The New Majestic in Tendring

We had a mini break in Clacton on Sea and were determined to have fish and chips whilst we were here. We selected the Majestic as it had a seafront location and we checked with the owner that the chips were cooked in vegetable oil. Also the fact that it looked like a proper fish and chip shop impressed us. We were however very disappointed with the food as the chips were lukewarm and greasy and the fish batter was not crispy. There were very few customers despite us eating at prime lunchtime and the food was not freshly cooked. We would not recommend this restaurant.

We went to this restaurant at 4.30 for an early dinner - we were turned away by a member of staff leaving. ‘We are closed, there might be a few sausages and chips left over to take away’. What fish and chip shop closes at 4.30?? A shop on a busy road by the beach and pier. Lucky escape by looking at the other reviews

We were in Clacton for the day and got our lunch from here today. Great fish and chips, quick service and friendly faces! The fish was amazing, not too greasy, and the chips were cooked to perfection. Thank you.

Very rude staff, if you don't like what u doing just quit the job...Definitely not coming back! Fish was OK, chips.... Discussed.. Girls and some gents behind the shelf are deaf.I had to repeat myself 4times... There are better places to eat and spend your 10pounds..

The service was AWFUL , young girls from the till need to learn some basic MANNERS. The man who frying fish was also terrible, he start shouting with no reason. Next time i will punch him to his ugly face definitely. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!P. S fish and chips was soaked in stinky oil.

Visited today, normally use restaurant but sadly because of some virus going round the world they were only doing takeaway. We had cod and chips and the regular portion was still massive. Sat in the gardens opposite in the sunshine enjoying freshly cooked fish and chips. We will be back next time we are in Clacton

over £100 for sasuage and batter with chips, just buy it from the chip shop and eat it out of the paper, if you sit down on the chairs, they charge you £60 just for the privilege!!!!! I asked the lady why it was so expensive, and she snapped at me that she didint make up the prices, the manager did, when i asked to speak to the manager i was told she was unavailable, and i had to pay cash also. this place is a total rip off, i worked out that for us all to eat from the chip counter it would have cost £40 maximum, so i had been charged £60 for service, im in the wrong job!!!!!

Was offered an undercooked piece of fish, when I asked for another piece it was given the same piece back after being refried for 5 minutes. When I refused this I was met with even more attitude and being sworn at as I left. Vile food and vile customer service bd to top it off it was £9 for the pleasure of jnediable food and the f word

recommended by a local. were not disappointed. nicely set out restaurant. only drawback is that it has little natural light as it is in a basement. plates need to be bigger to accommodate size of fish portion chips were excellent. i don't like chips very much but almost finished my portion. no smell of old fat that you get in some fish places.

Family had a meal in restaurant , 3 had cod and we all came down with food poisoning. My mum is nearly 80 and had severe food poisoning. Called them to notify them and they were so dismissive and rude and put the phone down on me! So avoid unless you want to be ill!!

Me and the family enjoyed a fantastic meal here. Lovely and fresh, polite and friendly staff. Highly recommended, may well be our new "go to" when in the area well done you guys.

Very nice fish and chips hot and fresh and no waiting girls who served were nice and welcoming.if your in Clayton it’s well wort a visit you won’t get better

Been to Clacton so many times, no idea how long this place has been here, we never tried it so today gave it a go and was thoroughly impressed. Portions were big (albeit slightly pricier) and the food was delicious. Everything cooked beautifully. Will deffo return!

Come here with my boys and hubby every year on our annual caravan holiday This place never disappoints us. After a fun day on the fair and pondering the beach we were all so hungry and this really hit the spot! The fish is greasy but just the right amount and the chips they’re just The service is so fast had our food within 20-30 minutes of entering. Despite the plainness of the restaurant it really reminds my hubby of his ex wife’s house (she died) giving him comfort. Food is almost perfect and the medium haddock (mine and my hubbys) was perfection. My boys loved their chicken nuggets too! I’d really recommend this place! My only isssue was the expense of the drinks £2.50 each for a coca cola9.5/10

We visit here every year on our annual family day out to clacton sea front for dinner, we were looking to find a different place to eat as the last few years haven’t been good at all, but we saw it had new owners so gave it another go. It was so much more than we expected the staff were incredibly friendly and so lovely especially our waitress Lucy, we weren’t rushed at all even though the shop had basically shut but they still let us in without a booking, 24 people! The food was lovely, reasonably priced and high quality. Thanks for making our clacton trip lovely, can’t wait for next year.

I went there for lunch on 2 July. Having had a good experience there in 2017 I was looking forward to my Cod and Chips. Imagine my disappointment then, when my meal arrived; the batter and chips both looked (and tasted) quite underdone and I wish I regret not complaining about this at the time. To cap it all, when the time came to pay, the young waitress (who was friendly and helpful) explained that the restaurant no longer accepted card payments! When I returned with some cash and queried the reason for this, the waitress explained that the they were under new management. I can only say that I hope matters improve quickly; when I returned to Clacton a few weeks later I went elsewhere.

One of our family favourites. Clacton-on-Sea always means lunch here. They never disappoint. Fish is always fresh, food is always piping hot, service is always with a smile.

Absolutely amazing food and service was excellent the waitresses care over to check that we were ok once he food arrived and the food was delicious - worth the price! Great service from the staff!

I stopped here for lunch whilst in Clacton the fish and chips I had here were poor the fish batter was thick and the chips were tasted old maybe it was due to the oil not being changed as often as it should be but still poor though

Out with my husband Friday and really fancied fish and chips so we ventured downstairs into the restaurant. We could easily have been put off by the fact that it was empty and the decor is a bit twee! Glad we weren’t as the fish was beautifully cooked and the chips were lovely and hot. The young waitress was lovely as well. All in all well worth the money. Moral of the story - don’t be fooled by appearances.

Me and my partner decided we fancied fish and chips so thought we go here ... big mistake !!! we wished we walked out, but we just didn't, think being hot just cba to find another place to eat. something nasty on Toilet floor, ,staff going into toilets with aprons on, found hair in my food, chips soggy/greasy, savloy im not even sure it was and fish wasn't great either !! sauces rubbish quality , over priced !! (diet coke, tap water, large cod chips & savloy chips £20 !!!)

it is compulsary to have fish and chips on the beach whilst at the seaside so we decided to purchase ours here. we were reluctant as we could not find a food hygiene rating inside or out but as it was an open kitchen we proceeded anyway. the service was not great with a very misearble staff member serving us who looked like he would rather be on the pier. the prices were very high but it was a treat so hey hey.... the chips were undercooked and were served in a very flimsy cardboard container making them difficult to eat. regardless a treat at the beach but a lesson learnt.

Dingy restaurant. Overpriced. Unhelpful, untrained staff. Dry chips. All in all, left much to be desired.

Ordered large haddock and medium cod and chips. Fish cooked beautifully and batter yummy. Chips nicely done to. Liked the addition of a little salad on the side. Able to have takeout or there is a restaurant area downstairs too. Helpful staff. Would return.

Clacton has (or had two of the top fish and chips restaurants around).

Visited with my wife and ordered cod and chips twice. Fish contained a lot of bones. Complained to staff who replaced meals, without problem. Enjoyed our second meals, without bones, which was 'spot on'. Expensive though, meal, drinks and roll/butter came to £26 (80p for each roll). There are cheaper and similar fish and chips, a short walk away, in the town. My dad always used to say 'don't pay sea front prices, son! Better value down the back streets'. Should have took his advice!

Having just arrived and hungry,,, came to get fish and chips, and i must say, it was wonderful, fresh cooked, and soo yummy,, They have seating inside, we sat outside as had a dog with us,,,Just one moan,, found the people at counter slightly unfriendly and un smiling,, but hey,, i onLy want to eat the food, which was SMASHING,

Ordered 2 fish and chips with curry sauce. Meal came to £24. The fish was soggy, full of bones, and the chips were hard. Told them how displeased we were and no one said anything only 'Are you ready to pay the bill?'.

Once again lovely fresh food, lovely staff, lady who serves is really friendly, we visit Clacton regularly and have never been disappointed with the food, great too for us in the warm weather, as has seats outside we can sit with our dog, highly recommend, thanks Cathy, Phil and pixie dog

I visited The New Majestic fish and chip shop whilst on a weeks holiday to The Orchards Holiday Park in St Osyths. After having a lovely few days break in St Osyths I took my family into Clacton for lunch.

We had an impromptu day out to Clacton on a Sunday! We fancied fish and chips with somewhere inside to eat. We were seated quickly, and kids were served their drinks quickly as were we.

Visited today sat outside with dog, lovely staff food freshly prepared to order, massive portions, tables wiped after use, lovely lady who is always serving is always chatty, can't fault this place best fish and chips for miles 😀

Went Wednesday after a show with family ,well what a lovely air conditioned restaurant downstairs ,very clean the staff well...

La pregunta no es un dafty- los peces aquí es tan fresco como un daisy. Ahora sé Clacton es, por así decirlo, en el mar, pero aún así, delicioso pescado de degustación que sabía si había llegado directamente desde el mar a la placa. Buenas porciones también, mi pareja quería un pequeño abadejo, pero les gustaría salir así ella consiguió tamaño pero cobran por pequeño. Eso es una forma mucho mejor de tratar con ese tipo de situación que diciendo 'está fuera del menú. El servicio era fantástico, amable y atento. . .

Visiting Clacton for the first time , we were looking for somewhere to eat and noticed a queue for the takeaway service and decided to eat in the restaurant.we were shown to a table and allowed plenty of time to decide on what we wanted , my wife went for the rock eel and i decided on the large haddock , we had to wait a while as it would be cooked to order (that's fine with us) . When the food was brought to the table both our plates were full and the meal was very good. all in all the food and service was excellent.

Nice food. Perfect for the typical seaside chip eater. However, despite not really been that busy, I/we felt quite rushed and not given enough time to fully make our minds up. I suggested a sausage but before my wife could agree or disagree it was already billed on the till. The lady at the till looked like she had been forced to work and it was clearly a burden to serve us.

Been here a few times lovely food great portions, friendly lady who served us will definitely be going there again

Come to clacton for a few days and on our first day arrived at tea time.Unpacked and decided to look for somewhere for a bit to eat.Found this little gem with a large queue outside the take away entrance which is always a good sign.We decided to eat in. Very clean eatting area, ladies serving all lovely.We both had double savaloys and chips , mushy peas, curry sauce and a round of bread and butter each ( which is always a must).Arrived really quick, even though busy, ample of chips and really hot.It was really yummy and really reasonably. we will go back before we go home. There were 5 in the party 1 being a child. The food was nice shame I couldn't say the same for the attitude of the staff & owner. I requested we move tables as we were under the air conditioning and it being cold to be told we could'nt move to the back of the restaurant as they were closing it off. For the next party of 8 to be taken to this part of the restaurant. As soon as someone finished their plate was being removed despite everyone else still eating, felt rushed, they started clearing the table prior to us finishing & then presented us with the bill. Spoke to the manager who's attitude was rude & disgusting. Would not recommend this fish & chip restaurant unless you want rude service & felt that your custom was not wanted. Absolutely disgusting & needs reporting.

we go here every time we go on holiday. lovely fresh, tasty food. good prices, and even our fussy kids enjoy the food. always a must on our holidays.

We ordered 2 x cod chips it tasted awful and 2x battered sausage and chips tasted all like lemon never will we eat there again .

Found this lovely little place just on the seafont near the pier,seated straight away and had a nice cup of tea while waiting for our meal,our fish was perfectly cooked not overly oily was absolutely amazing, and chips where golden fluffy,and comes with a side salad, and there nice big portions, one bowl of mushy peas is enough for two people , The staff are Really friendly and couldn't do enough for you, had a great conversation with the waitresses.Will be back 10++

Was very busy but expected on a hot day , was dealt with quickly and politely, I'd go back , wasn't an awful lot of searing outside but guess they are restricted by space

If you're looking for great tasting Fish & Chips in Clacton-on-sea then this is the place, look no further. I ate the Large cod and chips and i couldn't get enough , it was one of the best tasting fish & chips i'd had in a while, fish was perfectly cooked not overly oily and chips where golden fluffy, staff are really friendly and happy to help answer any questions or even make a suggestion, i highly recommend this lovely establishment.

When we entered we were shown straight to a table and asked what we wanted to drink while we sorted out our order. Tea was order of the day as it was cold outside. This was ruined for me as they gave us UHT milk, proper milk would have made such a difference. The fish and chips were excellent, when two of us wanted to order mushy peas they said that just one would be adequate as they came as a bowlful. There was an excellent side salad as well. If it wasn't for the tea we would have given them five stars.

Don't be put off by the outside..the food was brilliant, service very friendly and prices good. Will definitely be back, thankyou

Great little restaurant if you want fish and chips served by friendly staff, and its not greasy either, which i like.If you eat in the restaurant its a shame its downstairs, so no sea view, but the staff, food and price all make up for it, and we now go back when in Clacton.

This place is good for take away and has a restaurant as well. The batter on fish is light and above all edible. Chips not too greasy and nice people serving.

The New Majestic fish restaurant is nestled next to PrezzoWe had a lunchtime visit for Fish & chips and sat outside, just a few tables but nice to people watch the visitors passing by along the main road near to the pier.The fish & chips were freshly prepared whilst we waited and the batter on the fish was absolutely perfect. Plenty of indoor seating but access is down several steps.

Recently visited as a small family group. Service was fantastic and food portions and quality great. Would most definitely recommend for a good value traditional fish and chip meal.

2nd visit this year , have eaten inside and takeout both very good . Food is cooked to order. Can get busy at times but worth the wait

We were visiting Clacton on Sea and decided to buy some chips to eat on the seafront. The chips were really tasty. My only 'criticism' if it can even be called that is that they could have been a little bit crispier, but that's a personal thing. They did give me a lot of crispy 'scraps' with the portion though so that was good. Would definitely go again when in Clacton.

Tried the new Majestic fish & Chips Resturant for the first time today. Food came to the table in short order and was very nice. Lots of waiters and waitresses so service is fast and very pleasant. 10/10 from me.

Found this restaurant while walking along the road. Lovely and clean, tables cleared and cleaned quickly. Nicely cooked fish and chips served by friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely visit again if in Clacton.

Eight of us had evening meal here. Chips were lovely. Fish cooked just right. Quick and friendly service. Request for more ketchup was dealt with immediately. Curry sauce also lovely. Could do with air conditioning downstairs as it was very warm. Would certainly recommend this for food and service

After a long day with two kids and grandparents. We saw this along the beach front and thought great we will have a look, you go down a flight of stairs to get into it but that is fine if you have a pram run down to ask for help they are more then welcome to help. With my two year wanting food they were very quick to come,they took his order very quick while we decided what we wanted. The food was very good hardly an oil on the fish and chips which was brilliant. Mushy peas are a large portion me and my dad had a lot between us.Highly recommend the staff are brilliant at least the boss says thank you to her staff when they were busy. (Very unusual to hear from a boss).

Location is perfect, next door to Wetherspoons on the front. Very busy and fresh fish and chips done to order.

We visited today, at about 4:30. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we were made to feel very welcome. The staff could not have been friendlier! We ordered our food (large haddock, large cod both with chips and salad garnish) and were told there would be a five minute wait whilst the fish was cooked. When our food arrived we were asked if we needed anything else.The chips LOOKED anaemic...but tasted great! The fish had the lightest batter I've ever tasted.I've seen a couple of negative posts on here today, but they are not at all reflective of our experience, which really could not have been better.Probably not the cheapest in Clacton...but I challenge you to find better food!

We rocked up on a Monday lunchtime with 11 of us and the staff couldn't of been more friendly.The children's meal was superb value and the food for us all was amazing - best scampi I have had for ages.If we come back to Clacton, we will be back!

Lovely people - good banter and great value food.Fish beautifully cooked, and very good chips. Recommend you buy your lunch or dinner here, then head over to the lovely seafront gardens opposite to eat it. Bloody lovely!

We hebben hier lekkere fish en chips gegeten. Schoon restaurant, je zit wel in de kelder (paar plekjes buiten), vriendelijk personeel. Salade bij het eten is wel weinig, maar volgens mij is dat normaal.

I have had many fish and chips in my life, but i've never been as disappointed as i was with this one. The fish wasn't as fresh and tasty as it could have been, the batter was fairly bland and soggy. Obviously pre cooking everything before it gets served leaves it greasy and soggy on the outside, and the fish dry on the inner. The chips were nothing special, not a lot of pride in a crispy chip! As a business that thrives on customers, i was shocked to be met with a very rude lady whom i assume was the manager at the time. We asked to sit in the restaurant but we were refused, even tho we had never been given the choice of a seat. Now standing in the store with our food she told us that we couldn't sit in the empty restaurant. This meal did not settle with mine, or my partners stomachs. I'd probably find a Fish and Chips shop with some PRIDE in their food if i was in Clacton again.

Every time I've been here they have good quality and decently priced food.The staff are always friendly and welcoming.The restaurant is always clean and warming.

I would say the staff are pretty rude to be fair, the guy who worked there was asking if me and my partner were sure if we wanted to pay the extra £2 to sit in the restaurant, asking us a few times if we knew there would be an extra charge for this because you get extra service... What service?! Coke was flat, (2.15 a glass) and the cod had over six bones in it.. Chips were greasy. Over priced at 9 quid for cod and chips.. Give it a swerve

After spending most of the day roaming around Clacton we popped in here for dinner we decided to eat in as there was rain around and didn't want to get soaked. Staff were very friendly and took drink and food order very quickly. Food came to the table in 5mins, this place is a must for anyone visiting Clacton as it beats most chippys that I've been to and it's cheap and licensed if you fancied a beer with your meal.

Have used this lovely fish and chip shop for some years. No trip to Clacton is complete without fish and chips from here, sitting at one of the six tables situated outside. There is a sizeable sit down indoor restaurant and although we always opt for fish and chips outside we have seen some amazing looking salads being served to restaurant customers, as well as all the usual chip shop fare. Reasonably priced and fish always well cooked. Not over keen on the bread rolls - a bit on the chewy side.

My daughter and I got takeaway cod n chips,fantastic value for money,fish excellent thin crispy batter,freshly cooked,chips good,not greasy at all.will without a doubt use this place again.cant rate highly enough.

Went here for fish and chips and decided to eat in. The restaurant was very clean and waiting staff very welcoming and friendly. They gave my son a lollipop when we left was a nice little touch. Great value for money and definitely recommend.

I had lunch here with my children. The kids meals are good value for money. The adult portions are good. The food was all freshly prepared - although if I were quibbling the chips were slightly undercooked. Definitely better than eating on the pier.

We ate in the restaurant twice while we was on our little break in Clacton.The restaurant is very clean. The food was scrummy and the staff was very friendly, made me and my daughter feel very welcome, they even took time to talk to my daughter.Would defently recomend

My family and friends visited this restaurant on bank holiday Monday before our journey home. We decided to eat in restaurant downstairs which was very clean and tidy. The lady who served us was very helpful and kind. The portions were great and the food was served quite quickly, it was all delicous and very good value. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were really friendly. Thank you for making us all feel so welcome.

I wouldn't have even given this one star but needed to to review it.There were three of us went for lunch, after starting to eat, a member of staff shouted at another across the restaurant, very unprofessional and right at our table, this could have been done out back.Two of us finished before a child but then a member of staff started taking out plates, even though we still had an eater.When we came to pay, they took their time and we were in a hurry.I really don't think the staff know what they are doing. The food wasn't great. Over all I wouldn't recommend anyone here and won't be returning myself.

Good choice of fish and other food. Fish offered either grilled of with batter. Excellent rock eel, plaice & haddock. Chips had wonderful flavour.

Popped in for lunch on a very rainy day. Were quickly Shown to a table. Drinks order taken then came back for food. Lady taking the orders was very thorough and keen to ask if we wanted anything else. Food arrived promptly. All tasted fresh though felt the chips and fish could of done with slightly longer cooking so they would of been that little bit more crispy. Some of the staff both front and back of house must of been new as service seemed like a training session for them but how else are they going to learn.

The New Majestic is a great restaurant the food is brilliant and you get big portions. The staff are really friendly. It's the best restaurant in Clacton.

Interesting that this company has 2 different names on trip adviser. I wonder why? See: Criterion And Majestic Restaurant, very interesting reading. Management are appalling, rude and have no customer service skills what so ever.The food tasted like it had been stewed in oil for a few hours and dripped as you bit into it. We even tested this by picking up a piece of the fish and squeezing it gently. Yuck! I will never return to this restaurant until they chance the management."Avoid this place, unless your happy with terrible rude service" - All customers be warned........

I can't believe the bad reviews on here. My Wife and I ate in the restaurant the food was excellent. I can only think that the bad reviews have come from rival fish and chip shop owners. Definitely 5 star.

Ate here a few days ago in the restaurant. There were 8 of us having a meal each .....the server was so rude and snappy with us and got very rude when she had got our order wrong.her mistake not ours.the food its self was lovely and we couldn't fault it.such a shame that one server let the place down .No repeat custom from us I'm afraid to say .

Haven't been in Clacton for a couple of years - but as we enjoyed our lunch here last time we thought why not call again. Both our meals were well served, piping hot and well cooked. We sat outside and really enjoyed it. Good value with plenty to eat - we'll call in again if in the area.

It seems there are mixed reviews but I have to say our food was beautifully cooked and a generous portion. We had 3 fishcakes and 4 chips with bottles of pop to take away at £16. The quality really was very good, not oily and very hot. We would recommend.

Prices was spot on and value for money.Family of two teenagers and myself ..all large portions just over £15 The portions were plenty and tasted fantastic. Next time I'm in clacton will be visiting again without a doubt...Served in a quality box was impressive indeed. Keep up the good work.
