Didn't a really enjoyable afternoon there. Nice food nice wine and good Guinness

We had an excellent Sunday lunch here. The food was delicious and the service attentive but not intrusive

Well prepared, quality food in a pleasant country pub.

They couldn't accommodate us any more if they tried. We decided to have my mothers wake here 22nd October and the staff were brilliant, they helped arrange everything and were very kind. The food is lovely and it was so nice to be able to celebrate my mother where we had our last family meal.

Went here for a family event. Lovely old pub without it belonging to a chain. Plenty of places to park, staff friendly. Only had finger buffet, but this wad nicely presented.

Excellent village pub that is kept immaculate inside and out. We enjoyed a really lovely meal that was perfectly cooked. Fresh to order. Dessert was amazing too. Cant wait to go back.

We happened to be a few miles away and thinking about lunch when I remembered the Hit Or Miss from when I was at college around 1980-81 so decided to pop in, have a pint and check the menu. We were very pleased we did. Philip was very welcoming and I was delighted to find that they had Badger Brewery beers. The menu looked interesting and we ordered the truffle arancini, home made foccacia and lamb bonbons as sharing starters, followed by mains of tomahawk pork chop and steak frites. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations and we will certainly return (not waiting another 40 years!). Highly recommended.

I recently visited the Hit or Miss pub in Penn Street, Buckinghamshire (near Beaconsfield), and I was thoroughly impressed. The food is reasonably priced and delicious, offering great value for the quality. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Additionally, the convenience of parking right across the road is a huge plus. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for a meal and a relaxing time. Highly recommended!

Beautiful wisteria covered old style pub in Penn Street. Lovely garden with plenty of tables. Reasonably priced drinks. Staff are friendly. Great place to stop after a walk in the woods. Car park across the road.

Had a lovely lunch with friends for my hubby's birthday.

The food was tasty and very delicious. Their cocktail 😍as well. We went there not booking so they find a way to give as table and great service but the time we went there was a party so we wait longer than 40mn-1hour to get serve. And they forgot to let us know about this waiting time. But otherwise amazing place.

Worst roast ever, the veg was all dried up the cauliflower was brown the potatoes were dehydrated thru being kept warm to long and then reheated ,the gravy was bisto granules with rosemary sprinkled into it nasty ,such a shame .

A wonderful long lunch French onion soup and whitebait Followed by haddock, moules, pork shoulder & chicken caesar With Malva pudding wine & coffee All really well presented seasoned and cooked Staff Eloise & Philip were friendly knowledgeable and helpful Priced better than most places in South Bucks

Great Sunday roast, half chicken, perfectly cooked roast beef or pork. Home made Yorkshire pudding and lovely Cauliflower cheese! Also dogs are welcome.

Impeccable service. Fantastic food and a great real pun atmosphere. Dogs welcome. This was our first time here to try a local walk with our dog and we were made to feel very welcome. I recommend giving it a try. We were going to have a snack but on seeing the food decided to have a full meal.

Used to be great but last couple of times Sunday lunch had been Cold and not to same standard As before ..we've been gang handed and still the food and service was great ..dont know what's happened new chef or been on hols not sure but I hope it changes for better soon As we loved coming here

A beautiful pub, enhanced by the local cricket on match days. A wonderful place for a drink, and the staff were absolutely lovely, very nice and friendly. BUT Unfortunately the food let the side down, avoid anything cooked. Sharing platters were great, but the burgers were horrendous, and it took over an hour and a half for food. Have a drink, but do not eat here if you want a nice meal.

Hard to judge, it was a funeral with a light buffet, sandwiches, finger food etc. All very nice but difficult to judge the pub on this experience. Good location and plenty of parking. Traditional old English pub.

Decent food, we're able to talk and a good evening was had. Would recommend.

The older gentleman was lovely but rest of the staff really seem off. Type of place where when you speak to one staff member the other stop talking and stare at you. The type of spot you feel judged for not being posh it feels. Also had to wait to order due to someone else waiting to order. Never had a place do that but to each their own, ideal if it takes you 30 minutes to pick something off the menu and then another 40 minutes to wait for the food.

We were at a funeral reception.

We had fish and chips. Battered fish ok, but chips were overcooked dark brown instead of golden yellow. My daughter didn't like her burger as it was overcooked. Meal average. This pub used to be a good food for lunch. However, I think the chef had changed as it is not the standard it used to be and for the quality of pub food I think overpriced as charging restaurant prices for lower standard of food cooked. . Service was good and lovely friendly staff.

First visit after a 4k walk. Great food selection depending upon what you are looking for. Drinks, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and soup were consumed for lunch. It was a bit noisy for our table as there was a funeral wake immediately adjacent so difficult for conversation. Will visit again.

Went for a birthday dinner this week. My parents have had excellent meals here in the past. However sadly not this time. The landlord and staff were all lovely, but it was a wet night and it was cold in the dining room. The meals were not great. Over cooked Risotto was barely warm, and didn’t really taste like anything let alone seasoning. And the burger was apparently very over done/dry. The ham, duck egg and chips was ok, but there was no duck egg in sight. Great chips! Sorry to review like this, we were all pretty disappointed with the meals. But will try again I’m sure.

Very expensive potato for tiniest amount of beans. Staff were friendly. But £8.50 for a little jacket potato and it has about 4 teaspoons of beans on it, less than the worst spoons would ever give. Amount of cheese good though.

Great country pub, perfectly located close to the Penn Wood.

Lovely location and the outside space is great. Tables to the left of the bar are reminiscent of eating on an old people’s’ home. Very limited vegetarian/vegan options. Ended up with bag of salt and vinegar crisps and bag of peanuts. Will come here to drink again but not eat.

Easy to book and organise ( and then change! ) arrangements for a special birthday lunch. Lovely food. The highlight was the calves liver for my Mum and the vegetarian risotto was delicious. The desserts were fabulous especially the creme brulee and the sticky toffee pudding. Nicest cappuccino I have ever had in a pub. A proper taste of coffee. I have a very happy family now!! Yh

Friendly staff and great tasting food .

Went in for lunch, the menu looked great and it comes highly recommended. It has a decent sized car park across the road, and the pub is wheelchair accessible. The outside would be lovely in summer as it's a real sunspot, not to worry as they have a large shade as well. While the staff were fantastic, but the food was, well, hit and miss and took ages. The squid starter was very nice, although it might be too peppery for some. While the pork belly was an excellent sized portion and quality meat it was lukewarm at best and the beef burger was not particularly pleasant, but perhaps the seasoning was just not to our taste. The tea was nice, much better than the squirrel around the corner and the sticky toffee pudding was on par. We saw some nice looking sandwiches with chunky chips go to the neighbouring tables so maybe they are a better bet in the future.

Overall really excellent meal. I had sausage and mash which was excellent, and my wife the calves liver, also very good. Service was very very friendly, and really good. Came up from Kent to see relatives and well worth the visit. Thank you.

Love the landlords attitude about customer service and he always tries to accommodate. There were four of us tried the door at about 11.15 one morning after a long walk, and although he was closed, he came to the door and welcomed us made us some fresh coffees. He believes in community and always tries to be helpful. A great place to meet friends for a drink, lunches and dinners. Thank you.

We arranged a wake for a funeral here and it was very good, nice food and friendly staff the only issue was no one could show us how to get the speakers to play the music we had organised. But other than that everything went well.

Would highly recommend this lovely pub for its warm welcome from all the staff, great food and to suit me, a great selection of real ales too

Well what a shame, we decided to go somewhere new for a Sunday roast & was massively disappointed. We arrived on time for my booking received our first drinks very quickly and then had to wait around 1 hour 15 minutes for a cold roast with raw veg and rock solid Yorkshire puddings. We swiftly sent the roasts back and they were simply microwaved and given back as you could see where we had tried the meat, however where it was microwaved it had completed ruined the dinner we then had chewy meat, soggy potatoes & veg (still served with rock solid Yorkshire pudding). Upon receiving the second plate we refused to eat the roasts, a real shame for a beautiful pub in an ideal location.

Give this place a miss! Went for Sunday lunch as they used to sell child size portions to OAPs. When the beef arrived it was sinewy and inedible, couldn't cut it even with a steak knife.

Consistently one of the best pubs in the area. The menu is excellent, and the choice of Sunday roasts are always great. Well located for walkers and people who want to engage in the traditional look walk round the woods with dinner afterwards.

Went at 4.30pm so not very busy. Nice pint and fantastic hanging baskets.

I went, with relatives, for a meal and chat after a family funeral at the nearby Chilterns Crematorium. Booked in advice, with special food requirements for some, it was a friendly, well-organised welcome. I very much hope to go back on a happier occasion and to do justice to their excellent range of real ales.

Very friendly welcome when artived, the gentleman who greeted us was very sweet and patient with my daughter who was deciding on what fruit drink she wished, absolutely amazing chips!! Beautiful garden with the most gorgeous hanging baskets we will definitely be coming back!

Visited this pub for a quick drink with my wife. I've been to better pubs and been to worse. The people on the next table had ordered food which looked good. I don't have any desire to visit again but equally I can't say it was bad. All a bit average in an area where there are lots of good pubs.
