The Nelson in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

Under new management, very modern inside. Owner was really nice and keen to build the business. Really nice for a drink. We could not comment on food as we did not stay.

Stayed one night. The room was clean and comfortable. The place still isn’t doing food but as long as you are aware you can plan accordingly. The landlady and landlord were welcoming and friendly. It wasn’t the Ritz but we weren’t charged Ritz prices. We will return

Waited an hour for the food. Came out cold and kids portions. Will not be going there again. High expectations as the reviews were good!

I booked a week in advance a table for 4. Having arrived and the place looked shut I checked again on the website which clearly states opening times. I tried to telephone from the car park to get a full message service response. At this point a very scruffy looking man opened a kitchen door and said it was closed. I said they had taken a booking from me and he looked surprised, closed the door not to be seen again. Not even an apology. I wouldn't touch this place with a barge pole. Full marks to The Hero at Burnham Overy who found us a table with no notice despite being very busy.

Very friendly staff, good service and value for money. The food was good and the local beef burgers from Howells were better then No.29. Well worth a visit.

The place was devoid of customers the night we went, but it was only the second day of the new proprietors doing food. My husband’s burger was pleasant but my Lasagne was barely edible and certainly not recognisable as a lasagne! The so called mince resembled sloppy corned beef in texture and taste and the landlady said it was because they could only get steak mince so when it was boiled down in preparation for the lasagne it went very squashy as didn’t have much fat. BOILED mince in a Lasagne?!?! Since when did anyone BOIL mince to make a lasagne? I only use 5% or less fat mince for a lasagne and never have any trouble with taste or texture (but then I don’t boil it!). Maybe the chef needs to check out a few recipes on google, and find a new recipe, because his present one was only a recipe for disaster! Will we be returning? I think that’s a no.

Called in to have a drink and potential food as the pub advertises food and drink. Nice outside area to sit with our Daschund. We had travelled a couple of hours from Lincolnshire and needed food and drink as I am diabetic. When ordering a drink , two lager shandies ,, asked what food was available, were abruptly told ‘nothing’ - this was late afternoon on a very busy summer afternoon. Why ? So receiving our drinks and reluctantly two packets crisps we were charged £15.40 ! Shandy was 75% Lemonade AND to add insult to injury the lemonade was TESCO VALUE- which the landlady was trying to hide the label from view. New landlord’s ? Probably not for long as only 3 couples sat outside. Could be a great environment. Will not be returning.

I am not sure if I ever paid to sleep in such a tired and grubby room. Such a disappointment. Black mould on walls and windows. Shower and grout black. Bed soft and sheets ancient. Carpet stained and walls scuffed. Massive gap under door and furniture feeble and tatty. Staff in bar very friendly and an effort made with food, although not amazing. Definitely not what one imagines as a country inn.

After seeing pictures we decided to try this pub-it is a local pub but the smell of fish was overwhelming when we arrived.

Lovely little find! Great staff and reasonable prices. Good place for lunch and catch up with old friends. Great location only a short walk from the main village which hosts some lovely little shops

A lovely pub. A little cold inside, not in terms of temperature, but instead in terms of decor - thin wooden chairs and tables, a bit like a cafe. However, we went outside into the garden and it was fabulous. What seemed like new booths, and the food was really good. We had the prawn and steak sandwiches. Prawn = amazing. Steak didn’t have very much… steak!! We paid an extra £1.50 as we asked for a beef sandwich but they had run out. We got some tiny slithers of steak, so this could be improved. However, portions were good, chips delicious and fab service. Would recommend!!

Visited here a couple of years ago, and had a great time - good food, reasonable prices and good atmosphere. What a change, and none of it good. Limited and 'fancy' menu, silly prices(£10 for a sandwich?? ) and no atmosphere. I can only assume they are trying to become a 'trendy' pub !! Sorry to say, I will not be returning.

Ordinary pub serving good homemade food with fresh ingredients. Staff were friendly and they are dog friendly. Plenty of seating outside. Certainly didn’t go hungry!

Homemade, tasty and good value. We popped in here for a quick bite to eat. Lamb kofta with pitta and beautiful mint yoghurt dressing. Also scampi with a lovely chunky homemade tartar sauce. All washed down with cider and a good Spanish beer. Good value and would recommend

Firstly, the staff were very good, just not enough of them to cope with the full tables, just please hire more staff or reduce the amount of tables. Our food arrived, however our starters arrived before our drinks! The food was good, apart from one steak meal which was inedible. The manager took our steak meal of the bill, again very apologetic, and couldn’t fault her.The location, the garden, the view has so much potential, they just need to get the basics right. But this is not fault of the staff on the night. Being local we so wanted this to be a new place to go but to be that they need to up the ante before we return.

Out for the day along the Norfolk coast and came across this gem of a pub....the seafood platter is amazing....for £50...or £60 with half a lobster we thought was too good to be true!!!....Well we were wrong....for £50 we got.... Giant shell on prawns Scampi Whitebait Prawns Smoked salmon 2 fresh cod goujons A dressed crab which honestly was amazing 2 freshly made fish cakes which I wouldn't even let my other half try as they were so good!!! Freshly made skin on fries Salad with a homemade dressing which I wish I could have bought. Fresh bread Thousand island dressing And a homemade tartar sauce which I will be returning for with what we have even if its just to take it home!!! The pub was very clean and current with decor....wish we could have stayed as it would have been so pretty at night in a lovely location. Good choice of beers...wines and spirits too. Very welcoming atmosphere....we definitely will be returning to try other things on the menu as we kept looking at the food coming out and everything looked excellent....

We just finished our stay here for four nights and it was fantastic. The food was really good quality and they’re generous with portion sizes. The staff were friendly and exceedingly helpful throughout our stay, and our rooms were very comfortable too without any issues. This is our go to stay now for when we come back to the North Norfolk coast. I would advise you to do the same.

This is a very ordinary pub with extraordinary prices, Drinks are ok but the food prices are just silly. Only one vegetarian main dish which was cauliflower and spinach pie! Price was £23 !!! The " garden" is just a sectioned off part of the carpark. Inside is just bland and boring.

Fantastic seafood platter this evening, a massive portion, we didn’t do it justice! Well priced, the staff were lovely and attentive. Well worth a visit!

We first stopped at the Nelson our first morning staying in Burnham Market. We were a but late for breakfast but the lady serving said that was OK. All in all, we had 4 breakfasts and 4 dinners at the pub. Each meal was just amazing, from the seafood platter, enough for 3 to kippers and eggs. The chef is a genius with food!! I wanted to take him home! All of the staff were super friendly and the ambience was great. Please go and stop for a meal here and you'll see what I mean.

Food was awful, the staff didn’t know what they were serving but then again they were children, looked far too young to be legally working/serving alcohol. Definitely not covid secure. Only one staff member wearing a mask. They allowed customers to walk around without masks, no sanitising of tables. Customers ordering and standing around at the bar again with no masks. It was as if we were the odd ones for wearing ours

The waitress was genuinely the worst I've ever had, incredibly rude and threw plates down so hard food went flying off the plate and onto the table (without an apology, and she did it twice!!). We were a large party and one person found a small plastic wire in their food, another had TWO hairs in their dinner and one vegetarian dish had a bit of pork in their meal. The response from the waitress was 'there's nothing I can do about it now'. After speaking to the chef she came back and said that he just 'bit her head off'. He told her that the ribs are from a packet so there couldn't have been hair in there (just what you want to hear after paying £18 for ribs to find out that it's from a packet!!). No apology for having meat in a vegetarian dish which is frankly despicable. After complaining to the manager we were given 10% off which was incredibly measly. There are so many better options in Burnham Market, avoid this one like the plague!
