The Mulberry in Breckland

Really good food, genuine welcome, decently priced. Nice environment. We stayed for pudding and coffee, which is not our normal practice; for us, that says a lot. It’s small, and well managed. This means that when you ask to book, be prepared to not get your preferred time slot; this quality can’t be done if everyone comes in at the same time. Well worth the effort of going for dinner at a different time than your usual. But absolutely book, there wasn’t a spare table in the middle of the evening when we were there.

Simply one of the best restaurants I have been to. The service is excellent, the food is first class and the setting lovely. Well worth visiting Thetford for.

We had dinner here on Saturday 19th October. We have been meaning to try a meal here for a while, not disappointed. The food was excellent, crab cakes, goats cheese croquettes as starters, lamb, fennel and Gorgonzola tart as mains. We shared a panacotta, then shared a cheeseboard. Every dish was great. The welcome and service was perfect, very friendly and attentive but not too much. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

My friends and I have met up annually for 20+ years and when in this area where I live, our dinner at the Mulberry is the highlight of the few days we spend together. Last night didn't disappoint and as I'm disabled Karen the owner met me at the door to aid me using the step and guided me to the table she had arranged to suit my previously discussed additional needs. A complimentary glass of fizz was a welcoming gesture. The menu was exciting and varied, the food freshly cooked to perfection as always...an extensive wine list and very attentive service made this a special night to round off this year's meet up. Karen is an exceptional host and the restaurant an absolute gem and well deserving of its good reputation.

We were blown away by the service and food at The Mulberry from start to finish. We booked in for dinner with family to celebrate my 60th birthday. We contacted the restaurant by email and Karen immediately made us feel confident that we were in safe hands, noting that she had also lived in Maidstone - there was even a courtesy call the morning before our visit. We were greeted on the doorstep by Karen herself, and small complimentary glass of bubbly got us into the mood. Breads and dip as well. Didn't even have to ask for water, yay! Karen and her team were so attentative and easy to talk to, adjusting the fish dish to avoid shellfish allergy. The lamb was delicious, cooked perfectly, same for the chicken, pork and fish. Yummy sweets to follow. Good choice of wines - we had a bottle of organic Italian Red wine that was so smooth. I can't say enough about this restaurant - so friendly, and stunning food. Thank you for making a perfect end to my celebration trip away. Fabulous ❤️

We were on our way to Norfolk on Thursday 26th September. We left home near Basingstoke around 3 pm and by 8 pm we had got as far as Thetford. The rain was torrential, water lying everywhere and the traffic was the worst we had known. We were tired and hungry. Through the dark and the rain my husband spotted The Mulberry but we were not sure it was open. We fell through the door - a soggy mess. Karen’s warm welcome blew us away and although the kitchen had been wiped down she and the chef were happy for us to eat. So kind! We were so relieved. We had really fallen on our feet - the lamb and steak were delicious as was my big glass of Malbec. We left with faith restored in human nature - happy and full to continue our journey to Wells.

The also some home made bread and oil and balsamic vinegar Onto the starters a wide choice and between us we had goats cheese and ham croquettes and crab and crown mushroom cake accompanied with prawns The mains again offered much to choose from and we both had venison loin cooked to personal preference and accompanied by fresh vegetables We both had room for dessert and creme brûlée and cheesecake won the day It was great food with a lovely ambience, setting and building and superb customer service by all of the staff The menu does change but we will be back for this one as still more to try

Just returned from The Mulberry. What an excellent evening! Lovely staff, lovely food, we had the chicken and the liver as main courses. Difficult choice for dessert, lemon tart and raspberry sorbet and dark chocolate with Saville orange brulee. Wow! Fantastic choice of wine. Will definitely be returning. Would thoroughly recommend and good value !

We had a lovely dinner here over the weekend. Well looked after, quick service and amazing food. I had the octopus salad and seafood orecchiette. Menu is seasonal and based on local produce.

I had never been to this restaurant in the 12 years of living in the area. Can now say BIG MISTAKE. Couldn't fault the 3 courses we ate and the drink options good as well We did ask if the menu changed, and we were happy to hear it does every 6 to 8 weeks Can happily say we will be back on a regular basis

We had looked at this restaurant for years. Now for our anniversary today, instead of driving to Norwich through the road works and cou bless miles of diversions, we booked The Mulberry last minute. On arrival we were given the choice of either the conservatory or the dining room to dine in. We chose the conservatory where the door was open to let in some lovely evening breeze. We had a complimentary prosecco which was very pleasant. For dinner I chose the mozzarella and veggie tart and OH had salmon and goat's cheese. Both delicious. For mains I chose the fish platter because after being told about the fish of the day it sounded so wonderful, and it was. My hubby had calves liver and bacon which were sourced locally (Suffolk - close enough). We followed up with affogato and a peach Eton mess. The bar was well stocked and I had a very interesting sparkling wine from Beccles. All in all it was a wonderful evening, relaxed and not at all stuffy. We will be going again.

Absolutely perfect place, the food is amazing and the staff are fantastic. I had only recently complained to my wife that I hadn't found a place that does a good pork chop in over a decade, I saw it on the menu and was blown away, pork chop with peaches and gorgonzola was an absolute revelation. If you are visiting the area or staying at centre parks take the time out to go and visit this place you won't be dissapointed.

Since moving to Norfolk in 2016 this restaurant has remained a firm favourite. Karen and her team are fantastic and so accommodating with my dietary needs. We took a big family group along (10 of us) on the 25th to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and has not stopped talking about how much they loved going there. Thank you again Mulberry for a memorable night with so much delicious food. We'll be back again soon I'm sure <3

The jewel in Thetford crown never disappoints always pleases! It will never let you down it’s at the top always. Visited The Mulberry for a birthday meal with friends who had never been before but we had spoken to them saying how amazing it was! And it was amazing from the decor to the staff to the food and chef and the lovely owner Karen. Once again 5 plus stars from us and our friends. Simply the Best😍

My partner and I cane for dinner here on July 16th. I booked us in the week before and contacted the manager to make sure our dietary requirements could be catered for. Karen, the manager, could not have been more helpful and accommodating. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and given a choice of table. The ambiance of the restaurant was lovely and relaxing and the background music was at a nice, unobtrusive volume and not overpowering like so many places have these days. We were given a complimentary half-glass of Prosecco and some warm bread and oils, which was a lovely touch. Our food was brought to us after only around 10 minutes, which was great, and it was absolutely delicious. We had the mushroom risotto and I had an Eton mess for dessert, which was also scrumptious. There was a great choice of wines available and we were not charged for the water we had alongside our main drinks. There was a really good, friendly atmosphere in the restaurant and I loved that the tables were not all squashed in too close to each other, like in some restaurants. If ever we are staying in the area again (we were on holiday from Nottingham), this will undoubtedly be the first place I will choose to book for dinner again. Great meal this week at this restaurant. Karen was so welcoming and professional. The chef is very talented. Booking a Thursday, instead of perhaps a busy Friday or Saturday, meant we got great service and almost our personal chef.... super! Would definitely book on a Thursday again. Found The Mulberry last week on a walk round the town. Karen was able to accommodate us that evening, and was very impressed - superb food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere Thoroughly recommend a visit

Family party of 13 for a birthday dinner,staying at nearby Centre Parcs Elveden. Food was superb, ( and we eat out a lot!!) Karen our host and her staff could not have made our visit more special. Many thanks for a great night. If you are in the area a must visit, shame we live so far away or we would be regulars.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. My partner and I went there for dinner and a week later booked my birthday there for 6 of us. The menu was to die for, all locally sourced produce and seasonal. The staff were friendly and inviting. I had the seafood medley for my main and it was perfectly cooked...big portions , I could not fault it! If the creme brulee is on the menu then it is a must order! I can't wait to go back!

Our first visit to The Mulberry and we weren’t disappointed. Probably the best meal out we’ve had for a long time - so difficult in finding a restaurant as good as this. Everything was first class - food, service, surroundings. Wonderfully looked after by Karen and the chef is a star. Thank you so very much for a great evening out. Definitely Thetford’s hidden gem. G&S Ps didn’t want to praise too much just in case everyone wanted to go and no room for a return visit 🤣.

A fabulous restaurant with outstanding food . Karen was lovely & informative about surrounding areas which we were hoping to visit. If you only do one thing in Thetford,go to The Mulberry.

I booked over the phone, helpful and polite, called me back immediately after leaving a message, emailed the menu to me a week before attending, I called to let them know what we were having. On arrival very polite and efficient, took us to our table immediately, within a few minutes had water, olive oil and bread delivered to our table. The main meal was ready after about 10 minutes because I pre ordered, the chicken and potatoes were delicious, my wife's lamb was cooked to perfection and the taste was amazing. Excellent tiramisu and apple toffee crumble. I look forward to returning soon, all staff very friendly and service is spot on. Very convenient for the Guildhall and theatre too.

Lovely family owned and run restaurant, the best in Thetford. You get a complimentary small Prosecco on arrival following by complimentary warm bread with Balsamic vinegar and Olive oill. All the food is freshly prepared to order and table orders are done one at a time with great care. Recommended!

Went out for a meal a we were lucky e enough to enjoy a night without kids. Wow!!!! Had the most fantastic fine dining experience. Starters, mains and dessert all 100% for flavour, presentation, quality of produce and portion size. Best meal I haven’t ever eaten and superb ambience as well as very warm and professional service. This is a must on your list if you want a Michelin star meal.

From our extremely warm welcome to the hugs when we left the experience felt more like dinner with family and that’s the highest praise I can give to the team at The Mulberry they made the whole meal special. The food itself was also very very good, I had the fish of the moment and my wife the mushroom risotto with our friends having the steak and the lamb respectively and all were lovely and great quality. As our friends said well worth the 3 hour trip I cannot recommend highly enough and if you get the chance please try it out

Menu was good and unique choices, I had the mussels to start and rabbit for mains and both were delicious, I would highly recommend the food, service and atmosphere was great, I didn't catch the mangers name but she was really pretty, and sorted us all breakfast the following morning, she added to the experience of eating at the mulberry, if you are in Thetford give it a try you won't be disappointed

How remiss of us not having returned since the tail end of Covid probably near 2 years ago This restaurant offers top end service and food. From the initial warm welcome by Karen to the nice touch of a small glass of Prosecco and fist class food and service throughout The restaurant is in a lovely building which has been tastefully renovated retaining some of its original features and really nice interior features and decor. Moving onto the food a good menu choice that seems to change every 2 months We enjoyed sour dough bruschetta with goats curd & bresaola and east coast mussels for starters. For me especially the mussels were excellent and a good sized portion Onto mains we had pan roasted lamb rump bubble & squeak, red wine rosemary infused jus and young cod with baby potatoes, mixed veg and lemon and butter Both again were lovely but this time the lamb won the table vote with so many flavours Onto dessert we had creme brûlée and pecan pie with caramel ice cream. Both nicely finished of our meal We had a lovely bottle of Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the meal The service from Karen and the 2 ladies is attentive but not over bearing, warm and engaging. Karen is happy to make recommendations which we found useful All in all a delightful evening and we would say the food is even better than our previous visit As Arnie said "I'll be back"

If you are in THE THETFORD AREA then you must try this little gem of a restaurant. The Staff are very welcoming and attentive without being intrusive, The Restaurant itself is cosy and very accommodating. The Menu is what you would expect from a quality establishment, 4-5 Choices of Starter , Main and deserts but it caters for all tastes. The food quality is excellent, the portion sizes just right and the wine list is again kept small but comprehensive. The cost I believe is great value for money. I highly recommend this Restaurant if you want somewhere special to celebrate an occasion or just for an excellent evening out.

We met our friends at the Mulberry for dinner at this excellent restaurant,we were early but were showed to a nice corner table and were served a complimentary prosecco while we waited for our friends. We had a starter and main course of which we all had the steak strips with skinny fries with rocket salad and parmesan.Wow it was really really excellent.We also had a desert to follow that was equally as good. Drinks were served throughout and the service was first class and at tentative too. PrIce was very reasonable for high class food,and honestly i could not fault them in any way basically a big 9.5/10 for everything.. We travelled 50 miles for this and it was very well worth it!

Sincerely 5 stars all around. Had our first dinner here on Valentine’s day and thanks to the staff it was more than lovely! The food was flavorful, cooked to perfection and of a selection I haven’t seen in the area which made it more fun and adventurous! I had reached out to the staff as well to help with a surprise I had for the occasion and they helped make this once of a lifetime moment so special for us. Price is very reasonable for the quality of dishes/drinks and we will be back again.

Everytime when we eat at Mulberry Thetford they excell themselves. We go there over 20 years for birthdays, anniversary valentine's day and Christmas. Will not go to any other place. Karin and her staff let you feel so welcome. It is so cosy there.

A fabulous evening celebrating my best friend’s 50th and my husband’s retirement. The food was superb and the staff all wanted to make our evening enjoyable. Karen definitely knows her wine and is an excellent hostess. I would highly recommend a visit.

We met friends here for a meal, the food was delicious. The food is cooked in their kitchens from fresh ingredients and they are happy to accept reasonable changes to a dish. As a vegetarian they made the salad starter without the prosciutto & added a sprinkling of blue cheese which was a lovely touch. All four of us enjoyed what we had from start to finish. I had the mushroom linguine for my main, Hubby had the beef bourguignon, our friends had the steak & the pork and the plates were clean when they were taken away the food had been enjoyed that much. The staff are so pleasant and the atmosphere is so friendly it's a joy to come here.

I highly recommend it, everything is at a high level. I will come back there for sure.

The Mulberry is a great find and definitely worth a repeat visit. We were meeting friends we hadn't seen for years and the setting was just spot on for a relaxed evening of chat, laughter, eating, drinking and catching up. Nothing was too much trouble (i.e. finding out when we arrived we needed a table for 5 not 4 as per our booking), we were very well looked after. The food was superb, could not fault it at all. Highly recommended.

Was a fantastic night, fantastic food served by the best young ladies. Everyone and everything made this a night to remember and will be back.

First time at the mulberry, the service was top notch, the food was excellent, a ballet on the tastebuds, the atmosphere was lovely, plenty of other guests but were unobtrusive, some places you can here ever clink of cutlery on crockery, not here, background music just at the right level so you didnt have to talk loudly, overall it was a great evening out, oh, the wine was good too, the red at room temperature and the while, chilled and crisp. Will be going again.

What can i say but WOW, when we arrived they didn’t have a booking for as our friend who booked it had book a different restaurant, Karen ( lovely lady and very helpful) said she was fully booked and suggested we try one of the pubs, but if they were full let her know a d she would see what she could do. So we went off to said pub when we arrived they weren’t serving food , so i rang Karen and she offered us a table a bit later , thank god she did, The service was fantastic, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was perfect. In all what started as a potential disaster turned out yo be one of the best meals we have had in a long time. As we were leaving Karen gave us all a hug. Thank you Karen and her wonderful team for a perfect night . We will return and i will make sure i book the table the next time 😀

I came over from America for vacation and visited London, Cambridge, and Thetford, and this was by far the best place I dined at. The food was spectacular, but the service was even better. Must visit!

Absolutely delicious, outstanding i was just fascinated. This is hands down some of the best food I've ever had in a restaurant. Tried to book a table but they were fully booked for the night we wanted. Kindly placed on the waiting list in case of a cancellation. Thankfully someone did cancel and we booked our table. From the moment we arrived we felt completely looked after. Beautifully laid out restaurant. Very friendly chatty waitresses greeted us with smiles and explained the superb menu. Given time to choose. Never felt rushed. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lovely and engaging. A large family party was in the conservatory and the waitresses did well to cater for that and us in the dining room. Food choices were lovely making it difficult to choose! Ingredients were very flavoursome and cooked to perfection. A beautiful little restaurant which seems slightly out of place within the area but wow, what a delight! So thankful to have reserved a table and experienced such lovely food and service! We were in the area for only a few days but if we ever pass this way again we will definitely revisit.
