Nags Head is a cosy, friendly place to stay with good food and great staff. We stay there regularly when visiting family to care for grandchildren.

This is a small traditional English pub, beautifully decorated serving drinks and food. Food is of excellent quality, small but well-thought menu, served with a smile. Service is very attentive and prices are reasonable. Would definitely recommend it.

We held a 90th birthday party and had 65 guests. The event went without a hitch, the manager Melissa and her team went the extra mile and ensured the experience was perfect. The advice on catering was amazing and saved us cost and waste, the hot buffet was enjoyed by everyone, it was delicious. Our gluten allergies were catered for, they even allowed us to bring some of our own wines adding only a small corkage charge. Its a first class great gastro pub and Inn with a brilliant staff, I would not hesitate to book for any type of event. Thank you Melissa and your team for making our day special.

Stayed for a couple of nights recently, over a weekend so was expecting a bit of noise from the bar. The most noise was after the place closed for the night and staff cleared up. The conversation and laughter was that loud I could recite it word for word (guess my room was right over the bar area) and didn't want to turn the TV up too loud and disturb other rooms. Around 23:30 it stopped as they went home. Food in the restaurant was nice, but not much choice on the menu. Portion sizes were quite small so wished I had had a starter. Breakfast was good overall, I assume 2 different breakfast cooks over the weekend as both days the full English was completely different in taste. Still good though. Room was quirky, doorway said mind your head. My shoulders we higher than the top of the door so i had to almost crawl though it. Floors were wonky, walked uphill to the window and downhill to the bathroom. It was cool, got to love an old building. All in all, a pretty good stay.

Just stopped by for 20 mins, for quick drink with my wife. Some creepy cyclist was peering through the bar-window & banging on the door asking for directions, which gave the girls running the bar a bit of a shock - but was the catalyst to a fun conversation. Nice wood fire and amazing service.

Had a few bumps over the last couple of years but I’ve always enjoyed visiting for a beer or meal. However in the last few weeks, my wife and I have been there for a few meals and found the food and service is now terrific again. As locals we love having the Nags Head deliver a quality evening - good value too! cheers!

Late Sunday roast dinner. 6pm booking, very quiet, but guessing we missed the main Sunday roast dinner rush ahd it was a particularly wet and miserable evening. Not been here for a while, but the food never disappoints. I had squid followed by roast beef. Generous portions. Fabulous pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese sides...delicious. We will be back.

We were very disappointed with the Nags Head Sunday roast dinner today. The trio of roast (as advertised on the website) hasn’t been offered in over a year and the pork wasn’t available at 3pm for our booking. The staff were friendly enough but a warm (at best) and small portion roast dinner was underwhelming to say the least… On a positive note, our boys ordered something different and enjoyed their meals and desserts. :(

As a busy working mum, who cooks everyday, I was really looking forward to a Sunday lunch at the Nags and when I booked this morning, I was surprised to see there was a table available at short notice. Unfortunately when we got to the pub, the table was in the Tipi outside. This was not mentioned at the time of the booking, and if it had, I would not have booked the table. There is a fire in the Tipi but in 3degrees outside temperature, does little to heat the 'tent'. Tables were not set and the atmosphere was that of sitting in an outhouse. We had a very nice server, the food unfortunately was not hot, and cooled down very quickly given the temperature in the tent. We ate quickly because of the cold, did not order starters or deserts because we were not comfortable. Its a shame because the food is very good but a dining experience is more than just the food - especially for a mum who cooks for everyone else all week and just wants something nice to eat that she didn't have to make herself. Also my 3 children ages 10 and 12 were still hungry after their children's fish and chips and roast. in future, rather than booking on line, I will call to make sure we are inside and not stuck int he tent.

We have to give a special thank you to Hellen and Ant who went out of their way to make sure my wife and baby were well taken care of. If you’re lucky you can ask for their special lemon and ginger tea which will sooth your soul and leave you craving more of the quintessential cozy inn and English countryside experience. Thank you Nags Head!

We were visiting our daughter for Christmas and stayed overnight on 23rd December. We were greeted by lovely staff whomade sure we knew codes to get up to our room later. The room was very comfortable. Very clean. This morning Helen greeted us at breakfast time and made time to chat with us and make sure we had a lovely breakfast. She ensured that we had an all we wanted. A lovely start to the day. We will certainly stay again.

Sunday lunch was plentiful and delicious. The roast beef wasn’t particularly pink as described but it was very tasty. We finished off lunch with a liquer coffee and that was a little under powered and very weak on the coffee front - however I asked for extra espresso shots and the server accommodated the request. Your recipe for those needs improvement. Overall a very pleasant lunch with good service.

This was our first visit to the Nags Head and we were really impressed. The restaurant was lovely and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We all ordered one of the Sunday roasts and everyone in our party thought their meal was one of the best roasts they had had in a while. The desserts were also worth a mention. This will definitely be one of many visits here I am sure!

Organised to meet our friends here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It is a really beautiful pub from the outside, in a nice setting. It has a teepee outside which looked nice but was unfortunately closed for a private event. And that was all that was good about the pub. We asked for a high chair IN ADVANCE, but they had none available. Being that we had travelled far and had no alternatives we decided to stay with a baby eating on our lap! This was a mistake. They were unapologetic and the service was slow. The menu was different from what was posted online. Some of the food was average, but the Sunday Roast was pretty much inedible, unless you like overcooked tough beef and bland undercooked veg. Having travelled an hour we could not have been more disappointed. Probably deserved one star, but got two based on the fact there is still sadly worse out there. My advice is to skip this one and find a proper gastropub.

We were looking for a pub to go to after a fireworks display and found the Nags head. There were 9 of us and they were really accommodating as some of us wanted food and their kitchen was shutting. The food was great, the service fantastic and they even gave the birthday boy some ice cream and a candle, plus another to share. It was so kind as we'd not booked and had not all eaten. We had a great evening.

A frustrating review to write. The place is lovely, the rooms are really spacious and well equipped, loads of period character, the bed was really comfy and the welcome was really nice by the staff too. The breakfast was superb in the morning! Unfortunately the room we were in was very dusty, the bathroom wasn't all that clean with water marks all over and a heavily stained toilet, the coffee machine was dirty and needed a cleaning cycle running on it, and there was a lot of glass fronted furniture in the room that was cracked or smashed. It's a shame to drop a star as with improved housekeeping it would have been 5 stars and an excellent experience.

Arriving at about 6pm after collecting my granddaughter from school. We entered the place only to be kept waiting while the bar girl deemed it more important to operate the computer system than speak to us. We did get a table. We ordered our drinks followed by the food and then were left there for an hour before the food arrived. No explanation was offered. In the meanwhile later arrivals were being served there food. The food was over valued and pretentious with little content. My meal of salmon consisted of one piece of fish 3 small potatoes a few bits of greens and some sauce to make the large plate look full.( £25). I bought 4 pieces like that in tescos for £9.40. They even added a 10% service charge that I refused to pay. My daugher has use this place several times before and commented that it has gone downhill since the change of ownership. She will not be going back.

Lovely location - staff friendly but I would say the food could have been better - the Yorkshire puddings were dry and tasteless - hardly any gravy - I prefer a little jug to pour myself - the green beans had not seen any hot water - I don’t like them overcooked but they were almost raw - one half carrot - red cabbage lovely - to say that you are allowed a time for your meal we had to wait longer than I would like for the food - therefore on the whole I thought it too expensive for what it was.

It was our second visit. Our first visit the food was ok but expensive, lamb was tasteless and the wine we wanted with dinner came after we finished eating. We decided to try again tonight and again felt the food was overpriced for what it was and felt the service was terrible. We were left unattended for long periods having to try and catch staff rather than being asked, our dessert order was wrong, our waiter spent half an hour serving friends without checking on us..it's a nice place to go for a drink but we won't come for a meal again.

Visited here for the first time with my family today. Lovely location and had heard good reviews. Upon entering immediately greeted and shown to our pre -booked table. I’ll start with the food - we all had a roast, 2 beef, 1 lamb and 1 vegan. I have to say it was delicious. All of us really enjoyed the meal. Although for the price I would suggest perhaps a little more meat, the beef dishes definitely had a fair bit more than the lamb! Lovely crispy roast potatoes, delicious veg and very tender meat. The service was great from a few of the wait staff - the two gentleman who first served our table and a young lady who very kindly got us some more gravy (twice!) However the waitress who brought the meals to our table was very abrupt and all the plates went down on the table with a thud! No pleasantries and very much felt like we were putting her out. When we asked for the vegan gravy we were told there wasn’t any. It was only when we questioned it that we were brought some. Perhaps this waitress was having a bad day, but it did put a bit of a damper on a family meal, and this is not cheap pub grub. There’s one thing being busy and apologising for wait times etc, but rudeness at the table does not make you want to return. Shame really as so many positives.

My friend and I had lunch at the Nags Head yesterday and are returning customers. We found a lovely table beneath the wisteria area in the spacious garden. As it was so hot we eschewed the main courses and decided to share some of the small plates. We ordered the tomato salad, the croquettes and the bruschetta. The single piece of bruschetta was fine; but the salad was in a ramekin sized bowl and there were only 3 croquettes ( which were tasty nonetheless.) Still hungry, we decided to order the cheeseboard, but that consisted of just one piece of bread ( halved ) and only 3 cheeses; plus pickle and some grapes (?). So we left still hungry and kind of wishing we'd had the fish and chips! The young lad who delivered the food was great but was busy serving behind the bar as well. We received no attention from the waitresses and no offers to bring us more drinks.

Husband and i went there yesterday to celebrate my birthday and oh my.... Ambience was lovely, cozy and relaxed, service was excellent however our foods specially mine was mediocre. I had grilled beef burger with chorizo and it was very very very dry, i was expecting that'll be a juicy burger, like when you give it a big bite the juiceness will just dripping on the plate , unfortunately that didnt happen, however my husband enjoyed his catch of day, which we were puzzled as the waitress said, its trout fish but it came out salmon , good thing it's wild salmon😊. That was delish 🤗We, also ordered a bottle of Malbec red wine from Argentina which helps to complimenting our foods. All in all, Impeccable service ,but food weren't so good. Oh, forgot to mention our soup of the day, it was carrots with grilled peppers. Its just okay.
