The New Taj Balti House in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Very Dissapointed , poor hygiene, tasteless just order for take out the vegetable mix curry and got a red tomato sauce dish with potatoes nothing like a veggie curry , also ordered the biryani king prawn, rice was dried left over type of rice and that was definitely not king prawns . Samosas and nan quiet taste less .Would not recommend (king prawns photo attached )

Very nice food On time delivery Good price The only downside was on the mixed meat tandoori the chicken was plentiful but lacking on the lamb sheesh? ( the more expensive meat)

A friendly welcome, ordered our drinks & given time to peruse the menu. From order, to plate & to the table seemed no time at all. We could not fault our choices, with each course full of flavours. What an amazing meal & evening we had. Thanks again to the team of chefs & waiting staff who took care of us the evening.

Placed an order, was quick and friendly staff. They did give me a korma rather than a madras, without hesitation they arranged to bring me a new madras with rice, literally was with me in under 10 minutes and they dropped it off. To top it off, food was lovely! Recommend 😌

1st time using the Taj and was very happy. The meal was delivered nice and hot and the food was delicious. My only criticism is it's a bit pricey, but I'd still order here again 👌

Came in this evening for valentine’s and WOW we really couldn’t fault any of it. Thank you for a great meal and service and atmosphere, And our chocolate hearts . 10/10 . See you again soon.

I picked up takeaway from here while on holiday. The food was lovely, especially the peshwari naan bread. The restaurant was still busy at 9:30pm! The staff were extremely friendly holding the door open for me to leave. Overall a great Indian.

Went here as recommended by a local couple… well what can I say the service was none existent the food was not good. Meat samosas no meat?? My tandoori mix grill came out cold and tasteless when I asked the manager he said they cooked it that day when I ask if it was cooked to order he said it was cooked that day?? My husband’s biriyani was cold and tasteless the rice was hard. We ordered popadums were nice but the dips were not good and they charged for them?? I asked to see the owner who was in the kitchen he never appeared I will never go there again

What a great Indian restaurant. You can bring your own drinks with no corkage charge and only soft drinks for sale in the restaurant, it takes away the drunken clients that only want to continue drinking after hours. There were several families with small children in when we visited and it made it a delightful place to have our evening meal. The food was first class and the service excellent. We are definitely going back soon.

This was our first time ordering here. Very helpful staff, talking us through the curries we ordered and helpfully suggesting a very tasty starter for us. We can't wait until we are back in St Austell again to order.

Varied menu with standard dishes plus some specials I've not come across before and are really tasty. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. Great restaurant.

This is not curry. I ordered chicken tikka masala and the sauce was chopped tomatoes with sugar. My husband ordered lamb rogan josh and it was swimming in chopped tomato sauce. Absolutely awful. The food had no curry spices or flavour. What a disappointment.

So far almost nothing but good things to say about this place. Excellent, tasty food, speedy delivery, reasonable delivery prices, easy to order from web site.

Horrible experience. Horrible taste. No taste in bhindi masala and chicken Tikka masala was bland and in RED gravy with full color. Money wasted. I won't recommend ordering food from this restaurant!

Best part of this meal was throwing it away! Worst Indian we have ever experienced I'm afraid. The chicken tikka main was dry and stale with one out of date lettuce leaf and the rest of the food was exceptionally poor. Could not return as requested as friends collected for us as we've been unwell and could not have faced anymore anyway! £41 for the pleasure!

It is usually excellent with outstanding authentic Indian cuisine but the last time I ordered I felt let down it fell far short of its usual high standard. The chicken in my dish was stale and old although it was not off. I almost feel like asking for a refund I hope normal service has resumed.

Can’t fault the service Food was absolutely fantastic but we didn’t feel welcome ! We were told we had a 1 3/4 hour slot which was fine . We barely sat down and were asked if we wanted to order drinks and pappadoms - great . Starters came out quickly , dinner straight after - my friend was eating and the guy almost took her plate away at one point ! Then the dessert menu was on the table which we declined as we hadn’t had time to digest our dinner - straight away he bought the bill and was standing there with the machine - all this in an hour !! We sat finishing our drink but felt like we needed to be out the door so despite there being plenty of empty tables we left - we technically still had 25 minutes and had indigestion. . Again , lovely food , lovely waiters but the guy with glasses - a little bit too efficient !

We enjoyed our takeaway and my partner is hard to please! Food was hot, delivery was on time. We'll definitely order again. Just one small thing, the garlic naan - garlic taste as a bit too subtle.

Very friendly staff. Very good food. No beer is served, but you can grab one from the pub opposite and drink it in the restaurant.

I will admit, I don't like curry as much as any other takeaway. But these guys do it the best. Their curries are always flavourful, rich, and although it isn't the best value, it's definitely worth the price. When it's busy, its quite loud, but the aesthetic is beautiful, and quite frankly it's a nice place to eat in, despite the fact I usually have a takeout. It also isn't the fastest, but again, the meal quality makes up for it. The meal's quality is actually almost heavenly, to be honest, and that isn't even exaggeration. In conclusion, go here. Now.

Impromptu date night, no reservation - just turned up. We’ve ordered takeaway from The New Taj before but it’s a much better experience dining in. The foods great, service is amazing and the choice of dishes is brilliant. We will continue to order takeaways from here but if we get the chance to dine in again we will! Thank you.

Worst chicken tikka was swimming what looks like heinz soup,no taste at all,nanns could of tipped into a pan and fried an egg,and some of it was raw! Never again £60 wasted and a 11th birthday treat ruined.

Moved to st Austell from Leicester and was worried about getting a good curry. This place is a little gem, brilliant. We have ordered twice and both times the food has been outstanding.👍

I can’t express how much I love this place. I’ve been eating here since I was 16 years old ( I’m now 24) and I’d never go anywhere else. Very friendly staff, great prices and fast preparation. 10-15 minutes from ordering over the phone today. The standard has never dropped over the countless meals I’ve had here. I’m eating my lamb korma right now and had to leave a review because I’m enjoying EVERY SINGLE BITE

Good food great atmosphere and you can bring your own drink whats not to love

Such a shame, we've been ordering every two weeks for around 3 years. Last couple of times have been way below the normal standard. I always pre order at around 6pm for 8pm and last couple of times has been close to 9pm. Chewy fatty bits of lamb, and not much of it. It's like there's a new chef. I don't mind paying £12 for a dish if it's nice. But after a couple of bad ones in a row u feel your getting slightly ripped off. Our last takeaway was £50 and was not enjoyable

Had a couple from here but unfortunately they are not authentic enough last curry was like the spices had been tipped from a Swartz container.

Great food and service. Coming from birmingham our curry standards are high. The Taj is by far the best in the area.

We had a meal here tonight with my family. My brother had the 'nicest vindaloo ever ' and my Madras was so nice.Service was exceptional. The maitre'd explained every and checked our spice tolerance even asking the chef to tone down spicing of one meal. I am so impressed and will return. Bringing your own bottle is amazing to too.

Always great food here, good selection of traditional and special dishes, prices are on the rise but comparable to everyone else. They don’t serve alcohol but corkage is free.

Ordered food and paid straight away. I was told approximately 40 mins waiting time. No worries, went over the road for a quick pint. On returning I waited another 20 mins and then was asked to pay again 😄 I told the young guy I had paid but he didn't believe me. Anyway, the guy I did pay came out of the kitchen and confirmed I'd paid. Chicken Balti should NOT BE LIKE THAT AT ALL. SALAD FOR THE STARTER WAS CHEAP LETTUCE, NO TOMATO OR CUCUMBER. POPPADOMS WERE BURNT. WOW,After working in a popular indian takeaway myself for 5 years, I can tell you I won't be returning or recommending. Bunch of dirty cowboys that need a decent chef and management. 0 stars from me.

Avoid it if you can... Over rated, disappointing and with cheap low quality food in small servings but still wearing big price tags. Crowded, hot and noisy are three other words that spring to mind. Not going back.

First thing is Don’t believe the positive reviews here !! This food here is not authentic Indian or I can say this way only the name of dishes here are authentic Indian. We ordered Butter Chicken and it was no where near to Indian Taste , Instead of having it as a curry you can have butter chicken as Dessert. Butter chicken is of complete Sugar . And Saag Paneer is another dish with no taste in it .we are not satisfied with this food and left unhappy. This is honest review if you want to know.

Highly recommend tawa dishes, especially with coconut rice. Mango chutney is a bit too hot oily. Lime chutney is awesome

Really disappointed. To be honest have had food here before and it wasn't great. The chicken tikka we ordered turned out to be chicken korma. The poppadoms were so burned and brown they were inedible. The aubergine side dish was so small it didn't fill 1/2 the tray and wasn't enough to share. We won't be getting food here again.

Food was ready on arrival, delicious and fresh. This was our first visit. We used to go to another local Indian but the service there went really downhill. So glad we have found somewhere new . We loved it and will definitely be back again. Thank you

Usually use The Gurka for our Indian takeaways, however after a few disappointing meals we decided a change was needed. Very happy with our choice, ordered over the phone for a collection. Arrived, was greeted warmly and attentively, food was ready when they said it would be. Food was piping hot even after a short walk home in the cold. Food was also lovely! Also very happy with the idea of a loyalty card. Will be returning.

Took a trip to Cornwall with the family so we decided to visit the local Indian restaurant for dinner, on our last night. Sadly, the food was a major let down. We asked the waiter if he was able to ask the chef to add more spices to our dishes, however most of the dishes were still bland. We all left disappointed as no one even asked how the food was and we had to wait ages to get someone's attention for the bill! Thumbs down from us!

I eat a lot of curry and can honestly say that I've just eaten one of my favourites ever. Thanks Taj, absolutely delicious.

Bhuna.. wetter than a monsoon on the equator, not good for a dry curry. Yes bhuna is dry. And let's hope there is not a cumin shortage, they will go out of business and where is the dhunya? Also contained enough onions to be a dopiaza. Chipatti are the most reasonably priced to date, but £1.50 for a bit of flour and water is still a stretch. Would be 2 stars compared to Mumtaz,or Lahore. Where a curry costs the same comes with 3 chipatti and no weird salad with pea's. Also it's spelled pakora, not pakura.

We had a wonderful time at the New Taj - the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious (with very generous portions). You can bring your own alcohol as they don't serve alcohol but they do serve soft drinks. We had a fabulous time and would 100% recommend!

What a horrible food they serve absolutely ridiculous. Curries are no where near to be a curry I don't know where have they been trained .everything was so sweet and on top of that ripping people off .the bill was ridiculous. I hope no body eles goes there .being only Bangladeshi resturent in the area they should at least cook proper food. We didn't eat our food and send everything back and on top on that had pay the bill .stay away from these people.

Dont judge a book by its cover! Not the most enticing place to look at from the outside. But inside it's clean and the food is good. Some of the dishes are a little expensive, more than London prices in some cases, but tasty nonetheless.

On holiday, this place was recommended by a barman. It might not look much from the outside, but food was superb, very friendly staff, happy to advise on meal choices based upon your preferences. One thing to note, it has no alcohol licence, we brought from the pub across the road (Duke of Cornwall). Which is also a great pub Well worth a visit👍

ordered takeaway in oct 2020, food was cold, when i rang they said because of lockdown they were very busy, and next time they would throw in a couple of popadums to say sorry , cold food cost over £30, will never return, not worth one star

Bought a takeaway from here. It has to be the worst food I have ever had.😡 This doesn’t even deserve one star. Food colour is not normal and very bland. No flavour Food is over priced £9.95 for a chicken tikka What a waste of money. Management Has changed hands. When I collected our takeaway nearly all employees were on there’s phones and cigarette packets and keys and lighters on the tables. £21.75 for 3 dishes absolutely disgusting. I could get fish and chips from white river fish bar for 2 nights for what this cost. I will not be returning!!!!!
