I've used the New Bengal since 1973, so have known it for nearly 50 years. Sunni, Mac and Sol's Dad was the first owner I knew and the boys have kept his excellent traditions going. The food is lovely and they will adjust the menu to your choice. Always best to book.

2 hours from order to delivery and 2 calls to chase up. Food cold on arrival. Very, very disappointing as we’ve always been fans over the years. Will think twice about using again.

Was hoping to get here a few months ago, but Chuck blew me out so I never got here (i've not heard from him since). Finally came here with Davo after he saw how heart broken I was. We turned up unannounced and asked for a table for 2 and were told to wait 15 minutes (so we nipped to the 4 Ale tap rooms for a 2 sharpners ) then returned. And were thanked for returning. 1st class service although the Moosh serving us was slightly difficult to understand. We got poppadoms to start with the had, Chicken tikka masala, Chili chicken masala, mushroom rice, coconut rice, peshwari naan, garlic naan and a side of onion bahjis. Absolutely first class. The chicken was extremely moist and tender. If i could fault it. Well I'd have liked my first time to have been with Chuck. Mainly as I'd have been here a few months earlier. Dave was good company and it would have been even better if it had been my 2nd time here instead of my first.

Called in as we had overnight stay in Portsmouth. They managed to allocate us a table as the place was really busy. Food was fantastic and service excellent. A real find.

My father lives in Gosport and has spent a lot of money in this restaurant over the years, came highly recommended when me and my husband came down to visit from London. He had booked at a table for 9.30pm. Walked in at 9.27pm to be told we needed to wait another 45 minutes (despite having a table booked! No organisation at all AVOID AVOID AVOID.

Cant fault this place, the Indian Summer dish was out of this world 😋

Absolutely love this restaurant I’d say it’s one of my top 3 places, food is just delicious and the guys who run it are the nicest people they cannot do enough for you, our takeaway was going to take a bit longer so they sat us down and got us a drink while we waited ! Wonderful place, fabulous food that far exceeds the standard (good) Indian fare, huge portions and great service. They just need to add a ‘tip’ option on the card machine.

Best restaurant in Gosport. Long established ,with reputation of serving authentic Indian dishes and Anglicised popular ones also. Substantive, varied menu to suit all tastes which can be tweaked to suit. Seemingly the only restaurant in the area that has a functioning kitchen after 6pm on a Sunday evening and it was absolutely packed ! Clean. modern, well staffed. Best to book.

Has always ,consistently ,historically been the best restaurant in Gosport. Substantive menu ,authentic tasty Indian recipes and the Anglicised favourites. Seemingly the only restaurant in Gosport that serves food on a Sunday after 6pm.? Probably a good idea to book!!!

Without a doubt the best Indian restaurant (and takeaway) in Hampshire! Every meal is perfect, I've been here numerous times over the years for both a sit down experience and takeaway; and have never been let down with the experience. I recommend this to anyone in Gosport, extremely well priced, fast service, great atmosphere.

Work all over UK and probably have an India once a week. Been here several times in the last 8 years. It's in my top 3 Indian restaurants.

My dad came here when I was a baby for take away, he would always have madras and a pint of carling while he waited! Last night I came here with my dad (and the family) for my 50th Birthday and nothing in terms of service and quality has changed. The service is superb, the food delightful (only its kingfisher on tap now, not carling thank goodness!). Only 4 stars for the food because the prawns in my dhansak were a little chewy, as was the lamb in my son's, but other than that, it was an amazing meal and I have always, and will always come here for my curries.

Since living in Gosport my partner and I have found a few restaurants and take-aways we both enjoy but nothing compares to New Bengal. Everything from the moment you walk in the door to leaving is perfect. The waiters here are very kind and all have a great sense of humour. And the food is always incredible. We always get a starter and a main. Some of the dishes here I've never seen in other Indian restaurants and are delicious. If you are going to visit on a weekend it's always best to book a table well in advance. It's always busy here and if you call on the day the phone will always be engaged (because of how good their reputation is.

First curry from this restaurant, service was good especially when they were busy. I had a family gathering,I collected the food and we all thought the food was amazing.

We dined at 17:30 and the place was busy by the time we left there was a queue outside. The New Bengal is a restaurant I will visit again.

It's been a while since we visited this little Indian Restaurant and I believe it is now under new management. However, the service and food is as good as I remember it from previous visits. Attentive waiters, quick service, fabulous food, reasonably priced. What more can you ask for? Plus it's always busy which, to me, is a sign of a good reputation. Keep up the good work guys!!

We have used this restaurant for the past 3 years and wouldn't go anywhere else. We visit in house 2-3 times a year on our birthdays and anniversaries. And have at least 1 takeaway a month. Always with 10% discount on collection. Wether eating in or take away the food is amazing. So tasty, generous portions and cooked to perfection. And very fairly priced. The mango and pistachio ice creams are always a must after the meal. The staff are always so attentive and nothing is too much trouble. They are friendly and professional but can still have a laugh and a joke about which adds to the atmosphere and ambiance. We have always booked before eating in as you can rarely get seated if you just walk in-a tell tale sign of just how good it is here. Very clean, and mellow authentic Indian decor throughout. Definitely recommend this place

Food beautiful and lovely atmosphere. Had a small issue tonight though when ordering for collection. Was told the total was £30.90 including the 10% collection discount. Asked to pay seperately and they were asking for over £16 each saying it is more if you pay seperately which it shouldn't be as he said he still applied the 10% discount to us both. Tried to explain his maths was wrong but he wouldn't listen and he was insinuating I was being petty over 2 or 3 pound. Simple maths £10 order with 10% off is £9 If you pay separetely £5 with 10% off is £4.50 £5 with 10% off is £4.50 £4.50+£4.50 =£9 STILL SAME PRICE! Food was really great though, would definitely recommend. Just don't ask to split a bill when there are discounts involved.

Normally order the chicken dupiazia which is usually very nice, but tonight it was so hot and not nice at all, very disappointed.

Probably the best Indian meal I've had and believe me I've been to lots of great Indian restaurants in Southall etc. The mixed lamb starter and a goan lamb dish for main was to die for. Will be travelling down special from Northampton occasionally from now on as it was that good.

This is the best Indian restaurant on the South Coast. The food and service is exceptional. I had chicken balti, the best that I have ever tasted. They have a lot of regular customers and people celebrating. They also do take away meals. Their take away menu is online.

This is by far the best curry house I’ve ever had. I’ve been around many of the local Indians but won’t be going else where now I’ve found this one! Unbelievable!

Mac - the owner, and Shamah - the waiter (I hope I have spelt both correctly) are the absolute life and soul of this restaurant. I would recommend takeaway because the food is absolutely incredible but I think the service here is my favourite part of the experience. Dress like a king or wear your shorts and flip flops, it doesn't matter, each of these gentlemen will treat you like the most important person in the room. I have been in to eat twice and I would (and often do) recommend this place to anybody that will listen. New Bengal is the pinnacle of high Street Indian restaurants and especially so in Gosport. I couldn't be happier with everything I've experienced here. Excellent food, incredible service, and a meal that will leave you full but fully satisfied. I couldn't comment on the deserts because I've been far too full on both occasions. Extremely generous portions but perfect for loving and sharing. Not been here since before covid. Still as good as ever with the food and service

Returned after several months and realised what a mistake I made . Food just delicious, just the right balance of spices and heat . Attentive staff , and judging how busy it was it remains the town’s favourite curry house.

When my friends and I had completed our meal, the reason that they were so busy and we had to wait for a table was more than obvious. The food and service were both flawless!! And the price very sensible. There are reasons I sometimes visit Gosport that guarantee I'll be eating here again when I do.

Good food but took ages to arrive. Quite a big party of 18 but slow nevertheless. Staff were great and food was lovely albeit not as hot as expected

Just back from eating in this restaurant. The choice is extensive and different. Whilst serving the traditional curries Madras, Vindaloo, etc. It also offers a completely new recipe I had the chicken naga murgh, hot and favoursome. My group thought their dishes were excellent. The staff are polite and attentive. Very busy place , although I recommend you book in advance as it was very busy.

Found the food to be very bland and overall an average 3, although I did consider awarding this a 2 based on food alone. Nice waiters however will not be returning.

Food was amazing - one staff member very polite and helpful - but rest of staff quite curt and abrupt couldn' wait to get rid of us - it felt like a fast food cafe and a poor one at that. I feel they should not book you in if they cannot give you a decent service. Sad to see a much loved curry house get like this

Great curry here, I had a delicious Goan lamb dish. The prices were quite reasonable and the service was quick and we were well looked after. I've always had consistently good experiences coming here and look forward to another visit!

We were here last New Year’s Eve and it was amazing. The food tonight was as good as ever but the staff were not! We felt rushed and found one member of staff quite arrogant and off hand. Disappointing !

We came here on a bit of a whim when we couldn't decide what to do for dinner. Thankfully we came across New Bengal and me and my partner couldn't be happier. The waiters here are all incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is incredible. They also offer takeaway/delivery which was very prompt. Definitely a new favourite of ours in the area and will be coming back again and again and again.

We've ordered once before and was decent but tonight the chicken tikka starter and the chicken within my chicken tikka massala curry was rubbery/tough... spent 40 pound overall on the meal and chucked all mine away as it tasted like it needed cooking a bit longer... can't order from here again, not worth the risk

We were warmly welcomed, which was the best bit of the experience and shown to a table, First impressions, that evening, were that the restaurant was clean. The music was very loud and the phone, even louder. Having selected a main course and drinks, each, we were offered papadoms, and some extras for the mains, which were agreed. Two minutes after the arrival of the papadoms and accompaniments (why put spoonables to one side and the papadoms between us?) , the waiter came and said, 'your main course is ready, would you like it now?' It would have been clear that we were only a quarter-way through the starter.. We asked for a five-minute delay, which was literally that, when he asked again. OK, then .. The mains arrived, looked nice. Mine was meant to be king prawns in a cashew and coconut sauce. The sauce was sweet and there was no evidence of cashews, in any form. The accompanying lemon rice was tepid and had many pieces of chopped lemon in it. I like lemon zest, but not pith, I don't think anyone enjoys the pith - so I put all the chunks, but one, to the side of my plate. The peshwari naan was delicious. The bottled beer was as expected. Clearing the table, the waiter spilt some rice in the table and a tablemat, but did not return to clear up the spill. Not good. We decided not to order anything else and had long since, decided not to return. An evening that started so promisingly, fell flat. This used to be a very good restaurant. Not any more.
