Warm early evening & nice to sit out but the outside was a mess ashtrays full on the tables & litter, menus, kids crayoning items all over the floor a ketchup bottle (full) left out in the sun, needs a sweep up & tidy round....doesn't take brains just common sense to make the front more appealling, more than 14 empty tables on a warm summer evening (which is rare at the moment) surely it's better for business to keep the place tidy to attract customers... especially right opposite the cinema

I am Gluten free (Coeliac) and Dairy free. This is the second time for lunch here. Chef took amazing trouble to adapt menu so I could eat safely. Loved the flexibility and the brown gluten free bread was gorgeous. (It's usually white and something I wouldn't give to seagulls. Not here though!)

Normally the food is good, but last Sunday at 6.20 pm they had ran out of several items on the menu. Both my wife and daughter chose food that had chips, when their meal came out, there was no chips as per the menu.I complained but by the time the chips came , the food was cold/people finished their meal. My Lasagne was crispy/burnt and my Garlic bread was cremated. We bought 5 meals/drinks which cost over £70, and there was something wrong with them all. Other than 1 young man who was polite and apologetic, the young blond girl serving didn't seem bothered. We will not return to this pub again

Paid over £21 for this dogs dinner and a pint of cider. You'd think that for that amount of money it would be a delicious sunday treat, but you'd be wrong. The potato's and yorkshire pudding were most likely "Aunt Bessies" frozen, tasteless and cold. The turkey seemed re-heated, old and brown around the edge of each slice, the beef rock hard and so chewy it was almost inedible. Macaroni Cheese and Vegetables that tasted burnt and microwaved (burnt the roof of my mouth!) and gravy from granules; the only surprise being the stuffing ball which actually had some taste to it! Only to add to the despair was the footage of football on every television in the place (which I don't usually mind) except that the sound was turned up to such a volume that I left the premises with an actual headache, not to mention the chance of any conversation completely lost. Never again, awful food and atmosphere. Not to mention the unfriendly waitress. If you have any self respect and love of good food The Moor Top in Heaton Moor is to be avoided at all costs.

We have just been to the moor top 1st time since it reopened, I had steak and ale pie my husband had lamb shank, the pie was put in front of me and I actually said wow that looks amazing, however when I cut into it there was lots of gravy 4 pieces of meat very small pieces very thick pastry, I must say the chips and gravy was nice but the pie very very disappointing, when I told the young lady serving us she just giggled, the lamb shank was tough, needless to say we will not be revisiting the moor top, if you go there avoid the pie, I had very expensive chips and gravy 🤨😪

Wonderful improvements since the very competant new owner has turned this previously tired restaurant into a fantastic asset to all age groups. All three of us had a great experience for lunch and dessert today. The interior and the exterior are completely transformed and the staff very helpful. My recent visit to The Moor Top in Heaton Moor was marred by aggressive door staff and abysmal service. Despite ordering drinks, my group and I were rudely rushed to leave, with the door staff repeatedly insisting on closing before the advertised time. Their aggressive behavior escalated when the final bouncer hovered over us as we attempted to finish our drinks, creating a deeply uncomfortable atmosphere. To add insult to injury, the bar staff engaged in argumentative behavior as we exited, displaying a complete lack of professionalism. This was undoubtedly the worst service I've encountered in a pub in the past 20 years. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment if you value good service and a pleasant experience.

Thought we'd try this place for a meal after a visit to the excellent Savoy cinema directly opposite. Gruff service and a limited menu didn't stop us from ordering but after waiting for nearly an hour for our meals with no explanation or apology we decided to cut our losses, pay for our drinks and leave. I'd hoped the extreme wait was down to a one-off problem but no, it's because they "cook it fresh." My advice is to try the Rock Salt Cafe which is fully-licenced and a few doors along; their food is also fresh and the welcome is much warmer.

First of all the good things, and there were a number of good things. The service was pleasant and efficient. There is a large car park at the back, which is quite cheap and very useful in this area. My partner's meal was fine. The portions were large with an impressive collection of vegetables. However, my main meal was tasteless and cool. The pudding I ordered, on the other hand, was scalding hot and crammed into a dish which made it impossible to actually pour the custard over it. The waitress addressed this problem very promptly and helpfully. As an after thought. Could someone abandon the modern fashion for piling food on top of itself? It makes it impossible to see what is there and to eat it in any sensible way. Prices were very reasonable. Perhaps I was just unlucky with what I ordered.

The Sunday roast was overwhelmed by a lot of badly cooked vegetables and the beetroot and goats cheese salad drowning in a sickly white dressing. We booked a table for 8, at 8 hoping for some quality pub food and drinks. Unfortunately, the food was the only quality element of the evening. The service was slow and poor, items on the menu had run out, the doorman was hostile and rude, with members of staff accusing us of leaving without paying when half of the party went for a cigarette after the meal! Made for a thoroughly unpleasant atmosphere, a shame as the food was decent. Will not be visiting again especially given the other quality restaurants in the area.

We went to this pub for a birthday meal, the food was good, drinks were reasonably priced and the actual venue is very clean and nice to sit in with a good outdoor space. However, we won’t be returning due to the weirdly passive aggressive and hostile atmosphere. The waiting staff were inattentive and due to lots of out of stock items on the menu we had to change our order several times, which they seemed put out by, despite not letting us know in the first place that certain things were unavailable. In particular there was a strange scenario in our party of 8 (5 smokers and 3 non-smokers) where after our meal, the 5 smokers went outside, leaving the other friends at the table ordering more drinks, where the door staff accused us of trying to “do a runner” from the table. This was incredibly strange and rude, especially considering we hadn’t all left the table and clearly our belongings were still there, and we all had drinks remaining, and planned to spend the rest of the night at the venue. The door staff also went inside approaching our friends at the table to say “You know you haven’t paid your bill yet?” - This was extremely off putting and I felt very judged for no valid reason. We were not a rowdy group, just having a civilised birthday meal, it seemed really bizarre. The doormen in particular felt very antagonistic and made passing comments which were unprofessional and rude.Very very odd place

The food at the Moor Top has been hit and miss for quite some time now. The Sunday roast is usually very pleasant but other than that they struggle. The starter of French Brown Onion soul was pleasant enough though the crouton was soggy. The main course of Cheese and Onion Pie was very poor indeed. The chips were over cooked and rock hard. The pie crust itself was soggy and when cut into the filling spilled all over the plate - no substance to it whatsoever. As a pub - fantastic. For food - avoid.

Functions work well here. I've enjoyed a birthday celebration, plus trusted them with my mum's funeral reception. My husband loves the real ale here (says they clearly keep their pipes clean) and we both love the French onion soup for lunch. But Sunday lunch both times I've had it was very poor - beef flavourless, veg overcooked, gravy tasteless first time, so tried chicken next - better, but still poor, so we've avoided them for Sunday lunch since. For a family treat we took our teenagers, and 3 of us found our food very disappointing, though apparently the burger and chips was good. They also forgot about our pudding order and so we waited ages for it, then asked again when they admitted their mistake. Generally the staff are fine, though, and it's a bright, clean, spacious venue.

Now, I’ve been here about 10 times since it was refurbished & taken over a few years ago .... & it was ok. But last Sunday, I went with my daughter as I wanted a Sunday Roast close by & knew we’d get in without a booking. I was just expecting average roast that did the job .... but got a real surprise. The roast was TOP NOTCH - great selection of fresh veg, proper roasties & gravy with roast leg of lamb .... delicious! Homemade Yorkshire puds .... Great attentive service & friendly professional young team. Nothing too much trouble & total focus on making sure we had the best experience. Extra gravy boat brought out at my request (sorry but I am from Yorkshire) I wanted a couple of side dishes that weren’t on the Sunday menu but it was also sorted without a fuss. Can’t beat their crisp golden beer battered onion rings .... I’d go back just for those .... All I’d say is, give it a go -especially if you’re local to the Heatons - go!! Don’t overlook this great authentic pub Sunday roast. Success all round !!

A group of 13 of us visited this morning . On arrival at 10.50am I tried to order 3 drinks, but was advised a waitress would come and take our order. Then when a couple more ladies came , we were advised we should go to the bar and order drinks and pay individually. The drinks were ordered at 11.10am and at 11.40am we got drinks which were all barely lukewarm, so these were sent back . It then took another 20minutes to get new drinks- mainly due to other people in the bar area being served as a priority. One of our ladies had to leave before getting a replacement coffee- after paying for it. Although we were not eating I feel that our group of 13 ladies were penalised by only having coffees and not eating, although the total spend was approximately £30.Not once did any of your staff come over an apologise for the wait or cold coffee.

A one course meal of various main courses which were served very slowly so we had to begin eating when served. Some skills of the waiting staff needs to be improved. Staff friendly and courteous.

Went here on Xmas Day.Meal cost £70 per head for 4 courses.Following a glass of bubbly on arrival, first course was soup, which arrived in a tea cup. This contained about three mouthfuls,so not over generous by any stretch, but even less so was the accompanying bread,as there wasn't any! When asked if we could have some,4 small triangles of bread were provided. This would have been ok for two people, but there were five adults in our party,so not even enough bread for a small triangle each! So,we requested more bread, and one,yes one!!,small triangle shaped slice of bread was provided for the person who missed out!.Next the starters,Those of us on pate again had the problem of not enough bread, which was supposed to be ginger, but was more like lemon and had the consistency of cake as it just crumbled and disintegrated!Have to say it was a good size slice of pate, pity most of it ended up in the bin rather than in our stomachs! On to the main course now.The majority of us plumped for "Turkey, with all the trimmings!" I have to say the turkey was nice and there was just about enough. The trimmings consisted of a large Yorkshire pudding-with turkey??,a few roast potatoes, three finger sized slightly roasted parsnips, and 7 or 8 sprouts which were inedible and rock hard.Seriously, you would have been arrested for carrying offensive weapons if the police had caught you with them in your pocket! We also had to ask for extra gravy, which was provided. The desserts were ok,although the cheesecake didn't taste of clementine and whisky which it was supposed to,but was nice anyway. My chocolate brownie with ice cream was a size suitable for my two year old grandson! My son's partner complained about the size of the portions and the fact that we had to ask for extra this and that and we did get a reduction on the cost of the meal, but this was scant compensation for having what should have been a pleasant experience ruined To sum up.our poor experience was not what I would have expected from an establishment trying to gain and maintain a reputation.I spoke to someone from another table who agreed his meal "hadn't been up to scratch!"I don't know if anybody else complained as we did,I suspect not many if any at all,but unless people do,places like this will keep geting away charging exorbitant prices for rubbish.

It was freshly prepared and hot.My wife had the Moor Top Burger and I had the mussels. Both were freshly prepared, well presented and hot. The staff were very attentive, cutlery placed on our table at the appropriate time. The experience was really enjoyable.

We visited for lunch and found the place more like a mother's and toddlers group. We tried to find a corner table out of the way and ordered our food. A group came in and sat near us with babies and we had to endured the shrill voiced toddler, shouting out continually, a crying baby and an iPhone used to play children's songs loudly. It was chaotic and unpleasant. The staff were very friendly, the food satisfactory. The only time I would ever visit this place again is if I needed to find crèche facilities.

A friend and I visited for a light lunch for the first time . We each chose a sandwich which came with either fries or soup . We both opted for the latter but wished we hadn't !!!! It was described as carrot and coriander but unfortunately neither of those ingredients could be identified . Instead there was an overpowering citrus lemon flavour amidst a very watery consistency .Our server asked if we were enjoying our meal to which we replied honestly regarding the soup ....... sandwich was good .No offer of an alternative side was made and no reduction given when the bill came . We won't be dining there again ...... such a shame .

As a regular visitor to The Moortop I have to say that my visit yesterday (25 November) will be my last on a Sunday. My tipple is Chardonnay and at £20 a bottle it is not cheap for a Stockport area pub. What I object to however is that I was drinking the wine in what had seemingly become (and not for the first time) a crèche. There were twelve to fifteen young children, some running around screaming and with no interventions from their parents. This is not what I regard as a place for a quiet Sunday drink.I am sure Mr. Pilling finds the arrangement profitable but I feel sure it will be at the loss of some of his regulars. The policy needs to be rethought.

Visited the Moor Top before a concert with 6 friends. We all had a different main course and everything was amazing. I would definitely return especially as the waiters were so attentive.

We visited The Moor Top on a gorgeous sunny afternoon; the outside space is perfect for soaking up the afternoon/evening sun, with plenty of seating to create a nice atmosphere. We had a selection of light snacks, which were lovely and served quickly, even though it was quite busy. There was an excellent choice of drinks. The staff were really welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be going back!

Absolutely love The MoorTop! The staff are always amazing even when it’s really busy and the food is so good - much more varied than the usual pub menu especially the veggie options. Always good music playing, such a good place to go for a few drinks or to have a bite to eat.

Went for lunch to a place I used to frequent regularly in my late teens and early 20’s and boy has it changed, for the better I’ve got to say. The outdoor area at the front used to be the car park but is now a drinking/dining area. Got a table outside and was attended fairly quickly and with a smile. Ordered drinks and food the drinks arrived quickly and the food was served within a reasonable time, wasn’t in a rush so didn’t time it. When it arrived it was ok it was pub food so wasn’t expecting gourmet presentation but it was fine. Only saw the interior when I paid the bill it was light and airy much different than it used to be almost 40 years ago.Overall a nice place and I would imagine it gets very busy at night and weekends, I went mid week between 12 and 2 in the afternoon.

Went for Sunday roast, there was a private function being held in the outside area. We ordered drinks and waited 45 mins before asking what happened. It seems they’d just forgotten us. In all fairness, they gave us our drinks for free. But still. Also, dirty restrooms and I couldn’t find a place to change nappies on our little boy. If I’m Heaton Moor, look elsewhere than the Moor Top for food...

Visited on a Saturday evening for a meal with friends. The first thing was the car park, it's pay and display £2 for 3 hours, your £2 is refunded when you order over £5 of drinks. On entering the building we were hit with a cacophony of noise the level was ear splitting ! Just people having to shout to be heard, each person shouting louder than the other. We had reserved a table and was shown into another room away from the main area, again everyone was shouting to be heard, at this point we wanted to leave but as we were in company we stayed , that was the BIG mistake. The menu was very poor with hardly any choice, the soup of the day was Potato Soup, WHAT? didn't the poor people of the Victorian era live on that ?The waiter service was so slow we waited 15 mins for our first drink our second drink during the meal never arrived at all. The food was very mediocre so much so we would never go again. In observation of the whole place, it seemed to us that there was no one person in charge of the staff, and boy did it show, behind the bar area was awash with spilt drinks and water An accident waiting to happen. The gents toilet floor was covered in liquid of some sort? with a bucket under one of the urinals which was overflowing...All our company were of the same opinionA night we never want to repeat

Lunch consisted of steak and chips and for another chips and a portion of curry sauce, an orange juice and a tap water. Came to £30. Steak was far from fresh, meat was poorly cooked. Each of us felt that the portions of chips were quite small for the price. Curry sauce had a perfume taste to it. Place itself is very nice and the staff are great but food is over priced for the sizes and we both felt ill the next day, but putting it down to the ice in our drinks. Much better off going across the road to the chippy.

Really nice inside and outside since it’s been done up. The food was nice, but my vegetables were cold, I ate the rest of my food because I was hungry and left the veg and told the waitress they were cold, I was disappointed that they didn’t knock any money off the bill.

I have been here nearly every week for the past month whilst staying with my son .We have enjoyed all our meals .I was particularly pleased last week when I asked about the size of the portions as I haven't a large appetite. I had a child's main course and dessert ..perfect ! My son loves the steaks .We like going in the area with the booths .The fish and chips are fantastic !

Turned up for a couple of pints and the usual Sunday lunch around 1pm. The pub was hardly busy albeit a few in the beer garden due to the hot weather. Food was over an hour in coming. People sat around me had waited nearly 90 minutes. Excuse was they had a couple of parties booked in !!! n.b. look after your core customers before creaming it on your party business !!Decided I would have a desert to cool off (including my mood) and was told that was over an hour due to the 'parties' (of which none where on site at the time of ordering).

My previous visits to The Moor Top had been pleasant and the food good. However,I went in last Tuesday evening, just for a drink and it was truly awful. One of the staff who I had encountered on other visits seemed to have had a personality transplant and was rude and obnoxious. The other staff were similarly off-hand and just wanted your money as quickly as possible. They had also closed off some areas for their own convenience. Add to this the number of customers in there who were loud and playing drinking games, etc. which made it very unpleasant for everybody else. The management (if they were there) clearly didn't care about any of this.I will really think twice about going here again and will check out the clientelle before I buy a drink!

We are regulars here but such a shame our recent experience was marred by one in the party being served 'half' a fish (clearly a child's portion, it was half the size of the other fish and chips ordered). We mentioned this to the server and still had to pay full price for it. The Dining Club, giving 20% off food Mon to Fri, apparently is only eligible if you book a table 24 hours in advance. Although this is not mentioned on the specific Dining Club web page. Recommendations would be to quality check portion size, clearly state T&Cs on web page and please ensure tables are wiped clean between diners. Sticky tables do not make for a great dining experience. Staff need training on customer service skills and basic table cleaning.

We visited for breakfast this morning & I really wish we hadn’t. Our food arrived & my husband’s food order was wrong. My scrambled egg was runny and undercooked. I advised this was a real concern for me as I’m pregnant. Both meals had to be returned. When my food arrived for the 2nd time, I was advised the chef had heated it up for me! I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Re-heating eggs! Not to mention the toast would have been cold and soggy unless they had re-heated that too! The waiter didn’t seem to see my issue with this but returned it to the kitchen advising they would make me a fresh meal as I had insisted. When it finally arrived again, I think it was a manager or supervisor who served me and he commented “3rd time lucky.” An apology would have been more appropriate. When the bill came there was no gesture of a discount. The two young waiting staff were very polite, friendly and efficient. My concern here is with the management in their approach to customer service and food hygiene. For anyone looking for a great breakfast in the Heatons I highly recommend Feed in Heaton Chapel. Brunch is lovely there.

I held my 70th birthday party/disco/buffet here on Feb. 22nd 2020 and have to say we were extremely impressed, not only with the new décor, since we remembered it as "The Barnhouse", but also with the entire presentation of venue and efficient staff. The choice of both hot and cold food which we had arranged beforehand was also extremely good and exceeded our expectations. We had some lovely comments from our guests regarding the high standard of food. Well done to you all....it was absolutely brilliant and I had a night to remember always !....I highly recommend you.

The place is incredibly friendly and cosy, perfect for a relaxed evening. We did have a small issue with one of the beers (it was the end of the barrel—happens everywhere), but the staff were super supportive and quickly offered us a different beer without any fuss. Their service really made our night, and we'll definitely be back!

Great to return to an old haunt after so many years. Tastefully altered and decorated, fantastic ales, great staff. Hats off Hydes. This visit was with the inclusion of lunch. The brunch was very satisfying along with the chicken burger.
