Just wanted people to know this place does not accept macmillan cards to allow you to use the toilet in an emergency, my husband was refused access to a toilet yesterday , 12th August, despite asking about the menu first and then asking for the toilet. Because his need was urgent due to his condition he just said forget it then. The owner then came out and shouted at my husband saying you've just upset a member of my staff. I explained that he was a macmillan card holder and that his need was urgent but she still didn't offer assistance, just said I haven't got time to talk to you, so we left in a hurry. We are two old age pensioners by the way.

Had intended to drop into the Red Door on our way to catch a ferrybut there was no parking so continued into Heysham. The village was a pleasant surprise and the Old Barn an excellent find. Simple food well presented and an excellent espresso! Friendly smiling staff was also a real positive.

Our first visit to Heysham to see lovely St Peters Church when we came across a lovely cafe called The Old Barn. Had a lovely warm welcome by the lady owner & had the best latte I have had in a long time! Even better than Costa! Fyi they have all types of different milks. I wld go back to Heysham just to go to this little gem & have another catch up with the lovely lady owner!

Went to the barn in heysham for lunch on a recommendation. We were there at lunchtime and only wanted a sandwich but we sat down to be told no food was available except cakes as they were too busy to make anything. It was not very busy. Only 2 tables with people in them. Will not be going again

I asked for two coffees with plenty of milk. Was told 'what type'? - I replied just a standard coffee but with plenty of milk as I don't particularly like a strong coffee, the response was 'an americano then'. Two coffees turned up with the tiniest jug of milk even seen, the cups were so full you had to pour half away to get any milk, I had to ask for extra milk which was begrudgingly provided and it still tasted disgustingly strong. His response was that we should have ordered lattes. Thing is I didn't want a latte I wanted a standard coffee with plenty of milk - not an extreme request in my eyes. It cost £4.40 and I feel thoroughly ripped off, no apology or offer of a refund. Very, very poor service

We were excited about the breakfast for which our friends had told us lots of good things. The food was delicious, good portions, reasonably priced and very clean. The staff on duty spoilt it for us. Hence the 3 score. We arrived early Sunday just as staff were opening, we were a large party - all very hungry. From the outset staff were rude and unwelcoming. We felt we shouldn’t be there and were putting them out. We did discuss leaving as we felt so unwelcome however my friend assured us we wouldn’t find nicer food in the area so decided to stay. And the food was nice. While we were eating the owner did pop into the cafe dropping some food off and came to speak to us. She was lovely. So who is working is likely to make or break the experience. If you can ignore rude staff or time it for the owner to be there - I would recommend going.

We were doing a walk from a book that highly recommended The Curiosity Corner Tea Rooms but for some reason they were closed so we tried the Old Barn cafe next door. Perhaps we just caught the cafe at a very busy time but it took 25 minutes before we received our food. We called for lunch on a glorious day seeking a tasty sandwich as we were due a larger tea, and we were delighted at the result. Although we wanted sandwiches, we could not ignore the choice on the menu TO SUIT ALL DINERS! We had an egg mayo on brown, and a tuna mayo on white. they both came with a crispy salad and fresh coleslaw. The bread tasted so fresh, it could have just been baked, and the sandwich fillings were generous and lovely, as was the salad. Service was excellent, and prices were very reasonable. We will never hesitate to return as we also ate Al Fresco on a gorgeous day.

My husband and I visited The Old Barn again on Sunday following many other enjoyable experiences here. I was pleased to see that there were some new additions to the menu- many of which took my fancy (this is not usually the case at all other establishments given that I am a very fussy eater and vegetarian). I had the halloumi wrap with chips which was delicious. My husband had the large breakfast which he thoroughly enjoyed as always. We had ice cream on the way out too (couldn't resist). You always get nice larger scoops here, unlike other places we have visited where the scoop size is stingy but the pricing is expensive. The young girl who served us was very efficient and polite. As always, we will be back for more visits in the future.

This was our second visit to The Old Barn. The first was just a flying visit for a warm drink on a cold day. My partner and I liked the feel of the place then and vowed to return. We did so a few weeks later, this time for food. As on our first visit, the welcome was warm and friendly. There was so much to choose from to eat despite it only being a small cafe and the prices are very reasonable. We chose the large breakfast and were not disappointed. There was plenty of it and the quality was excellent. We had intended to go for a walk after our food but we were too full! We did however manage an ice cream to finish off though! Next time we are going to try the mouth watering home-made cakes. They all look divine. The couple who run the cafe are very friendly too. Had a panini and a coke here last weekend, coke tasted a bit odd but assumed they were serving off brand. The panini was chucked together and so we decided to chalk it up to experience and avoid in future. Today we were back in Heysham with my inlaws and they wanted to go here (based on the good reviews) I wasn't that mad on the plan but agreed. This time, i decided to ask for 2 bottles of pop rather than glasses to avoid getting what I assumed was the off brand type... the bottles came and tasted just as bad as the previous week - confused i examined them closer - they expired December 2014. When I turned to point this out to the staff they looked decidedly uncomfortable so I can only assume that they were aware that the drinks were out of date they were taken away and replaced with 2 that were good until September 2015 which is at least a future date. I should have waiting till our food came before pointing this out as the bacon sandwiches we ordered were burned to charcoal to the point the bread was stained black and so unappetising that I was unable to eat mine. I will never ever eat here again and would strongly reccomend avoiding at all costs.

This was our third visit to the café. I ordered a full English breakfast, minus the tomato and one black pudding. There was no reduction in price, but that was my choice. My wife ordered a cheese and bacon Panini. The waitress said she didn't know the cost. The cook stuck his head through the hatch and said they had never been asked for this before and he would need to work out a price. He suggested we ate and then he would tell us the price. I should have dug my heels in at that point, but thought what could go wrong. We ate our food - my toast was like cardboard - the hardest I have ever had, but the rest was fine. When I went to pay, I was informed that the Panini was £5.75. I queried this as their menu said from £4.50 with a choice of fillings. I asked what the cost of a plain Panini was and was told £4.50. I again queried this and was told that it was £4.50 with one item of filling. I asked what the cost of an extra filling was (cheese and bacon are optional fillings) and was told - £0.50. I pointed out that I had been charged £1.25 extra for an extra filling. He said I was confusing the price of extras with the breakfast menu. I said that bacon or cheese should be the same cost wherever it went. I also pointed out that it was he who told me the price of extras was £0.50.He did not appear to comprehend. I said that I was very unhappy and regarded this as a shoddy practice. I said that I had previously given them a glowing report on this site, but would post another reflecting this occasion. He said he was sorry, but seemed to regard the issue as closed. The sum of £0.75 will not affect my future nor damage my bank account, but we will never set foot in the place again. That is a shame as we had previously been more than happy. I just don't like poor customer service. If you are visiting - check the price before eating.

After washing and shopping and visiting the allotment I once again popped in to enjoyed a half breakfast (the half breakfast is a plate full and I doubt I could manage a full one) and it was only 10:30 am. I don't usually eat locally but when I do I love to visit this cafe where I have always been made to feel welcome (which I find even more important when eating alone). I am going to be housebound over the next few weeks and so looked and took away samples of their Take Away Menu for future treats. These were soup, quiche, lasagne (yet to be sampled), egg custard (for an elderly neighbour (I am waiting her review) and last but not least the smoothie (which helped maintain my energy levels mid afternoon - was delicious and even better than ones I make myself). Thank you to Jenny, Jamie and Heather for creating a delightful oasis. Four of us visited today for lunch. It isn't the largest restaurant but there are enough seats inside and out. The lady who took our order said that there might be a slight delay, due to the orders already placed. We were grateful that she was honest, rather than keep us in the dark. Any doubts proved groundless as the food arrived in a very reasonable time. The four of us all had different orders, but individually agreed that the portions were on the generous side. The food was fresh and very tasty. I personally had the all day breakfast - mentioned in another contributor's entry - it was as good as they said. I also have to agree about the amount of food. I have a decent appetite, but had to admit defeat. I left one black pudding and a couple of tomatoes. I just did not have any room left. Every single item was excellent, but I have to single out the bacon as even better. The people who run the place are just about as helpful as anyone could wish for. They maintain a spotless establishment, where good old fashioned customer service rules.I am not one to lavish unnecessary praise, but it would be remiss of me not to mention their prices. I was frankly amazed at the low prices. I have been to cheaper places, but never one of this standard, at such a low cost. Every so often I decide to torment my stomach. I let it get to the gently rumbling condition and allow its digestive juices to bubble away with nothing to go to work on. Then I look for an eatery with a good reputation locally and on Trip Advisor.I enhance the sweet torture by going to a place that cooks it to order. The Old Barn at Heysham, pushes all the buttons. Okay, the wait seems long when you`re hungry, but good things will always be worth waiting for. As much as is humanly possible, everything seems to be cooked on the premises. The food is excellent and the service is efficient and friendly. It couldn`t be more different to the pub/restaurant chains that sell food that has been warming up for hours, to create a beautifully dry, bland and withered `meal` and all for the highly appropriate sum, of £5.99 for three courses. The Old Barn scores highly on food quality, meal size, taste and value for money. If anyone goes for three courses, then they are greedy or foodaholics. I thought that I was one, but two courses filled me up. Hang it all, I intentionally went in hungry, just to be able to have three courses !!At a cafe with a five star cleanliness rating with good food at the right price, I would urge any hungry hunter to visit this establishment.

The Old Barn is a lovely cafe, ideally placed at the end of a promenade walk or cycle ride from Morecambe to Heysham. The cakes are home made and we were made so welcome. The coconut sponge cake was fantastic. The Old Barn has a loyalty card and our card will quickly fill up. We will return soon.

Stumbled across this little cafe today , sat outside with our dog , the staff are very friendly and the food is all home made . My partner had the half breakfast ( which was a plate full !) and I had the Spanish omelette with salad and a large pot of tea for 2 . It was great food and priced very reasonably . The home made lasagnes had just come out of the oven and looked and smelled fantastic ! We were so impressed we bought a piece of asparagus and cheese flan and a piece of millionaires shortbread to take home . Well worth a visit !

Walked over from Morecambe last Sunday, it opens at 10.00am and the 3 ish mile along the prom is a good way to be ready for breakfast. They do a light breakfast which doesn't over face you.. bacon, egg, sausage, mushroom, tomato, black pudding, beans and toast.. One of everything, and the bacon is bloomin' lovely. Two breakies with two brews, (one a proper coffee) was £10.45.We sat outside as we had our dogs with us, (not sure if dogs are allowed inside).

After a walk along the sea front and through Heysham village, Mum and I had worked up an appetite. We decided to eat at "The Old Barn" as its' appearance was fresh, clean and airy. The menu is varied and we both chose home-made steak pie which was served with a puff pastry lid, chips and peas. The steak was plentiful and tender and the chips were crispy and dry. We had a little wait but that's to be expected when food is home made and "freshly" prepared. We both agreed what a tasty meal we had had and said we would definitely eat there again. The the waitress was pleasant and efficient and so too was the owner/chef who showed genuine interest in wishing to learn if we'd enjoyed our meals. I felt the urge to write this review as "The Old Barn" deserves a pat on the back!

Waiting for the ferry to the Isle Of Man, we went to Heysham village to avoid sitting in the ferry port and stumbled across the old barn. The epitome of average, there's nothing that hits you when you enter: blandness rules. The cakes and coffee we had were tasty. The scone I had was huge, unfortunately the jam and butter that went with it were from packets. This place has potential, it needs to grasp it to survive.

I attended our annual Christmas celebration here. The food, staff and service were excellent. The table looked very festive with candles, crackers and decorations. We were made to feel very welcome. I would recommend The White Cross as a perfect venue for a Christmas celebration.

I love this place especially your crispy cake slices. But your hot chocolate today was not good. Didn't complain as haven't got the time but far too much cream and marshmallows in hit chocolate so there felt like no hot chocolate to drink and what was there was not hot. Go easy on cream !

I have been a number of times and really the food is the best of any cafe in Lancaster and Morecambe bar perhaps the Whaletail. The cakes and soup are always especially outstanding. A definite winner of a place
