Casual restaurant, right on the bank of the canal flowing into Loch Ness. Fast service, clean dining tables, upbeat music. Wide variety of food, a little overpriced but overall a good meal.

Tried to dictate how much to order specifically to us. Like others have said may have issues with families or you will meet your first racist in the north at this shop.

NEVER GO THERE. ABSOLUTE RACIST MANAGER! He literally kicked us out of restaurant because kids wanted to have pizza and we just went for coffee. He said you can only sit if you each order one dish. Absolute waste of our time and ruined our moods.

Very nice restraunt in the small town of Fort Augustus. Extremely good service and pretty good food for what it is. Big menu with lots of options and they have a kids menu if you ask for one. They have nice toilets inside that customers can use.

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The staff was extremely rude and unhelpful. I was shocked at how unprofessional the manager was at this restaurant. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

Pathetic behaviour of MANAGER towards my family . He was extremely rude and intolerant towards our kids enjoying snacks. His disrespectful remarks felt quite embarrassing infront of other people dining-in. I strongly condemn visiting this restaurant ever again . However , one ought to visit them if being disrespected is the only choice !

My experience at this restaurant was beyond terrible. The manager’s behaviour towards families with children was disgustingly rude and unwelcoming. From the moment we stepped in, it felt like we were a nuisance to them. They made snide remarks and extremely rude throughout our stay, creating an incredibly hostile atmosphere. It's appalling that they would treat paying customers, especially families, in such a disrespectful manner. I urge everyone to steer clear of this restaurant unless you enjoy being belittled and mistreated. A complete disgrace to the hospitality industry.

Terrible service. I had an awful experience at this restaurant. The manager was very rude. He singlehandedly ruined our visit at the restaurant. I would definitely never visit again EVER thanks to this horrible little man!

Myself, partner and 3 children are on holiday and went for a wander around the village. The children wanted ice cream and we wanted a drink and something light. After a few other places were full we found this one, there were three tables in use the rest of restaurant was empty, as soon we started to sit at an empty table the owner walked in and asked if we having meals, we said just probably something light, he said if were not having full meals we needed to leave. Very rude don't rate it at all.

Very casual dinning and great location, it's close to the bus tour meeting point. We had a veggie pizza and their fish and chips. Price is reasonable and great portions. We easily could've shared one dish but we wanted to try their pizza because it looked good. It gets busy because of all the tours, so definitely be patient because they are trying their best to bring the food out quickly, which they did! We had plenty of time to dine in and make it to our tour on time. You can dine in or take out. Shout out to our Turkish server (forgot his name but worked for royal caribbean for a long time) he was very friendly and gave us to try their delicious baklava! Highly recommend.

The food is POOR AND EXPENSIVE. For now the worst place in Scotland that I have ever eaten.

We had chicken kebap in this place and probably it was the worst chicken kebap we have ever had. First of all it is not a kebap. It was fried greasy chicken breast cuts with no taste (seriously no marination at all), mushy chips (l have no clue how to manage to cook that way), salad and pita bread. Service was terrible as well. We were told that our time was not long enough for table service and we should get take away. However while we were waiting for our take away people who sat after us were served before us. Overall it was just disappointing and we do not recommend this place.

As a tour guide I see lots of different places. I can honestly say that the staff at the Moorings work hard to make sure that everyone is fed, always with a smile and very friendly. The offering is good value for money in a tourist location, with a good range and scope to sit-in or take away - there are picnic tables outside so you can enjoy your takeaway in comfort. I have had a chip lunch - excellent - and pizza - really fabulous. Having tired other places in Fort Augustus, The Moorings is my first choice.

It's amazing - never before have I had food that looked so good yet tasted so bad. The peas were cold. The macaroni cheese tasted weird - kinda mustardy? And the chips were absosultely terrible. They were cold, chewy, and greasy. The other two people I was with had similar experiences with their food. There are only 3 explantions for good reviews for this place: 1) They're fake 2) The reviewer doesn't have taste buds 3) The reviewer got lucky and ordered one of the edible items on the menu, assuming there are any

Chicken kebab was completely average. Dry chicken. The bbq pizza was also broken. The chicken there was very dry.

Horrible burger. Super unorganised. Pretty sure they still run the business because they are one of not many restaurants in the area. Pizza was not too bad but despite having 2 size options they make you the order bigger one.

The food was just marvellous. I don’t know how else to describe it. I was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Also the food comes very quickly. So it was simply really fabulous. I think everyone should try it.

One of the only restaurants open in the area that time I visited Loch Ness but it did not disappoint. The servings were massive. Price was very justified and there are take away options as well.

Ken and his colleagues are so friendly and helpful. The food is simple but is very good value and very tasty. My kids 3 & 7 were made to feel so welcome and special and the atmosphere was relaxed. Would highly recommend for families.

In 2022 My friends and I stopped here on a day out to Loch Ness. I forgot to write a review but we all enjoyed the food here very much. The food and service was so good we came back in January 2024 where the food and service was still amazing! They do their own Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 take with Haggis Pizza 🍕 and you get a lot of pizza for your money too. It’s a great road trip style diner for a Scotland road trip adventure! Highly recommended place from a road trip experience.

Overpriced crap food that is deep fried within an inch of its life. The owner and waiters also like to spend their time talking to any young girl that walks in. Put it this way, I wouldn’t let my teenage daughters in there without adult supervision.

Haggis pudding fried to within an inch of its life. Burnt on the outside. Waiter service was extremely abrupt and the man I presume was the owner was swanning about chatting to any young female he could. The other waiter also made a beeline for any young girl he could see. Luckily I’m a 42 year old, so was of little interest to them. If I’d been 15, it would probably have been a different matter. Put it this way, I wouldn’t let my teenage daughters in there without an adult. The creepy attitude really did not leave a good impression. The cafe is a mish mash of all sort. There’s everything from African tribal masks, sombreros and painted French scenes adorning the walls and the menu is just the same - far too much choice for a couple of cooks to execute well and reading the other reviews, this shows. I’m also a chef so have a basic idea of what works and what doesn’t and this really wasn’t. If there had been anywhere else open, I’d have gone there. As it happened, I was waiting for the time I could check into my B&B but in hindsight, I should have got a meal deal at the local spar. Just awaiting a night of sitting on the porcelain throne.

One of the few restaurants open. Very busy that day - but everything was on the table quickly. Not gourmet cuisine, but still delicious.

This restaurant is just located opposite of Loch Ness cruise terminal. It's good to take a quick lunch here if rushing for a cruise ride. We were having lunch here. We reached 12:10pm. Food served 12:30pm. Our cruise at 12:45pm. Just in time Roasted half chicken was delicious. Juicy and crispy. Roasted so well. 4 stars Onion rings was done wonderfully. But a bit pricey. 3 stars

Truly an awful experience. The service was rude, the food bland, and in the end, I’m writing this review because they refused to let us leave at different times than everyone at our table, even though we were paying separately.

We wanted to drink some coffee but were told to leave if we were not going to eat anything. It was the only open restaurant in the village on Boxing Day and it was freezing cold outside. It was not extremely busy at the moment and plenty of tables were empty. The toilets (which I used while my partner tried to order) were absolutely disgusting. No toiletpaper or paper towels. Pee everywere. Just go somewere else if you have the chance.

The location is very nice and close to the viewpoint. It was raining and windy day to have a lunch as a good timing. This restaurant is a casual and relaxed restaurant good to have simple food and drinks. Don't expect too much but portions are good. Highly recommend to try fish and chips. The prices are acceptable. The staff are very nice, friendly and helpful.

I had the pleasure of lunch at The Moorings Restaurant on Christmas Day, and it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Despite it being a holiday, they had a full staff working, and the service was exceptionally warm and attentive. I ordered the fish and chips, and I must say, The portion size was incredibly generous, and every bite was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Thank you, Moorings Restaurant, for making my Christmas lunch so enjoyable. Highly recommended!

The service was quick and the server was friendly. However the majority of the fish was just batter, the salad that came with it was not fresh and the peas were still hard. I felt very ripped off… it wasn’t edible

How to start the tale of despair that was this dinner? It cannot be understated how incredibly uncomfortable the experience myself and the group I travelled here had during our dinner. The person, who constantly and loudly identified themselves as the owner of the establishment, apparently could not keep his hands to himself. The man forced himself on the group at every opportunity and made uncomfortably affectionate and inappropriate physical contact with almost every member of the group, while simultaneously making disgustingly outdated comments regarding women. The meal itself was described as "nothing frozen", "very fresh", but was clearly a seafood mix from a can. To top it off at the end of the meal, this man did everything but blantantly threaten the group with violence if a tip was not left, despite neither the food nor the service deserved one.

We called here for an evening meal on the off chance without booking a table. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered the fish and chips and was absolutely gob smacked at what they presented. The fish was huge! The whole meal was excellent. I will definitely be back next year.

Ordered some spaghetti's and there were horrible somehow because I dont know How can you make them taste that bad without breaking any law .

Don't bother with the place. Some sort of fancy guy bargin through us like we don't exist. The only nice person was the guy who took our order. Never again!!!!!!!!!

Surprisingly busy because there were like 4 places open in the area on a Monday. Wanted to get a takeaway because our tour bus was going to start in 30 mins. The guy at the till was quite uninterested in taking the order. When asked for a chicken burger as well as a veggie burger, was told that it would take 30 mins. Felt more like the guy didn’t want us to order. We said no problem (knowing 30 mins is all we had) and he reluctantly took the order. Another acquaintance went to the order after 15 mins and they were encouraged to order their burger with a different guy at the till saying it would only take 10 mins. The guy that served us (30 mins) was a middle aged guy. The second guy (10 mins) was in fact younger. The food was just like you would get at your typical 2am takeaway but priced as if those were gourmet burgers. Our bus driver/guide rightly said to avoid that place but it looked busy so we went.

Absolutely dreadful food, very poor quality and ridiculously expensive. A glass of diet coke is £3.25! Food prices grossly inflated given the substandard quality and then the staff have the cheek to try and encourage a gratuity at payment. Give this place a miss, they don't deserve to be in business and an embarrassment that this is offered to the hundreds of tourists who visit Fort Augustus each day.

Where to begin. We had limited time to eat because the ferry takes of at 3 pm. I personally ordered the half roasted chicken. It took a while to bring the food put, so we were stressing the whole time over the timing issues. My chicken had been clearly re-fried or something because it was extremely hard on the outside and very dry on the inside. Waiter came only to take our order and the cook brought out our food. When we paid, we were told that tip hadn't been included. Terrible food quality. Just terrible. The worst 20 pounds I've spent in scotland so far. Go across the street to that chinese food place instead. Save your money please!

I would have loved to give this restaurant a better review because the owner is such a lovely, friendly person and the location is very good. However, I had the spaghetti bolognaise and it was not very nice. My husband had a pizza which had a base thicker than the topping. My friend had the BBQ ribs which were grey and tasted like they’d been boiled. Not cheap prices either!

The most DISGUSTING food we have ever ate! We went through the town on our way to Inverness and this restaurant was the only one open on a Tuesday. We reluctantly went in. It’s a dirty mismatch looking place with all the men speaking Turkish and smoking under the canopy. We ordered a pizza $16 and chicken wings $8 for 5 wings. The food came out and the pizza smelled like rotten cheese. It was a frozen pizza with cheese thrown on it. The wings tasted like freezer burn. We complained and they were very rude and told us to bad. We got the check and the waiter said that service is not included so we need to pay $5 more. They have a captive audience because they are the only place open in a very touristy area. AVOID this restaurant! It should be shut down.

Food lacked taste, definitely overpriced and then we were charged a 30% service fee on top. Service did not deserve a 30% tip, it was alright at best. Washrooms were the cherry atop the experience, need to be cleaned desperately. Overall cleanliness of the restaurant was not ideal.

This was a good place to eat such a variation of food styles. The place was clean and pleasant, the staff are polite and friendly. But the portions are way to much.

Tuesday lunch. Staggered at the prices but thought it would be worth it. Served with zero enthusiasm. Truly a very sad looking lunch. Staff smoking in the under shelter dining area. Stuff doesn't cost this much. Just a tourist trap. Please find better elsewhere.

Ordered a takeaway pizza as it looked like a nice restaurant. For context: I am a young female on a solo trip. The three men working were speaking in another language and laughing hysterically when I was ordering. When I asked what was so funny, one if them replied ‘you just look very pretty’. Honestly left feeling very uncomfortable and embarrassed. I would not recommend eating here.

It was a very unpleasant experience. Me and my friends were travelling and walking all day and stopped at Fort Augustus for the evening to find something to eat. Only this place was open for food. First of all, the menu seemed very expensive for what it was. We weren't sure about eating there but fine, we're tired, we want food. We got Spaghetti Bolognese and Nuggets. The spaghetti were swimming in a pool of water, the sauce was not tasting much at all. The nuggets seemed frozen, alongside the half cooked fries. +£45 for 12 frozen nuggets and spaghetti. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

We dropped in for lunch at "the mooring" (august 30) and sat in the open air. It started to rain, so we moved to an outdoor rain proof table. The turkish owner treated us like family. He took time to have a talk with us. We got top quality americano and cappuccino and had delicious tuna sandwiches (4 sandwiches) with chips and salad. Not to much mayonaise or salt. Toilets were clean. We cannot think of anything to improve. Value for money.

One of the best pizza i ever had

£70. Two “mixed seafood pastas” neither of which came with prawns as advertised. Sauce tasted like unadulterated tinned tomato dumped on overcooked tagliatelle. Poorest pasta dish I’ve ever eaten and it was £20 each. Starters were calamari £9.50 and prawn Cervantes £8.50. Calamari was clearly out of the freezer, prawns were better but there were only three. Again, way, way overpriced. I brought the lack of prawns to a waitresses attention who walked away from me, then asked the other waiter for a discount. He obliged and refunded us 5 pounds. £67 for a meal I could’ve made a hundred times better at home for a fraction of the price. To top it off, my other half is now in the campsite toilets being violently sick. it has ruined the last night of our holiday. Clueless staff, clueless kitchen, BUYER BEWARE.

A fuir. Une fois installés nous avons hésité à partir quand on a vu à quel point le site est sale. Par politesse on n’est resté. C’etait très moyen pour un prix lui élevé. 9 livres les 3 bouteilles d’eau de 50 cl. Ça je n’ai pas digéré surtout que nous avions des carafes..

C’est marrant que les avis négatifs ne paraissent pas sinon nous n’y serions pas allés. L’endroit est sale. Nous avons hésité à partir quand nous avons vu l’etat des toilettes et de l’endroit à l’exterieur où nous étions installés. Pour autant la seule que nous n’avons digéré c’est le prix de l’eau 9£les 3 bouteilles de 50 cl. Repas très moyen surgelés sans aucun doute

Es war sehr voll. Wir wurden aber sofort zu einem Tisch gebracht. Die Bestellung wurde zügig aufgenommen. Die Portionen sind riesig. Die Fish und Chips waren sehr lecker und frisch. Man kann im Restaurant essen, aber auch das essen mitnehmen. Nichts zu bemängeln.

Really the worst attempt at a ham sandwich with the lamest salad ever presented. Few gratings of carrot, quarter of a tomato, slice of cucumber and some bits of lettuce. The crisps were nice.
