The title says it all. Popular with hikers, climbers and dog walkers. We stayed just one night on our way home from Chatsworth. Will certainly stay again when we are next in the area.

Just back from a wonderful 3 night stay at The Moon. Can only say it was amazing from beginning to end! The welcome and service from Josh and his team was brilliant. They remembered us from our previous stay and made us feel like family. The food was 1st class from a very enthusiastic Chef who delights in making sure everything is OK. Our accommodation had everything we needed and more. If you want a happy cheerful Pub with great food and drinks this is the One! We look forward to going back soon.

Crafty website photos, this is a tired property and the rooms poorly built on a creaky first floor. Cheap fixtures and fittings. Outdoors is a mess. Ate in, which was a disaster - tasteless goo. Comedy breakfast, cheap cereals in plastic containers. £150 for one night b & b is a disgrace. Only highlight, a charming young woman who seemed to be holding the fort. Others seem to have liked the place, go figure. Do your own research!

We were on a whistle stop tour of the area and booked to stay for one night here. The room was fabulous. It was clean with a lovely attention to detail. Unfortunately we didn't have time to stay for dinner in the evening on this occasion which was a shame but we did have an opportunity to have a drink in the bar just before closing and a chat with some very friendly locals. Would love to stay here again if we're in the area as it's perfect for walking in the Hope Valley, using the Monsal Trail and visiting the local area.

The perfect cozy pit stop! I feel more compelled to write a review after reading one which was less favourable. Nestled in a quieter location this inn was perfect after a very wet day nearby walking. The welcome was super friendly. The room (superior) is so big in size and super cozy. They’ve done a great job at refurbishing and I can’t comprehend what there would be to complain about given the very reasonable price. I am travelling solo with my dog and was met with another warm welcome for dinner, right by the fire. The staff were delighted to oblige in serving up the dog sausages and gravy and fresh water, as well as my dinner which was just gorgeous. (Surpassed expectations)! I had game pie. Thank you for making my stay more fab than I expected.

Stayed at the Moon Inn for a couple of nights whilst visiting the Peak District, and what a great find. The pub and staff were all friendly and welcoming. Good selection of beers and wines. The room was cosy, nicely decorated, and very clean. We had dinner both nights in the pub and that wasn't our original plan, but the food was so good we decided to try other dishes on the menu. Will definitely go back again!

Unfortunately, this inn is not very nice. The carpets are worn and dirty. The towels are ragged, threadbare, and dingy. Our bedspread had numerous stains on it. Ick! And the hallway and our room were filled with the smell of a “Plug In” that was overwhelming and made us wonder what the smell they were trying to cover up was. On top of the unpleasantness of the rooms, we were greeted by pub staff that appeared annoyed to have to serve our drinks, and kitchen staff that seemed even more annoyed to have to take our orders, and deliver our food. If it is so cumbersome to provide appealing accommodations, and friendly and helpful pub and restaurant staff, then perhaps this is not the correct industry for the proprietors to pursue.

We stayed at the Moon Inn for two nights in the Nook so-called suite but was in reality an ensuite bedroom. The room was as advertised on their website but the pictures must have been taken when the refurb was just completed as the room was not up to a good standard the bed was comfortable and seemed clean until we turned back the duvet and saw red marks on the underside of the quilt cover we questioned whether it had been washed after the last occupant. There was a fan in the corner, which was thick with dust, the kettle test sticker was three years out of date, and the plug in the basin needed replacing as the spring was broken and did not hold the water. Breakfast could have been a lot better, no fruit or yoghurt, just cereals, and we were asked for £4.00 to cover orange juice on leaving. The breakfast menu is confusing as apparantly bed and breakfast rate means continental but I wasnt told that on booking They took the balance from my credit card a week before we arrived without informing me or advising in their terms that this would happen, which I thought unprofessional. We arrived on a Tuesday to be told that there was no food served Monday and Tuesday, so it was lucky I had booked elsewhere. Think we could have got better value elsewhere and don't think we will stay again

Stayed here on Boxing Day and all staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had an evening meal and breakfast, both were spot on. The beer and wine were good. We did a short walk out to Eyam which was very pleasant. Would be a good base for longer walks. Everything was clean and tidy, we were well looked after. A small negative was that there was no mirror in the bathroom and the tv was a bit small, but neither was a big issue. The room itself was big and warm, as was the bed. Booked here for Bank Holiday Monday was running 5 mins late because of traffic so gave them a call was told it would be OK. The Moon was taking part in the Dine out to help out scheme Arrived ordered drinks at the bar and were told where to sit.The young lady was pleasant and took our order. We had 2 steak pies which should have been £14.95 and I had the sirloin steak which should have been £23.95.The meals came and I couldn't believe my eyes. The pie and veg looked OK but the sirloin steak was disgusting. Please see the photos. I called her across and asked quietly "is this sirloin? " to which she replied yes but I'll go and see if they have a better one. She came back and said they would cook it quickly for me. I was left nibbling my chips, onion rings, mushrooms and tomatoes. The steak that came out was better but I'd eaten most of the other stuff. She did come to see if it was better to which I said yes but I also said the other one should never have left the kitchen. If that steak was going to be £24 they had got a nerve. The pies were thought to be OK but the gravy very runny. We asked for the bill and left. No real apology and nothing knocked off the bill apart from the eat out to help out discount. We won't be returning.

Our third stay at the Moon and we wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else in the area. We normally book an overnight stay at Christmas when we visit Chatsworth, but decided on a two night stay in August as a much needed getaway and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We stayed in the Meadow Suite, and as with the other rooms we have stayed in here, everything was perfect. Immaculately clean, extremely comfortable and well provisioned. We had breakfast and dinner on both days, and as usual the service and quality of food was excellent. A special mention to the lady who waited on us for breakfast on both mornings - she was absolutely lovely and ensured we had everything we needed in our room as Covid-19 guidelines meant daily room refreshing isn’t indicated unless the guests request it. Although we said we would happily sort out our own replacement milk to save her a job, she left us some regardless. We love the Moon Inn and will of course be returning. On the subject of facilities and safety during the current pandemic, the Moon has rigorous measures in place for your safety that do not affect your stay in any way. We had a lovely time!

Our table was kindly reserved by the fire after we had been out walking all day and were stopping the night. Nice ambience inside and a little larger than first thought from the outside. Food was excellent and high quality meat within the very filling steak pie and tender meat, with awesome pastry. friendly staff, and service, get quite busy here. My wife's smoked haddock morney however very nice was super heated, which meant it could not be eaten for a few mins and the sauce was runny - this thickened later on when the dish had cooled down. Homemade unusual chips, we really liked the peppery swede which was a surprise, vegetables nicely cooked. good choice on the menu, with a specials board. Upon returning for a drink some hours later we personally thought there may be too many lights dotted around, a couple could be removed yet still keep the ambience. Breakfasts also very good.Highly recommended.

It was magic; nice friendly people, efficient service, good beer, and great food. We ate there on Hogmanay and it was really, really good. The old post cards in the gents are hilarious. It is well worth a visit.

I had to try the highly recommended home made steak pie, came with proper home made chips, nicely cooked veg and lashings of gravy. Delightful, washed sown with a pint of one of the handpulled beers. My wife had the chilli, which was also very tasty. Highly recommended.

We ate here on New Year's Eve, last night and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The steak pie was amazing and the desserts were heavenly. Despite the pub being very busy the staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Where other places in the area were quick to say they were full for New Year's when I rang around a few days ago the staff member at the Moon made it clear they would try to fit us in and they came through. This is an outstanding pub and when we return to the area we will definitely dine their again.

We went for a family lunch on New Year’s Day. Everything was fantastic: excellent food including the best pie and chips ever! Also very friendly and attentive staff, and very reasonably priced. Can’t wait to go back!

We had lunch this week at The Moon; we were first in and there were few diners. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and there was a welcoming fire. I opted for the partridge on a bed of pumpkin and garlic mash, my partner had the plaice. Both were excellent and very nicely presented. There is no elegant way to eat a partridge - I just picked it up and ravaged it (I needed a shower after!). This was a seriously good lunch - and the Chardonnay is very good too,

Arrived on a cold December evening with the family. As soon as you walk in it’s a friendly place. Warm and welcoming. Very attentive staff and good ales, oh and Prosecco for the ladies!

We stopped in here for Sunday lunch after the Chatsworth Christmas markets and it was fantastic. This was probably the best roast we have ever had, the service was great and the venue was very welcoming. Toilets were also very clean and modern.

We have eaten here three times now and it's never disappointed us. This was a quick bite as we had a full dinner planned. Sausage sandwich and chips, deliciously "dirty" in a good way!

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
