The Mussel Shoal Carlyon in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Fresh as you can get mussels from 1km away- you can see the mussel farm from the beach! Fries were also crispy and excellent quality. Sophie gave us excellent service and we can't wait to return 😍

A day on the beach followed by chowder and chips. Fantastic food. Will definitely call again when back in Cornwall

Really friendly staff and freshly cooked food at a beach location. Well worth the wait for food that is cooked to order and not just churned out en mass. We sampled the full variety on offer and found them all very very good. Peppers padron were great with the wife winning the hot one 😁. The chowder was epic, with plenty of smokey flavour and surprisingly nice spicy kick, no wonder it sells out fast, Beer battered haddock was excellent, calamari and fries great with excellent dressing accompanying, fresh local mussels also very good. Accompanying beers on offer from porthleven micro brewery on tap or in cans are well priced and tasty. Thanks to Martin, Sophie and team at shoals Carlyon bay, St Austell

Really friendly service and the food is great, had the prawn salad and then the squid and chips a week or so later, both so tasty and fresh, highly recommend and the alcoholic drinks selection is cracking to boot! 🍺🥂☀️😃

Food may take 20 minutes to make but it’s worth the wait. Local beer is also nice. Mussels is a must alongside squid. Posted opening hours may not be accurate

Most amazing mussels, so fresh, large and tasty, the staff were so friendly, highly recommend.

Just delicious - my wife had (in her words the best ever!) Mussels and I had the haddock chowder - Aaron (the very friendly and jolly chef who gave us the best, freshly made Aioli with our amazing crispy, stick thin fries), congratulations and thank you... SPECTACULARLY TASTY!! All should try before they close for the season... five stars aren't enough!

Was recommended to visit by a close by camp site we stayed at. We certainly were not let down. Fantastic food with the muscles being sourced from the field in view of where we eat them. Had a couple of well balanced beers in a reusable cup. I shall treasure my cup as a suvineer, we all need to get used to the reuse culture and cudose being bold with this stance, when we come back we'll certainly bring our own along! Thank you, we'll be back!!

Just been on holiday to Carlyon Bay and ate at the The Mussel Shoal three times as the mussels were so delicious, fresh, large and tasty! Generous portion sizes and only farmed in the St Austell Bay. We also tried the fish and chips which was excellent too. Definitely worth a visit. Asthomphere on the beach was great and dining on Friday evening we were able to enjoy the live music too!

What’s the point of a reusable cup that costs ££ but you don’t get your deposit back for a return? A rip off. Bartender told me it was a quid for a cup, not mentioning this is not returnable. The sign on the bar stating that was covered with a bigger sign stating they couldn’t sell any fish that day - so I didn’t see it. The non refundable writing was tiny and wasn’t referenced. Don’t act like you’re saving the planet by using returnable cups then not giving the money back. Absolute con 👎 shameful to be making money off supposedly environmental principles. Edit to reply: I haven’t misunderstood what has happened, I completely understand the concept of reusable cups. Charge £3 and then refund the £3 when they’re brought back to you. Fully covering the cost of the cup, encouraging reuse of said cup, and not annoying customers. Simples!

The best mussels ever from a mussel farm than you can see from the beach. Squid also delicious. Amazing spot at the back of Carlyon Beach.

The food was delicious! We’ve been twice so far during our week’s stay in Cornwall - had mussels, chowder and squid which were all cooked to perfection and with great skill. The attention to detail really elevates this lovely venue and the hashtag #funnotfinedining belies just how good this venue is! Highly recommend and we’re really fussy!

Ordered Mussels & chips & the Squid with chips, both were absolutely stunning! Totally worth the money! Great food & great service, so I will definitely be back.

I'm going all out and saying it was one of the best fish and chips I've had in a very long time. The tartar sauce with capers was amazing! Would recommend and I'll be returning 🐟🍟

The location is wonderful, but the food is quite expensive for what you get. My sister really loved the mussels, but the fish that I ordered didn't have much taste. The chips were thin and salty, which I liked :)

Stopped here by reccomendation and it was perfect, best mussels I've had for a long time and their home made hard seltzer was an absolute winner too.

Love it. Looking forward to coming back next time I'm in Cornwall.
