We love this pub and have been on several occasions, the food is delicious and staff are very friendly. But now they only serve pies. As I'm no such a pie lover I'm sad that there is not much choice. Bring back the original menu. Please.

Myself and my friend have been hear on a number of occasions, and on all occasions were amazing and food was really nice when it was the old menu. The old menu had alot of choice. On our last visit there was a new menu which was very small all they serve was pie and chips, which wasn't good. We decided to go somewhere else due to the very limited menu, as myself and my friend aren't a big pie lover. If it stays as the new menu we won't be coming back. Hopefully the pub release that the new menu isn't great and bring back the old menu. Or a much better choice of menu for everyone.

Lovely, quaint little pub situated down a cobbled street in Heaton Norris with a bowling green to the rear. It has its own car park and is dog friendly which, is a massive bonus to me as, I can’t leave my dog alone at home. The bar staff even provided us with a bowl of water for the dog and some treats for him. Me and my boyfriend have visited a few times both alone and with the rest of the family. The pub is separated into 3 separate rooms: the lounge, the old smoking room and the vault. We tend to sit in the lounge area when we are having some food but, if we come down to watch the football and have a drink then we go into the old smoking room although, you are welcome to sit anywhere, that is just our personal preference. With it being a Hydes pub, you will obviously find their own real ales alongside the more popular and well known brands. Prices are on per with other pubs in the local area. Plenty of food choices from small dishes, main meals and desserts. There is also a separate children’s menu. Being a vegetarian I found there were quite a few choices for me. I tend to opt for the cheese and onion pie but, have also tried the Quorn Sunday roast and the Quorn chicken wrap. My boyfriend’s favourite is the hot beef ciabatta which comes with a jug of gravy and a portion of fries. Lovely family pub. Highly recommend!!!

Our first visit here, and our last. After deciding to visit somewhere different for a birthday lunch, and seeing the reviews online,we decided to visit The Nursery for lunch. We ordered food and when it arrived we were told there was no chunky chips, these were substituted with what I can only describe as under cooked McDonalds Fries. It would have been nice to be told this when we ordered! The suet pudding was as hard as rock, the gravy was thick as treacle and extremely lumpy and my wife left most of her pudding and gravy and all the "chips". When I went to pay, I wasn`t asked if the meal was Ok and if everything was fine with it, in fact the barstaff lady was quiet arrogant, won`t be going back!!

This used to be a great place to eat, good quality food at a reasonable price. My husband and I went in on 7th July 2023 for an early dinner, He ordered the hunters chicken and I ordered the cheese and onion pie, both meals come to just shy of £20 and both were cold, the pie was so cold it could have just come out of the fridge. We left both meals on the table, walked out and won't be going back.

We had my dad's wake at the nursery pub as it was my dad's local. The buffet service was excellent and as one of our party was gluten free as in being coeliac, he was accommodated above and beyond with the amount of choices he had. We were very pleased with the service we received at this difficult time and would like to thank the staff for their excellent and helpful service during our recent family upset.

Great local pub. Good beer and friendly service. The bowling green at the back is also a great asset and the outside seating area, a real sun trap in the summer. After a few of changes of management, the place did go down hill for a few years and was starting to resemble a "suburban Wetherspoons". However, the recently appointed landlord, Paul is excellent, the bar staff are very good and always provide great service with a smile and they are an absolute credit to their profession. Paul is also a very good host and good at his job, as are Matt, Sarah and Camellia behind the bar, to name just three. The previous husband and wife in charge with their miserable faces have thankfully now retired and will definitely not be missed. The Nursery is now definitely worth a visit if you have not been for some time. Highly recommended.

Two/ three old guys playing with guitar etc. Used toilet first. It had some new white tiles done recently I thought. No it could be a start. Just one lady behind bar. Big place. Managed to get a car parked outside. It's in the middle of lots of houses. Good had finished at 8pm. We arrive at 20.10pm. Didn't notice anyone eating. We left within minutes. Definitely will not be going again.

Really disappointing Sunday dinner yesterday. I ordered the chicken roast of the day but was over charged as they charged me for the beef dinner which is more. There was no Yorkshire pudding - which is fine if you're going to knock a bit of the price or charge the correct price. But I wasn't - I was overcharged. The roast potatoes were burnt to the point that they were black. I was surprised that the plate was allowed out the kitchen looking like it did. The roast dinner was a butterflied chicken breast - not a roast at all. Lovely proper pub and friendly staff but the food was so disappointing and no one ever asked if it was ok. We also waited over an hour for the food to arrive. Even though I was extremely hungry I didn't enjoy the food.

Too much has happened in 26 years for me to make this a comprehensive review and too many things have happened here.I’ve been going to this pub for 26 years. In that time many changes have occurred But apart from it being me second nearest pub I still enjoy going back there. It’s what you might call a traditional pub with three different rooms. Th ePub uses them for different things as well depending upon whether you like live music or watching sport or taking part in pub darts. All I can say is that they serve good beer and the food is of good quality. The pub also attracts different types on a regular basis so it’s not clique. Unless there is live music you will always be able to find somewhere where it’s quiet to talk.Finding somewhere to sit is not usually a problem either as there is plenty of seating. There is a bowling green out the back which is well used by the local bowling society but even if they are not playing it is a generous area, green and away from traffic and is a most pleasant area to sit out in if the weather is dry and/or warm.

So, a group of 7 of us start here in good humour on a sunny Saturday afternoon on a visit to Stockport to sample the towns fine ale hostelries. A warm welcome we do not find here as the 2 young bar staff look visibly deflated at our presence and pour our drinks with ill grace. As soon as the final drink is poured the barman semi aggressively says "it's a lovely day, surely you want to sit outside?", ok, it seems we are not wanted in here but before we make our exit I suggest some food and choose a fish butty (which turns out to be excellent), the barman asks where I will be sitting, I say "it looks like outside" following his earlier comment, he asks me whereabouts outside, I suggest out the front, he tells me that I can't sit out there, I say "sorry but you will have to help me here, you have suggested I go outside so why don't you tell me where I can sit". He ungraciously pointed me in a direction which led to a lovely garden overlooking a bowling green where we enjoyed good beer and nice food before moving on.

it seems this pub has struggled to impress in the last couple of years. i have endured some terrible food and service but kept going because, well..I like the place. My wife and I called in for lunch, meeting up with friends and I'm pleased to report the whole experience was excellent. The food though simple, was very nicely prepared and presented. Just what we like in a pub and the beers of the highest quality served as a full pint. But the star of the show was the dark-haired waitress...working by herself from what I could see, managed to pull great pints, talk to customers and serve food and all with a smile on her face! She even offered to bring the drinks to our table on what was quite a busy lunchtime. All the customers appreciated the service. i'm looking forward to a return visit..

This pub has gone down hill from it's heyday when it was voted pub of the year. That was several landlords ago. The outside area is littered with plasic and glass bottles, empty glasses, broken umbrellas, fag ends and other rubbish, so what was a pleasant area to sit and have a drink whilst watching the bowls is now scruffy and unkempt. This used to be a busy pub renowned for it's food, but not any more, always seems empty with no atmosphere. I have given one star for the excellent beers on offer. Used to be a hidden gem. Shame that a recent change in management has ruined it. Always had live music at weekends but during the week it was a great place to have a quiet drink with friends. Absence of a manager during the week seems to have given the staff freedom to turn the music up and have their own disco without any regard for customers. I couldn't believe that on my most recent visit of the five customers in the lounge, 3 asked for the music to be turned down and were flatly ignored. Four of the five then left which makes me think it's just a ploy to get rid of customers so the staff can have an easy time. Such a shame.. it used to be great.

Having recently been refurbished we thought we'd give the Nursery another try and are now sorry we did! Whilst getting served at the bar for drinks a rude man (presumably the landlord) tapped me on the shoulder and told me 'no children in this bar, you have to use the room at the front only!' There was no politeness or tact used, just a rude delivery with a stern look. Now I wouldn't mind, but nowhere does it say this, and previously children were allowed in this room, plus it was a week day lunchtime not in the evening which I could have understood!Needless to say we drunk up and left rather than staying for lunch which had been our original intention. I find it hard to believe how a publican can have so little people skills and such silly rules in this day and age. This is a local pub serving it's local community and as such should be welcoming and making sure people have a great experience so they will return.
