Popped in on Wednesday evening for a mid week carvery, very good value for money at only £5.95. Very friendly couple running the pub, shame we are not local as we would come in every week. If we are in the area again we will definitely be popping in.

Moved to the area last year and only just found this gem! Myself and my partner went in after finding the pub on google, walked in not sure what to expect as we didn't really know anyone. Such a positive experience. The owners are so friendly and welcoming. All the locals were chatty and made it such a great experience. The owners also have two adorable dogs that were so fussy and sweet. Been in a few times now for a few pints and games of pool and absolutely love it. Would definitely recommend! Dog friendly, good prices and always made to feel welcome! Will definitely be coming in more often!

Lovely Carvery had. Choice of 4 meats and 2 gravies. All veg was fresh, nothing frozen. Great friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. The place has changed for the better since the new landlords have taken over. Highly recommend.

We took a friend of ours for a meal 14/5/2016 as we had heard good reports well what a disappointment the fish was about the size of the bottom of a pint glass, the waitress had her hair which was long dangling into the food when serving, there were ants running all over the table, seating and windowsills, when we informed the staff the attitude was well tough and could not be bothered,I thought at least glin would have approached us to at least apologise but he was nowhere to be seen,my opinion is to give this place a wide berth for food at least.

Since I wrote my first review, I heard a landlord from years ago Glyn S is back. What an excellent deal this was - our party of seven members of my family really enjoyed the food and service. Most of us had the 3 courses for £12.95 deal, although it is possible to spend as little as £6.95 for just the carvery.I ordered duck pate with onion chutney, melba toasts and salad - a very generous portion of pate. The carvery consisted of turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing balls, Yorkshire pudding, mash, roast potatoes, parsnips, peas, carrots, cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower cheese and gravy with all the traditional sauces. Beef and gammon were also available as an alternative. This was all nicely cooked and largely fresh.True, the Xmas pudding may have been bought in, but this was excellent at only £3.It is pleasing that this pub has remained open over the years. I do hope the people of Deepcar will do their best to try it.

Well worth the visit, a typical friendly local but with the addition of excellent food. The food is a good home cooked range and the menu in the week is served til 8pm. Have been a few times weekday and every time was a winner with the food cooked consistantly good and would certainly recommend.Although so far have not had the opportunity for Sunday Carvery enough people have commented again on the consistant quality of the food and certainly looking forward to trying.Overall this is a good local pub with friendly staff and an excellent standard of food, it hasn't got a massive menu but but what it does have it does well and that's more important. Give it a try its well worth the Visit.

The Pen Nook, (ex ‘The Nook’) DeepcarAround the ‘Millennium’ this Pub was well known for it’s excellent ‘sizzlers’ menu – mixed grills, steaks, etc, served on a very hot skillet.. . . . but then sadly, the Landlord moved on.Over the past 13 years there have been many attempts to match its previous good reputation, but alas, a steady decline in fortune, and customers, became the norm. Locals expected the building to metamorphose into yet another Tesco Local, but even that was a non starter.Just as hopes were fading – the original Landlord returned – after 13 years – GREAT JOY !Sure enough, even before the exterior was fully re-vamped, the new Food Menu was on offer. Master Chef it is not – but it is high quality, without the fancy art on a plate.Favourites like the sizzlers (around £6), are back, alongside more adventurous offerings. This Landlord knows what folk want – High quality locally sourced joints of meat; freshly cooked Veg – and YES – home cooked Yorkshire Puds from scratch. . . . No Aunt Bessie’s here. . . . Sunday Carvery Lunch at £6.95 (pensioners £4.95) was top notch, with melt in the mouth Beef or Turkey or Pork. A nice touch was a choice from two joints of Beef – one cooked medium rare – the other one cooked well done. You don’t get that sort of choice at many places. Granted, sweets are bought in – but at £2.50 that’s good value. – and you have the choice of Custard, or Cream or Ice cream on your Chocolate Fudge Cake. The team are keen to please, and service is swift and efficient, and hopefully will become more polished in the weeks ahead. The main room is not large – so booking might be a good idea. One tip – the sachets of sauces need scissors or something to get into them.IMW

a nice looking pub, clean inside but with just no atmosphere. We've been in 3 times now but it never seems to be busy. They only offer a limited range of beer with no real ales on draft. We'll be sticking to the other local pubs unless the beer offer improves.

This pub has recently started offering a Wednesday and Sunday carvery as well as 'sizzler' style steaks and a small selection of classic pub meals most weekday lunchtimes and evenings. We visited this pub as an end of school year treat for my nephew, his family and my parents.I haven't visited this place for several years. The most recent owners have given it a makeover. The large airy lounge with comfortable chairs and large tables was a lovely place to have an impromptu Friday evening meal within walking distance of Deepcar's main housing estate.Four of us ordered mixed grill (£7.95). This was served on a hot iron skillet using meat from the local butcher's. This consisted of steak, lamb chop, pork chop, gammon and sausage served with a whole cooked tomato. A simple touch which really made the meals stand out was the use of home made fresh chips, an increasing rarity nowadays. The starters and desserts looked tempting but we were all too full. Other choices included fresh fish and chips, Hunter's chicken and lasagne. There is even a selection of meals priced at 2 for £10 We hope to visit again later this month.

Waiter gave us a menu and explained the process for ordering etc very promptly. Young lady behind the coffee bar took my order nicely and asked me to wait for the coffee for me to take to our table. No problem with that. However, whilst waiting, the initial girl and the other girl barista chatted very loudly, no rush to make my drinks. They were discussing a story between them and we're swearing f***ING loudly and persistently in front of me and other customers . Unaware this is not a great experience.

We heard that the Angel Inn had re-opened under new management, and that the pub had been given a make-over and were now doing really good food - so we thought we would go and check it out! We went along mid-afternoon on Thursday 25th January, 2024, the place is very clean, warm and welcoming, a nice, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Louise the manager, who we took-to immediately, is so enthusiastic and passionate about running a good pub. They have a wide range of drinks and the menu although limited at present, is set to be extended, and they do Sunday lunch. The chef, an ex-army chef but with lots of civilian experience in restaurants too, is also passionate about providing great, home-made food. We very much liked the look of things, so we booked for Sunday lunch - we went along on Sunday 28th January - the food did not disappoint! We had a choice of beef, pork or chicken, or we could have some of each. The plate came out with the meat, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, along with it came a large dish of vegetable and a gravy boat. As promised, everything was home-made, cooked from scratch and as we expected, totally delicious! Then came dessert, we all had treacle sponge with custard, but there was a choice of jam sponge, apple crumble or cheese-cake, - home made, and it too was delicious!, and all at a reasonable price - well worth it! We will be back - but we are also going to go along mid-week and check out their menu offers - they are going to be getting wine and drinks offers too - what more could you want! 👍😁.
