The Old Chapel - JD Wetherspoon in Blackburn with Darwen

Tastefully repurposed (As Spoons often do). From a former galleried chapel to a thriving pub. Definitely a busy hub in the centre of Darwen. Fab fish n' chips. And other pub favourites. Beer a plenty, plus every tipple known to man. Highly recommended 👌

Really like this place it has character and a good atmosphere . There is an extensive menu, and the food is simple and to me very acceptable. Would have given 5 stars overall the attention to clearing and wiping used tables was lacking.

Another Wetherspoon, another unique carpet. I would give it 6 stars if I could for the simple reason that the ladies toilets are on the ground floor! Men's are still upstairs though. This Spoons is an old church, and has some stained glass windows, and strangely enough an art gallery of posters! Great upstairs area to sit too. There's a massive bird statue just across the road which is pretty cool.

You get your monies worth plus any chef who brings you a steak looking like this you go back 👍👌 keep hold of him 🤗 6.10 2023 another fantastic steak cooked to perfection Ive been to Italian restaurants who haven't been able to make a steak like this chef absolutely bang on 👍 a true credit to Darwen weatherspoons EDITED 4.9.2024 jd weatherspoons have added a game changer to the menu! The best ramen I've ever had! And so affordable for the size of the bowel I added a poached egg and a char grilled chicken breast with a pint of Guinness and it was still only £10.52! Will be full all day now and the taste is amazing the flavour is beautiful I can't describe how good it was I definitely recommend you try it of your a noodle fan!

We ordered a traditional breakfast with scrambled egg and a large veggie breakfast. Food was ok, although veggie breakfast came without any hashbrown andwe had to wait 20 mins for these to turn up by which point I finished my breakfast and my friends had gone cold.

Beautiful old building..plenty of seating..lower floor and upper seating...also outside seating...

The food was terrible ,false advertisement like one of the the burgers said heatwave burger and said it would have spicy chilli mayo which it wasn't and it said it was posed to be hot but it didn't even scratch the surface and I love spicy food but the chicken was decent.

Good scran but Found a fly in my food not happy but got a refund n fresh food then beer was better than food

Had a chicken maple bacon salad hardly a showstopper .very expensive for few pieces chicken not great maple bacon.few sad looking lettuce leaves 3 pieces cucumber couple pieces tomato.

We decided to call in here for lunch at the last minute. The food was lovely, as always. I ordered the chicken and bacon salad, there was more than enough for me. For dessert I ordered the mini cookie dough with ice cream, which was amazing!! Would highly recommend this place, I have been here a few times and never been disappointed.

Decent 'spoons. Bar service sometimes slow at busy (and occasionally quiet) times, but app works well; it is often faster than queueing up, even just for drinks.

Wonderful old Chapel but the food was the worst I've had at wetherspoons and I've been to about 150. 70% of the menu was out of stock and the pizzas we ordered were over cooked and the topping only covered half the base . Very dissatisfied

Absolutely rude staff member clearly hates working there so I would sack her she calls customer liars and walks around with a miserable face maybe she should work Karen's diner ! But the one with the piercings was lovely meal was nice bar one of our steaks on the mix grill looked like a cats ball bag tried to tell miss miserable but she called us a liar 🤣🤣✊🏼💦

Food was awful. Steakpud looked it had been in microwave to long... garlic bread was really dry and diagusting... kids cheese and ham pizza was awful.... defo wouldnt eat there again.... sorry but no

Have to say.. probably the nicest weatherspoons i have ever been to. Needs a lick of paint here and there but what weatherspoons doesnt?!. I’m not just saying this because it’s my local pub. I grew up in altrincham and moved to darwen 10 years ago. I will say the food can be a hit and miss, but the majority of the time it’s bang on. Cheap drinks obviously. When it comes to cleanliness it’s by far the best I’ve seen when it comes to a weatherspoons. The service from staff is great as always. If you are ever unhappy with anything (which is rare) the staff will correct the problem without any hesitation. Honestly, it’s a lovely atmosphere with friendly people and the space is unreal. I don’t take pictures as I’d rather you saw the place in person, which will allow you to make up your own mind on the place. Check it out. What you got to loose.

Service at the bar was very poor and slow often being ignored, tables with drinks spilled all over, toilets were clean.

Great place to eat, inside certainly feels more like a posh restaurant rather than a very well priced weatherspoons! Access allows disabled/ pram entry and the staff have always been very helpful. The food is delicious more so for it's very reasonable prices.

Whilst patiently waiting my turn behind a women, calum the lad serving (long hair) kindly served one of the regulars who just walked up after I wanted a couple minutes. Served him first..I'm guessing he couldn't wait and extra 45 seconds for me to make and pay for my breakfast and latte..very very rude. All for the sake of about a minute. I don't walk up and expect to go efore anyone already there. This toss pot clearly did and the server supported it..bad manners to say the least..

This is the perfect atmosphere if you're with a group of friends or by yourself. The service is wonderful, and the workers are also wonderful. If you need to burn some time alone, this is the perfect place to go: with plug sockets and cheap drinks and food - there's no better way to spend your time and keep yourself charged. And if you're with some friends, I implore you to bring them here for a swell time! Cheap drink & food is guaranteed, and it's such a wonderful environment you'll find you're getting lost in it! If you're looking for a more refined and pristine, dine, and fine experience , this is not the place. However, how can you complain about what is already here? You can't. Simply put , you can't.

Great wetherspoons pub in a lovely building.

Not been here since my Dad died 3 years back, it was our favourite go to for a mix grill and a couple of pints, the lager tasted Bob on and the mix grill was bloody scrumptious.. I had forgotten how good, God bless yer Dad for bringing us to the Chapel.

Poor got ordered some things to table and never come

Pub nice, Sunday morning and a match on at Ewood Park, must be 300 people in here and only 2/3 on the bar, expected spending £200 between 4 of us, ended up having two drinks after waiting 42 mins at the bar. Poor management..

Found myself with an hour or 2 to kill and in need of something to eat. Both had the fish and chips, served quickly, and freshly cooked. The only problem had a short wait before ordering as lunch menu doesn't start until 11:30.

The food was awful, only had about 10% of the menu available, and what was available came to us wrong. However the cocktails were pretty good

You get what you pay for. Went about 11 am on a Saturday. I always like witherspoons. But this was probably the worst. The tables looked like they'd just had a kids' food throwing party. The breakfast was OK apart from the deep fried rock cakes, formerly known as black pudding. Toilet cubicles need a lot of work. Literally. And the tea/coffee station was an absolute mess. Obviously short staffed? If not then the manager needs to pull their finger out. Won't be going back there in a hurry.

Really surprised with this place, we visited on a Sunday morning it was busy but we found a seat. The breakfast was good and very cheap, we’ll definitely be back.

Always enjoy coming into The Old Chapel, whether for food or a drink, I also love the classic look of the decor, it gives off a certain architectural ambience.

Nice and cosy place to eat in the morning and have refreshments. Food typical for Wetherspoons.

Large premises over two floors. Very busy but still quick service. Sticky tables as normal but pizza particularly good at this spoons.

Quite a few things not available on the menu

Nice pub close to the train station and town centre. Good selection of beers as usual for Wetherspoons and the obligatory Wetherspoons slow service. Great interior with seating on two floors. We didn't consume food, but for those having food what I saw coming from the kitchen looked very nice. Atmosphere was the typical Wetherspoons flavour, friendly banter, but noisy. Not bad upstairs where we sat.

It's my local but mine and many others complaints is the waiting times at the bar.

It's a pretty building, and the food is what you would expect from a spoons. It's cheap and Everyone will find something eatable on the menu.

This place must have the rudest staff in the country if you try to get them serve you by interupting their little meeting at the end of the bar you are given a rude glare, Sir Tim Martin sort this place out .

Typical Wetherspoons impressive building and cheap beers. What more do you want? I didn't have anything to eat so can't comment on the food.

Food was lovely and freshly cooked, staff are friendly but as it’s an older building it can feel cold until the the log fire warms up

Reasonable priced meals - ours weren't cooked right - one undercooked, the other served tepid/cold. Yet in fairness they were re-cooked and we received free desserts for the inconvenience - so all was well. The free refills on hot drinks is real bonus too. Will definitely return.

A very spacious Wetherspoon, although it does look a tad run down with the chipped paint on the ceiling.

Went in for drinks with family. Was very busy. First time I had been in and was well surprised at how bright it was. Beautiful staircase leading to balcony tables. Toilets were clean and plenty of them. Had a really nice time.

Great food and very reasonable prices. It was quite busy but food arrived very quickly. We ordered through the app which worked very well. Wetherspoons seem to have this working very well. Very pleasant staff. All round, a good experience.

Firstly remember this is a 'Spoons' but been here twice now, both times clean, good service. Busy and tables are well spaced so doesn't feel over crowded. Free parking nearby.

Always enjoy a breakfast at this weatherspoons. They have a log burner, and now it is a cold. And the atmosphere is lovely. The ambience is nice, and you can still see remnants of the old Chapel.

Had fish and chips here yesterday weds and i must say that the meal was not up to your standard at all. The mushy peas were OK and the chips were OK (except that the portion was very small). But now the fish was not very nice, it was a curled up joke which was mainly batter and allthough the fish in it was quite good it wasnt value for what i paid ( near enough £10). So all in all it was POOR VALUE and on that showing i would not return to wetherspoons darwen. Thankyou and await your comments.Colin

One of the better Wetherspoons this one. Plenty of room. Nice decor. Comfortable and pleasant surroundings. I don't eat the food in Wetherspoons as its cr*p but as with all Wethers, good for guest ales and drinks at very reasonable prices

This place is getting scruffy. Its cold and needs sorting. We had one in here then went a few doors down to Bridgewater. Lovely, bright and warm.

Food easy met expectations. Service a little slow, but a fabulous building with 3 hours free parking nearby.

My daughter 17yrs old and her friends ordered a meal and soft drinks ,which they paid for then was asked to leave which they had id. Please explain why and it was 6.10pm and they did have I'd which wasn't asked for.

Unhelpful arrogant staff, need to be professionally trained to deal with the public in a professional manner.Manger needs to change is profession certainly in the wrong job.

I'm planning to have another meal. But unfortunately I won't be getting the fish as they are a bit on the small side, not value money. But I have yet to samle other dishes.
