Wonderfully atmospheric pub. Proper old English place with very friendly local folks, and top class bar staff. Several small seating areas, this place is a gem. Great kept beer, many events laid on, outside seating and a car park. Well worth a visit.

Just had a weekend at Riddings and called into 'The Thack'. What a lovely welcoming pub this is. Not only are the staff friendly but the locals too. The beer is well kept and a few real ales are available at reasonable prices. If you are in this area seek out Moulders Arms 'The Thack'.

Visited here whilst staying at Ridings Wood Leisure park. Hugely disappointed that we couldn't get a pub meal in the village, but Landlord John offered to let us order takeaway and provide us with cutlery and plates. We arrived at 3.30pm, thinking we would have had a couple of drinks there and then head back for a takeaway..but was told the "Lunch Breakers" band would be performing so decided to stay. We left at 11pm! What a thoroughly brilliant time we had, my friend managed to blag her way to be able to sing with the band and we could not have had a warmer welcome. Huge thanks to Landlord John, both bar staff and the locals for a brilliant night. Highly recommended (as is Mayflower Chinese where we used for food)

17 of us visited while camping locally, the staff were very friendly and not phased by the size of our booking. When we arrived it was clear that they were rushed off their feet but they were still friendly and did their best to accommodate us. The pub was a nice olde world type pub with a thatched front roof, low ceilings and beams and they had a reasonable selection of ales. There weren't a lot of options on the menu and the food was pretty average however the price point reflected this and we felt it was quite good value for money.

We've just spent a week in Riddings at a nearby campsite. The Moulders Arms (The Thack) is about a 10 minute walk up into the village. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel totally welcome. John and his staff were so friendly and accommodating we spent at least part of the day there most days including our last Thursday evening for the quiz. We're coming back in October and this is mainly because of the friendly folk in Riddings. Can't wait to see them again.

We frequently visit this pub with family. I can honestly say the landlord and landlady have done a lot to this pub since taking over to make it great. They offer food - fab Sunday lunches, curry & pie. As well as a selection of other meals. They also do sandwiches, hot meat cobs, pork pie boards etc. They have a great selection of beers, wine and gins. It is a village pub- people who come here expecting table service- go to a restaurant not a local village pub. Unfortunately for those who leave these negative comments you do have to walk a few metres to the bar to place your order! I have never witnessed people being “booted off” their tables to another area, it’s a small pub with a small restaurant area, therefore a busier times you do have to sit in the bar or outside it the weather permits to allow others to enjoy a meal! Overall I think this pub is great, the current staff have made vast improvements and nothing is too much trouble. Ignore the negative comments as it’s not a true reflection of this place.

Visited whilst staying locally and had a thoroughly enjoyable visit. The landlord was lovely and took the time to have a chat with us and the staff behind the bar were both very polite and helpful. Menu was big for the small pub, which was a nice surprise - Food was delicious and portions were very generous for the low price we paid. There was a very nice selection of real ales and gins, something for everyone. The pub had an amazing atmosphere, and while it was busy, it didn’t feel like we were unwanted or rushed. It’s a proper village pub and I highly recommend to anyone in the area.

Having read two poor reviews I thought it apt to point out the errors. Firstly the pub is a pub first and foremost, expecting table service in a small local pub is just foolish. The food as they have said is limited in choice, again it is a small pub, offering an extensive menu would be impossible. Also more to the point a small menu allows food to be fresh, unlike many chains. The food is great, Mary the landlady specialises in Asian food, her background. The curries are stunning and the Tom Yum soup is phenomenal. To summarise, if you want a homogenised chain pub offering 50 different food options, it isnt for you. If you want a small though well kept selection of beers and tasty food then it is perfect.

We called to book a table for a family celebration as we were staying nearby, that was our 1st mistake! They booked us a table but on arrival we were shown to a pokey little dark room with 4 tables and had to rearrange furniture before we could even sit down. After 20 minutes it was clear we were expected to visit the bar ourselves to order our drinks and were faced with a disappointing selection of ales and lagers. Then it really got interesting because the menu was laughable with just 3 'specials' (which weren't unless you haven't been outside for years) and a further offering of their perception of pub classics! No starters were available other than soup and something else which was so dismal I've already forgotten. We all sat there in silence staring at our options for what seemed like an eternity before we begrudgingly settled on the pasta bolognese, homemade curry and Singapore noodles. As soon as the 1st person in our party had finished their plate was whipped away and we noticed the waitress peeping round the corner waiting to remove the rest before everyone else had finished. I ended up eating alone as I was the last to finish and the table had been emptied of all plates etc. The waitress was nervously watching me and when I popped to the bar to order my own drink again I returned to find that I had apparently finished? The owner came over and tried to pass the time of day and hilariously told us how the noodle special contained the wrong noodles as they'd ran out so he'd had to pop out for substitutes but when we said we didn't want deserts we were asked to settle up at the bar immediately. We were ushered out and they were setting up the table before we had even left. I asked where we were expected to sit and we were shown outside to a dismal back room with saggy chairs and over flowing ash trays. The room stank of stale smoke and as non smokers this wasnt acceptable so when the owner came in I told him how we felt shoe horned out of the restaurant before we had finished and we were still spending money but his answer was that his staff had put us on the wrong table so he either upset us or the next booking?? We chose to sit outside in the front carpark (nice touch!) and declined his offer of a round of drinks on him as we all knew it was hot air and we couldn't physically stomach the choices on offer so we just decided to leave. My advice to anyone else would be to avoid, avoid, avoid! We wont be returning - fact!

So we visited the Moulders Arms on Friday 6th September to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We rang a couple of days before and booked a table for 6pm for 6 of us. On arrival, we were shown to our table but then after half an hour it was clear that no-one was coming to take any drink orders so we had to go to the bar ourselves. We then had a further wait until someone came and took our food orders. The menu was very minimal so didn't take long to choose. The food then came out strangely within minutes. We were still eating when staff then tried to clear any empty dishes or half eaten dishes away which we thought rude. We had to say we were still eating. Then the owner came over trying to make small talk and telling us to settle up at the bar to which we said we would like another drink to which he informed us that his staff had put us at the wrong table and we would have to sit elsewhere. He then led us to a room I can only describe as a greenhouse with tatty leather sofas and ash trays everywhere brimming with cigarette butts. It was at this point we told him how rude he was as to usher a family out of there seats while celebrating and still dining. He offered to buy us a drink but we had nowhere to sit so we left. All in all it's fair to say we wont be going back!!!
