Booked for a big party, no new hot carvery was put on for us, all the staff were confused about what we'd ordered, even though we'd put in a pre order - they got gluten free things mixed up and weren't sure on if some contained gluten. Drinks were fine. Wouldn't go back.

Have been visiting since the 80s. Food still fantastic. Lack of variety in real ales, but that is probably down to the advertising of the fake foreign lager beers. Still a good, cosy place for a meal, and a drink, especially with the January deal offers.

Shocking. Seating dirty and worn. Table sticky. Menu with food stuck to it. Ordered mixed grill.. didnt have any. So ordered chicken burger.. didnt have any. So i decided not to eat after looking at the carvery. Lame roasties, undercooked. The chap behind the carvery counter was checking food temperature with his fingers! Yourkshire pud looked like roadkill. Ordered a fresh orange juice, it was Yellow? and tasteless, the cheapest carton brand of orange juice ever. Wife had the carvery as she was starving, nibbled at it at best. Gravy was Brownish water. Our table was the one with the Orange juice not drank and the plate of carvery virtually untouched. We 'ate' here a couple of years ago and it was bad then, second chance today while in the area, it hasnt improved. Sorry.. honest opinion from a couple that eat out every Sunday. Go up the road to the Ash lea and sample a world of difference.

First, let me say that christmas day will always be hectic and I tip my hat to those who serve us. We had pre-selected our meals ahead of time for context. We were a large party at the last sitting (4:15) it was immediately apparent that the pub was short-staffed and it was extremely busy. We were shown our table by front of house and drinks were ordered from the bar. By 4:45 we hadnt received any of our starters but agreed to wait. At around 5pm a young girl came over and shouted if we'd had our starters yet, we said no and she stomped off, clearly under pressure. Starters arrived, one was missing but arrived after a quick word once we saw the girl again. One of the starters was cold (soup) but unfortunately there was nobody to advise of this as we could again hardly see any staff, except the the man who showed us our table at arrival and one girl who was serving, both extremely busy. Unsure of how the mains worked, we managed to grab a man's attention to ask who we later found out was the chef. What a lovely man he is! Very generous with meat portions and great with the kids. The food was for the main part was OK, but as this was a carvery set up some of the veg had been out abit too long and was dry, but overall no big complaints. Finally, where it all went a bit wobbly was our desserts. Again as we had pre-selected everything we were assuming these would be served once it was obvious our mains were finished. We were waiting over 40 minutes, and eventhougu we were a big table and the last sitting I think we'd been forgotten about. The table opposite started to complain about something and the overall service, but honestly the man who showed us our table who I could assume is the manager (?) Was clearly fighting for his life and doing his absolute best with minimal staff and a packed pub. We gently nudged about desserts and he said that one of the desserts had run out and apologised. I'm not sure how this can happen when you choose in advance but hey-ho. Another 10 minutes and the pub is starting to clear but still no desserts. Again another gentle nudge and they start to come out, except only half of them do and 5 of us have nothing. The pub is beginning to empty and still waiting, one last nudge and the rest of us are served. We got everything we paid for, the pub was crazy packed. What suffered was the communication but I'm sure this was 100% down to being short staffed. The manager and the chef were outstanding and did the best the job they could overall. Unsure if we'd ever visit again on christmas day unless the staffing issue is addressed as it was clearly a difficult service.

i came in with my family on christmas day it was a really bad experience, the young lad behind the bar was working his hardest as well as the staff on the floor, however the manager was slamming doors and stomping around and shouting at his staff. not professional at all. his staff was trying so hard under the circumstances they was in. i asked to speak to the manager multiple times i asked one of the members of staff to speak to him as she approached he exclaimed that he is busy and never came to speak to us. will not be returning again. would not recommend to friends or family.

Came here on Christmas Day and the planning for it was absolutely shocking. Staff looked like they were almost in tears, carvery half full as kitchen too slow to keep up, waited 45 minutes for our sides, had finished our mains by then so told them to leave it and we left without having our paid for desserts as it had been almost 3 hours since we sat down. The 'main man' was clearly under pressure, being a 'one man show', front of house, taking orders and serving. He stated there was a shortage of staff through "sickness"! This is NO reflection on him personally - but the whole occasion was a very very poor show!!!

On receiving our main meals I noticed that the rump steak on my mixed grill looked a bit dry, I was given a steak knife and this struggled to cut through it, I managed to eat a very small peice but my next peice was full of gristle and I had to stop chewing and put it back on the plate. I tried cutting the rest of the steak, but was unable to as it was very tough and full of more gristle. I informed the waitress when she came to clear the plates and she said she would let the chef know.

We walked in to an arguement between the staff. Not a great first impression. We were told to go to the table and come to the bar when we wanted to order, we were told that they were out of a number of items. No beef on the carvery, no mixed grills or steaks. We decided on steak and ale pie but when we went to order that was also out of stock. I ordered leek and potato soup again that wasn't available. I ended up with the lasagne which wasn't the best the garlic bread was a cheap baguette, not very impressive. My son got a cowboy burger and the bun was badly burnt. The only meal that was ok was my husbands Hunter's Chicken. I get that they were understaffed but the atmosphere wasn't pleasant, no smiles off any of the staff we felt quite unwelcome. Sadly we won't be returning.

We go here 2-3 times a year meeting family. Today was probably the last time we will ever go staff friendly and nice but the food was terrible cold mix grill with a burnt steak despite asking for medium, garden peas you could use to break glass, the sausages where completely tasteless. Another member of the family had steak it was also way over cooked. Where asked if we wanted garden or mushie peas we ended up with the opposite of what we chose. We asked for the burger to be plain it came with everything on it. The place has gone up and down over the years but I won’t be chancing it again I wouldn’t mind but the place was empty so the chef couldn’t have been too busy. Not a meal to enjoy after a 2hr journey anyway.

Sticky tables, unorganised staff, mediocre food with small portions. When we arrived no staff members were around, then when they showed up told them we had a reservation and was told to go to a table which only had 4 seats (we had booked for 5) then was told to sit anywhere. Went to order at the til as weren't sure if it was table service or not. Then another staff member came to take our order even though we had already ordered. Starters were pitifully small and disappointing. Mains were just okay. Waited again for very long time for mains plate to be cleared so went to order desserts at till. We visited at 14:00 on a Sunday afternoon recently for a carvery and found place half empty and nobody queuing for the carvery which was surprising for a Sunday. We ordered a meat and a veggie carvery. Before we went up the large group on the table next too us were complaining with the Manager about the food quality and refusing to pay. We went up for our food. The carvery had a large beef joint, the tail end of a dried up turkey joint and a medium piece of gammon that looked very dried up. On eating we found the beef was so tough it would not cut with serrated knife and the turkey dry and crumbly. The roast potatoes were all totally white and undercooked, the other veg was similar and undercooked and tough. The gravy, in a small gravy boat, was so thick we could turn it upside down. We asked to complain to the Manager. Three other tables complained whilst we were there too. The Manager Stephen, removed our uncooked meals and agreed not to charge us for the mains. He asked if we wanted a dessert but said not to have the sticky toffee pudding as wasnt good and too powdery. He then failed to bring any dessert menus, later saying he forgot. Even though the food and service were awful he was adamant we had to pay £11 for two drinks and said to the others complaining and to us that we should put a bad review on to improve their service. A strange thing for a Manager to do rather than resolving it himself. All the food should have been removed and replaced but was left on the servery. Worst dining experience I can remember....avoid.

Have been going on and off here for 30 odd years, yesterday was a celebration lunch for my birthday. Was with a couple of friends who were equally as extremely disappointed as I was. The server was very good under difficult circumstances. Had been in April and was very satisfied but the menu had changed since then, not for the better. Two of us ordered the mixed grill only to be told that there were no mushrooms or onion rings-what!! A mixed grill without them, stated on the menu. The chicken looked as though it had been steamed and not grilled, plus no chips, only French fries.Overall not a good experience and it will be a good while before we visit again- if ever, which is a great shame.

I got steak and guineas pie I assumed that I would be getting mashed potatoes instead I got fries to be fair they were going to change the fries to mashed potatoes but I did not want to wait anymore but the one thing that really upset me was my drinks when I arrived my daughter got me a bottle of burgers cider which was ok but before we left I paid over £36 for several drinks which seemed a bit much but the one thing that absolutely disgusted me was when I was drinking the 2nd bottle was the lack of taste I am absolutely sure that the bottle of cider that I was drinking had been opened before either because of a customer or staff mistake and the top had been put back on and this was the reason for how flat this bottled drink was would I go back yes probably but certainly not for overpriced flat drinks

This has been our favourite place for a long time However was shocked when we decided to make the journey today for a meal the place was almost empty the chef said hello ,think he recognised us as we often pop in for a snack in the afternoons,Then a lady brhind the bar shouted, quite rudely as we sat down Have you booked,we never had before, she shouted from the bar we are not taking walk ins. We left and certainly wont be going back.

Not a great experience I ordered Philly cheese steak sandwich, the meat was tough and stringy I just couldn't eat it, still got charged though. Very disappointed 😞 the place was dead which was a surprise as we have been there before and was busy, maybe there's a reason.

Went to Cheshire line as second choice as brezo room closed for the day The food was ok. There were a number of items not available on the menu. Apparently, the menu was new. The pub was almost empty. This did not help the atmosphere. It was Monday and early in the afternoon, so maybe it gets better in the evening. The severs Lisa & tia were friendly, polite, and attentive. The food did come a little slow, put this down to the kitchen.would have given five stars, but for the atmosphere and slow food

There was a new menu and the meals that we chose were quite disappointing. Previously all the food was freshly made and wholesome , which is why we have kept going back. The service from Stephen was excellent as always, but I'm afraid we are NOT impressed with the new menu. Please change it back!

My husband and I, both pensioners, have been going to Cheshire Line for over a year now. We particularly liked the 2 for £20 section of the menu as this meant we could enjoy a meal out without breaking the bank. My husband has a quite restricted diet due to a medical condition and finds it difficult to eat out as most places have set meals that cannot be altered. At Cheshire Line he was able to change things on his menu choice without any problems. We found the staff most accommodating and the food was always fresh and delicious. We decided to eat out on Monday 3rd June and headed off to the Cheshire Line. We noticed a couple of changes as we went in but didn't think too much about it. The manager brought the menus for us to choose our meals and told us that there had been some changes. The 2 for £20 is no longer available and the cheese and onion pie, my husbands favourite, has been removed from the menu. We asked if the chicken tikka masala had been changed and he told us it was not freshly cooked since the brewery had changed the menu. Unfortunately this means my husband cannot eat anything on the new menu so we had to leave and find somewhere else to eat. If the new menu stays we will not be returning which saddens us as we have enjoyed many meals here in the past. I'm sure there will be other people who will stop going, particularly the lunchtime diners now the 2 for £20 has stopped. Unfortunately the website still shows the old menu so anyone checking that before going will certainly be surprised at the changes. I hope that the brewery has a change of mind and reverts back to freshly cooked food and lunchtime discounts. If they do we would definitely go back as we always enjoyed our lunchtime treats there.

We came here in a hurry as we had been let down by the last place we had been in and were in a rush to get food before a cinema booking. The place was busy but the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing.

Only the hot chocolate for me!! 🥰 They forgot to add my marshmallows and it's not the same now they're using synthetic cream. Bring back the fresh cream 😋.

I held my 70th birthday party/disco/buffet here on Feb. 22nd 2020 and have to say we were extremely impressed, not only with the new décor, since we remembered it as "The Barnhouse", but also with the entire presentation of venue and efficient staff. The choice of both hot and cold food which we had arranged beforehand was also extremely good and exceeded our expectations. We had some lovely comments from our guests regarding the high standard of food. Well done to you all....it was absolutely brilliant and I had a night to remember always !....I highly recommend you.
