Lovely meal, had a prawn cocktail, steak fajitas and a strawberry soft meringue roulade. All spot on. The main bar was in good spirits, but for quiet meals the separate dinning room is a nice contrast. Lastly the service, really good, friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend.

Visited this lovely restaurant this evening for the first time in ages due to circumstances. As always the food and service were amazing. Staff friendly courteous and helpful.

Absolutely delicious meal in this cosy, friendly dining room. Can’t remember ever tasting a more delicious pie (game, port and stilton) Staff were all lovely. It’s a busy place though so best book ahead or you might miss out. Then you’d be sorry. Bar looked great but we couldn’t linger- next time we will.

Now situated inside the lovely Gordon Arms Hotel which feels just like coming home. A coal fire and friendly chat and staff. The food is just as you come to expect from this Restsurant with A varied menu to suit all tastes. Prawn cocktail and lovely Pate to start followed by Steak Rossini and Ribeye steak. This is where it gets seriously good. These were cooked to perfection and not a scrap was left. We even were tempted by the dessert menu after a wee break. Every table was full and food was also being served in the bar. It just made for a great atmosphere for a night out. No need to venture out into the cold as we booked to stay overnight in one if the very comfortable rooms. We both look forward to our next visit.

The Old Bakehouse has made several changes in layout in line with Covid19 regulations. They have been excellently done and their hygiene practices are second to none. No worries going there for a meal just now. The food that we all had was varied from their extensive menus and were all totally delicious. The presentation was good and everything made you also envious of your neighbours plate of food. Next time I know what I will try next but as I loved what I had so will I? Thank you Fiona for a superb evening. Your staff are very knowledgeable and service is excellent. I cannot wait for my next visit which will be very soon.

Pleasant dinner with huge portions of mussels and steak. Excellent nachos and cheesecake. Efficient and pleasant service. Very good experience all together. We’ll be back. Lovely village setting as well.

Visited The Old Bakehouse restaurant the night before a family wedding close by. We visited from California and found the restaurant on Google and it had fantastic reviews. Well we had high expectations and we were completely in awe of the setting, the perfect and attentive service, congratulations to the person that hires and trains your staff, so professional, friendly and fun. The food was nothing short of amazing, and we were delighted with everything. We did have a tough time getting a taxi home, but the staff had every confidence their local guy would come through and the when the manager saw us having a glass of wine in the waiting room, she approached us and told us not to worry, if the taxi runs late, she would give us a run back to our lodging at Newhall Estate. The taxi made an adjustment and picked us up on his way to an airport pick up and topped off, what was a wonderful evening. Many thanks to the chef, owners, staff and the cab driver. Five stars and we will let our friends know to stop by.

This is the second time in a month that we have visited after an absence of about 3 years ! not disappointed the quality of the traditional Sunday roast Scottish Borders beef dinner with all the trimmings is nothing short of amazing, this is back as our 'goto' restaurant.

Fancied something different from the usual Sunday roast we make ourselves so decided to give the TOB a go and decided to have their Sunday roast as a takeaway. I had their Nacho starter and my wife had their Goats Cheers Fritters, both excellent and nachos had plenty of cream guacamole and salsa and the Fritters were gorgeous. We both had the roast beef which came with a Yorkie, carrots , broccoli and lovely crisp roast potatoes all drenched in an amazing gravy. All in all it was outstanding, perfectly cooked beef as tender as could be Congrats.

Well it’s not new it’s 400 years old but new to us and we’ll definitely be back. Had a lovely meal the staff were very attentive, friendly and professional. Place was nice and cosy too. Great menu great food and great surroundings.

Absolutely beautiful meal! We visited tonight to celebrate my wife’s 40th Birthday and were so impressed with the food and service. The quality and taste were superb, the portions were really hearty and the attention to detail was great. We drove 30 miles and it was worth the trip.

We stayed in West Linton for a few days (early December) and booked a meal at the Old Bakehouse to celebrate having read previous reviews on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed, the food is fresh and locally sourced and the service is friendly and welcoming. It was so good that we also booked in for breakfast. I would recommend the game pie, but be warned, you won’t have room for pudding. Don’t rely on going on spec, you are best advised to book, it is popular.

Arrived at an old shop front and quickly realised that the place is like a Tardis! Old shop is a few tables with open fire to wait for your table or takeout – very pleasant ambiance. Tables through in the actual bakehouse. Enjoyable food – pate starter very good, main – a burger was a little on the dry side but still tasty. Will go back and try their steaks.

We live in West Linton. The Old Bakehouse is just on our doorstep. The staff are lovely and Fiona and Steve are so friendly. We have been coming to the Bakehouse for many years, and have always taken it for granted, but tonight (after a normal family weekend) we decided to nip round for dinner and it occurred to me that we absolutely take it for granted. We are so lucky to have this wonderful place to eat so close to us. The food is locally sourced and has never, ever disappointed. Quick point - To be honest, I would recommend everything on the menu.

Visited for Sunday lunch with some friends who live locally. Everything was fantastic from the moment we arrived til the moment we left. A lovely friendly welcome, excellent food and great service. All staff were so friendly. Chicken fajitas were amazing. Wish we lived nearer so we could go back regularly.

We completed a walking holiday by eating here on a Sunday evening. A rather atmospheric old building, with the iron-doored bread ovens built into the wall. More importantly, the food was excellent (whether roast local beef, pasta or a home made burger) and very good value. About 40 minutes from Edinburgh...West Linton is very lucky to have this place!

Visited for our daughters 30th birthday. There was a mix up with our starters which meant we were left wondering where they were. Management owned up straight away and apologised for the mix up and ensured that drinks were on the house. This was not really necessary as the quality of the food is always good but the gesture was very much appreciated.

Was in the area visiting and was recommended The Old Bakehouse. Had a fantastic medal there and came back again a couple of evenings later.

Stopped off for breakfast on Sunday morning after walking in the area. Had the full breakfast which was served hot and was delicious. Service was great too, will definitely be back again.

Had a superb meal here after dropping my daughter off at nearby Bromlee Centre for a weekend camp. Lovely food at very reasonable prices and a great welcoming atmosphere. We arrived over an hour earlier than our booking but fitting us in was no problem- Staff were all so lovely. I would definitely return.

It was our golden wedding and we booked the conservatory for the night. It was cosy and ideal for the occasion. Fiona and her staff (our waitress was Laura) were exceptional both serving food and drinks. The extensive menu can not be faulted, very well presented and of excellent quality. Every guest commented on how good the meal was which is a credit to Fiona a and her chef husband. It also made our night very special.

We dropped in by one Saturday evening, as we were staying at a nearby B&B.; We received a warm welcome on our arrival and were shown to our table in a room which had a quaint and homely atmosphere. The Mexican chicken and standard burgers were superb and were a good sized portion. It is not often you get outstanding service but it is great credit to the owners that they employ well dressed, polite and attentive young staff. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We visited here on Thursday night after a full day of exploring so we were both famished! The restaurant has a lovely cosy atmosphere, especially with it being a quieter mid week night. We both had a burger, which was great because you can add toppings as many toppings as your want (cheese, bacon etc) for free!

We visited this restaurant with friends and had a most wonderful evening. The food was superb, the service was excellent and it was truly great value for money. Highly recommended!

Recently moved to West Linton (April 2019) and have squeezed in at least a monthly visit to this amazing patch of heaven!

Ate here with grandchildren and had a very enjoyable meal. The nachos and the fajitas were well flavoured and more than ample portions. The steak for the fajitas was very tender and there was a full range of additions to use. prices were reasonable and staff were friendly and efficient. Even on a Wednesday evening it was very busy so had a good atmosphere.

Hidden gem short distance from Edinburgh off the A702 in the beautiful village of west Linton. First class service with a welcoming atmosphere. The food is amazing and asking to adjust menu items was no trouble, and was accommodated with a smile! I have eaten here with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free friends and they have all been catered for and felt very well looked after.

Lovely late Sunday lunch, booking and serving staff were exceptional as was the Banoffee Pie. Followed by a gorgeous walk around the village and the river. Not many restaurants in such perfect settings for a post lunch stroll.

Driving home from Edinburgh to Cheshire and in need of a meal after watching (& my daughter running) the Edinburgh marathon, the Old Bakehouse popped up on a search of nearby by places on Google.

We cannot recommend this place enough. The food was exceptional and the staff were so friendly. Wish we lived nearer so we could come here more often. In our top 5 best meals ever!

Saturday evening visit, our group of six travelled especially from Edinburgh to dine and celebrate a birthday. Fantastic establishment in every aspect. Food was exceptionally good, enjoyed the friendly welcome and attentive staff. We all enjoyed our three courses which included asparagus starter and traditional prawn cocktails. For my main, the fillet of beef Rossini was perfectly cooked to my liking. Wine list superb and great value. Definitely looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommend.

We were two couples and all of us thoroughly enjoyed The Old Bakehouse. Although our table was ready when we arrived we had a drink in the cozy bar area before we ate which was lovely. We all had three courses, not because we needed puddings but because we'd all liked our starters and mains so much! The food was very good, decent portions (without spoiling the fun... the Game Pie's worth a special mention here) and the service was very friendly and attentive but relaxed rather than overbearing. Highly recommended!

Our first but certainly not last visit to The Old Bakehouse. We booked late but were easily accommodated, the owner was very welcoming. The restaurant is quirky and interesting and the menu is well thought out. We opted for the Sunday Roast and we were very impressed - it doesn’t matter where you go for a Sunday Roast it is always better at home, The Old Bakehouse is the exception - the Roast borders beef was cooked medium and delicious, veg still had a bite, roast potatoes were crispy but the Yorkshire pudding and gravy were as good as home made, the copious amount of gravy pleased my Yorkshire born wife. The portion was generous but a cheeky rhubarb creme brûlée was squeezed in and very good it was too. The wine list is small and perfectly formed and offers good value for money. Highly recommended.

A delightful and varied menu, well cooked food attractively served, with speedy service and reasonable pricing. Especially noteworthy for the warm, friendly welcome from Fiona’s response to our phone call to the various serving people and the cashier struggling with a slow landline.

I visited a few weeks ago with my partner and had an excellent meal.I had the Ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and my partner had the salmon,she said the best she's had in a long time. Apart from the fantastic food there was a really lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff,particularly Fiona,was very attentive. I'll definitely be returning again soon. Highly recommend this place,well worth a visit.

Our first visit to this lovely place. the service and food were simply outstanding, quality all round! I had duck my wife chicken, both were well presented and delicious, starters were great too! Service was spot on with all the girls and boys very attentive and polite. Overall....10/10! well done. we will be back. x

Great menu choices - combination of the traditional favourites like Sunday roast and fish and chips along with some different options and variety added to spice things up. All delivered to an excellent standard. Hot, delicious food served up quickly and with laid back, friendly service. Hard to beat!

Having visited here many times over years, I re-visited as I wanted to bring my partner here who had never been. Exactly as I remembered, beautiful home cooked food with friendly service by staff and management all at a reasonable price. We actually booked a night in West Linton on a trip to Edinburgh specifically for a meal at the Bakehouse and it did not disappoint.

Really cosy atmosphere - very friendly staff - delicious food - never fails to deliver - can't wait to go back

Until recently I'd never been to the Old Bakehouse but had heard good things. Over the last month I've somehow managed to visit on two separate occasions and left underwhelmed after both. The premises are cosy and have a certain charm but positioning can be everything. Avoid the table under the stairs (a nutcracker) and those next to the ladies and gents toilets. The service is good, very quick. Quick enough in fact to have a three course 'done and dusted' within an hour at breakneck speed and somewhat 'factory-like'. The dishwasher clearly needs a service as our wine glasses still had the remains of their previous users lipstick. Portion sizes vary dramatically. Whilst a member of my party couldn't finish their burger I was left hungry after enchiladas which would have made an acceptable starter. Vegetable side orders are limp, minuscule, unappetising and for some reason coated with cheese. The potatoes wedges are nice however. And to cap the evening off why not a try a nice coffee....."sorry but we only have burnt filter coffee". Very disappointing but with very little local competition, and as it's clearly so busy I don't suppose there's much incentive for it to improve.

A firm favourite of my partner and I! We come here 5/6 times a year. Always made to feel welcome by the owner and waiting staff.

First visit to the Old Bakehouse and I really liked the whole place. It was really warm and cosy, the young staff were polite and knowledgeable and the lady in charge seemed to know everyone.

This place was recommended to me by my b and b, and couldn't have found anything nicer. Staff were brilliant, more than welcoming. Felt comfortable and not on my own after a stressful day it was well needed. The food was also amazing.

Excellent food and service, can highly recommend liver pate and steak rossini. By far the best place to eat in the Biggar area where we live. P.S. would be nice to have Arminac on drinks menu.

Wow... our second visit in less than a week, only moved to outside West Linton a fortnight ago. Can’t believe we discovered The Old Bakehouse, what a wonderful place... Fiona one of the owners has been so welcoming and makes a point of getting to know her customers whether new or returning.. Food has been quite simply delicious on both our visits.. can’t wait to come back for a third time and also looking forward to trying the Sunday breakfast ten out of ten ❤️❤️

I recently celebrated a big birthday at The Bakehouse, along with my partner and 21 friends. I had been somewhat dubious about a celebration so soon after New Year as I worried that many people would be partied out! The lovely Fiona took me by the hand and before I knew it - and with little effort on my part - I found myself enjoying a wonderful and fun-filled evening which, two weeks later, those who attended are still raving about. A special menu was prepared which, one of the guests commented on saying ‘Can I have all of that, they’re all my favourites.’ Fiona has great knowledge of the eating habits of her customers. As usual, Steve and crew turned out amazing food and I have no idea how they can serve up such a range of dishes, served piping hot and with everyone eating simultaneously.

Had a lovely lunch on Sunday at the bakehouse. Food excellent and we were not rushed and we sat and did a crossword while we finished a lovely bottle of red wine which was very reasonable priced at £14.95. Such a lovely place to be on a cold Sunday afternoon. We then went through to the bar and had one more for the road in front of the warm coal fire ....we really didn't want to leave but we will be back !

Stopped in for a late lunch last Sunday after a walk in the Pentlands and opted for the roast beef with all the trimmings. It was served very quickly and was delicious with the best roast potatoes I’ve had in a long time. Won’t hesitate to recommend it to friends.

Have been previously to the old bakehouse over the years and the experience has varied greatly however last night we had an amazing meal largely due to the fact that the restaurant is again in the hands of the owners Fiona and Steve.The young staff were great . My wife and I along with a friend recently went to The Old Bakehouse for Sunday lunch. We were warmly greeted as we entered and shown to our table. The room had a wonderful cosy feel to it against the bitter cold outside. The menu was explained to us by our server but in essence we could order any combination of dishes to suit our liking. We all decided to have Sunday lunch of Scotish beef and veg. The meet joint is cooked to pink but as the ladies preferred it slightly less pink our server was more than happy to have theirs cooked as they like it. Service here is spot on! The lovely veg came in individual ramakin dishes and the roast potatoes are to die for. The overall opinion was that the meal including my Christmas pud desert and the cheese board for my wife was delicious!!! I would recommend this venue to anyone.

This is our nearest local restaurant and back under the direction of Fiona and Steve it is a truly great restaurant. Great food, fabulous service in a lovely atmosphere.

They have just been awarded the top hygiene award for the Borders and they should also be awarded 'best food'. The Christmas dinner was wonderful and the best news is I'm going back twice this week.

On a business trip we passed the small village of West Linton in Scotland. On the GPS we saw a restaurant sign.

From the warm welcome of the log fire to the warm welcome of the owner our visit to TOB was very good. Menu is straight forward with some interesting dishes, half a page of burgers lets you know that this will not be "fine dining" but all the food is well cooked and nicely presented. Service is efficient and front of house staff pleasant and well turned out.

We've eaten here a couple of times before but this is the first time since the change of owner. The atmosphere is great from the moment you walk in the door. From the fire burning invitingly in the bar, to the friendly and helpful staff, lovely surroundings and excellent food, we had a lovely evening celebrating my birthday. The menu is refreshingly varied and everything we chose was perfectly cooked and presented. Will definitely be back.

Our visit was for a family 90th Birthday with a party of a dozen on a busy Saturday evening. From the warm welcome to our ready and waiting table to the happy farewells at the end of the evening, everything was perfect. Despite a busy restaurant, service was attentive and efficient. The food took a little while to arrive as to be expected at a peak time, but when it did it was all cooked and presented beautifully. How do good restaurants manage to deliver perfectly prepared vegetables when so busy and unsure of exact timings; fantastic! A wonderful restaurant with a lovely ambience and historic feel. The deceptively small entrance area leading to the expansive but intimate dining areas is another nice feature. Looking forward to our next visit soon.....

Went with my girlfriend whilst visiting Edinburgh for a long weekend. Really nice pub setting in the village. Food was excellent (very nice confit of duck). The staff were also very friendly and always looking to help. Would definitely recommend eating here if you are around the area.

Lovely meal, been trying to have meal here for age but it was always booked at times we wanted. (Lack of forward planning on my part!) - Ended up going for Sunday Roast Beef, really enjoyed it. Fantastic to see young staff who had obviously been trained as to how to wait on tables.

Had a fantastic late breakfast. Egg Florentine was cooked to perfection and the vegetarian breakfast was very impressive. Can't wait to try the evening menu!!

Really enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Old Bakehouse while travelling South. We all gad the roast beef which was cooked to perfection along with superb vegetables and very friendly and helpful service. Definitely on the list for future visits.

To be honest I’ve always been a little disappointed with restaurants in this neck of the woods BUT only because living near London I am massively spoilt! So we booked this for my mums birthday after a recommended from her neighbour and OH MY we were not disappointed! I can honestly say that every plate was pretty much licked clean! The food was amazing! The staff were super friendly and even came out and sang to her with the cake!

Met up with family, while they were on a trip here. Came across this place while looking for somewhere nearby to eat. We never booked, the restaurant was extremely busy but the staff made time and space for us. Which was greatly appreciated. The food was beautiful. Restaurant was clean. Staff amazing don't know what else I could say. We would highly recommend this place and we would definitely come back.

This is a really nice restaurant with friendly staff providing good service. The food was excellent and we shall return in the near future.

For a few year this restaurant fell into different hands and the quality suffered. Now it is back with the former owners, and the food and service are once more just excellent. Its romantic and quiet enough to have a conversation, and the food is superb.

Very good service and delicious food. Perfectly cooked duck and steak. Managed a creme brulee for dessert. Looking forward to returning in the not too distant future.

My husband and I had a lovely meal on Saturday night. The service as always was fantastic. Fiona ensured she had time for a quick catch up with everyone whilst being run off her feet between kitchen and restaurant. We both had liver pate to start with, which was really delicious! I had fish n chips, fish was very fresh and lovely crispy batter. I had wedges with mine, the other choice being skinny fries. If I'm being honest, I don't really like wedges or skinny fries, so for me handcooked chips would have been my potato of choice! Too full for puddings! Amy looked after us so well and we had the pleasure of meeting Alfie, her beautiful dog as we were walking home!

Delighted to see Fiona and Steve back at The Old Bakehouse. We booked breakfast for 6 and as ever the food, service and friendly welcome ensured we will be back again next weekend! Fiona delivers a fabulous front of house and the kitchen team deliver up great food. Fantastic to hjave our favourite local restaurant back under old management - long may it continue.
