Really disappointing. I went to the restaurant for a specific meal they had advertised on their online menu. When I got there, it turned out that the online menu was over 2 weeks out of date and there was a new menu in place, not with my meal of choice on! The new menu was uninspired, but I chose a chicken dish which was the best of a bad bunch. It then turned out that that chicken dish was mid-advertised/incorrectly described, stating it was with a chicken escalope, when in fact it was just a rolled bland chicken breast. The calamari was undercooked too. Signs of a chef that doesn’t know what they’re doing, and a management team unable to get the basics right.

You have customer service legends like Saffron and Trystan working here, yet the food really lets it down. Quintuple deep fried arancini that fell to crumbs if you looked at it the wrong way. Ravioli that paled in comparison to tinned Lidl stuff. I had fish and chips as a main and while I am not averse to seafood, I would like to know why they are leaving scales and skin on the haddock before frying? The batter was very nicely done but unfortunately the contents it contained were slimy and scaley. Also I thought the chips were quite tasty! My partner enjoyed the meatball starter, but I wasn't convinced ;) These guys are charging £10 for a starter and £20 for a main, but I'm not being hyperbolic when I say I've had FAR better in wetherspoons 😋 Luckily for us, Saffron and her team saved the day!

We had a table booked today, but received a call to say kitchen closing at 4pm. Could we come earlier. Which we did. We were asked to sit outside, not shown to a table, there was food leftover from the previous sitting. We waited for 10 minutes, before the food was removed. The waiter then didn't return. Despite asking, we neither ordered drinks or food. We eventually gave up, and decided to go elsewhere. The lady at the door, said we should have ordered our food and drinks at the bar. Odd, as we saw drinks being delivered to the table next to us, she didn't make eye contact or offer to help in any way. How were we supposed to know about ordering at the bar? There was a sun shade over our table outside, as the sun was quite strong. But they retracted it, despite asking if we could have it left down. Bearing in mind, we changed our plans to accommodate their kitchen closure, they did very little to welcome us, as paying customers. Disappointing experience.

Absolutely avoid at all costs. Arrived at the restaurant with our dog having booked a table and we were told we can’t sit inside with a dog, go outside. So I asked the woman (older with brown hair) which table would you like to sit at, and she said ‘I don’t know’ so we found ourselves one. It had plates and drinks on from the previous guests and took them 15 minutes to clear, and the waiter didn’t return for our order. So I went and found the same woman who greeted us so kindly at the door and asked if she could take our order - ‘order at the bar’ was all she muttered. We got up and left. Terrible service, even worse attitude, and not getting any of my money. We went to the Eliot Arms down the road which was much nicer and would recommend!

Unfortunately, very disappointing experience. Many small mistakes (e.g., forgetting cutleries, having to ask for water 3 times etc), but the biggest issue is the food quality. It is almost uneatable and way over priced. The staff was kind so I feel bad leaving this review, but the restaurant definitely needs major improvements as it’s one of the few available for hotel guests. Unsure why the hotel does not make more effort here.

Went for a birthday Sunday roast, service was excellent but the food was lacking. I went for the 3meat trio which consisted of a small slice of beef and lamb and half a slice of turkey, lots of cheap potatoes but little in the way of accompanying vegetables. It was served with bacon wrapped sausage which was a tiny cocktail sausage, pretty bad value for £22. Didn’t go for a pudding as there were only cold options at £8/9 each. Definitely better value options in the area.

Below average, expensive Restaurant with nice waterside location. Comes across dirty, with lots of dust & dirt on floors and along the windows. Smell of wet dog. Door to outside seating slams shut after every person walking through to the bar area, so around 5 times a minute, after a while it is all you can hear. Burger was OK but very overpriced at £20. Had the Affogato for desert which was good, but the gelato was crystallised. Service was acceptable. They add a 12.5% “service charge” by default then also ask for a tip. The service was not worth 12.5%. Avoid if at all possible.

Disappointing. Ultra processed crumb covered chicken burger, long life poor quality bun, poor quality frozen chips, ultra processed salsa. Where have the chef skills gone? Lazy cooking at best. £20 for a chicken burger they pulled out the freezer.

I've got to say this as for the money you spend, the food was terrible. I really expected more for the money you have to spend. £20 for a very dry chicken burger. A super market seeded bun, 2 terrible southern fried chicken burgers, literally a tiny smear of the mayonnaise they talk of in the menu, 1 piece of lettuce and 1 slice of tomatoe which was quite hard. Oh there were a few chips which were the best thing on the plate really but not worth the £20

We booked for Sunday (18 of us) for my Sisters Birthday. We pre-ordered all the food as requested. Those of us that had the Roast Dinner were NOT impressed by it. £22 for a trio of meat, 1 small slice of Turkey, Lamb & Beef, it came with 3 tiny frozen roast potatoes (not even home cooked), 1 sliced carrot, 3 slices of parsnips, 1 sprig of broccoli, a pig in blanket, tiny stuffing ball & a tasteless yorkshire pudding. When we asked if this was it the waitress replied yes if you want more vegetables then you will need to pay "SERIOUSLY" I have seen 2 year olds eat more than what was given. The young lad that served us was very polite and I felt sorry for him as he was trying to do his best, but the lady had quite the attitude. The setting was lovely but none of us will be going back there again, if this is the food quality & quantity you get. Should of gone Toby Carvery at least you get a decent meal. On the plus side the Lemon Cheesecake was tasty and very light.

Outstanding Experience at The Old Boat House Restaurant We recently visited The Old Boat House Restaurant with a group of 20, which we increased to 26 at the last minute. The team accommodated us without hesitation, handling the change seamlessly. The food was absolutely 5-star—every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was exceptional; the staff were efficient, professional, and communicated effortlessly to ensure everything ran smoothly. There were no delays, and the entire experience felt well-coordinated and stress-free. We also had one vegan guest in our group, and they were very pleased with the variety of choices and the quality of their meal. It was great to see such thoughtful inclusivity in the menu. A huge thank you to the team for making our gathering such a memorable one. Highly recommended!

Wouldn’t recommend the pizza, it’s about 80% cheese and just very unappetising. No member of staff checked back on us to check on food or ask for more drinks. Focaccia was half in thickness as the night previously, felt as though I was having a Warburtons thin for £6.50! All members of staff were young and stood behind the bar chatting when our plates were stacked up waiting to be cleared . Overall, I just wouldn’t recommend. Very disappointing visit to The Old Boathouse. The waiting staff were wonderfully, but the meals were brought out and weren't what we ordered, so sent them back, the waiting staff were very apologetic, and gave us our drink free, which wasn't really needed as mistakes happen. Not long after the proper meals were brought out, roast lamb dinner. The food and plate were cold, the veg as like it had come out of the over, the lamb was tough and rubbery. I do hope they sort out these issues for future customer as it's a lovely place with great staff.

Turned up on a Tuesday night, car park empty place barely half full and we got turned away as no space and fully booked. We didn't like the tone or lack of apology from the greeter; no effort to squeeze us in and very poor of the De Vere hotel to either not make it clear we should book or to not ensure hotel guests get priority. Offered an 8:30 booking or advised to go to the Brasserie but its not cheap or family friendly; 8:30 for 2 two toddlers slso far too late. Having eaten here before its a place of convenience (to the hotel), food & service is average and there are far far better places to visit locally. Probably the worst service & food for the price I've ever had. On arrival we decided to sit outside as my daughter has hyper sensitive to chill etc, we informed the staff when placing our order, we ordered appropriate food and awaited food. The calamari starter that myself & son had was described in menu with garlic aioli & lemon it arrived with small side salad with CHILLI'S & CHILLI SAUCE. My daughter evacuated to another table away from us and within seconds had to take piriton tablets. My daughter ordered the Heritage tomato & buffalo mozzarella Focaccia toast, basil oil, aged balsamic starter that came with 1 half of a tomato only Main courses were not much better my daughter ordered greak salad Heritage tomatoes, cucumber, olives, red onions, with added chicken breast again the tomatoes were in short supply and the chicken. My wife ordered Lasagne verdi with Garlic foccacia, brought better from waitrose I'm afraid. I ordered fish & chips which was ok but not at £19.00+. My son had the burger with he found very dry but edible, he also ordered GIANT ONION RINGS good job they weren't small ones probably would not find them. All in all for over £120.00 it was abysmal. We’ve tried contacting the restaurant several times to discuss this with them but have not been able to get through over the phone, and emails have been ignored. Absolutely horrible. The place was so noisy that I could barely hear my wife in front of me, between the table of four people who were talking and laughing way too loudly, the music too present and the sounds of breaking glass, it felt more like a canteen than in a restaurant. The staff are helpful but the food is terrible, the "artisanal" bread (at six pounds!!) is bland and tasteless as if the artisan had made a mistake in the recipe and had preferred to take out frozen bread to apologize . The fries are frozen and the vegetable risotto is inedible, the steak is okay, just ordinary and the quantities are mediocre. The sauce is charged (2.5 pounds) which is once again unacceptable. The drinks are ok but completely overpriced. Finally, we left just after the course without having cheese or dessert because the noise was becoming unbearable and the wait was too long. For an experience like this, for two drinks, two mediocre dishes and a few pieces of frozen bread, we got almost 80 pounds (!!), which is completely inconceivable for a meal of this quality. When we see the other comments, we see that nothing is done to make the offer better correspond to the price or the quality expected for a meal in a setting like this. I will never set foot in this restaurant again and I hope that those who read this will not make the mistake of setting foot there either, otherwise they will surely end up being as disappointed as everyone who posted a comment like this one before them.

The menu here ( on google reviews) is badly out of date and prices sharply increased. Walked out before ordering as no burgers on the menu (for the kids).

This place is beautiful the interior shame about the staff and food the staff were lovely but clueless countless bottles and glasses smashed long waits for food not even in a busy restaurant… food come out all at different times and wrong to what we ordered… then when we received the mains it was freezing cold not coming here again way to expensive and over priced

Nice venue - lovely view and a very clean and bright interior, and the staff were all very friendly and polite. But the food was really not great. We went on a Sunday and the main option for adults on the menu was Sunday Roast, with a small handful of other options. Most of us ordered a pork belly roast, which came with limp, under-seasoned carrot, parsnip and broccoli and a small cube of pork belly. The pork belly was a small portion of dry meat yet not crispy - the fat had not rendered and was in no way crisp. One of the pork bellies came as two cubes and looked slightly different to all the others. The potatoes were tough but not crispy on the outside and on-the-edge of cooked in the middle. Two were served with a Yorkshire pudding, two without. Upon requesting the Yorkshire puddings one was served with a hair embedded in the batter. All the Yorkshire puddings were sad and presumably from frozen. Overall it was not a hugely generous portion, but not too bad. I would not have wanted to eat more of it. We also ordered onion rings, which were the kind of lifeless rings you get in Iceland intended to live in your freezer. We also ordered a kids' portion of Sunday roast, which was exactly the same size as the adult portions, if not bigger, just served on a smaller plate. It was less than 1/2 the price of the adult portions. At nearly £20 per roast we'd hoped for better, and it's a shame because the venue and staff suggested the promise of good things.

Whilst 3/4 of the meals were fine, fish was over cooked and borderline inedible. Mentioned this to waitress who said she would speak to chef but heard nothing back. Then waited to order desserts but no one ever came. In fact waitress only arrived when we started to put on jackets. Sadly ruined the evening and would not therefore recommend.

Just left there. £85 for 2 starters and 2 mains. The food was minging. A packet Yorkshire Pudding, under cooked and cold parsnip and carrot. Overcooked beef and all stone cold. They need to apply some basic cooking principles, heating the plates would be a good start. I won’t be back.

One Vegetarian, two vegans and one GF - we managed to get something for all of us!! Great food, great location. Unfortunately, it was dark so no lake view, but inside was quite nice. Service let down when we ordered two of the same dessert, and only one turned up, but still, it tasted very nice!

Went here during a visit to the Devere Hotel next door. Food was plentiful and delicious. My husband had the beef brisket bon bons to start with a horseradish sauce, they were delicious. The crab starter was larger than I expected and was outstanding. The main meals did not disappoint either and as for dessert, glorious. A beautiful setting with very attentive staff.

Pros: quick service, staff were friendly, plenty of space, were very conscious of allergens, and reasonably priced. Cons: food was mediocre, pouched eggs were hard, and hollandaise was thickened with flour, a few snots hanging from one servers nose, very noisy and echoey space, one dogs continuously barking but staff didn’t say anything.

I visited the Royal Oak with my family in May '25 to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful, with gorgeous surroundings and very charming. Our hostess showed us to our table and gave us plenty of time to choose from the menu without keeping us waiting unnecessarily. The service throughout was efficient and friendly. The menu is nicely varied, with a subtle twist on traditional pub grub, and priced perfectly. My son and I had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection, and the rest of our party had the cider battered haddock which they enjoyed very much. The ambience is perfect, the beer garden is spacious and well appointed, and the location is excellent. Very highly recommended, whether for a date, a meal with friends or family, or a special occassion. I wouldn't hesitate to return, and will definitely be doing so,

Seems to have taken a nosedive in terms of service and quality. This used to be a great place to come and relax but not anymore.I understand it's been bought out ( franchise). My latest and last experience...The coffee was awful. Lots of young male staff just hanging around behind the service area, stale cakes. Won't be going back again.

As a cheese fan I am used to being disappointed by cheeseboards. Served too cold. Uninspiring selection. A few grapes & some Branston pickle on the side. Step forward The Priory! They embrace early ordering so the temperature is right. A fantastic selection - and generous portions - and homemade delicious relishes etc. Absolutely brilliant. Generally a good dinner too. Service not quite perfect (the check back as we ate our final mouthfuls, and staff addressing us as WE - including themselves - which is always bizarre. YOU is fine!) And we stayed the night too - nice comfortable rooms at a good price. Easy stroll into Tetbury & free parking. Definitely recommended.
