On a whim we booked here for Sunday Lunch. Did not look at any reviews so solely on experience I write this and very glad we went. The sticky Toffee pudding was so delicious, I am still thinking about it. My cousin had the Apple pie which looked delicious too. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. Lovely people. Atmosphere was nice too. I am looking forward to doing the hour long trip to come back!

We didn't have food here but stayed for a couple of drinks. Really good, friendly service at the bar and some great tunes from 80's 90's and beyond by the superb DJ/landlady. Not sure I'll be back up that area in the foreseeable future but if I am I'll definitely be going back to the nags head.

Quirky suburban pub in a residential area with a good live funk/jazz band from time to time. Decent variety of craft beers and lagers and a suitable food menu. The loaded chilli fries and the diavolo pizza were nice. Also has a large (semi-)outdoor area at the back (it may or may not be partially covered) which has vibey lighting.

The food was bland (cottage pie and crab linguine), the service was poor (we stood around for 5 mins on arrival with nobody around until a lady working on a laptop stood up and asked us if she could help..) and slow - we had to ask the waiter 3 times for some water. We used to be regular visitors but will hesitate to come again. We even took the service charge off the bill which is unheard of for us. It’s a lovely pub and the menu looks fab but sadly our experience was not matching our hope.

4 adults for one course lunch, no alcohol, £96. Burgers (×2) were good,, chips were good, but the only vegetarian option of grilled aubergine was poor quality, minimal food at just a half small aubergine per serving (yes we did query it was the mains option) at £16 was very expensive. Whilst convenient place to meet up with friends, we will be finding somewhere more reasonable nearby.

Needed to sort some accommodation out late on and came across what can only be described as a gem! From the moment of checking in, being greeted by Helen (and subsequently Cat and Jess), I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome! Travelling on my own, working away on my birthday - all three made it an evening to remember. The accommodation is, unique? A 6”1’ guy trying to walk through the 5’9” doorway to the en-suite could be a challenge but what do you honestly expect from a 15th Century building. Other than that, it’s clean and as well appointed as you would expect. I’ve since seen reviews about the food, and people are entitled to their opinions - mine is that it was delicious, and I like me food! Not one for giving reviews or going back to the same place twice - this I would, and will. Thank you again

Regrettably this establishment has significantly slipped in its standards since Redcat took over the management from its previously family-owned business. I have stayed regularly - previously very well run and efficient. Now there is no managerial oversight to ensure efficiency and hospitality. Examples: last two occasions that I stayed - staff could not get coffee machine working for breakfast - water or juice only - if machine is not working or waiting for parts, why not have kettle/instant coffee? (suitable apologies from staff; pre-ordered cooked breakfasts not ready at the requested time - evening team did not hand over to morning team (again apologies from staff); archaic payment system for paying for B&B stay (manual input of long card number into laptop - why not use the card machine that's used for paying for drinks/meals?).

I popped in for a quick bite prior to planning a family dinner. With total honesty, there were five cars in the car park including my own. I believe there were a few folk in a wigwam outside..., honestly a wigwam..., arrh bless..., little bit dated nowadays. Ten years ago I guess it was a bit of a trend. I was astonished to find the place absolutely empty and staff sat around, even one sat on the floor..., truly! In typical poor British customer service, not so much as a good evening, how are you but then what can you expect from the younger generation other than a dumb 'dunno'. Instead a question fired from whom I presume a person in authority..., are you staying with us? You tell me! I explained my status to which a reply swiftly followed..., we're full tonight..., honestly, there was not a person in there. Even if the place was full I would never turn away one man for dinner who would probably take no more than thirty mins to check the place out. The choice not to bring the family here has been established. As I was walking out they even had the audacity to say I can stay and have a drink at the bar. Gee thanks but no thanks. Gosh, standards in this country are appalling. What has happened I ask. I don't see much of an alternative than to leave my dear old England to the do-gooders, immigrants and leftwing loonies whilst committing oneself to bluer skies. Sad!

Hadn't been here for a few months and noticed that it's now part of a chain (maybe it always was?) which for some reason I wasn't sure about... but I needn't have worried. The food was really very good. Haddock and chips obviously not a super exciting choice but was very nicely done, great fresh-tasting fish in light crispy batter. The venison was absolutely perfect, tender and full of flavour served alongside a pommes anna which isn't often delivered as well as this. Spiced apple crumble exactly as you'd expect, and none the worse for that. All in all, much better than you might expect from 'pub' food. Also, the service was superb - really efficient and professional, warm and friendly at the same time. We had interaction with three wait staff and every one was great. They're a very young team but as good as you'll find anywhere. So, I highly recommend.

The Nag’s Head could not have been more perfect for our wedding reception. They hosted us and 40 other guests in the Tipee 3 days before Christmas and it was magical. We simply left all our decorations there with a plan for each table and when we walked in as man and wife, it was even more glorious than we had imagined. The team were outstanding. The food was exceptional and was prepared by one of the finest chefs we’ve ever deal with, Jack. His attention to detail, his professionalism and mastery of skill was just outstanding and every single guest at our reception is still talking about how special the food was. The menu featured the strong flavours of red meat, beef and venison, and mussels. As vegetarians we did not have high expectations of the veggie option. We were so wrong! The roasted celeriac, pearl barley and hazelnut main was a powerhouse of earthy, delicious flavours. We had a glass of shiraz and a a glass of sauvignon blanc, which both complemented the main perfectly in their different ways. The apple and plum crumble was freshly cooked and a generous portion. Worth the wait! There are clever details in the food, too, such as the nutty-flavoured cooked butter served with the bread. Staff were all lovely and it's clear that the chefs have skills which can go well beyond grilled steaks and burgers.

I felt compelled to write a review after reading some of the very negative ones below. I obviously can’t speak for anyone else’s experience but we had dinner here last night with some friends. It was the first time I’d been in about 3 years - I used to go very often. It was quiet for a Friday night I thought, and the carpet is truly awful. That’s about where my negative comments end! The staff were absolutely lovely, so friendly and attentive, we even met the chef who was genuinely interested in our experiences. The food was delicious! Definitely a cut above your average pub food - yes it’s pricey - but it really was good. The little ‘nibbles’ were a real joy - the pork belly in hoisin sauce with homemade pickles was honestly the best thing I’d eaten in ages! The fish was exceptional the steak was cooked absolutely perfectly and was brilliant quality. We had delicious wine which was a very reasonable price. The deserts were also yummy. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it as a place for a lovely meal. The toilets were also lovely and very clean and with lovely toiletries - just little tokens of care that show someone is thinking about the experience.
