The Morning Star in Lincoln

Excellent side street pub just a short walk from Lincoln cathedral. Quite small but had a good selection of ales and clearly a pub frequented by locals as opposed to tourists which is my type of boozer. Initially very busy as rugby had been on telly but we got served promptly and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. Would definitely visit again.

Went for a friend's leaving do, and whilst I'd been past the Morning Star before, I'd never been in. Nice pint, polite service and a very chilled atmosphere. Felt like a very modern (yet traditional) real ale pub. Liked it a lot.

Nice little pub in a very nice area, reflected by the clientelle. Cosy indoors decor. Very much a locals sort of pub (not unwelcoming to strangers, though).

Lovely pub, great selection of ales, nice friendly atmosphere in a handy location a short walk from the cathedral but away from the main tourist routes. Main draw is a superb beer garden, beautiful in sunny weather.

A lovely traditional pub, perhaps the best in the city. Good traditional ales. Often possible to park close by. They no longer offer food so that hasn't been given a rating.

A lovely little gem of a place a short walk to the bail gate. Didn't have food, popped in for a drink in the newly refurbed garden, which was fab! Great view of the cathedral. Service was excellent!

Really impressed with the beer garden - they've worked so hard on it and its comfortable, pretty and got plenty of shade and tables. Reasonabley prices drinks, nice friendly atmosphere at the bar.

Cosy "locals" pub situated on the edge of Lincoln's Cathedral Quarter. A good range of real ales and lagers are available, but sadly, there is no food, apart from the usual bar snacks.

Brilliant homely pub, great beer, great staff, dog friendly!!! and fabulous people who drink there and make you unbelievably welcome... Highly Recommended, just gets better every week don't take my word for it.... pop in and automatically your at home with exceedingly fabulous company and equally fabulous beers, wines, spirits whatever your tipple is nobody does it better!!!.

Really nice pub, with a great outdoors area, mostly undercover, serving a good selection of beers, ciders, wines & soft drinks. The bar staff are great, really liked the table service! 👍🏻 The table service has now ended due to COVID now longer being recognised but, the pub is as good as ever...🍺 I'm afraid to update my review above but, apparently due to a noise complaint the quirky marquee outside has been removed, which is a terrible shame, as this was a lovely area for all to enjoy! The pub is still a great place to enjoy a pint/drink with friends & family though....👍🏻

Great neighbourhood pub not too far from the Cathedral and the Bailgate. Wood burning fire and outdoor heaters ensure a cozy experience in winter. They have a wide variety of wine, gin, and ales available for those who prefer something other than lager. Listed as one of Lincoln's best dog-friendly pubs. The staff are lovely, as are the interior and exterior spaces.

We used to drink there but the regular's language was always loud and obscene. The place just makes you feel uncomfortable. PS/ I used to work on Grimsby docks, I am no prude.

Quiet and comfortable pub just out of the main tourist area. Enjoyed a couple of pints of real ale, proper drinking.

Extremely disappointed and very poor/rude bar staff. Morning Star is usually the first bar we stop at whilst walking into the Bailgate. However, arriving and waiting patiently at the bar to be served, one bar person was busy delivering orders, whilst the other was cleaning the bar taps etc. He kept looking over, but I thought he wasnt serving customers. I was wrong, an elderly women then stood next to us both, in which he walked straight pass my wife and I, and asked what she wanted. Didnt even asked us if we had been served, but he already knew that. We couldnt believe the woman said these are first, absolute disgrace - we left at this point and wont be back.

Great pub fir real ale. Not cheap, but if you want good ale you pay the price sometimes. Always busy so that says something.

A traditional public house with a decent selection of Cask Ale. Just as good is the fact that they do not stock the vastly overpriced Fevertree tonic range but still has Britvic as well as Schweppes at much more reasonable prices. A nice friendly reception in a good clean pub. I would certainly recommend this as a place to visit when in Lincoln. Very close to the Cathedral too.

Great little pub that is obviously well cared for. There is a really good range of 5+ rela ales on offer. The place is clean and tidy, the staff very welcoming, and there is a lovely outside space. While the boards outside state there are views of the cathedral, the current installation of the party tent has blocked the view from the setating area, but this didnt affect us. The toilets were amazing and really clean. Sat in the sunshine in a sheltered spot with a lovely cold drink on a bank holiday weekend - what more can you ask for! We used it every day during our 4-night stay in Lincoln and will certainly visit again when we return!

Called in for a Sunday lunchtime drink. Clean and cosy with pleasant staff.

Waiting a long time for outmr meal today and paid by card but with out a receipt more of a wait and there was only 3 of us waiting

Love this pub. just popped in after the Christmas Market, traditional type with great ale and staff , lovely log fire 🔥 and plenty of beer to choose from. Shame I don't live closer.

5 of us old school friends were visiting Lincoln on a jolly staying 4 nights at the nearby White Hart Hotel and visiting as many great pubs as possible. This is real gem with great beer and excellent service. We had an real laugh trying to get one of their televisions to work as there were important rugby matches on but our technical skills were not up to it. A very pleasant 2 hours in this excellent hostelry! Fully recommend coming here.

A good long standing friend of mine has been singing Morning Stars' praises to me for months. Sadly at the passing of his mother last Sunday, I finally met him there for a quiet drink. I was so impressed by this pub. Clearly someone knows their cellar work, as the pulled beers tasted really fresh and better than the same drinks I've had elsewhere. Good line maintenance! The garden....clearly the owner takes great pride here. Beautiful plants, trees and rockery immaculately kept with plenty of covered and open seating. The young woman who served us was friendly and welcoming, especially as I was not a regular, this was a refreshing change than usually experienced in some Lincoln pubs. Although working alone, and busy, she went out of her way to help me. I had noticed 10 pumpkins in the garden and I wanted to take them when they were no longer needed (seeds for my pet Chipmunks) . She took the time to take my number. By 9am next morning I received a polite text from the owner giving me permission. I am seriously impressed by the service and kindness shown. I have since visited for another drink and to collect these. It was even busier with all rooms fool with happy drinkers. Having a retail business myself, I can be highly critical of staff when out, clearly the pressure was on but the same young woman was there with another and they were so professional and courteous it was noticeable. I am heading back up there this evening. I would highly recommend the Morning Star but I do have one disappointment.. I cant believe I left it for so long before visiting. Well that's entirely MY loss.

This is a great pub, the real ale being very well kept with a decent range to choose from. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, making in our case tourists feel very comfortable, so much so we visited on numerous occasions and loved it.

It's on a backstreet so very few know about it. The only way to make a pub like this work is to sell the best beer in town - and that's what they do!
