Visited for lunch on March 27th. Celebrating Dad’s 73rd birthday so he got a complimentary Prosecco. We were in the conservatory which is a lovely space - my 4* comes from a very trivial slight annoyance that the sun was blazing through and the roof could do with blinds or some arty drapes. Loved the fact that the music was an echo speaker so volume could be specific for each area. This restaurant is part of Lincoln College for hospitality and chef trading so it’s a very ‘feel good’ restaurant as it runs as a bit for profit. We had the lunch special and because each course was a manageable size we indulged in the three courses. Particularly liked the presentation as I don’t like my plate piled high at the expense of quality. We all had blackberry smoked salmon to begin, Dad and sister had belly pork main, with mash potatoes, dad’s wife had monkfish with puy lentils and I had cauliflower curry. All thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts were two pear crumbles with very tasty artisan cardamon custard and a spoon of sorbet. And two chocolate ganache with icecream and dark fruit coulis (we ate them before photographs! Last time I was here was 17 years ago for my own 40th as I’ve left the Lincoln area now but I’d have no hesitation booking to return. £30 per person including drinks x3 alcoholic.

Went here for the tasting menu, and I believe it's up there as one of if not the best restaurant in Lincoln. The food is interesting, usually well balanced, and super affordable considering the level of quality. The wine pairings will improve as they change menu's, but overall a 5/5.

Me and my partner came here yesterday for Sunday lunch and its safe to say it lived up to the somewhat high expectations. The food was cooked well, tasted good, and was presented with a bit of pizzazz, but not in a pretentious way. Our server - I didn't catch his name, but he had grey hair - was really inviting and charismatic and just made the whole experience feel that bit more special. The dining hall was also lovely, with a nice atmosphere and a comfortable temperature, and the conservatory style roof also allowed lots of sunlight to come through which overall made for a really pleasant dining experience overall. Lastly, the value - whilst there are other restaurants in Lincoln with a similar standard of food, none do it for £30 for three courses. I'll happily have my meal cooked by students in training if its going to make it more affordable! Cons were: The green beans were a little under for my liking, the yorkshire pudding was a little crispier than I'd usually go for, and although the glazed carrots were nice, they were a little too acidic for me. The gravy, although still tasty, was also a touch too red wine heavy, which meant it was a little too tart. Overall the food was still very tasty though. We will absolutely be returning for another lunch service at some point Solid 85/100

My recent visit to The Old Bakery left much to be desired, leading me to rate it a mere 2 out of 5. To start with, the atmosphere was not as inviting as one might hope. The chilliness in the restaurant made for an uncomfortable dining experience. We found ourselves having to request a heater, a task that shouldn't have been necessary. When it came to service, it was truly lacking. The staff's attentiveness was minimal, and I even had to leave my table to find a salt shaker in another room. This is not the level of service one expects when dining out, particularly when the prices are so high. Speaking of the prices, they felt exorbitant for the quality and quantity of food we received. For just three people, our bill totaled around £88, which seems unjustifiable given the lackluster dining experience overall. Also there was a burger sold with crisps ( yes crisps not chips like Pringles crisps) (the ketchup wasn’t ketchup it was salsa is how I’d describe it) another thing there was no alcohol, no starters or desert just a main all totalling to around £88 In summary, my visit to The Old Bakery was disappointing due to poor service and overpriced food. I hope they can address these issues, as it could potentially be a charming spot with the right improvements.

I really like the concept of the old bakery. It's a college owned restaurant for training budding chefs, waiters etc and all the profits go back into the college to fund better training for the students. We had the tasting menu which was excellent value. Having been to a number high profile restaurants (le gavroche, Benares, and so on) we have a good idea what a great restaurant is like. I would say that the food at the old bakery is very safe in that they aren't trying to push any gastronomic boundaries but what they do, they do very well. The locally sourced venison was the highlight and the brownie at the end was probably the best brownie I've ever had. All in all 9 courses for less than £100 is pretty good value at this level (adding wine to each course was another £30, which again is incredible value). I will definitely be going back and would recommend it to all.

Unfortunately the booking process is flawed and we weren't given information on how to get in, only contactable during restaurant opening hours (which isn't a lot). Was left not able to get access and had to book last minute elsewhere. Got a refund but the ordeal was stressful, wasted a lot of our evening and left us out of pocket significantly as we had to book somewhere else last minute. No attempt of recompense in order to retain our custom which is unfortunate as would have liked to give the place another try.

Went for the tasting menu with my partner and our friends, having never been to the Old Bakery before. The location is central but quiet, right behind the castle which is lovely. An old brick building full of rich history, which has been modernised without losing any of the original character! The staff were so friendly and helpful, attentive without being overbearing and really knew their stuff! The restaurant is part of Lincoln college, and as such is non-profit, which makes you feel like you're doing something to help, as well as keeping prices low. The food was incredible, 5 courses (plus a cheeseboard and palate cleanser) covering all areas of culinary delight. Tried new things, enjoyed classic staples and had a wonderful time overall, topped off with a lovely lagavilin 16 and an espresso finisher. Will DEFINITELY be back for more!

We recently held our wedding reception at the Old Bakery and we couldn’t have been happier with how everything went. Faye went above and beyond to help us plan the reception and nothing was too much trouble for her. This meant we could enjoy the celebrations on the day without having to worry about the little things. Poppy and the rest of the staff also did a brilliant job; they were all friendly, polite and helpful. All of the food was incredibly tasty and was just what we wanted for our wedding meal; the Jacob’s Ladder was a particular favourite! We arrived at 3pm on Friday when check in opened. We were met with 'oh we have no one booked in until Saturday'. Mild panic sat in whilst I found my confirmation email. We were shown to our room and asked to go back down so they could show us the exit out the back. The back was very overgrown and the young lady showing us slipped on the path at the gate. She didn't know the code to the gate so asked for my phone number and she would text me the code and an emergency phone number as we would be the people there that night! No text arrived. I returned to the room where there was no information at all (except the fire route on the door). You normally get a folder with information of the area at least. The window didn't open. I went downstairs to get milk, the WiFi code and asked again for the gate code. There was a man at a table on a computer and he said he was not normally there but helped, getting milk and provided the wifi code that didn't work. I asked about the window and advised it doesn't open and that he would find a fan and bring it. He brought the fan about half hour later and when I asked about the gate code and emergency number he gave me the code and his personal number! The room was nice but there was a noisy mini fridge and every time the tap in the ensuite was turned on there was a loud pump. The ensuite was extremely narrow and looks like it was a converted wardrobe area. On checkout we went downstairs and it looked like the restaurant area had been cleared out with a random scooter inside. A lady came to us and said 'room 2?' Took the key and showed us the way out. No 'hope you enjoyed your stay'! I was very disappointed with our one night stay as expected service from the old bakery bearing in mind the cost of the room that didn't include breakfast. Would not recommend as there is better accommodation in the vicinity. To top it off my phone rang at 4am the next night as someone had managed to get my phone number to ask me for the gate code! Not impressed.

Level of service was excellent and attentive, standard of the room wasn't as high. Bed was two mattresses stacked giving a night like being on a waterbed, window was painted shut and could not be opened, a fan was supplied after we pointed this out. This could so easily be a five star venue. It's just lacking a slightly better drinks offering and perhaps the deserts let it down a little. But the venue is pleasant and the staff were both pleasant and attentive. The starters and mains were both excellent. Went for Sunday lunch, really good value for money at 24.95 for three courses. I had soup, beef and chocolate delice, my partner had mackerel, venison and the banana pudding and a cheeseboard. The bread was tasty and the amuse boucher was okay. The soup was great, velvety and nice flavour, the mackerel starter was a big portion and the skin ok the fish wasn't torched but that was a minor fault. The beef brisket was soft and delicious, the portions were good sizes. Roast potatoes not very crispy but good flavour. The venison main was slightly misleading on the menu as it mention a sweet potato cake and it wasn't expected that the venison would come incorporated into the cake, it wasn't to my taste personally. Both desserts were delicious! We also took a toddler with us and they were very accommodating to say it doesn't give the vibe of being suitable for young families as they do not supply high chairs but we had no problem taking our own. The venue itself was lovely, cozy and full of character and then staff were attentive and thorough.

MORE AT Google

It's a nice little homey restaurant and a beautiful ceiling that opens up into the sky. I like the breezy atmosphere and it feels like a quiet escape. But the lackluster medley of courses I had was a regretful let-down. First off, wasn't really a fan of the rye crisp with my salmon bresaola. I thought it was rather hard crunchy than airy-crispy to balance that thick chew on the bresaola. Second, I was a tad bit confused because I thought I assumed I was going to be served with game rillette salad but ended with pork Caesar's salad and returning a dish and promoting food wastage is just terrible so I shifted my mood on the positive note. But I thought it was boring. I couldn't really taste much of the honey and lime. I could only satiate the pork fat drenching the salad, hoping for that salad leaf crunch. For the third course, I had basa fillet. I was not expecting it to be soaked in heavy batter and deep-fry it. I could still taste the oil pocketed on the sides. The mashed potato underneath wasn't smooth and creamy, but rather curdly. The steamed, side veggie, honestly, why were they in there? Lastly, the thick and creamy, "saving grace" risotto I was so hoping for ended up with loose grains and runny base. Mushrooms could've been thinly sliced at least to reduce the moisture and maintain that fork-friendly creaminess but no. I thought it was nice of the staff to offer a mid-range priced white wine pairing for my fillet instead of marketing the high priced labels for a recommendation but it didn't go well. The falanghina didn't elevate the flavour of the battered fish or at least subdue the oil. But then again, it could just be me. It is, after all, a famous restaurant. P. S. The grapevine snaking on the brickwall is a delightful sight against the blue sky and bright sun.
