The Old Buttercross in Rutland

Popped in on Saturday 19th October for a lovely family meal for myself, wife and 6 yr old daughter. The menu was vast and would suit both young and old. They also has a lovely selection for our 6 yr old daughter with prices suited for all budgets. But what really made our visit was our server Carys. She was so friendly, attentive and made a fuss over our daughter. Having visited several places to eat around Rutland over the past few years I would rate Carys as our best server we’ve had for a very long while. Old Buttercross defiantly need to keep hold of her and she definitely made our visit enjoyable, thank you so much ❤️❤️

I run a Veterans coffee morning which is for mainly elderly Veterans who may be socially isolated and lonely. We found ourselves without a venue in October. Mykala at The Buttercross came to the rescue and allowed us to hold it there but also gave unlimited tea and coffee. It was a great morning and everyone who attended enjoyed it. Fab visit! Great, friendly staff and really good menu choices. The lady who served us was great with my 2 children, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back!

The food was ok…nothing great! The main course didn’t have enough gravy. The peas were cold and it looked like it had been thrown on the plate. The food arrived so quickly it’s clearly not cooked to order. The dessert was fairly grim. The sticky toffee pudding had no toffee sauce and the sponge was dry and tasteless. The custard was sparse. I won’t be coming again.

Great pub to take a young family. There was plenty of choice on the menu to suit all tastes. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Would certainly recommend

Our local One of the only places our son feels comfortable eating, he loves the pizza's. The Sunday roast is fantastic, everything is hot . The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are attentive. Matt is very hospitable. We love The Old Buttercross.

Great for family meals. Really good food and flexible children’s menu. The play areas inside and out are wonderful as kids can be seen at all times and the play equipment is safe and fun. The main menu is also varied and the food tasty. Good value all round.

Popped in for our usual Friday family dinner. Lovely meal as usual. Staff are always very friendly and the food is great. They are doing 30% off at the minute, which is a bonus. Great play area for the children to provide us parents with a bit of a break. Even the family behind us that spent the entire evening trying to work out how to get their meal for free by increasing the volume if their unreasonable demands didn't spoil the day. Libby was a great server, friendly, helpful and efficient. We were a group of 6 with 2 people who have gluten allergies, separate menus were provided and the food choices was taken first in order to keep the allergens and non allergens options separate when being cooked.

We held my parents 60th wedding anniversary celebrations here , mikayla and her staff were brilliant, food excellent and hot and all presented perfectly, this is our local establishment that we frequent often 10 out of 10 as usual. Brilliant evening g had by all.

Fantastic meal, great service and definitely value for money. I had the gammon and it was cooked perfectly. They were happy to swap a couple bits to also adhere to my dietary requirements. Well be returning for many more visits

Never been so dissatisfied at the buttercross before. Ordered a filled baguette... Which was no where near filled! Was supposed to be filled with chicken and bacon. I recieved a tiny piece of bacon and barely any chicken. It says it come with chips... But again ridiculously small portion. For £8.25 I was expecting to have had a good lunch not leave feeling hungry still! Did speak to the waitress regarding the quantity who said thats all you get!! Should have gone to spoons!! I guess this is why its always near empty at the buttercross upon recent visits!!

It was a really busy Friday night, but our food came out in good time and was delicious. All the steaks were cooked perfectly. The staff were all friendly and attentive too. Thanks for a great night and a fantastic atmosphere for a family celebration.

A super meal for our family celebration gathering. A very large party but service brilliant and all meals out together. Constant attention to when more drinks were needed and checking up if we had everything we needed. Very pleasant and attentive staff and a big thank you to Libby who was amazing.

We visited for a meal for my dads 80th birthday. My brother flew over from Belgium for it. The meals were superb and the apple crumble was just mindblowing. Mum and dad were so impressed they will return again as will I. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.

We've been here before and it's a great option for family, so we decided to go again with our kids and their grandparents for a late Sunday lunch. We were a bit confused on arrival as while we were welcomed no one offered us any menus or anything There were standard menus on the table but no Sunday lunch or kids menus despite having 2 children with us. We asked for kids menus but at the time weren't aware of a different Sunday lunch menu so didn't ask for that. We also didn't have a drinks menu on the table so had to do a bit of guessing when the waitress came to take our drinks orders. We were going to order via the QR code as we'd done before, but it wouldn't go to the payment page so we ordered in the "traditional" way - which is hugely preferable honestly! We ordered from the menus on the table so were a bit disappointed when we saw some awesome looking roast dinners arriving at the table next to us - if we'd been given Sunday lunch menus or if there were any on the table at least two of the party would have chosen that option. So that was a bit poor service wise. However the food we ordered came in good time and was really very good. Pizzas for kids and grandma all looked excellent (and tasted great too apparently!), burgers were also yummy and the pie went down well too. Desserts were also great, I really enjoyed the trifle cheesecake and grandparents loved their sticky toffee puds (with custard AND ice cream - many thanks to our lovely waitress!). Overall another great visit, the only negatives were the poor advertising of the Sunday lunch menu and also the table was really sticky :/ But we'll definitely be back despite those minor things, the kids love the place and the food is good, and the service is generally lovely :)

We had a lovely relaxing afternoon. Food was lovely, the service was amazing and in particular Libby was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and she was very attentive and professional. We are regular visitors and she is a welcome addition to the team

Thank you to The Old Buttercross for delivering a delicious meal last night after I’d had to stay late at work. Sam greeted us with a warm welcome at the door, promptly took our food and drink order and Mikayla who was in the kitchen cooked a blooming delicious meal, even taking the time to come and talk to us during her busy shift. Better still, I had a voucher to get 30% off main meals!! A sharp contrast to my last experience in a Marston's pub at The Roebuck Market Harborough who seem to not understand how hospitality works, instead adopting the ‘you don’t like it, go elsewhere’ attitude.

Visited on a Thursday lunchtime. Enjoyed Gammon and Pie meals. Charlotte was our waitress and very friendly and helpful.

The Old Buttercross is not only our local but was the first place our son with additional needs felt comfortable enough to go which has made a huge difference to our lives. The staff are fantastic and are always happy to try and accommodate his food choices however odd they may be!!
