The New Diamond in Fenland

We ordered a takeaway this evening, took 1.30 hrs to get here. The food was cold. Evening bland, the ribs smelt like cat food and taste rotten. 42 quid absolutely wasted!! Avoid like the plauge

We traveled from Redcar to see family, tonight we decided to havexa meal out. The food we had was from the buffet menu. Jesus it was fantastic. The bill was £130 you might think that is strep but that includes drinks for 4 weeks had two drinks eack As far as the food is concerned, it was very well presented, hot and in a great quantity. The staff were extremely friendly, not pushy yet concerned that we had everything we requested. Well done we will be back!!!

I was very dissatisfied with my takeaway order (10081267). - Really the only thing I found tasty at all was the Prawn Toast. - The egg fried rice was extremely bland - I understand it's a side to a saucy main but the sauce on each of the mains was bland or overly bitter also. - The Peking Beef had a misleading image on the web platform - What was delivered did not look like it. I tried to get in touch with the restaurant directly but their contact email didn't work and they didn't answer the phone.

Not great. Service was very slow. We arrived at 7.30 and didn’t get our mains until 9.30. All in all, 3.5hrs of sitting waiting wasn’t enjoyable. Small portions if ordering from the set menu so either way something before, or choose a la carte.

Ate in the restaurant. Quality of food has gone down massively. Chicken and mushroom was so salty we couldn’t eat it. House wine was under proof at 5.5% but still charged at full rate. Pork dumplings were still frozen in the middle. Was with people that get embarrassed if you complain, so we ate what we could and left. Overall it was poor so definitely would not return.

Service was attentive, but that was about it. Food is very very average, portions small and price high. Not good quality meat, and it’s expensive Definitely won’t be visiting again

Recently was away in the area and spotted this place mentioned as good place for those needing gluten free food. I was a little dubious, and there was a few negative reviews in general recently but went down to speak to them. The chef came out and advised me she was Coeliac and showed me the separate gluten free frier, resting area and advised me all the tools for gluten free bits were different colours. Feeling reassured, they advised me they could essentially do any of the items gluten free and dairy free. So I excitedly went for sweet and sour chicken balls and lemon chicken. I’ve not had sweet & sour chicken balls since I was a child…. So I was pretty excited about this… All of the food items came out marked up as gluten & dairy free (I’m a coeliac and allergic to cows milk) The rice wasn’t the nicest rice I’ve ever had at a Chinese restaurant, but the rest of the dishes more than made up for that. Being able to have sweet and sour chicken balls again was amazing…. And they tasted really good. The place is good value, I really enjoyed the food and their ability to cater to allergies was fantastic.

I have to say with a heavy heart this has to be the worst chinese restaurant I have ever been to Same quality if you bought your on from Iceland make up your own mind needs to improve massively

Have driven past this place many times for years and always threatened to give it a go so we had a takeaway. Really hoped it would be good but unfortunately wasn’t great. We had a pork chow mein which was pretty tasteless, just tasted of bean sprouts and nothing much else. Chicken curry was sort of gloopy and perhaps a bit sweet which is unusual for a curry. Egg fried rice looked more like steamed rice and we also had spare ribs which tasted like they had been doused in watered down tomato ketchup. Unfortunately I wouldn’t use it again although the girl on reception was really friendly.

We booked a meal at the restaurant. After waiting for over an hour we still didn’t get our meal. The staff were far too busy doing take-aways. We were simply ignored, after politely asking for our starters. The plates were given to the wrong people, when we highlighted this politely. I had a plate thrown onto the table in front of me. Very rude and we will never go there again. It used to be a great restaurant, it certainly isn’t anymore.

We just had probably the worst Chinese takeaway we have ever had, and I’ve eaten in Birmingham… Ordered and delivered on time, from there it all went south. The pork (?) dish had 2 tiny slithers of meat on top of some horrible gloopy mess of a sauce. The spare ribs were literally painted bones, not even a CSI could find any trace of meat. The prawn crackers were soggy and black in places, inedible. The special fried rice had zero anything but rice in the container. It seemed old and hard. The chicken balls were more like sparrows balls. Tiny, dry and lacked any kind of flavour. The whole lot was cold to add insult to injury… I’ll upload photos so you can see for yourselves. I called to give feedback and the girl who answered the phone literally said “Sorry about that”. I guess the complaints must be numerous and she just switches off to them now. No wonder places are struggling to make a living if they dish up a mess like this. Utterly horrendous. Avoid at all costs if I were you.

We will not be eating here again. We decided to try this place for the first time, for takeaway. Because we haven't eaten here before, we decided to order something very simple : sweet and sour prawn balls, vegetable chow mein, pork fried rice. And this was by far the worst Chinese takeaway we have ever had. The fried rice was pure white, not a drop of soy sauce or seasoning touched it. There was very little egg, no spring onions (the flavour of fried rice comes from the spring onions and the scorched soy sauce..). It was literally clumpy boiled white rice mixed with bits of pork and peas. We have never had fried rice this bland before, with the rice grains all stuck together in clumps. And it was very greasy,and not in a pleasant way. The sweet and sour prawn balls were so soaked in oil that when biting into them, they squirted with pure oil inside our mouths. They were also very wet, and mushy, falling apart inside the bag, and the bag itself was completely soaked in grease and stuck to the balls at the bottom. Horrible wet mess. And as for the chow mein, again, like the rest of the meal, completely coated in grease. No flavour, just grease. One mouthful, and my lips were shiny with grease, and grease was dripping down the noodles when picking them up with a fork. Just picking up the noodles, you could see drops of oil dripping down from there, and I had to wipe my mouth after every bite because my lips were completely coated with grease. We will not be returning here again. Everything tasted like dirty grease and oil. No thanks. And not cheap either, £19!!!! Most of it went in the bin, we ate a bit of the rice and a few mouthfuls of chow mein, tried eating a prawn ball, then we started feeling sick from the grease and threw away the rest. On a side note, when picking up our food, I noticed the entrance waiting area had a very strong smell, almost like a toilet that hasn't been cleaned for a while. Not pleasant.

We stopped outside the Ship Inn in March on our narrowboat and ordered a takeaway from Purple Diamond. Food was delivered by a friendly driver and was excellent. Very happy and will definitely use again.

Tonight four went out tonight as a birthday treat We were met by very friendly staff. The starters were fantastic. The mains wow so tasty and very well presented. Thank God we did not order a second helping of starters. Will I go back hell yes worth every penny. Well done and thank you

I’m sorry to write this but the food was gross , worst Chinese I’ve ever eaten . The first course was so poor , 2 chicken satay which were very dry , garlic mushroom over cooked and prawn toast was burnt . Ordered a gin and tonic for wife , £7.50 ! And not sure it even went near the gin optic there was so much tonic in it . Main course was no better , rice was dry and stuck together , crispy beef was so over cooked you could snap it !! Sweet abs sour chicken was ok ,we had gone with friends who live nearby and said it was nice !! Even they admitted it was pretty poor

In booking this reservation I was asked was it an occasion Yes it was a birthday No more was asked on arrival there was a balloon and sprinkles on the table which I thought was a lovely touch. Then at the end of the meal we were presented with a birthday cake. None of this was asked for but what a lovely thing to do The meal was really nice and the service was very good

Really not great. Must be cause if it’s location but not authentic Chinese. Like the chef is trying to cater for a small British town that’s never tasted true Chinese food. The starters coated in sugar the main was the same. The staff tried but when I asked for saki that’s on there menu they didn’t have a clue what it was. Also two couples sat eating for romantic Sunday dinner and staff being young playing house and dance music. Wasn’t appropriate for the atmosphere and made me feel embarrassed that March doesn’t have much culture at all.

The gluten free chef has left....so has the quality gluten free food I once enjoyed. The staff tried their best, but it was a woeful experience. Would no longer recommend if you are gluten free (I used to)

We were in March for a function over the weekend and were looking for somewhere to eat on the Friday night. We fancied Chinese and found this restaurant on tripadvisor. We had the set menu where you choose 8 starters from a selection, crispy duck and then 4 main courses. All the food was delicious and full of flavour. Maybe we could of done without the duck as the portions are huge. All service were excellent, efficient and attentive. A previous review complains that all service staff are british and not chinese, who cares they were brilliant and I'm not sure what difference their nationality makes. Would recommend and If I ever went back to March id eat there again

From the outside, this is the most unlikely Chinese restaurant you could imagine! Inside deceptively large. Friendly staff - small set menu with all the usual suspects or takeaway. Went to celebrate my wife's birthday and made very welcome - we will be back!

Used to be good but a little while ago ordered a takeaway which wasn't very good. Had a need to order another and thought maybe the last time was a one off. How mistaken I was. Excellent yuk sung to start. False sense of security...crispy duck is chewy, dry duck (precooked and reheated?) with pancakes that split and fell apart (old and dry?). Chicken fried rice with no seasoning and no sign of any soy with dry chicken. Overspiced, pretty much inedible szechuan King prawns. Never again!

Waited 2.5 hours for a take away. Their app kept updating saying my delivery was delayed, they took my money. When I called them they claimed they hadn’t received my order which is ridiculous because I was getting regular updates. They said they could put my order through again but it would be 1.5 hours wait! They wanted to give me loyalty instead of a refund! Won’t be using them again!

Ordered at 5pm using app. Collection time 5.40pm. It is now 18.51 and my other half is still standing outside in the cold waiting for his order. 1 hour in this temperature is a disgrace!

Received the food after a long 1hr and 30 minute wait to be stone cold, and when asked to make it fresh they said 2hr and half hour wait after, never go there terrible service

We had a lovely meal here, the way their buffet works is you can choose 8 starters, and do this twice, then optional duck course, then choose a main like rice and sweet and sour chicken. Sounds like you don't get much choice but it was a great amount of food and we had a really nice time. Staff were lovely, food was cooked well and the wait time was short between each course. Would highly recommend and are also taking part in the 50% off scheme so was a real bargain!

I went here last night for a set menu and the ribs weren’t even cooked still red .. won’t be going back here not even an apology from the chef/ owner ..

Had a great takeaway, most of the food is available gluten free, this is a real plus factor for my wife who is gluten intolerant, her first Chinese takeaway in years. Happy to recommend and will be using them again. Thanks

Over priced under portioned and 20 min advised delivery turned out to be 1 hr and 45 mins which didn’t help the quality as had to heat in the microwave

We went here Sunday evening for a meal and I must say this was the best Chinese I have ever had. Staff very pleasent and helpful could not fault anything. Highly recommend for an evening out.

Had a take away this evening and it was the worst Chinese food I've ever put in my mouth!Pancake roll watery and glutenus. Egg fried rice lumpy and hardly any egg.Chicken curry hardly any chicken and old mushrooms tasted powdery and pretty much disgusting. Beef chow main with hardly any beef and what beef there was, was like leather!All in all pretty grim. I returned the meal for a refund. It was given but no apology! Indeed I was asked for my name and phone number! Obviously so I would not return!!!! No chance of that....

I’m not from March but was visiting family so this restaurant was booked early in the week for a Saturday night for 8 people. The restaurant was pretty busy but we landed at half eight. There were a few other large parties who had also clearly booked (birthday and work leaving party). The restaurant just did not have enough staff. I won’t go into the details but suffice to say that by quarter to eleven at night we had only managed two drinks and two courses of the banquet. The service was appalling. The place had a take away attached and that clearly takes priority. The staff were running backwards and forwards to that ignoring dining customers. We did get a discount at the end but I would much rather have had a decent meal. The food we did get was average. I suspect pre prepared cash and carry stuff. No better than Iceland produce. The service would probably be better in the week as I guess it wouldn’t be so busy. I’ve visited here 3 times now. Once it was ok. But that’s just not good enough. Drinks are ridiculously overpriced for this quality of restaurant. £3.80 for a can of Guinness or Fosters. £15 for a cheap Pinot Grigio. The wine we wanted at £17 they didn’t have in stock. The place is a little scruffy and has no atmosphere. I don’t know if there are any other Chinese restaurants in town but if so go there. Otherwise get a takeaway and eat at home ! I will not be returning

Myself and 3 ladies arrived last night for dinner. We got seated and served for drinks straight away by Stacey-Lou who couldn’t do enough for our table she was quick polite an even told us about alternatives and removing items which we didn’t know you did this before. We had the 3 course for £19.50 which we all thought was a great price for the food you got and it tasted amazing my only criticism is there’s not enough duck on the 2nd course for 4 people. Other then that the food the atmosphere and our hostess was excellent we will definitely be back thank you all for a wonderful evening Jess xxx

Dined inside for a change instead of getting a takeaway . Over priced food, tastes very poor: seaweed is terrible, left the whole plate, sweet and sour chicken is terrible, tasted of tomato ketchup, my mrs didn’t eat it so I begrudgingly did because I did not want to waste money. We rang for a take away the food was delivered in good time and was hot and delicious. The delivery charge of £5 was a little steep but we were being lazy so what can I say!.

We used to be a regular visitor to this establishment; food was always good and the staff friendly and reasonable priced. However you have to keep an eye on their drink prices.

My husband and I went in for a meal last night for our anniversary, table was decorated with balloons, banners and table confetti and looked lovely. Food was excellent and everything was fresh cooked to order. Staff there are all lovely and friendly.

Last night myself and my family came for my mother’s surprise 50th birthday meal.

Ordered my usual monthly takeaway of Beef with green pepper in black bean sauce and beef fried rice. usually i get puffed up fluffy rice and plenty of sauce in the beef dish and yummy. This time the rice was hard as if not cooked well and dry too. I assumed it was not freshly prepared. The beef dish was dry as well hardly any sauce and the beef was tough and chewy. Had a few spoonful and found it to dry and tough, binned the rest. On the positive side i got two fortune cookies and a 1ltr of coke because they did not have caned coke at the price of a caned coke.

My husband and I visited The Purple Diamond Restuarant yesterday evening with two of our dearest friends. When we arrived we were shown to our table by a very polite young lady..We were seated and Prawn Crackers and dips were brought over to us by a different urm person. I am all for live and let live but as I looked up I was fronted by a very heaily tattooed person with facial piercings. Each to their own but goodness me, she did not speak, she shouted. I maybe of the older generation but I am by no means deaf. Maybe, if she just took our order I could have ignored it but the sad fact is she spoke (shouted) far too much about nothing of any interest to my friend or myself nor was it of any relevance with regard our order. Our dining party ventured out for a pleasent, quite evening. Instead we had to endure the constant cackle and sound of her voice for the duration.

Some of my work friends and I meet once a month after work and go for a meal. This month we chose the Purple Diamond in March. Great service. Delicious food. Parking right outside the front door. Reasonable prices. What more could you want? I will definitely be going back there again.

We’ve had many lovely Vists to the restaurant and appreciate it’s a busy time of year but perhaps you should have told customers when you couldn’t keep up with take away orders as let your restaurant customers down in service we had to leave as had waited so long for a main we left . Fenland customers support you all year and out of pure greed put your buffet prices up due to it being the Christmas period let’s hope you remain as busy when the new buffet Chinese opens in the town .....

After reading some of the other reviews on here I was a little reluctant to book for this evening. However we kept our fingers crossed and hoped for the best and made the booking.

This was our second visit to this restaurant and will be our last. 12 months ago we had a fantastic birthday meal, there were balloons, bottle of wine and a cake thrown in.

Visited this restaurant for the first time for an evening meal with friends. I was very surprised to by the place being so empty at first but it filled up quickly? A good sign I thought? Our meal was about average in my view. Unfortunately the restaurant was let down badly by packing boxes of stock and supplies left on the top of cupboards in full view of the customers. Our table was also close to an opening door to the toilets that blow cold air across us for most of the evening. I like aromatic not hot spicy food and the dishes were pleasant enough. The staff were friendly and helpful but some were too blasé to the point of being cheeky. We were seated in the back of the restaurant in a very Spartan room, not as well decorated as the front-of-house. I will visit this restaurant again just to see if I am being too picky?

Being a restaurant they offer the same quality of food as in their takeaway menu. Dinning in is nice too and so are the staff ever so polite.

Really great food, some of the best chinese I’ve had in months. The atmosphere was static the staff aswell were amazing, can’t be faulted they assisted to all of our needs and checked in with us several times throughout the evening.

went there on a Monday night ! would of expected a set menu for the Mon to Thursday as a special ! but no, we had the Buffet which was a whopping £16.00 a head ! you choose 2 starters each ! I thought these were dishes ! no one thing arrived, one crab claw and one sticky rib no bigger than a saucer, my husband ordered the same so we had 2! one each and we ordered some sqind , ! and the main meal sweet and sour chicken dish,which was a small dish ! and hubby ordered beef dish, then we ordered a rice dish and noodle.,, just enough,for me not for hubby, a glass of wine £4.50 Black Tower, beer £3,00 a bottle, and we had coffee, ! well the bill was way too much for eating out in march, would of been better if it was top class London, !! tooo dear.plus frozen food not fresh.

I would highly recommend this restaurant the service was fantastic and the food was out of this world they accomandate my diate being a type 1 diabetic all I can say is thank you very much

First time eating here and the food was absolutely awful was stone cold and the quality was rubbish. The worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. We complained to the waitress who informed the chef who then came from the kitchen shouting ‘free, everything free’ throughout the restaraunt which was very unprofessional. We did not pay for our meal, which we do not like doing and find this unacceptable, however the food was so bad we could not even eat it. We left all of our main dinner as we had been in there 3 hours by the time we got it and it was cold like the rest of the meal. They had also sold out of multiple different beers which is not satisfactory for a Saturday night.

This is the first that we have used this takeaway and will be the last, unfortunately the food DOES NOT match the price, the food was extremely bland and dry, the price was very expensive, more like city prices ie London, considering i used too live in Romford which is approx 17 miles from London and much cheaper.

Had several takeaways from Purple Diamond, and enjoyed them all, from eating alone, or with the mrs, to fully fledged family blow-outs. It's quite a popular takeaway, so get your order in prompt as you can, 'cause as they get busier the wait gets longer.

This Chinese restaurant is one of the best in March. Have been there a number of times now. Have had several different dishes, all have been very good.

Having been to Purple Diamond several times over the years and in recent months around 5 times, I have found the new way of doing the Eat all you can Buffet is no longer worth the money. The staff are brillant and make sure that it is a pleasant experience. But cost wise it is no longer viable for us.

Had the buffet here for a birthday and couldn’t fault it! So much food for the money you pay!! Well worth it. The staff couldn’t do enough for us! Such an amazing place would highly recommend and definitely going back :)

Well this wasn’t a visit as such unless you can count travelling to this place to order take away. Waste of petrol

We came Saturday night and had an amazing meal. The amount of gluten free options is great so much choice. Staff happy and friendly. We will be returning.

We very often order take away from here and it's always spot on. The best thing by far from here are the sauces epes the bbq sauce, it's amazing and have never found another place that tastes as good.

I came to the restaurant for my birthday last month and it was amazing. We had quite a fussy table with a vegetarian, a peanut allergy and a gluten free person. I was so impressed by how easily my friends dietary requirements were catered for and the food came out fast and it was super nice. They even decorated the table with banners, confetti and a helium balloon which I got to take home. I also got a cake and a bottle of pear cider. Best Chinese I’ve ever had and the staff were so nice and cheerful. ❤️

Went this evening. For a second time first time I was in a bit group and service was poor as restaurant was very busy, food was good but couple orders missed when food came out. ☹️

Called at 6.30 and advised to collect in half an hour. So by my watch that's 7.00 not the 7.40 when my meal was handed over. Fail 1. Fail 2 was that my meal was missing. There was no way I was driving 40 minutes there and back to go and get it. Fail 3. The rest of the food was awful. To give you some idea of the quality I've added a photo of the chips. The rest looked ok but wasn't very nice in my opinion although we did eat most of it. I did phone about the missing meal to ask for a refund on my card. As the manager wasn't around to approve they sent a delivery driver with a refund. The rest of the 1 star reviews for this place are spot on and I only wish I'd read them before wasting my time on this poor excuse of a Chinese....

This is a fantastic restaurant the food is absolutely beautiful and my god you need to be hungry the portions are great the service is fantastic and it was my wife's birthday on the seventeenth and they really put themselves out for you the place is spotless and the prices are very reasonable I've paid more for a takeaway in wisbech and it was not anywhere as good as the food that we had I fully recommended this restaurant to everyone you won't be disappointed absolutely fabulous

Four of us went for mywifes birthday what a great night the food wAs absolutely fantastic they done balloons free cake and bottle of drink the service is fantastic this restaurant is cheaper than the takeaways in wisbech the restaurant is absolutely spotless and the food my god you really got to be hungry you get so much and it is cooked to the highest standards I fully recommended this place to everyone second time there and will be back for more fantastic place

I have been to this very busy restaurant about 5 times since 2017, the food is very good, plenty of it and reasonably priced, service is great on every occasion, they also do takeaway.

Just had the Sunday buffet, I think between the 3 courses we had all our favourites, ribs, chilli beef, beef in black bean sauce, crispy duck, Thai curry with prawns, chow mein all cooked really well and very tasty. Good value with friendly staff maybe the walls could do with a lick of new paint but overall really good!

My family celebrated my daughter's 30th Birthday at the Purple Diamond on Friday 3rd February. They had decorated the table with banners and balloons and as my daughter is a coeliac, they were very helpful with suggestions as to what she could and couldn't eat....

Been many times and never had a bad experience, food always fab, will be going back, Although we do use the Purple Diamond as a take away during the week with the free delivery.

I'm not normally one to write a review but we ate here tonight for my wife's birthday and the food was first class, the staff were beyond lovely, and they surprised my wife (and me!) With balloons, cake and bubbly and it made her night!! Sorry for setting off the fire alarm! We had a great choice of food from the menu and it let us pick things we don't usually eat. The satay sauce was so good and I think the waitress could tell as she asked me if I wanted to take a pot home. We will be back!

Went for a Sunday evening meal for three. However waited 20 minutes just for a menu then eventually 2 out of the 3 drinks turned up had to wait another 5 minutes for the third. When somebody decided to take our order several starters were unavailable, which we wasn't when receiving our menus. This was an all you can eat buffet menu with the majority of the dishes unavailable

Food is very lovely, even though I was full after 2 courses I still ate the 3rd as it was too nice to leave, staff are very friendly and welcoming! Our food come out very quick! We booked for a 40th birthday, we got balloons, banners, confetti, cake and even a free bottle of champagne!! I will definitely be returning highly recommend!!

Went on a Saturday evening, there were three Birthday parties going on but, service to us was excellent and food delivered very quickly.

The service was second to none. The food was the best Chinese I have tasted. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The restaurant was clean and tidy. We will definitely be back very soon!
