to match. Friendly staff. Came back a second time as my experience was so good. The second time I had the halloumi burger with extra goats cheese on a gluten free bun. It was delicious. The gluten free bun was very tasty and, unlike a lot of gluten free bread, was firm and not dry.

We've been going to the Barn Owl a while now in recent times, Generally only on special occasions or treats. Food is great, service is really good, quick and although it's mostly faux decor it's an enjoyable space and not crowded out. It's been a while since I've had a pint here, as I prefer bottled cider, but nothing to suggest it wouldn't be a decent pint and there's a good choice of brews, draught and bottled. There's a pleasant enough garden space for a summer drink too.

We stayed at The Barn Owl for two night whilst visiting friends in the area in Sept. 24. We immediately received a very warm friendly greeting and checking in was a pleasant experience. We were shown to our room (named squirrel) which was very clean and well-appointed. It was immaculate and every need was catered for. We even had a small bottle of water each side of the bed. We dined in on the first night with our friends. The atmosphere in the bar/ restaurant was friendly and relaxing and the food and service was excellent. The breakfast was also of a great standard again with a very friendly welcome and service. We will definitely stay here again. We had a fantastic stay. Many thanks. Colin and Helen

beautiful Inn with a cozy warm atmosphere! The room is very clean and spacious, bathroom also very neat and clean! At first we thought the location was too close to the highway, but that is not the case at all! You really don't hear anything from the road and it is wonderfully quiet at night. Food is really fantastic! Safety is well organised. Everything neatly indicated. All in all highly recommended👌🏻

Always a pleasurable experience. The roast is amazing, perfectly cooked potatoes, veg and Yorkshire. I like the rice nut roast. Good portion sizes. The Barn Owl is my first choice for a decent Sunday roast. They also do takeaway. The decor is lovely, there is great pub garden and they are dog friendly. We’ve always managed to get a table and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. I’ve taken my parents here today and they also thoroughly enjoyed it (and they are quite fussy). Well done The Barn Owl.

When the accommodation we had booked for a wedding let us down, the Barn Owl fortunately had a room available at very short notice. Lovely room with big bathroom - all very clean and all the staff were very polite and obliging.

We stayed here as our relatives live locally and it is close. The room was nice, clean, spacious and great! The dinner was really nice, well cooked and reasonably priced. The staff were, without exception, really nice, efficient and friendly. We will, without doubt, come here again!

My husband and I visited the barn owl on the 20th August and we had a lovely meal .There is a great choice of meals on the menu something for every one. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and did not rush us . I had the strawberry. Sundae. Which was absolutely delicious . I do not eat sweet things but just fancied one glad I did as it was not sweet the strawberries took the sweetness away . We will be Visiting this place again when we are That way . It is a shame that all the bedrooms are up stairs . My husband can not do stairs . Other wise we would loved to have stayed. We were supposed to be staying at the passage house hotel but checked out As the mattress was mouldy and bedding all wet . Not nice . My husband has fibrosis of the lung And damp does not do him any good . Hope to see you again soon Rena

Excellent well presented food yet again. Having cooked for many world famous figures I find the consistency of food and its presentation is at a very high standard but more importantly it's consistent. Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed

Everything about the Barn Owl, from service to accommodation to food is outstanding. Stayed here 4 times now and every time it just gets better. Thank you to all staff for making each of my stays perfect.

Just like to say a special thank you to Dan, young waiter who had only been working there a short while, he was excellent from start to finish, very polite, very efficient and just overall great service. Food was divine and over all a great dining experience, would 100% recommend.

Could not fault this place at all. We had such a great lunch with our doggy. All the staff were very welcoming. We had an exceptionally kind attentive young lad serving us who was just lovely and friendly. The menu was brilliant and there were so many options. I had one of the specials which was honey glazed duck, red cabbage, tendersteam broccoli and mash which was cooked in all aspects perfectly to my liking. My husband had a burger with all the extras which was equally as well cooked. Followed by dessert which was very good. This place is a definite recommendation for dog owners as it is very dog friendly and our pup felt very welcomed by all the staff. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back

A beautiful venue. On arrival our host, due to a booking error, offered us a free upgrade. The room was gorgeous....the attention to detail from the bedding to the teas and coffees, bottled water to the soaps, fragrances and towels was amazing. The bar was fantastic with an amazing array of beers, wines etc. The dining area again was stunning. Breakfast was simply wonderful with a huge array of cereals, yogurts, juice and the full English breakfast was out of this world. I just wish we were booked in for more than the one night. Thanks to the host and all the staff for making us feel so welcome!
