Went for breakfast with my wife and in-laws. After 25 minutes to take our orders despite the pub being empty the food came. I had the Full Moon. Fried eggs - yolk was hard as leather, no sausage (as the butcher hadn’t been) and the toast wasn’t toast. It was slightly warm bread. A massive pet peeve of mine. My wife had poached eggs on toast. The toast was actually toast, but was so soggy as the wet poached eggs had been sitting on it for too long whilst all other meals were prepared. Yolks were rock solid. Also very rubbery! Not good enough. Sad really - as their evening meals are top notch. Won’t go there for breakfast again.

We popped in for dinner at short notice as a party of eight with a toddler in tow. Staff were welcoming and very accommodating as we muddled our way through starters while choosing mains from the menu as various members of the group entertained the toddler in the nearby playground. The food was great, and the service excellent — staff were adept at gauging attention to the needs of the group as we progressed through a multi-generational family meal. The highlight of the evening was an engaging impromptu local history session as the manager explained some of the pub's architectural features and helped us understand how the building had changed over time to its current state. Friendly, fascinating, and fab — we all had a wonderful evening!

We’ve been meaning to go to the Moon and Mushroom for over two years as we had heard only good things but unfortunately we’re extremely let down today. We went as a family of 6 and what was put in front of us was absolutely diabolical. We ordered Steal and Ale pie with mash, gravy and vegetable - to which there cannot have been a chef in the kitchen but simply a microwave and for the price of said meal, we felt frauded. We ordered two children’s meals, a burger and chips and sausage and chips. The sausage and chips comes with one sausage and some oven cooked french fries - no veg. We did add an extra sausage for £1. I could go on but the oven cooked chips, bisto gravy, mouldy salad and the basic “steak and ale pie” (Practically a fray bentos) was not worth over £100 and ruined a family meal with my parents and siblings from abroad.

Had heard good things about the Moon and Mushroom so decided to try it. Unfortunately our experience was not a good one. I felt very sorry for the waitress, who seemed to be doing everything but we ordered our food and it took 20 minutes for her to come back and tell us that the dish we had ordered was no longer available. During this time, the table next to us had sent two dishes back because they were dry and tough. We decided to cut our losses and went to the Swan in Westfield where we were served quickly and enjoyed a lovely meal. The ladies at the table next to us told us that the regular chef was off that night so I might give it another chance but I won't be rushing back.

I'm happy to be corrected about this, but I do not believe any traditional English pub has ever been called The Moon and Mushroom. Prove me wrong if you can. And that sums up for me the feel of this establishment; manufactured. It's a sort of ersatz Disney version of a country pub. A million plastic twinkly lights and the odd needless candle at 7.30 in a spring evening. The real ale was fine,as it should be at £5.50 a pint. It was odd ordering it as one would order a drink in a restaurant and having it delivered by a charming and very pleasant young lady who I hope has a lovely 18th birthday in a couple of years. She didn't put any ice or lemon in my wife's G&T but she can hardly be blamed for that, adult drinks being so far outside her experience. Both the waitresses coped very well but shouldn't have had to. The food was very mixed. My starter of hummus olives and flatbread was okay. If I had been given my wife's starter of focaccia sticks and garlic mayo I would have sent it back; the focaccia was basically deep fried and tasted of deep fat frier fat. The garlic mayo just tasted of stale garlic. I'm not sure if it was fresh garlic gone stale or whether it was made with garlic granules (I suspect the latter) but it was horrible. The leek and mushroom tart by contrast was very nice, good 😊 pastry, well seasoned and no complaints at all. They were accompanied by the most unpleasant boiled new potatoes I have ever had; really weird in a way I'm struggling to describe, but far faraway from the delicious sweetness of a proper new potato. I did offer some feedback to one of the lovely young servers but it didn't feel right to do so. I came to this establishment with a completely open mind and I'm conscious the tone of this review might suggest otherwise. Not so. But I'm old enough to remember traditional village pubs and I dislike the attempt to commercialise and exploit what they once were. IMHO the Moon and Mushroom is deeply lacking in genuiness and authenticity. The prices are however very adequate. We were also unimpressed by the serving staff ( otherwise unimpeachable) fussing and petting dogs and continuing to serve drinks and food without washing their hands.

This WAS our favourite place of late so booked (via Facebook reserve) for a special last family meal before my son heads off to live abroad. On arrival it was abruptly stated we didn’t have a reservation, it was impossible as it was a Quiz night and they don’t serve dinner on these nights. No warm welcome as advertised! I politely stated that we did have a reservation, and I presented the confirmation email on my mobile. My mobile was then taken to I presume the owner to discuss. Whispers ensued whilst were were left standing at the bar like lemons! No apologies after their internal whispers, just an abrupt take a seat! Had to ask for my mobile back and she disappeared for more whisperings in the kitchen whilst people in the bar were playing musical chairs in front of us making space for us? What an absolute disgrace. We were made to feel completely unwelcome so decided to leave. Can only imagine the ‘service’ or lack of we would have received had we stayed. Mistakes happen, that’s not the reason we will never set foot in the Inn again. It’s the way it was handled, so rude…the four of us were in disbelief! Shame on you, you have let the rest of the team who work so hard on other evenings down. Thanks for making this occasion memorable for all the wrong reasons 😔 Thankfully there are many other wonderful, friendly places to dine in the area.

Having been to the Moon and Mushroom a few times in the past few years (and it was fantastic) I thought I'd pop in for a light bite. I went for the "Fishermans Basket" with a side of bread and butter, and a pint from a local brewery. £17.40(!!!) later I was presented with a plate with some fried fish on, and microwaved bread with cold butter. The lack of thought and presentation was a real shame, £8.95 for it to be thrown on a plate with no care? At least put it in a basket if that's what you're calling it! You can do better than this. Unfortunately, I won't be returning the pub I used to enjoy visiting. Only positive was the pint, which was lovely.

Well that was a memorable evening for all the wrong reasons. You don't expect to have a table booked for 7.30pm and still not to have had you starters at 8.40pm.Our order was not taken until half an hour after we sat down then fifteen minutes after that the waitress returned to inform us our main courses were sold out.Does the so called chef not keep a check when he is running low on items and inform the waitress.Obviously not.The couple on the next table hadn't been for a while and their food ordered before ours hadn't appeared either. They told us the standards had dropped since before Christmas and wouldn't be coming again. We paid for our drinks and left after deciding one and a half hours was too long to wait for food. What a waste of a beautiful pub let down by a chef who obviously can't cope and no apology from your manager.Wont be back.

This was our second time at the Moon and Mushroom. The first had been wonderful but this time not great. The table service was extremely poor, the menu changed three times whilst we sat at the table. We had also been sat in a room just off the bar, the smoke that kept filling the room from what I can only imagine was the kitchen, was horrendous. Several of us suffered with sore eyes and our clothes smelt once we were home. The food was nice, but the portions had got smaller! Extremely upset as we were there for a birthday.

My wife and I ventured out to The Moon & Mushroom in late December, having read good things about the pub online. The food is everything you want from a proper English pub; cooked well and hearty with ‘no frills’ presentation. We had breaded brie to start, then fish and chips and a burger for main. The pub itself is very cute, with low ceilings and pretty lighting, and service was incredibly welcoming. Perfect for a cosy festive lunch.

We have just returned from lunch at The Moon and Mushroom, we were so looking forward to this as had a lovely lunch here in December.our whole family came with us a party of eleven. We sat in the back room which sadly is a little gloomy but hey ho we were a large group.Whilst sitting waiting to order we had three different menus given to us as several items had run out and were unavailable this being Ipm not even late in the day.The actual service was so slow one waitress was excellent but she could not cope with all the tables, the other very young waitress when we asked for tomato sauce for our grandchildren brought out two empty bottles, my son then went to the bar and asked for some more was given a full bottle but not even put in a dish , I certainly do not serve like this at home. The meals were pleasant but ruined by the amount of waiting time and slow service. This a lunch for my husband’s birthday we will certainly not be going back such a shame after a wonderful first experience.

This place really needs to sort itself out. Happy to amend my review if necessary. I went to the pub at 5:30pm on Sunday 1st Oct with my little girl only to be told that they had ran out of food and they stopped serving at 5:30pm. Okay, fair enough, it happens. I then went the following Sunday at 3pm with my family and parents, ordered drinks (upon ordering was told there is no roast beef left). We then went to order to then be told they had ran out of food altogether, the lady actually argued with us when we asked why she didn’t say when we got the drinks. As a local, I’m pretty disappointed. I see signs all over saying it’s under new management. I’m thinking that I don’t want to bike to the pub with my small children just in case they have ran out of food again. Why not just order more food? Running out at 3pm on a Sunday doesn’t give me much faith in the ‘new management’. How many chances do I give the place?

A lovely little pub that I have not visited since the 1990's, when I used to go with my late father, on days off from work. It was good then, and we'd often have lunch there. I went today, (28/08/23), for lunch, as it was my 60th birthday. I had a very good pint of Cider, and an exceptionally good 'all day breakfast', made with really good locally sourced ingredients. The service was excellent, and non-intrusive, and the surroundings of the truly ancient building were as nice as I remember - a tad brighter, but not so as to be annoying. Portion sizes were great, and the meals had by my brother, his partner, and their son, looked top-notch. I love slightly out of the way places like this. Good food, brilliant service, and lovely surroundings. What more does anyone need? Nice one, and thanks for a lovely birthday lunch. 👌👌👌

To begin; if you’re staying near this pub then give it a visit. It’s excellent. After a day of trudging around Ipswich and not seeing anything worth trying for an evening meal we remembered that we had seen a sign advertising the Moon and Mushroom on a main road so we called them and booked for opening time on Friday night. What a lovely little quaint place it is too. The front has seating amidst some lovely greenery which leads to the small front door and the old style ale house interior which I love. It also allowed our little Dachshund in too which was essential to our choice. We were greeted by the very friendly owners and seated immediately by the bar. They serve three local real ales (Earl Soham Brewery) of which the one I tried (Gold) was very nice. They also gave our pooch some treats and made a lovely fuss of him. We selected our food which was absolutely delicious all round. I had a special which was steak and frites with truffle and herb oil. I can very much recommend it as the steak was tender with a very tasty oil (not drowned) throughout. The fish and chips were also a really healthy portion and tasted great (I got a bit of it)! I love nothing better than a really pretty, traditional, comfortable pub that serves great ale, great food at a good price with friendly service in a quiet village setting. This pub ticks every box perfectly.

Went for a lunch time meal with my sisters and our dogs. Very pleasant atmosphere, warm and friendly and we were immediately given our menus. My meal needed to be gluten free which was no problem and I was given several choices. I chose the butternut curry with saffron rice which was very mild but fragrant and I thoroughly enjoyed every morsel. My sister's chose fish and chips and oversized fish fingers sandwich with chips both of which were more than ample portions and equally enjoyable. Only 2 of us had room for desert, I chose profiteroles with chocolate sauce and the other choice was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. We all agreed we would return again soon to try the other options! A bonus was that there was plenty of room in the car park which is shared with the school as it was school holidays and there is a sweet little green area to take the dogs round either before or after the meal weather permitting plus a lovely seperate playground for any children in the party. All round it is a lovely venue and we'll worth a visit

Best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time. The flavours were spot on, the beef cooked perfectly, I would 100% recommend getting the cauliflower cheese as well, it was to die for! Sticky toffee for puds, light and very tasty. I will look forward...

I’ve read some of the reviews and it seems that expectations have a lot to do with the comments. I know what to expect and I like it. If you want slick – don’t go. If you want real - then go. If you want a place where people go because they know each other – then go. I’ve had some good conversations about local events and places with the lady and gentleman who run it. Food and drink are fine – it might not suit everyone to see your breakfast cooked in view. Suits me fine.

Visited Monday and was really happy with our visit. The food was great, it was nice to see something different, there was a lot of effort put into the menu and lots of options. We ordered two soft drinks, the Mexican flatbread and fishfinger wrap, both of which were excellent and very fresh: I wouldn't be surprised if the tartare sauce was made from scratch. We sat outside with our dog and the views were lovely, toilets were clean and staff polite, I couldn't fault anything really. Will return when next in the area.

Popped in with some friends after a local run. Pub pretty busy with people . Service quick and ordered our beers . Chap behind bar , assuming it was the landlord said we could sit out the back . We went out and it was too chilly so came back in . We stood near the bar to be rudely told that he didn’t want us standing there and there was seats around the corner and to go there. Whilst it may seem a little thing , whilst pubs are struggling, local support is what you need . However we had a better experience with the other bar staff , polar opposite . Won’t be popping in again.
