Friendly village pub. Stayed for a couple of nights. Room was a bit tired and damp. If you are on business and want to have breakfast you will probably be out of luck as it is served between 9-10am. Good selection of ales and cider. Everything just a bit sticky.

Restaurant looked like a traditional pub, pleasantly decorated. But that's the only positive thing I can think of to say. Despite being quiet, it took a while to take our order and even longer to get our drinks because the young waiter couldn't find the right glasses! But the one star review comes from finding not one, but two flies, one actually baked in the lasagne and the other in the salad on another plate. Our waiter was horrified and apologetic, but we declined another meal. I am very disappointed that such a major hygiene issue did not warrant an apology from management, only the cost of the two meals subtracted from the bill. One to avoid!

From the moment we stepped into the Kings Arms the service was poor. We were not greeted and took ages to get seated. Drinks took ages to arrive and food is another story. A very disappointing dinner, food presentation was extremely poor, almost like they just threw the food onto the plate. Steaks had no sauce options and we were told the chefs don’t want to make a garlic butter. No onion rings available and only told once the food was delivered to the table. Salmon fish cakes seemed to not be salmon and rock hard. Half a chicken, no garlic butter and way over cooked. So so dry and no taste. Our waitress was great and saw the poor quality of the food. The other staff members did not seemed bothered by our disappointment. We certainly will not be back.

Stayed here for one night to attend a family funeral. I cannot fault the food it was well presented and hot. The room was another matter. The bed had hairs on the sheet, the bathroom had mould in the shower and the tiolet and sink were dirty. I accept that the property is old but that does not excuse it being dirty.

Called in for a meal in the evening, we were quite hungry and we ordered Half a chicken in Garlic butter sauce and Lambs liver, with bacon, vegetable's and mash. when the food arrived there was no garlic sauce on the the chicken and it had been done to death, so dry it was uneatable. The liver and bacon arrived, no bacon no vegetable's uncooked potato in the mash and the liver had not been trimmed of the gristly pipe bits. Not good and didn't seem to care about it either.

I’m not rating about the rooms as I didn’t stay in the rooms at the Inn but I’m sure they’re very nice and comfortable. The staff displayed nice service. Reason for the low review was based on food, absolutely awful! Over cooked, over fried, supermarket quality taste and school dinners display. Very disappointed as we travelled far to attend a ceremony. Food was a massive dissatisfaction and disappointment.

I did not stay at this hotel so cannot comment about the rooms. However, I did take some friends for a meal and it was really bad. We had a sort of beef stew with dumplings. There was very little meat and what was used was obviously left over from Sunday roast. The dumplings were like rocks. I complained but had no reaction from the lady in charge. I live locally and will never take anyone there again.

Howdy, folks! Hope u r enjoying your night somewhere else, 'cause I'm deeply offended by the fact my bestie got stuck in a tar pit and didn't get a drink in this spot to relax. Four adults stopped here for lunch. Absolutely awful service and food. We ordered one of our party ordered mussels which was a special on the menu. When the waitress delivered a plate of food for one of our other party she told us the cook was running around panicking because she’d never cooked mussels before! Half the mussels weren’t opened (so off) and dish sent back. All the other 3 plates of food arrived about 10 mins apart. One of our party ordered full breakfast and was advised cook didn’t know how to cook scrambled egg and when plate arrived the beans on the plate were cold. The other party order fish and chips advertised with tartar sauce. There was no tartar sauce and when we asked for it the waitress rudely said you didn’t ask for it. The other party ordered pie with onion gravy. There was hardly any meat in the pie and no onions in the gravy. Finally to top it off they tried to over charge us by £30. Would NEVER use this place again It also looked dirty and had ripped seats and dirty tables and yet they claim on they’re sign they are the best pub in Devon!

Oh dear. It’s ok saying you are a vital part to a community but travelling customers are an integral part of a pub and restaurant. This was a spontaneous visit on seeing a local pub. Firstly we were placed on a table that was actually behind another, so you had to ask customers sat there’s to move to get past. Went for something easy so had ham egg and chips. They arrived and the “Brace of eggs” were both holes broken and overcooked. I cannot believe a chef thinks it’s acceptable to even serve. When we tried to quietly point out about the eggs ended up having a very difficult conversation as the adjoining table practically joined in because the waitress spoke across them to us! “So you want some more eggs” yes please. They arrived and one was fine, second broken again. It’s an egg! How can you not cook an egg. The ham was wet, most strange. Looking at previous posts I see that feedback isn’t accepted well. Quality needs to be improved if you are going to retain any business of repeat visit. Don’t bother with the ham egg and chips!!

We fully agree with the last review and would add our room 6, was also the worst we have stayed in. In addition to non-existent sound proofing from bar area below until midnight, we were woken at 6.45am by noise from exposed water and waste pipes in our room from guests using their facilities in rooms above. Our bathroom/toilet also had a great view of car park and seating area both into and out through the unfrosted window. Room was small, dingy, dated with holes in plaster walls and exposed electric wiring. A sign on the outside of the the pub states "The Best Pub In Devon". Since this vote must have taken place in the fifties the sign has lasted a lot better than the pub! Would not stay again if they paid me - AVOID

Came to this beautiful, quaint pub in a village near Exeter for my birthday lunch. On booking we asked if they were serving the full main menu which they were. The staff were lovely and pleasant although we were seated next to a group with two large dogs which I would personally liked to have been given the choice of sitting somewhere else. The service was quick and when ordering was told some things unavailable. My starters in smoked salmon was meant to be served with dill and lemon oil but it was an everyday salad dressing that was too strong for the salmon. The mussels came in a cream sauce but they had not been prepared properly first and were not scrubbed and cleaned to get all the debris off the shells. The chicken wings in teriyaki sauce were nice (note no bowl for cleaning our fingers given for mussels or chicken wings) also had to ask for a plate to put shells and bones on. My son in laws squid was like rubber bands! My sirloin steak was ok and so was my daughters rump steak though we were sad that there was no beef dripping gravy. My husbands Barnsley double lamb chop was very small and did not come with the mint jelly as advertised. My other daughter had the double pork burger with bacon and the brioche bun fell apart so cutlery was needed and it was extremely dry so most was left. My son in laws ribs were so tough he had to send them back only to be replaced by equally tough ribs also the bbq sauce on them was not nice either. We did not bother with dessert! The meal came to £153.00 with £20 reduction for the ribs already taken. Our drinks were coke x 2, 1 lemonade and two tap waters so food in this establishment is a little on the pricey side considering none of it is locally sourced or quality meat. I had heard good here was good years ago but they must have changed the chef. It seems most of the items are deep fried or microwaved. This establishment may be ok for a baguette or a pint but not a hearty meal let alone a special event. Not recommended in any way!

I really don’t like writing a negative review but feel people need to be aware as I wish I had been! I can only speak for room 1 as that’s the one we stayed in. Probably the worst room I’ve stayed in in my life, especially the bathroom. Filth all around the toilet and pipes, tiles were dirty and had hairs on them. The ceiling looked like it was about to cave in from water damage. The bathroom generally stunk of piss. The room itself wasn’t too bad but not especially clean. Looked like blood on one pillow case and old coffee and crumbs in the tea tray. Very noisy from the bar downstairs if you’re trying to sleep before midnight. Only gave us 1 towel for a double room so had to ask for another one. Even though I stated I was staying with my wife and child when I booked. The bar staff were actually friendly and helpful but a cleaning lady had the cheek to knock on our door at 09:50 and say we had to be out in ten minutes to which I replied, we’ll be out as soon as possible as my wife was breastfeeding and she said she had to be in at 10 to clean it by 11. She was pretty rude to be honest and pretty damn cheeky seeing as the room looked like it had never been cleaned! Definitely not worth the £90 I paid for the room. Didn’t risk breakfast. Avoid!

The Kings Arms Inn Exeter - A Barrel of Laughs and Suds! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Let me tell you a tale about The Kings Arms Inn Exeter, where merriment and ale flow in equal measure. This place is an absolute hoot, my friends, and if you're in search of a good time, look no further! Walking through the doors of this inn is like entering a comedy club. The staff, led by the maestro of mirth, make you feel like a long-lost friend. They've got jokes for days, and their wit is as sharp as the edge of a freshly popped bottle cap. You'll find yourself chuckling before you even get to your table. Now, let's talk about the ale, shall we? The Kings Arms Inn has a lineup that's more impressive than a juggler with flaming torches. From crisp pilsners to robust ales that'll knock your socks off, they've got something to tickle every taste bud. Take my advice and sample their "Belly Laughs Brew" – it's so good it'll have you rolling on the floor with laughter. The ambiance at The Kings Arms Inn is a riot. The walls are adorned with hilarious pub signs, and the laughter from patrons fills the air like the chorus of a comedy show. It's the kind of place where you can't help but make friends with strangers as you share a pint and swap funny stories. Now, let's not forget the food! The menu is a comedic masterpiece, featuring dishes with names that'll make you snort with laughter. From the "Giggling Gravy Pie" to the "Laughing Lamb Shank," each plate is a delicious punchline that'll have your taste buds in stitches. But the real stars of the show at The Kings Arms Inn are the regulars. These colorful characters could give stand-up comedians a run for their money. You'll find yourself engaged in witty banter and uproarious conversations that'll make your sides ache from laughter. So, my dear friends, if you're in the mood for a barrel of laughs and sudsy delights, make your way to The Kings Arms Inn Exeter. It's a place where laughter reigns supreme, and the ale flows as freely as the punchlines. Cheers to unforgettable moments and belly laughs that'll make your visit truly memorable! follow ted on his adventures twitter @tedthelabrador #KingsArmsInnExeter #ComedyAndAle #LaughsOnTap

After seeing the Kings Arms sign on the A30 we headed there for supper. The sign professing to be the ‘best pub in Devon’ is the extremely misleading and hopefully not true, surely the bar cannot be that low. It is dated and grubby - I love ‘olde worlde’ but this was another level. Whilst the food prices weren’t extortionate, they were overpriced for what they were offering. We had scampi and the others had Hunters Chicken, it was possibly one of the most underwhelming meals we’ve ever had. Judging by previous reviews (which I wish I had read earlier) I will get a response saying I don’t give fair reviews. All of my reviews are based on my experience and I have a balance of good and bad.

We stopped for a quick lunch and chose to share the chicken wings and the bacon, brie and cranberry baguette. The food arrived in satisfactory time but was basically dumped on the table and the waitress turned and walked away before we had time to ask for a couple of plates. I went to the kitchen door which was near our table in the courtyard, walking passed staff who were having their lunch break, and asked for a couple of plates. A gentleman passed me 2 plates, one of which had food smeared on it and the other covered with water. I handed back the dirty plate and returned to our table. No one came to check whether we were happy with our food. I went into the bar to get some more serviettes as the chicken wings were obviously messy and sticky. The girl asked if all was OK. I said "vaguely " and she replied "good". The baguette was lovely but the wings were only just cooked and rather tough. As we left there were no staff in the bar area for me to suggest ways of improving the food. There was no hot water in the toilets for me to wash my hands after eating the sticky wings. I hope that the owner who, has replied to previous reviews, takes this review as a way of making improvements in service and food.

Usually stop at the King's Arms, on our way out of Cornwall or travelling back down to Cornwall, The food was extremely disappointing, my lasagne was burnt way overcooked and garlic bread was toast basically ,I complained and had £3 taken off the meal ,but I've had better ready meals ,we will no longer frequent the pub.

I'm afraid to leave an honest review of this Inn for fear of not having a room available next time I am in the area. It was lovely!!!!! While trying to find a last minute room for the night, I called around the area from Exeter to Newton Abbott and was not having success. Most places didn't have a car park, one had one but charged guests to park in it, huh? Another place wanted 50£ for a room and if I wanted breakfast, 70£!!!! Like a full English is worth 20£?? Another place wanted to charge me upfront on the phone but would not refund me if the room wasn't to my liking, the pictures online were not good so I declined that. When I called the Kings Arms, the young lady on the phone was in the middle of the lunch rush and asked if I could call back after 3, it was not a problem and I was heading in that direction so I just stopped in to check. The lady that answered the phone was very polite and friendly and advised there was just a single left with a shared bathroom, but had it's own shower. It was only 34£ and since it was last minute I had no issue sharing a toilet. The room was nice and clean, the bed comfy, 4 fluffy pillows, an older TV (which worked fine), there was a sink and a small shower. They had a kettle and a tea and coffee set up and they included two small packs of biscuits! Even the big chains are too cheap to leave you biscuits these days! The hot breakfast was included and tasty! I loved the place so much that I reserved a room for the upcoming Saturday when I would be back and was delighted to find out they had a room with a bathroom and tub available. They didn't need prepayment and the cost was just 40£!!! When I returned, I was happy to see that this new room was once again very clean, comfy bed and 4 fluffy pillows, coffee, tea and biscuits, a smart tv and a big old school bathtub with tons of hot water, it was soooo relaxing! I saw that another review complained about noise from downstairs in the pub and yes you could hear everyone talking but it shut down by midnight and was quiet and I was too busy enjoying a hot bath to care. Again, the breakfast was great! This is a 15th century inn and pub.....I have been in and stayed at quite a few over the years and usually there is smell of damp and not always maintained well. However, the Kings Arms is well looked after with no bad smells, good carpet, nice paint and decor throughout. They have a massive car park that's free to use and a large garden in the back with a play place for kids! I really can't say enough good things about the Kings Arms!!!! Thoroughly enjoyed my stays and would return in a second. Have already recommended it to others I know. The staff is exceptional and friendly, on my first night the young waiter had told me the kitchen closed at 9pm but on realizing his error that it was 8pm, he figured out which room I was in and came and told me. Service that you just don't get in many places anymore. Many hotels and Inns could learn from this place in all aspects, including price!! If you are looking for a place and a room is available then snap it up. If you are used to airtight rooms with no noise, don't stay at a centuries old pub. Those who appreciate the history of pubs will love it and go down and join in the noise. 😁

Lovely lunch at the King's Arms Inn. The selection of meals are reasonably priced and very appetizing. The inn has a small car park within the grounds. Nice comfortable eating areas and areas if you just wish to have a drink. A good local public house with friendly staff. The food is very good, I would recommend it.

Lovely old pub. Food is pretty good but the chef was somewhat cavalier with cooking the chicken for my chicken and bacon salad. As the photo shows, the chicken is pink and a different consistency in the middle. Despite having apparently been temperature tested (how do you accurately test something that is a matter of millimetres thick?). That said I was offered a replacement which I didn’t want and then offered a free dessert which I didn’t need. Great service, really nice pub and will come back to try something else another time
