Absolutely lovely place with kind, friendly staff who are happy to help out a group of friends on a Narrowboat with everything they could need. Really appreciated this lovely spot. The food is great and the drinks are even better. A Highly recommended stop on your journey.

Family of 5 stopped here for lunch. Albeit 2 of our party really wanted a traditional English breakfast which wasn’t on the menu. The landlord promptly said he would try his best to provide one and asked for a list of what breakfast items they wanted. We also ordered a jacket potato and a child’s meal. Whilst we were waiting we asked the landlord if there was a convenience store nearby as we had run out of bed. (We were holidaying on a narrow boat so limited to where we could get to for shop). He told us that there wasn’t anywhere nearby. However when our food was served up, the landlord placed a new loaf of bread on the table! He hasn’t got any bacon for said breakfasts so had dashed out to buy some and at the same time bought us a loaf of bread. We were so thankful and what a lovely kind thing to do. This pub, the landlord and the chap who was doing the cooking was one of the highlights of our trip. Such friendly people, spotlessly clean pub and facilities. Will definitely go back one day. Thank you

We came to this great canal side pub during our holiday on a canal boat as party of four. We moored up one evening and headed to this pub. Well it was simply Devine. The service from the bar and kitchen was second to none. The food was homemade and very very enjoyable. We decided to return on our way back to Whitchurch marina and moor up for the day/night and popped in for lunch and stayed for several hours enjoying beer and wine. Honestly if you are passing through you must stop by this well run and exceptionally friendly pub. Thank you guys.

We used to go here regularly on a Sunday with my Mum and Dad when lunch was £1.99 and incredibly good value. I have been a few times since then usually on route home from Stoke Hospital in times of stress. From the very beginning Martin was there but I was sad to hear the older gentleman who used to greet us in those early days was no longer with us. A beautiful day we sat outside with Nesta from The Racecourse and Ken who used to be our Vet. We ordered our food and drinks and I'm pleased to say all was as was expected and so nice to have Narrowboats passing by regularly. Our dogs Smot ( Border Collie), Teasel (Border Terrier) and our current Boarder Yoshi (Labrador) were all made welcome by everyone there both human and canine the canines being particularly partial to the odd chip. A lovely couple of hours spent in a nice location with good company and victuals.

This is a pub/restaurant, next to the canal, so a lot of the customers are boat people…some on holiday and some who live on their boats permanently. You always get a good welcome, and food is better than the normal pub grub. It has retained its character inside, but on a warm summer evening just relax watching the boats passing by.

We have just returned from a narrow boat holiday, we stopped off at this pub purely by chance and am so glad we did. We were 2 couples, we entered and were greeted by Martin the landlord who showed us to our table, he was so friendly and chatty and the pub felt safe, staff wore masks and there were hand sanitizers, The food was excellent quality and home cooked, my partner ordered the gammon and egg, we also had the fish cake mains and I was not that hungry and ordered the jacket potato, the food was the best we had all week and the deserts, sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble and cheesecake was to die for, if your after a cosy authentic local pub this is a must visit, shout out to Bethan too who was super friendly and a pleasure to talk to, so looking forward to returning next time we are in the area!

Stopped here for a drink whilst on a narrow boat holiday, nice friendly welcome from Martin, the landlord. Good beer I’m told by one of our party! Decided to come back for dinner on our return journey. Once again we were greeted with a friendly welcome and shown to our table (socially distanced from other diners of course) . There was a nice atmosphere as quite a few of the locals were in the bar area having drinks. The menu was very varied and I chose the lasagna which probably wasn’t the best option. One of our party had the gammon which he said was excellent.

My son and I stopped here for dinner on our first night on the canal. We had traveled on our hired Narrowboat from Chirk Marina, and hadn't started until 330 PM. We had stopped for a beer at The Poachers on the way. So it was after 9ish when we moored up for the night about a half mile short of The Narrowboat. After a 10 minute walk, if that, we popped in and asked if he could scare up any food from the kitchen, which had just closed. Being the novices that we were, and not knowing that the Jack Mytton Inn (our first day goal) had closed down, we didn't have any food on board the boat yet. So we were hungry and not looking forward to going to bed on empty stomachs. The owner was more than helpful, and quickly his assistant brought out a couple of meat pies. We washed it down with fine ale, capped off with a glass of whiskey. There were several local regulars there, and they were as friendly as could be. My son and I will always have a fond memory of the Narrowboat, and we highly recommend it. We also stopped there for lunch on the way back later that week, and the food was excellent again. My only caution is that if you are starting from Chirk in the afternoon, you will be under pressure to get that far in time, so don't plan on doing that. Especially if the canal is busy.

Ate here while on a canal boat holiday and glad we did. Not the most attractive place to stop on a canal boat holiday being on the A495 and with pylons and electricity wires overhead but don't be put off. Inside, the pub is well decorated and clean. It is the sort of place where both visitors and locals can frequent with ease. The landlord was great, very friendly and helpful and the food was very good. Food was cooked on premises and to order (see later for how I know). We all (6 of us) enjoyed our meal. Apart from the meal, we had good conversations and banter with some of the locals in the bar, no resentment of outsiders here. When I offered a tip when paying for the meal, the landlord insisted I went into the kitchen to give the tip directly to the lady chef in the kitchen; because this was mid-week and the pub was not crowded, the landlord was the only other member of staff. I was impressed with that. A good place to go if you are on the canal but also, I would think, if you lived in a neighbouring town or village.

As it was quiet and raining and cold we were allowed to bring in the dogs. We had two baskets of the most delicious chips and drinks. I would advise anyone to stop when along the canal. This pub deserves to do well, as it was so welcoming. Its a bit out of the way , but if passing by road or boat stop for some food and a drink. Called for a meal early evening, just after six. Inside its dark and drab lacking in atmosphere. Little taste given to pictures on wall. Gents toilet cubicle had cobwebs hanging down. Place mats particularly awful, I guess an attempted canal theme, but looks Germanic. We ordered three fish and chips which arrived reasonably quickly. Looked good with nice chips and a bit of salad and peas. The fish can only be described as awful. One was sent back as it was uncooked in the centre and cold. The kitchen obviously doesn't use a thermometer sensor! The other two fish were warm but the batter was brown and soaked in what appeared to be old fat. The fish was replaced but no one visited the table to ask if everything was okay. Will certainly not be going back to this establishment and would not recommend it to anyone. The worse meal and the worse value for money in the area.

Popped in here for a lunchtime drink. First impressions were pretty awful. Scruffy carpark that looked like a breakers yard. Went in to get a drink and had to wait quite a while for someone to come and serve us. We asked for Guiness but they didn't have any, or any alternative. Had a bitter which was ok. The canal runs right alongside the pub and there is scope for a really nice beer garden but there were only a few picnic benches randomly sited. The extractors from the kitchen face out towards the seating area so the air was full of the smell of old chip fat. Not very pleasant. I haven't eaten here and judging from the aforementioned chip fat, I don't think I'm going to. With a bit of effort this could be a lovely place to stop for a drink. Sadly the effort isn't being spent.

Have just returned from The Narrowboat after an enjoyable evening. We have recently moved into the area so are trying the local eateries and decided to try here after reading the Undercover restaurant critic in "yattar yattar" magazine! We booked for 7.30 (Saturday night) and arrived a little early. There were only two other couples eating in the restaurant. Our table was reserved and we were greeted and seated by a lovely lady. My first choice (steak) was unavailable but I had chilli and my husband gammon as our mains. Both meals were served hot and were very tasty. What I liked was the portion sizes - not too small but not over the top either. I had a dessert - sticky toffee pudding which was lovely. Although very quiet there was still a lovely atmosphere. Would love to try it during the day when we can take advantage of the canalside view. Good value for money - 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 ciders and a soft drink under £28!!!!! If I have one gripe - real chips please (but this I find a problem in a lot of places!)

My son took me to the Narrowboat for my birthday lunch, we had been before in the summer and had enjoyed our meals so decided to return. So glad we did, we were a little early (time was of the essence), but sat and watched the boats and generally chilled out. We were made very welcome and told to go and sit and the owner would bring our drinks, mine was a perfect gin and tonic just the right amount of ice and lemon. The menu is full of local produce, my son had a starter of chicken slices with salad, we both had steak with the most beautiful onion rings and mushrooms, and chips and peas. Followed by sweet of banana split and sticky toffee pudding these were both perfect. Although we were in a bit of a rush we decided to sit a while longer watching a longboat moor up. Had dinner at this place earlier this week. The place needs an overhaul - the decor is tired and dated, the menu is unimaginative and likely to be the same as it was in the 1980s, food was served with peas and carrots only (!).I suspect it's quite a cash cow due to the canal, so not worth investing in renovations or updates. The young lady who served our table was lovely, and nothing was too much trouble for her, she went out of her way to make our visit pleasant. The other two older members of staff I encountered were gruff and miserable. If you're looking for a decent meal in the area, rather try the Jack Mytton a few minutes along the canal. If you're happy with outdated cheap food, this should do.

I must echo the views of others. A really lovely restaurant spoiled by sparrows landing on the the table where cakes are being cut and on uncleared tables.
