The Nelson in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

I am not sure if I ever paid to sleep in such a tired and grubby room. Such a disappointment. Black mould on walls and windows. Shower and grout black. Bed soft and sheets ancient. Carpet stained and walls scuffed. Massive gap under door and furniture feeble and tatty. Staff in bar very friendly and an effort made with food, although not amazing. Definitely not what one imagines as a country inn.

After seeing pictures we decided to try this pub-it is a local pub but the smell of fish was overwhelming when we arrived.

Lovely little find! Great staff and reasonable prices. Good place for lunch and catch up with old friends. Great location only a short walk from the main village which hosts some lovely little shops

A lovely pub. A little cold inside, not in terms of temperature, but instead in terms of decor - thin wooden chairs and tables, a bit like a cafe. However, we went outside into the garden and it was fabulous. What seemed like new booths, and the food was really good. We had the prawn and steak sandwiches. Prawn = amazing. Steak didn’t have very much… steak!! We paid an extra £1.50 as we asked for a beef sandwich but they had run out. We got some tiny slithers of steak, so this could be improved. However, portions were good, chips delicious and fab service. Would recommend!!

Visited here a couple of years ago, and had a great time - good food, reasonable prices and good atmosphere. What a change, and none of it good. Limited and 'fancy' menu, silly prices(£10 for a sandwich?? ) and no atmosphere. I can only assume they are trying to become a 'trendy' pub !! Sorry to say, I will not be returning.

Went on a Tuesday night and got a table the food was very good and lots of it,really friendly staff and dog friendly as well

Ordinary pub serving good homemade food with fresh ingredients. Staff were friendly and they are dog friendly. Plenty of seating outside. Certainly didn’t go hungry!

Homemade, tasty and good value. We popped in here for a quick bite to eat. Lamb kofta with pitta and beautiful mint yoghurt dressing. Also scampi with a lovely chunky homemade tartar sauce. All washed down with cider and a good Spanish beer. Good value and would recommend

Firstly, the staff were very good, just not enough of them to cope with the full tables, just please hire more staff or reduce the amount of tables. Our food arrived, however our starters arrived before our drinks! The food was good, apart from one steak meal which was inedible. The manager took our steak meal of the bill, again very apologetic, and couldn’t fault her.The location, the garden, the view has so much potential, they just need to get the basics right. But this is not fault of the staff on the night. Being local we so wanted this to be a new place to go but to be that they need to up the ante before we return.

Out for the day along the Norfolk coast and came across this gem of a pub....the seafood platter is amazing....for £50...or £60 with half a lobster we thought was too good to be true!!!....Well we were wrong....for £50 we got.... Giant shell on prawns Scampi Whitebait Prawns Smoked salmon 2 fresh cod goujons A dressed crab which honestly was amazing 2 freshly made fish cakes which I wouldn't even let my other half try as they were so good!!! Freshly made skin on fries Salad with a homemade dressing which I wish I could have bought. Fresh bread Thousand island dressing And a homemade tartar sauce which I will be returning for with what we have even if its just to take it home!!! The pub was very clean and current with decor....wish we could have stayed as it would have been so pretty at night in a lovely location. Good choice of beers...wines and spirits too. Very welcoming atmosphere....we definitely will be returning to try other things on the menu as we kept looking at the food coming out and everything looked excellent....

We just finished our stay here for four nights and it was fantastic. The food was really good quality and they’re generous with portion sizes. The staff were friendly and exceedingly helpful throughout our stay, and our rooms were very comfortable too without any issues. This is our go to stay now for when we come back to the North Norfolk coast. I would advise you to do the same.

This is a very ordinary pub with extraordinary prices, Drinks are ok but the food prices are just silly. Only one vegetarian main dish which was cauliflower and spinach pie! Price was £23 !!! The " garden" is just a sectioned off part of the carpark. Inside is just bland and boring.

Fantastic seafood platter this evening, a massive portion, we didn’t do it justice! Well priced, the staff were lovely and attentive. Well worth a visit!

We first stopped at the Nelson our first morning staying in Burnham Market. We were a but late for breakfast but the lady serving said that was OK. All in all, we had 4 breakfasts and 4 dinners at the pub. Each meal was just amazing, from the seafood platter, enough for 3 to kippers and eggs. The chef is a genius with food!! I wanted to take him home! All of the staff were super friendly and the ambience was great. Please go and stop for a meal here and you'll see what I mean.

I went in for my birthday meal. The food was great and atmosphere very friendly. All drinks we asked for they had 🙂 definitely recommend.

Food was awful, the staff didn’t know what they were serving but then again they were children, looked far too young to be legally working/serving alcohol. Definitely not covid secure. Only one staff member wearing a mask. They allowed customers to walk around without masks, no sanitising of tables. Customers ordering and standing around at the bar again with no masks. It was as if we were the odd ones for wearing ours

Poor service and a real crime to ruin a rack of lamb in that way. Not Covid secure. Staff didn’t wipe a single table down outside. Staff walking about without masks inside and out. I wish I had got fish and chips from the takeaway. Even theWhite wine was warm!

The waitress was genuinely the worst I've ever had, incredibly rude and threw plates down so hard food went flying off the plate and onto the table (without an apology, and she did it twice!!). We were a large party and one person found a small plastic wire in their food, another had TWO hairs in their dinner and one vegetarian dish had a bit of pork in their meal. The response from the waitress was 'there's nothing I can do about it now'. After speaking to the chef she came back and said that he just 'bit her head off'. He told her that the ribs are from a packet so there couldn't have been hair in there (just what you want to hear after paying £18 for ribs to find out that it's from a packet!!). No apology for having meat in a vegetarian dish which is frankly despicable. After complaining to the manager we were given 10% off which was incredibly measly. There are so many better options in Burnham Market, avoid this one like the plague!

Beautifully presented, excellent food, amazing value - would definitely come here again. Chef personally spoke to person on phone when booking table as we had a vegan in the party, then again on the day to check the suitability of the dish. Very impressed! A diamond in the rough, would highly recommend.

Ghostship is a wonderful ale, but not here, it was off and even the colour was wrong, and £4.20 for a pint - not going again

Really lovely pub for families with good food at a reasonable price.The Sunday roast was Pork and everything about it was just perfect.Hot Dogs and chips for the children which they hoovered up in no time at all.I love this area and it's useful to know of a good pub with nice food and friendly staff

So the last time I ate in The Nelson the food was awful and it matched the service! It’s now under new management and our visit couldn’t be more different ! We booked 2 rooms which were excellent value for money . £10 for full English breakfast( which was fab !! ) The staff were lovely and the food was excellent . We stayed for 2 nights and will definitely go back !!

Dropped in on the way back to North Runcton from Wells. Difficult to find anywhere serving food late afternoon on a Sunday - Fortunately for us The Nelson saved the day and we could not have been more pleased with the service and the food.We fancied a good old Sunday roast before the next lockdown. We decided on a light starter of Nachos with chilli accompanied by homemade guacamole and sour cream followed by one Beef and one lamb roast.Just as well we were advised to share the starter, not only was there ample quantity the quality of everything was excellent.We then attacked our roasts, once again the quality of every single item, from veg to meat was superb - probably the leanest most succulent roast meats we've been served in years.To make the visit even more enjoyable the staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly and don't worry about COVID they have everything covered.

The food on the menu clearly isn't something they cook, we expected a fancy meal and were presented with basic pub food options. The meal itself was very basic, and the prawns left a lot to be desired. The curry was fine as was the lamp hotpot but the steak pie was mainly pastry and little filling!! There choice of flavoured gin and rose wine was very poor as was the customer service. We had to wait jammed in the door whilst they finished serving drinks (not great during these covid times) and when we reordered drink some of it was forgotten and the waitress go moodier as the night went on!! Definitely wont be going back, really poor throughout!!

I believe the owners were new, and there are certainly a few teething things to get sorted... I’d say the choice of lagers was not great, the wine prices are very high. But our food was well priced and very tasty. We had steak which was flavoursome & cooked well. Service was good too...The atmosphere possibly needs a little work as it feels very bright & open and it needs something which I’m sure they will inject in due course. We noticed only 1 window had curtains and the rest had a mix of blinds or no blinds. Biggest thing we noticed was the depressing dreary music, this along with the brightness probably stopped us staying longer for another drink.
