The Barn Owl, Kingskerswell in Teignbridge

We travelled from Wales to celebrate a family members Surprise 18th Birthday. The Barn Owl Inn looks lovely from the outside and has a warm welcoming atmosphere on entering. A small private room had been booked for the celebration and was the perfect setting and size (15people). Good selection of drinks and the food had been pre ordered for ease. Food arrived promptly, good sized portions and delicious. Unfortunately the chef had missed read the order and my meal had been missed. This was quickly brought to the chefs attention. They apologised and said it would be 4 mins, which it was. I was then asked if I would like a free drink due to the lateness of my meal. This was a lovely touch which you don't get very often in most establishments. I was very impressed, as were the rest of the people in the room which made me want to leave this review. I would definitely return and would recommend The Barn Owl Inn. People are always quick to provide a negative review, I think its just as important to commend excellent service too.

Just had a wonderful family meal The pub had a pleasant fell from the moment I walked in Haveing a good choice on the menu of mainly the pub classics The burger menu had more choices than you would normally expect in a country pud The standard's was set very high toilets was very clean as as the bar and restaurant area's outside was also very clean except for the ash trays could be emptied more often (very small point) Food was really nice we all know the feeling when someone else in your group food comes out and you wish you ordered it but all the food was at a very high standard I ate off the special s menu and was very happy Out of the 6 desert's we ordered 5 was spot on the other was crumble which was a oat base topping which I'm not a fan of (kinda personal choice) Would like to thank the diverse well attentive and friendly staff for a lovely experience

I have been coming here every Sunday for a roast dinner which are extremely lovely, we prefer the larger roasts even though we are not big eaters. I would highly recommend this restaurant. the staff are also very friendly.

Went with a group of ladies for lunch today and the staff were so lovely and accommodating, from the time we went in till we left. Exactly what I would expect. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Food was great. Definitely would recommend. We was on holiday at Devon hills and was always looking for nice pubs for lunch . This one is the best by far . I give a five Star ⭐.

Had a nice evening at The Barn Owl. Ambience is amazing, old English hobbit style interior and decors. Very good service and food was tasty. A must visit place.

Great traditional pub. Service as fantastic and rooms were very well decorated and comfortable.

Food good. Was telephoned twice by the staff. Once to ask where I was as I was late for my booking. I wasn't - I have confirmation of my booking. Then again after we had ordered to ask if I was coming!?! Staff appeared to want to make me feel uncomfortable about whatever errors had happened their end, didn't apologise for ringing twice with no reason, weren't over friendly or welcoming. Steps from car park to entrance are too steep for pensioner to manage, even with a lot of help. Wasn't a great experience, wouldn't rush back.

Lovely dog friendly pub, great food and service!

The food was delicious! A bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Staff were friendly and prompt service received. Parking difficult but worth it for the food. Would return.

Excellent food and service to match. Friendly staff. Came back a second time as my experience was so good. The second time I had the halloumi burger with extra goats cheese on a gluten free bun. It was delicious. The gluten free bun was very tasty and, unlike a lot of gluten free bread, was firm and not dry.

We've been going to the Barn Owl a while now in recent times, Generally only on special occasions or treats. Food is great, service is really good, quick and although it's mostly faux decor it's an enjoyable space and not crowded out. It's been a while since I've had a pint here, as I prefer bottled cider, but nothing to suggest it wouldn't be a decent pint and there's a good choice of brews, draught and bottled. There's a pleasant enough garden space for a summer drink too.

Had an overnight stay with work. Lovely evening meal. Breakfast was outstanding. Rooms lovely. Staff very friendly and attentive.

We stayed at The Barn Owl for two night whilst visiting friends in the area in Sept. 24. We immediately received a very warm friendly greeting and checking in was a pleasant experience. We were shown to our room (named squirrel) which was very clean and well-appointed. It was immaculate and every need was catered for. We even had a small bottle of water each side of the bed. We dined in on the first night with our friends. The atmosphere in the bar/ restaurant was friendly and relaxing and the food and service was excellent. The breakfast was also of a great standard again with a very friendly welcome and service. We will definitely stay here again. We had a fantastic stay. Many thanks. Colin and Helen

beautiful Inn with a cozy warm atmosphere! The room is very clean and spacious, bathroom also very neat and clean! At first we thought the location was too close to the highway, but that is not the case at all! You really don't hear anything from the road and it is wonderfully quiet at night. Food is really fantastic! Safety is well organised. Everything neatly indicated. All in all highly recommended👌🏻

Always a pleasurable experience. The roast is amazing, perfectly cooked potatoes, veg and Yorkshire. I like the rice nut roast. Good portion sizes. The Barn Owl is my first choice for a decent Sunday roast. They also do takeaway. The decor is lovely, there is great pub garden and they are dog friendly. We’ve always managed to get a table and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. I’ve taken my parents here today and they also thoroughly enjoyed it (and they are quite fussy). Well done The Barn Owl.

When the accommodation we had booked for a wedding let us down, the Barn Owl fortunately had a room available at very short notice. Lovely room with big bathroom - all very clean and all the staff were very polite and obliging.

We stayed here as our relatives live locally and it is close. The room was nice, clean, spacious and great! The dinner was really nice, well cooked and reasonably priced. The staff were, without exception, really nice, efficient and friendly. We will, without doubt, come here again!

My husband and I visited the barn owl on the 20th August and we had a lovely meal .There is a great choice of meals on the menu something for every one. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and did not rush us . I had the strawberry. Sundae. Which was absolutely delicious . I do not eat sweet things but just fancied one glad I did as it was not sweet the strawberries took the sweetness away . We will be Visiting this place again when we are That way . It is a shame that all the bedrooms are up stairs . My husband can not do stairs . Other wise we would loved to have stayed. We were supposed to be staying at the passage house hotel but checked out As the mattress was mouldy and bedding all wet . Not nice . My husband has fibrosis of the lung And damp does not do him any good . Hope to see you again soon Rena

Excellent well presented food yet again. Having cooked for many world famous figures I find the consistency of food and its presentation is at a very high standard but more importantly it's consistent. Well worth a visit you won't be disappointed

Everything about the Barn Owl, from service to accommodation to food is outstanding. Stayed here 4 times now and every time it just gets better. Thank you to all staff for making each of my stays perfect.

Just like to say a special thank you to Dan, young waiter who had only been working there a short while, he was excellent from start to finish, very polite, very efficient and just overall great service. Food was divine and over all a great dining experience, would 100% recommend.

Could not fault this place at all. We had such a great lunch with our doggy. All the staff were very welcoming. We had an exceptionally kind attentive young lad serving us who was just lovely and friendly. The menu was brilliant and there were so many options. I had one of the specials which was honey glazed duck, red cabbage, tendersteam broccoli and mash which was cooked in all aspects perfectly to my liking. My husband had a burger with all the extras which was equally as well cooked. Followed by dessert which was very good. This place is a definite recommendation for dog owners as it is very dog friendly and our pup felt very welcomed by all the staff. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back

A beautiful venue. On arrival our host, due to a booking error, offered us a free upgrade. The room was gorgeous....the attention to detail from the bedding to the teas and coffees, bottled water to the soaps, fragrances and towels was amazing. The bar was fantastic with an amazing array of beers, wines etc. The dining area again was stunning. Breakfast was simply wonderful with a huge array of cereals, yogurts, juice and the full English breakfast was out of this world. I just wish we were booked in for more than the one night. Thanks to the host and all the staff for making us feel so welcome!

What a find this was!! We were looking for a dog friendly pub where we could eat. The staff were really friendly and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this place 😊

Found this delightful pub on the off chance. Plenty of parking. Lovely seating areas inside and a cute secluded garden. We had our dog with us and the staff were very accommodating. We were able to sit inside and wander around in the garden with her. There's a pool table and darts board - bonus! The service and friendliness of the staff was amazing. The food was delicious and served in good time. I can't recommend this pub enough. Definitely will be visiting again when we're down that way.

What a great place to stay. Our room was spacious, immaculate, the beds were very comfortable & Breakfast was 1st class. The decor of this place is really beautiful & a credit to the owners. If you love character properties along with excellent service you won't be disappointed 😊

The Barn Owl is an excellent pub. My family and I have been many times and have loved every meal we choose. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming, I can highly recommend the hunters chicken! So yummy!

Half decent pub grub but a fairly limited and basic menu. Will fill you up but not much else. Warning: burgers served on wooden boards so impossible to eat without making a horrific mess.

We visited here last night for a birthday meal. We really enjoyed the food and the friendly service. The food was really well cooked and presented. Lovely atmosphere. We will be coming back soon!

Had a meal here with my daughter for her birthday on Saturday....the food was excellent very reasonably priced...staff were friendly and welcoming.... Would highly recommend and when the opportunity arises we will certainly visit again....

We had the Sunday roast today at the Barn Owl and I must say the whole experience was great . The Sunday roast I had was the Turkey and it was the best Sunday roast I have had for as long as I remember. The Turkey was moist and tender , the Yorkshire pudding was nice and spongy as a Yorkshire pudding should be as my personal preference . The vegetables were cooked just right , cooked but crisp we had broccoli,carrots,mange toute, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage. Also some stuffing and complementing gravy. We eat out a lot at varying establishments but this was the best Sunday roast by far . 10 out of 10 , big compliments those cooking . We will certainly be back .

We always eat at the Barn Owl when we are on holiday in Torquay, well worth the short drive. The food is consistantly excellent, and we have tried many of the options on the menu. The place is very clean and the staff are very professional as well as being friendly.

Lovely Traditional Pub with great food, the staff couldn't be more friendly. The food was exceptionally tasty.

We stayed for 2 nights and would absolutely stay again. Freshly done rooms, very clean, excellent service from the owner & quiet despite being above the pub!

Fantastic lunch. I had a steak pie that was a thin pastry slice of a bigger pie and packed with steak. Rounded off with a happy smiley service.

Not the same Barn Owl sadly. Brought a friend here for a meal. We both had mixed grill. Streaks came under cooked. Rare came raw medium came rare. Raw fat in the gammon. Raw hard peas. Chips very soft and anemic looking. Raw cherry tomatos, not sure why they wernt done on the grill with the steaks. No check back, tried to grab staffs attention a few times. Felt like they didnt want us in there. Wanted another drink too but left without having one. Really big let down.

Excellent carvery, served on various size plates. We had a significant waiting time, although booked online. Drinks a bit pricey, but service very attentive.

I had the unexpected pleasure of staying overnight at The Barn Owl after my car broke down on the way home from holiday. My room was lovely, really well decorated and appointed and spotless, with one of the comfiest beds I've slept on in a long while. Breakfast the following morning was great with a good selection, including vegetarian options. If I'm ever in the area again, The Barn Owl will be my first choice for a place to stay!

What started off as OK (apart from the cold calamari) was sadly let down by the service after the meal. It seemed that multiple staff caused some confusion. We had to go to the bar to ask for the bill and then despite the bill and card being very obvious on the end of the table, no one seemed interested in taking our money.

We were greeted by a smiling and friendly young lass who asked what we would like. Then the lady manager stepped in and said last orders had been called and refused to serve us. I carefully explained that we had walked and were rather thirsty, we had arrived less than 30 seconds after" last orders" had been called, I hasten to add not "time". She didn't care, rules were rules. Disappointed, and feeling there was no point in pleading further, I silently turned to leave, the manager, to our backs, said, "set out earlier next time". This was in front of three junior staff! What an excellent example of poor customer relations she showed them. We are pensioners and were sober and causing no problem, there was no reason to be so rude. My review is for that one particular lady, representing the pub, not the pub or the rest of the staff as we were not given the opportunity to use this public house. Her attitude has probably lost the pub hundreds of pounds from us over the next few years as our visiting friends and family will not be "setting out" towards The Barn Owl ever again.

Stumbled across The Barn Owl by mistake whilst on our way back from Dartmouth, glad we did, car parking is a little limited but other than that we had good food, good service and good beer/drinks and the dog was welcomed. Will definitely return if we come this way again.

Met a friend for lunch today and very poor food. We both had fish and chips and the fish was small and awful . Chips average and the garden peas hardly cooked . Very poor when you serve up food like that and not cheap . Will never go back again

Delicious roast and key lime pie

Excellent food, as always. I’ve eaten here twice this week. Gammon steak lunch time on Tuesday and this evening I had the steak and ale pie which is the best pie I’ve ever had. I must say I often choose this from the specials menu, if available . My partner had half roast chicken which he really enjoyed. I like it because it also is and has that feeling of being very clean which you don’t always get in pubs, and also it has six ladies toilets. That might seem an odd facility to comment on, but I just think it’s another great quality of the place.

Attended for partners birthday, staff were great and extremely patient as ordering in a big group. Food was amazing for all the group 👌

Delicious food and substantial serving. I ordered the lasagne which was delicious served with a lovely amount of salad and garlic bread. My husband had calmari to start followed by half of chicken. The portions were very generous, sadly meant there was no room for dessert. Staff very friendly. Definitely will visit again when in the area and would not hesitate to recommend.

Fantastic meal with my family and another table of friends which we booked as we’re staying in a local camp site. Absolutely stunning inside decor, seating bar and toilets. Food was amazing, as was the staff. Highly recommended and will be coming back when back next year.

What a fabulous place to eat, relax and enjoy a welcoming wonderful atmosphere. We discovered this gem of a restaurant not long ago but it has become our most favourite place to eat. Being in Newton Abbot for a course, we stopped here for a well deserved break. The welcome was wonderful! Professional but warm. The menu was quite extensive, with good sandwich choices for lunch, which we opted for. Service was excellent, friendly but professional. Slick. The food was delicious. Plenty of it too. Good value for money. We all left well fed! Thank you to those who served us that afternoon. If ever I’m in Newton Abbot again, this is definitely on my return list!

We booked a table as we knew it would be busy , on arrival meet by friendly staff and shown straight to our table Drinks order done , time to check the menu and specials I choose the chicken and bacon and leak pie My wife the mighty burger .seeing as it was busy the service time was very quick the food was piping hot the pie was on the specials and and a large portion full of chicken , bacon and leaks in a lovely not to thick pie crust with vegetables etc If you like to see a full plate of tasty food , full of flavour presented correctly then this is the meal you want The mighty burger was as it states , full , nearly falling over and full off taste as you would expect A lovely dinning experience , worth every penny spent today ,

Stayed for 2 nights in the Owl room. Lovely and clean. Comfy bed. Lovely decor. Breakfast both mornings was exceptional. Service excellent. We would definitely recommend the Barn Owl.

I ordered 1/2 pint cider. I was given 1 pint , they changed it but then they tried to charge for it. We were told the desserts were mostly homemade- so we decided to go for those rather than have starters. When we got to decide, only the brownie was homemade. The chips were very ordinary and not crunchy. Unimpressed

One of the best pubs in Torbay/Newton Abbot, always friendly, cozy, and not too expensive.... Not eaten there for a while, just been a quick drink in recent times.

Dropped in on a Sunday by chance and staff managed to squeeze 3 of us in for a Sunday roast. The roast was amazing and very good valued for money, great atmosphere and will definitely be going back.

Lovely staff, so accommodating, if you haven't booked they will do their best to fit you in!Delicious food, lovely atmosphere. So lucky to have it on our doorstep!
