The Mossbrook Inn in North East Derbyshire

Ellen never fails. A true professional and stalwart of the Mossbrook for many years. Always happy to help you and makes the Mossbrook a pleasure to visit.

After reading the menu prior to our visit my wife and I were expecting something more than the average pub evening meal. Seven adults dined from the all day menu, three had the beef patty and melted cheese, two had the meat and malbec pie, one cod and fries and one prawn pasta and scallops. Roughly translated, three cheeseburger and chips, two meat pie chips and broccoli, one fish and chips and one spaghetti. The bill was over £170 which included 5 beers and a tip. Here's my tip, don't fall for the fancy menu.go to your local carvery and don't grumble if they charge you £12 per head.

Excellent lunch, the staff were particularly helpful, especially Ellen. Nothing was too much trouble for her. I really recommend this delightful Inn. it was a pleasure.

This wasn’t our first visit to Mossbrook Inn. We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff members. The professional and prompt service only added to the overall cosy and relaxed atmosphere on which we enjoyed a lovely meal.

We went for my wife's birthday and had a fantastic meal with excellent service from Maddi! She made us feel very welcomed and was attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious, well cooked and well presented.

Ah, the Mossbrook Inn. Picture this: it’s a Friday night, the place is buzzing, and my hopes of getting a table without a reservation are about as high as my chances of winning a game of Monopoly against my wife (zero). But, miraculously, they squeezed us in like we were long-lost relatives—they’re already winning points. I ordered the “Dirty Burger,” and let me tell you, it lives up to its name. It’s the kind of burger that makes you question your life choices, like, “Should I really be eating this much cheese?” (Yes, yes you should). It was stacked so high, I felt like I needed climbing gear to get through it. The patty was juicy and I’m pretty sure the burger bun whispered, “Welcome to flavor town,” as I took my first bite. To wash it down, I opted for an Old Fashioned because, you know, I’m classy like that. It was smooth, with just enough kick to remind me that I have responsibilities tomorrow—but not enough to make me care. The service? Absolute legends. Friendly and attentive! If you’re looking for a place that serves heart attacks on a plate and does it with a smile, Mossbrook Inn’s your spot.

A beautifully designed pub - a cosy yet elegant interiors. Amazing menu! Food excellent we were looked after by Rob who went of his way to be super hospitable friendly and made our experience all the better! We will back. Food 10/10 service 10/10

Came in Saturday around 6pm. We were greeted by Robert, from the minute we entered. He was lovely and polite and sat us down and made us feel welcome. Food was great but the service made it all so much better. Thank you!

Very mediocre for somewhere so expensive, was expecting far more for the price. Drinks crazy expensive too, £6.90/pint round here is ludicrous. Won't be in a rush to go back.

The Mossbrook itself is an amazing place. However we were very disappointed with the Filet Steak. It was chewy and fatty, at £31.50 I expected my teeth to sink through it. Won’t order that again.

This was our first visit to the Mossbrook, we were passing and thought we'd take a look. It's an appealing looking pub, slightly hidden away from the main road. There's a lovely and spacious seating area stretching across the front, ideal for when we visited. Inside is beautifully presented and there is a more formal dining area at one end. I can imagine this is very popular in the evening. We hadn't planned for food so just picked a started and a few sides from the all day menu. The goats cheese starter was lovely. The service was really good, easy to order and quicker than we expected given it was reasonably busy. A really nice discovery and we'll certainly be back to explore the menu further.

First time visit . Very impressed by the look and atmosphere of the Mossbrook . The food was excellent and there was a good choice for those in the group who were vegetarians. Music was playing…thankfully quietly in the background , so we were able to enjoy our conversation. The waitress was perfect…friendly , helpful and efficient. Another visit will no doubt follow.

We had an amazing date night here, the food, service and cocktails were all absolutely top class. Yes it's a little on the higher price side, but as everything these days if you want quality food and fantastic surroundings you need to pay a premium for it. We will return for our next special night ☺️

Had dinner lamb stakes and mashed potatoes, taste wise it's top-notch but very poor quantity made bit disappointed. Most of the desserts were sold out or out of stock.Nice atmosphere and service though.

We had a really nice time. The decor is beautiful and the tables are reasonably spaced apart (I hate when restaurants put the tables too close together). Food was 10 out of 10. Some slight improvements- I asked for another round of drinks and was given an alcoholic cider (my original was non alcoholic) I hadn’t noticed until I’d taken a drink. For some people this could have been a serious problem (i.e. recovering alcoholic, religious person etc). I asked for it to be swapped which they did however they charged me for the alcoholic one which was a little more expensive (I hadn’t realised until I left). Secondly the chocolate bomb sauce wasn’t hot enough. It’s supposed to melt the bomb but it didn’t and lastly the sausage and mash could do with a little more mash.

I was shocked when I ordered a pint of lager. I automatically gave a £5 note thinking that would cover it and they asked me for more money for that 1 pint.😮😲 so wont be going there any time soon. The prices are ridiculous.😡

Always bring my Mum here for a treat. The food is excellent and the staff are so lovely . Today we had Lisa , Ellison and Chef G and Jake look after us. My mum has mobility issues and we always ask for an accessible table with no issues .

Popped into The Mossbrook on Sunday and to say everything about our visit was brilliant would be an understatement. Main man Matt is just en point with every single detail, nothing is too much trouble. The service, the drinks, the ambience was just bang on. Big thanks too to the chefs on the day Geraint and Joe who went above and beyond regarding our food, many thanks fella's. Just simply 10 outta 10. Can't wait to visit again.

Popped in for lunch on spec. Received a lovely warm welcome from Ellen, who showed us to our table. Nothing was too much trouble & we knew we were in safe hands. Ellen was able to recommend a couple of items from the menu, which we thought showed excellent knowledge & service. We both had the sticky chipotle chicken for starters & it was delicious. The little salad that came with it was fresh to the zing of the chipotle. For mains, my husband had the Steak & Malbec pie, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the rib eye steak cooked medium. I thought it was sublime. Beautifully cooked & the best steak I've had, beating by far steaks at Miller & Carter! Compliments to Geraint (Chef G). We've been many times & have never had a bad meal & always had a lovely experience. Would thoroughly recommend

We booked a meal at the Mossbrook immediately after a gender scan as we wanted to make sure that finding out was as special as it could be. We kept this a huge secret until arriving at the Mossbrook and asked the team to help us in revealing our babys gender. The staff at the mossbrook were so accommodating, not only in achieving our thoughts and wishes but they all got so excited for us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. That night couldn’t have been more perfect! The good was amazing, my husband and I ate big pis fiends and the steak and malbec pie is one to write home about. It was beautiful!!!! The food is great and for that alone we will be returning. Every single member of staff accommodated a wonderful reveal for us and made it so so special for us and we will be forever thankful and grateful of their efforts, care, enthusiasm and wonderful service. Sunday lunch! portion size is terrible no mash. A table spoon of mixed veg. 2 roast potatoes. 3 carrots. A Yorkshire pudding. 2 small slices of beef & gravy. Served heaped in a pile £21.95 Service is lovely 5 star....The place is very nice 5 star but stingy portions for the money.

Beautiful surroundings, great staff, excellent food. Love the small plate starters. We rarely have starters because too much and we can't eat our mains, but 2 small plates were just perfect. Good selection across all courses. Quality and taste perfect. As it was mid week took advantage of the 2 cocktails for £15. Staff had taken note it was our anniversary and congratulated us (a complimentary drink would have been nice). We weren't rushed and enjoyed time between our main and dessert.

Excellent food as always here. Sunday roast is a little on the high price and £1.80 for a splash of lemonade in some wine also seems a little steep but overall lovely experience.

There was 6 of us booked for 6pm.it was bank hol Sunday so there was load music/dj unbar which was so loud,think we'd have booked a different day if we had known.We all ordered roasts, the food took 45mins to arrive which felt along time however it did not disappoint when it did, we all had different meat and it was cooked to perfection, would highly recommend. We had a lovely, polite and efficient waitress called Grace, all the staff were extremely busy and seemed good at their jobs coping with the demand.We will be coming back, on a quieter night.

We had 3 courses each, varying dishes and a few cocktails. All were very nice and tasty. Service was very friendly too. Would recommend without a hesitation.

Very nice place, super expensive though, looking at Miller & Carter prices almost, but without their quality. I think £20 for a decent pudding is a tad expensive (the £20 pudding was a three piece affair, that seemed pretty dry so added ice-cream).

We went for a family meal in April and everything about it was poor. None of the food was nice, either over cooked or under seasoned. Steak was terrible, you could just tell it was cheap. Expensive for what it was.

A little pricey, but the food was excellent. We particularly like the trio of desserts.

First off all it took a while to order , I ended up asking for our order to be taken. I had the dirty burger and my mum and brother both has a beef burger and to say its classed as a prime burger the quality was awful. I travel around to lots of different burger places in my spare time so I know a good burger and this wasn't it . For the price it was sub par.

Food wasn’t great , for £189 we expected it to be a lot better than it was so for this reason we won’t be returning

It was my birthday treat with my mum ,sister and brother in law. I had the mushroom starter witch was bland and tasteless. My mum and brother in law had fish and chips andy sister had the sea bass I went for a steak and asked for it med rare it came out almost well-done so I sent it back by the time it came out again the rest of my party had finished my steak was med well but I ate it because I was hungry ...we served by a very icey teenage girl who looked like she didn't want to be there and was more interested in chatting with the other staff Overall the steak was deducted from the bill but we still payed over a hundred pounds ...I get mistakes happen but if a chef can't cook a steak proper..your in trouble ..

Came up to Sheffield having never been here before, thought we'd give the Mossbrook a go and it was really lovely, food was amazing the first time we came so we decided to come again the next day, again the food was excellent and service spot on. Didn't take any photos of the mains but got one of the dessert which was amazing. Think it was Neve & Ellison who served us yesterday and they were both great, had a young lad serve us today and he was equally great, didn't catch his name sadly! Really enjoyed it here thanks guys ☺️

Raging! Visited at lunch for a light bite, ordered the steak bloomer having had this before. Today, however, was absolutely atrocious, the bread was stale & cold (despite being toasted) and 2 measly thumbnail size pieces of quick fry steak on a huge bloomer! 🤢 Literally turned my stomach. Complained and waitress suggested that I try something else, the menu having changed and the portion sizes much smaller! I decided not to bother. I appreciate that we are in the midst of a global economic crisis but todays offering was a joke. We arrived at 11:20am but the doors were still locked. We were told that the kitchen didn’t open while 12, so we decided to wait and bought 4 coffees. Husband had a chicken and pesto sandwich….£29 for 4 coffees & 1 sandwich! Absolute joke, and no real regard that I was sat there without any food on what was supposed to be an enjoyable afternoon out. Waitress/ manager did apologise but it wasn’t authentic. Please, if you are reading this, take your money elsewhere. Lots of better places to eat that don’t try and rip you off and serve you absolute slop dosh. Be interesting to see what Mossbrook respond with.
