Absolutely superb quality food from a menu with a fair bit of choice.... not especially expensive either. No particularly recommend Polpette, The Moon Lasagne and Affogato 😋

Went for my son’s 14th birthday, went at lunchtime and was greated with the most hospitable staff, nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing even my son who is a picky eater loved everything, diffidently on our list of places to return to wish we we’re not on holiday and live closer, can’t wait to return.

Absolutely amazing stopped in today for lunch I had a pizza it tasted lovely and was full on flavour and taste was spot on the service was quick and staff were very polite atmosphere was brilliant and gave the Italian atmosphere definitely eating here again.

We went for our sons 14th birthday we walked in to a barking kind women who greeted us and guided us to our table. The atmosphere was top-notch and brilliant lighting. The food was amazing well done 👏 and the starter was delicious as well as the main. Drinks were fresh and it was dog friendly they cared about the dogs and children definitely recommend for a family meal out. Staff were amazing and it wasn’t that expensive .

This is the second time we come here and it’s another round of amazing food and great service. The ambience is also lovely. Great vegetarian options too. We had the burrata salad, the bruschetta, and the penne with tomato sauce and chili oil. Highly recommend!

Just dropped in randomly looking for somewhere to eat, and ‘landed’. Had Nonnas lasagne, then lemon and mascoparne tart, a pint of the ipa beer, and a satisfyingly hot cappuccino, delicious throughout, would highly recommend. Friendly service.

Visited last night called in randomly and was offered a table great atmosphere, excellent food, the Prawn starter with fennel, pomegranate dressing with parmesan fries, Lush, the service brilliant,nothing to much trouble, very reasonably priced a great place to visit , but recommend booking.

Went for my Mum’s 80th. It was perfect. Understated. Stylish Informal. Perfect homemade food. Likely to become our favourite place for evening meals. Love how they have a breakfast bar in the window.. would be good for coffee or wine drinking especially if solo.

Extremely disappointing. Despite being ready in just 20 minutes, the pizza arrived cold and completely lacked flavour. The spinach was watery and bland, and the burrata—meant to be a highlight—was cold and lifeless. There was no sign of care or attention in the preparation. For a takeaway, this fell well below acceptable standards. I won’t be ordering again unless clear improvements are made. I hope the team can take this feedback on board and raise the quality to match the expectations.

The lasagnas we ordered absolutely amazing loads of nice flavours. Me and my mum really enjoyed it my brother loved his pizza, loved the texture and flavours the polpette pizza is his favourite, that pizza is delicious my dad loved his moon lasagna he said its the best he has every had he loved it! The tirimusu oh my god it was absolutely amazing such a lovely dessert had so many lovely flavours and the texture was brilliant i highly recomend staff are so kind and respectful I do work here now everyone is kind and generous towards there colleagues and customers I recommend this place this is an amazing place to go too!!!

I'm really impressed with the food we had last week at Moon, I don't really write reviews, but defo thought this place deserved one. Service from G was excellent along with the food and wine. Will definitely return

We decided to visit on the basis of the 4.5 overall rating - however looking afterwards we found that the majority of the positive reviews were either many years ago or evidently fraudulent. My partner left a poor review, only the next morning to be bumped down by a 5 star review with no comments - you can’t hide under your facade for much longer. The calzone was burnt on the outside and completely raw on the inside; the lasagne was evidently microwaved as it arrived in 15 minutes and was piping hot on the inside with luke warm edges and sitting in a watery sauce. When questioned, the manager simply said we don’t use microwaves and walked off - leaving us to pay £40 for a doughy garlic bread, a half eaten lasagne and 2 drinks. Terrible food with even worse service, suggest everyone avoid and try one of the many other establishments Kendal has to offer. To top it all off, there was a used tampon in the middle of the toilet floor - if the food wasn’t enough to make me sick, that sure did.

we ordered a calzone a lasagna and a cheesy garlic bread the lasagne was okay but came in a bowl of water and piping hot obviously microwaved. The Calzone was inedible and sent back it was not cooked burnt on the outside and the dough was not cooked along with it the toppings inside, The garlic bread was the same just burnt and doughy. You can not call your self an italian restaurant if your microwaving food and can not cook a pizza or do not have a pizza oven. AVOID!!!!!

My colleague recommended I came here after a good meal here during Kendal Mountain Festival. I arrived after the person I was meeting for a meal who had been seated upstairs. I was told that my ‘ escort’ was waiting for me- that comment made me feel pretty cheap! I chose the seafood Fellini- the pasta was stuck together with little taste and the seafood was slimy. My friend’s meal was passable. Gelato and the Tiramisu were ok. Service was ok although the waitress had to come back to check whether my friend wanted pasta or pizza and we had to ask for cutlery. I doubt I’ll be returning which is a shame because I’ve always thought of it as a quality restaurant. I gave this two stars but it has only come up with one.

Been a few times now. It's absolutely lovely, the sausage and calovo Nero pasta is so tasty and filling. The portion sizes are very generous, the waiting on staff are very welcoming and the wine is good. Price wise, I think its very reasonable for a special occasion italian. Oh and don't miss out on the truffle and parmesan fries

Had the most outstanding meal here, really can't recommend highly enough. The moon lasagne was the best meal I've ever had in a restaurant honestly it was amazing, my son had the calzone which he said was the best he had tried and all other meals were thoroughly enjoyed, the service was fantastic and really reasonable prices, if we were staying in Kendal for longer I'd be straight back again, fantastic place 10/10. Actually 100/10!

For a Tuesday it was wonderfully busy. Lovely staff and great food. Definitely worth a try. The aubergine parmigiana was lovely. I would say the vodka sauce could be a little thicker but it was still very tasty!! Definitely will be back 😊

Food was really lovely but took my other half here thinking it was going to be amazing..... but the guy who served us was a little chubby little old man should of been in a old folks home not taking peoples orders who sat us at a table for 4 when it was just 2. Then after taking our order and saying want me to bring the starter out with the mains he forgot my partners food completly even though he confirmed it before hand then we he did say sorry he had such a smug smile on him. Will not be going here again that is for sure.

The Moon Restaurant in Highgate, Kendal, was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The service was painfully average, and while the garlic bread was decent, it arrived before the drinks—and without side plates. How does that even happen? For my main, I specifically asked for no olives on my pizza. What do they do? Bring it out with olives. When I pointed it out, they didn’t bother making a new one—they just picked off the olives and sent the same pizza back, hoping I wouldn’t notice. That’s not just lazy; it’s insulting. And to top it all off, they tried to overcharge me for drinks I didn’t even have! While they quickly corrected the bill, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s a shame, as past visits have been decent, but after this fiasco, I won’t be returning any time soon.

Went on a Monday afternoon for a quick business lunch. Very quick and attentive service. The express lunch menu is very good value for money. The food was excellent and not just your usual Italian. Well done!

Booked a table for two at 4pm. Arrived, no staff waited for someone to seat us or take an order for 10 mins so we took off. Disappointing

What a gem of a restaurant!! I had Lasagne and it was simply the best I've ever eaten. The staff were delightful and most helpful. I would highly recommend this restaurant- you won't be disappointed.

Ate here last week. Food was excellent - I ate there with my wife and son and all of us really enjoyed the flavours and quality of the food. The only let down was that on the night we were there, the food took a long time to arrive - everyone was working really hard to deliver the food on time and the waiter apologised several times. Despite the delay in the food I fully recommend this restaurant. The quality of the food we had was excellent.

Having ordered off the menu, we were told both our options were unavailable. The alternative order had spaghetti that was more like noodles, and the lasagne had something in it that was far from a resemblance to meat. Daughters pasta was also undercooked and too hard for her to eat. Gave up and left it all in the end. Not somewhere I'd recommend and definitely won't be revisiting.

It was a great shame it was understaffed when I visited. 1 lad running the food and drinks as well as trying to do all the table service. Inevitably things slipped and the same staffing issue must have impacted kitchen as food took a v. long time to come out. Can't fault the lad for effort, he was fighting a losing battle and didn't seem to get much help. However the food,when it came, was excellent

A very pleasant cosy pizza and pasta place. It always seems busy, and I once had to sit by the window seat (which was totally fine apart from the loud bang the main door makes). If you get a table upstairs it feels lovely and cosy. I've had a pizza which was tasty and fresh and a seafood pasta dish which was also lovely.

Perhaps me and my partner caught this place on a bad night - but that's as forgiving as I can be. We were "greeted" by a waitress who didn't seem to have a clue as to what was happening, before being seated in an unlit area of the restaurant. The waitress struggled to take our fairly basic and small order and when it did arrive the food was poorly presented, bland and in the case of my pizza burnt to a crisp. I'd understand if it was a busy weekend but the restaurant was half empty on a Tuesday...?

Dog friendly place in Kendal, that is a great stopover in or out of the lakes! The pastas were standard, but they are also happy to whip you something you like:)

I don't ever really do reviews, but feel like I need too for The Moon, our service was amazing, a nice atmosphere in the restaurant, and the food was the best Italian in the Lakes by far... The price was really affordable. Order the parmesan garlic bread starter, I can't stop thinking about it.

The best lasagne I've ever had, great pizza, friendly staff, prompt but not rushed service, and great prices for the quality of food. The only thing I'd change would be turning the music down a little.

Was very disappointed in the meal we had here. My husband had the lasagne which was ok but I had the orecchiette which tasted of nothing, was very bland. We shared a pizza, which wasn't good either, couldn't pick it up as it was too wet and soagy and also was tasteless aswell. Wouldn't recommend here for an Italian meal.

Visited the place with my family. We had a lasagna, gnochi and a pizza. Overall the food was good but we waited for 90 minutes to get it :(

My partner and I had the dinner here and the service was excellent. We had the calamari, arancino, nonno’s lasagne, vodka ravioli, tiramisu and mouse and it was all very tasty, well cooked. The lasagne had the proper crispy, caramelised top with the right amount of filling between the layers. The vodka ravioli was perfect and not at all watery in the filling which is often the case with in house made ravioli. The desserts and starters were also very well cooked. If we lived closer this would be a place to visit!

The Moon Highgate is a nice little restaurant towards the south of Kendal's town centre. Our food was enjoyable and relatively filling, but unfortunately the service was a little varied. There was a considerable wait to take our order - I ended up asking for somebody to come over and, while some staff were nice and welcoming, others felt a bit disengaged. I still had a nice time and I'd say it is still worth a visit, but it falls down my score because of that unfortunately.

I took my dad for a dinner here on Sunday, the sharing starter was nice and we really enjoyed it, however, my main meal which was the lasagna was far from enjoyable. The lasagna was burnt (you can see the corners, the rest was well hidden by the cheese) which was a shame. The lasagna was really dry, it must’ve been reheated multiple times. The restaurant as a whole is nice and well looked after.

The food was boring and uninspired. The waiter also seemed bored and uninspired. There was no atmosphere, so the staff had turned the (tasteless, like the food) music up very loud, presumably to try to compensate for this. There were no other customers, but we were sent to eat upstairs anyway, where there was no view of anything, so that the staff could stay at their own table downstairs to fold serviettes and gossip. They really couldn't be bothered to get up to take our money.

I can’t believe the portion sizes! Staff were ALL great. Don’t believe the website, they may not be booked out, I turned up and there was loads of space. Highly recommend. Shall never need to eat again.

Decent place and has really good reviews. I thought the options to be a tad limited for an Italian place. Chilli oil wasn’t chilli. Particularly disappointing was the Risotto - it was very bland. Pizza Pollo was good and so was one of the pasta we ordered.

If you live nearby - just go. A real gem of an Italian restaurant on your doorstep. Lovely atmosphere and simply great food. The pizza calabrese was fiery and delicious. the children’s spaghetti with meatballs and tomato sauce equally good. Already looking forward to the next visit.

Says online open until 12am on Friday and Saturday with last food orders being 10pm, yet arrived at 8.40pm and we're told we couldn't be seated despite there being plenty of tables and still diners eating and waiting for food

I've been here twice to give them a chance. Both times I was disappointed. First of all, the waiters were quite arrogant. The first time we had to ask for water four times, the second time twice. Pasta was nice but the food was very salty. Prices for the food reasonable

I was very disappointed. Such food I can cook myself and I expected that in England everybody would know how to prepare english tea. But it was portion of tea leaves for five cups of tea. The waiters were rude.

Booked a joint birthday dinner on our weekend trip away, at 8:45pm for 4 of us. Arrived 5 minutes early, to be told the table is 15-20 minutes away from being ready and to go elsewhere for a drink and they would call me when they had the table ready. The weather was bad so I asked if we could sit in the empty seats, they reluctantly agreed but did not offer any drinks whilst we waited, or for us to have a look at the food menu. We went and found a drink elsewhere, as suggested, only for them to cancel the table. When we went back in to ask why, they said they did not think we wanted the table anymore?! We asked to still eat there, however they were still not ready. It had gone past 9pm at this time, so we had no chance of being served food elsewhere at such short notice. They rang around 10 minutes afterwards, to say the table was ready but at that point we were so hungry and disappointed that our birthday celebrations had been ruined, we chose not to spend money in a restaurant that clearly does not want customers!

Didn’t get a chance to eat to tell you whether the food is any good. Maybe the food is good… who knows?! Customer service SHOCKING to the point of being quite rude. Avoid if you want a nice evening… if you want great drinks/ food there’s a lovely place just a few steps away called 98 Highgate who have a great atmosphere, very welcoming and served drinks as soon as you walk through the door! Would not recommend unless they sacked the whole team and rehired.

The pasta is fresh and tasty with a good authenticity which you don’t get at chain Italians. Perfectly located for a pre show meal before going to Brewery Arts. Service was attentive.

Booked a table a few weeks in advance. Confirmed the day before. Turned up to find the restaurant closed. No one called, no one responded to my voicemail. Had to ring back for a very half hearted apology. Such a shame. I like to support local & independent businesses. Very disappointed

Meatballs for start was lovely, nonno's lasagna for main was ok but service needs some serious improvement. Felt like we were forgotten about, had to ask if someone was going to take our order. Having an overnight in Kendal, picked a restaurant with solid reviews, so went to The Moon Highgate. To be as brief as possible, food decent, drink alright, both price and quality wise, as for the "service", keep reading... Meatballs very good, calamari, alright but on the scrawny side. Nona's lasagne was decent, Gnocchi was well presented and very tasty. The service? Absolutely shocking. Painfully slow, stuck at a table round the corner where not only had they forgotten about us, but also there was no drinks menu, to at least let us imagine what it would be like to get inebriated, then we might have forgotten about the poor service. When our mains finally arrived (well over an hour since we entered the establishment), they were delivered to the wrong table. In conclusion, cosy restaurant, decent Italian fair but the service leaves a lot to be desired, very disappointed.
