The Moody Cow Ilkley in Bradford

What started as a very enjoyable evening of very good food and wine with friends, ended on a sour note that rather spoilt the evening. Three of the party ordered the Ribs and Rump steak combo (£24.95) but asked for the steaks to be upgraded to two Ribeye and one Fillet. I accept that we should have asked how much the upgrade would cost but we would have expected a clarification from the server. In any case, we expected to pay a premium of £7 to £10 pp based on the differential cost between Rump and Ribeye on the Steak Night menu. It was a surprise to find that the excess was £20 extra per head, increasing the meal cost to about £45 pp which we felt was excessive and made the server aware of it. We didn't get a satisfactory explanation as to the reason for such an excessive increase to the cost of the meal other than a rather flippant response, asking us what we wanted to pay! Eventually, he knocked £5 off each meal. What should have been a rave review about the quality of the meal has, unfortunately, been spoilt by the lack of clarification and overpricing of our meals.

Fantastic place. As soon as you walk in you can smell a fantastic aroma. Nice interior friendly staff. Water brought up you which is x nice touch. Good size menu to choose from. I went for the ribs and they were so good. Big portion cooked to perfection. Reasonable prices. Can’t really fault the place

We have visited quite a few times, and the steak is always consistently great. There is a nice selection of accompaniments and they do a great espresso martini.

A group friends went here and we were all delighted. The menu is varied and all the food we chose was great quality. Front of house staff were very aware and attentive and the food was cooked to perfection.

Absolutely fantastic meals. I had fillet steak, my wife had bbq rib, we each had a starter. Quality and quantity of food was excellent could not fault it in any way. Service was first class and staff were friendly and helpful. Prices very good. I would very highly recommend this restaurant.

We went to the Ilkley Cow for Sunday lunch. I had the pork and my partner had the beef. The whole Sunday dinner tasted sweet, the gravy was sweet, meat tasted like it had been cooked in something sweet and the roasted veg, also sweet. It wasn’t horrible, just not very enjoyable. Only nice thing was the Yorkshire pudding unfortunately. Wouldn’t be back.

We were staying locally with friends and had booked this establishment for dinner. What a great choice!!!! The menu was extensive with many cuts of steak with a choice of size, sides, sauces etc. Coupled with that there was also a good variety of non steak dishes and everything we ordered was served with a smile and beautifully presented. Three different cuts of steak and the Scottish salmon was our order and there was no complaints at all. We still had room for a delicious dessert each too. Great pricing - we can't wait to revisit it next time we are in the area

Amazing food with exceptional service what’s not to like? We spoke at length to the owner who is so passionate about every aspect of the restaurant and has created a unique and welcoming environment. On top of this he has also created a range of challenges for their uber hungry visitors, mixing things up to challenge visitors regularly. such as the 70oz steak paired with 70 king prawns. The challenge last night would have been 10 chicken wings, 2 racks of ribs and a steak l, which you have to consume within an hour and if you do the meal is free. This was all beyond our appetites for the evening, but our entire table was impressed with what was delivered, cooked to perfection and extremely tasty. However given the quality of the food I would happily try to fast for a few days to challenge myself to eat as much of their menu as possible, it was that good.

Our favourite place to go for a Sunday roast in Ilkley. Succulent meat and cooked to perfection with a great bottle of wine. Kids ate all their roast as well!

Great atmosphere, staff brilliant, portions massive, but some of the food lacking taste n sauce, I had Terriyaki pork belly, it was cooked beautifully but no teriyaki taste, I also had the baby back ribs, again cooked to perfection n massive, but dry n lacking bbq sauce taste, so a tad disappointed but overall enjoyed the evening

Impromptu visit with the family and the Pup. Friendly welcome, went for the two for £39 offer expecting it to be ok, I was wrong, 10 oz Rump was perfectly cooked and a really good piece of steak. The little are nearly all her tea which a rarity and the pup was pampered. Will definitely be back

We were stopping nearby and unfortunately our hotel closed its kitchens. In a way it did us a favour as we found this amazing restaurant. Yes it’s mainly a steak house, but there is a wide variety of other dishes. I had the salmon with roast veg, my wife had lamb. Both dishes were fantastic. The reason for my title is I genuinely hate aubergine, and when cooked at home it ends up on the side of my plate. This was however aubergine heaven, perfectly grilled not a snotty mess. A credit to the chef, as were all the dishes. We also had the antipasto platter which had gorgeous pickles and olives. In total £61 with service charge. On a final note if Ollie is serving you he is a consummate professional and truly amazing host. A great experience. Well done.

We came tonight for the steak sampler all the way from Wrexham being my partners birthday.. and honestly the best steak we’ve both ever had and as ordering food I mentioned it was my partners birthday to which when food came out his fillet steak was covered In gold leaf 😊 also the young waiter Ollie was a pleasure cudnt do enough for you…. Very Friendly welcome and nice atmosphere. Sharing platter was amazing, ribs just fell off the bone. Steak for main course was cooked to perfection (rare). Whilst staying Ilkley we came here for dinner Saturday night. Food was delicious and staff were friendly. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Cracking pint of lager as well. Also the place was dog friendly so bring your four legged friend for dinner as well.

We visited this restaurant last year when we were on holiday and had a wonderful meal, so, we decided to visited again and were slightly worried that we might be disappointed. No need to worry, it was brilliant. The steak night was great value, staff very friendly and food exceptional. We will be back next year.

Came out for valentine’s dinner but was immediately disappointed as we weren’t greeted as we entered and had to go up to the bar to get someone to show us to our table. Staff appeared lackadaisical and one member of staff (after standing around then spending 30 minutes serving on the bar) then decided to have a full steak dinner in the middle of the restaurant. I believe that this was the manager. The food was actually pretty good but unless the staff management is not sorted out quickly this establishment will be soon out of business.

What a lovely local restaurant , staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, the service was perfectly timed and well explained. The steaks were delicious and with a group of 8 people there was not a single complaint everything was cooked perfectly. Just wished we lived a bit closer.

Great service. Staff were really helpful and made my cold 8 yr old a Hot chocolate for us even though it wasn't on the menu. Offered iced tap water for the table on arrival and didn't feel rushed. Lovely food. Happy to recommend and return.

Decided to give Ilkley Cow another try, with their offer of 2 ribey steaks plus a glass of wine for £53.95. The wine was very acceptable; the fries and sauce excellent, but the steaks....? Although perfectly cooked, my wife's and mine were full of gristle and fat. Our friends noth left half of theirs, which looked so well done it was thin and shrivelled... I always thought rthis was top Argentinian steak, but frankly I've bought and cooked much better ribeye and fillet from Aldi. And not the cheapest steak in Ilkley anyhow. Sorry, won't be back until we get glowing word of mouth recommendations.

Amazing, food, wine and service were fantastic. The owner and his son really did look after us. Value for money, left very full and not wanting anything else but our sofa 😜

We popped in for a payday treat and opted for the 8oz fillet steak night deal with sides and two glasses of house red. The steaks arrived blue rather than rare and I have no problem with this, you can always cook the steak a little more, but if it comes overdone it's ruined. Almost raw steak then with hot, crispy chips and plenty of bearnaise sauce. Win win.

We returned here Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. I chose the triple taster from the menu as this is what I had eaten on a previous occasion and it had been delicious. I must say that I was very disappointed with the quality of the meat on this occasion. This is not a cheap place to eat and had traveled from Nottingham to eat here. This experience has definitely put us off from coming back again.

So the steaks are plentiful, very well cooked, and there's a nice red wine list. This is a steak restaurant, they should be good, and they are. The atmosphere was nice and the staff very attentive and professional.But some of the non-steak dishes are disappointing. The charcuterie plate had a few bits of meat from a packet, severely undercooked 80s style garlic bread, and a pickled fennel side that lacked taste and seasoning. The piri piri chicken was equally disappointing; i was expecting a juicy bit of chicken on the bone with crispy spiced skin, but got a dried out piece of breast with loads of onions in one of those naff sizzle plates. Again, tasteless, no seasoning, and even the homeopathic pot of sour cream couldn't liven or moisten it up. And at £15 or so, that ain't cheap. The whole bill was pretty pricey.So it's OK if you want a steak and wine. And probably much better value on one of their weekday early birds. Just don't be tempted to go off-piste!

We visited this restaurant because we were unable to use the restaurant we had booked for circumstances beyond their control but what a great time we had. The staff were friendly and welcoming ,engaging with each table individually. The menu was excellent and with plenty of variation, tables were well spaced out. We both opted to start with terrine and followed by slow cooked lamb shank - both were delicious and beautifully presented. We will be sure to recommend and visit when next in the area.

For the past year my partner has promised me steak, and wow did we have steak. We shared 50+ oz of Chateubriand between us cooked blue, it was hands down the best steak either of us have ever eaten. Service was superb too despite how busy it was. We will be back, n are and have been recommending to anyone who listen.

Husband and I both opted for the ribeye steak which I know contains fat however the piece that both myself and my husband were presented with contained massive amounts of gristle that was inedible, it was also not cooked to my required "medium".Also, the menu is confusing, the steak night Thursday offers steak with a free side, I chose the salad but apparently, fries in this restaurant is considered a side. I have never gone to a place where a meal is served without a potato portion included. Follow that on to find that they automatically add 10% service charge really is not good customer service. If the person that took our order had taken the time to explain the menu correctly then there wouldn't have been so much waste. There were sides on various pages of the menu and both my husband and I managed to get confused. Neither of us are stupid or in our dotage, menu needs to be clearer.To be fair, I asked for the service charge to be removed which was removed without issue.It was an expensive meal and just not worth it, the restaurant need to get the menu sorted out and better quality steaks sourced.

This is a very nice independent restaurant with pleasant staff and good service. The steak choice was good and the food itself of good quality. However I feel the portion sizes are ridiculous and probably generate a lot of food waste which could be avoided. The steaks were lovely but the minimum size is 10oz which is a lot of meat and probably more than many people can manage especially older folk (my elderly mother struggled to eat her meal) – how about some smaller say 6oz options? I also think the size of the sides is ridiculous - I had the coleslaw which would have easily served 2 people . I know the portions are bigger so they can charge more but how about larger sides for sharing at £3.50 and smaller pots at half that price for one person. When people are using food banks I felt uncomfortable with the meal size and the amount of waste

It's a steakhouse, so you would expect a good steak, but my ribeye tonight, whilst well seasoned and cooked, was tough and not very warm. The creme brulee to follow was even worse - tasteless and very small. They need to go to Miller and Carter to find out how to do it properly!

Myself and my friend had been on a spa day in Ilkley so were looking for somewhere where we could have a meal. We found The Ilkley Cow and liked the look of the food on the menu and I remembered hearing good things about it. It was a Saturday evening so the restaurant was quite busy but Ben was very accommodating and managed to squeeze us in. All the staff were very efficient and attentive. The service was excellent. The food was all beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and chilled. The restaurant decor has a cow theme which makes it unique. The food was a little expensive but the prices match the superb quality and freshness of the food. There is a great choice of food on the menu from steaks, ribs, burgers, chicken and vegetarian options. I would highly recommend The Ilkley Cow, we had a lovely time.

Just sitting in the ilkley cow having just eaten a beautiful meal with great service. Staff have been very attentive without being pushy and we have felt very special. The mushroom risotto was gorgeous , very creamy. Chef will done. Definitely a place to visit.

Me and two friends had found this place on google, and after reading great reviews thought we would try it out. We had travelled from Liverpool and had arrived 10 minutes early before it had actually opened, but the staff were accommodating and let us use the bathroom too. The place: it would be somewhere you wouldn’t really think of if you were driving past as the front is quite minimal. However, once inside the place opens up to a lovely themed ‘cow’ restaurant. There is a clear theme throughout and this stretches to the booth seating which is cow hide (it’s a really nice authentic touch - if you are not vegan or vegetarian) however, on saying this, there is some no meat options available too! It was very very clean, the cutlery had been polished no water stains in sight and the same is to be said for all glasses etc. Accessibility: this place is on a slight hill and the nearest parking would be on the opposite side of the road, around a 300m walk. It is a pay and display parking but if you have a blue badge - it’s free. On arrival there are two steps to get into the venue, but I was not 100% sure if there was an option of a ramp within the venue. There are some outdoor seats, and this could be changed for a wheelchair to sit if needed or preferred. Once inside, it is all flat, and as well as booths there are regular tables with chairs. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet which is placed before the men and women toilets - these are very clean! Staff: we were served by Ben (I believe) upon arrival, we were given menus, and an ice cold jug of water and glasses for the table (this was great as we have been having warm weather lately). Ben could not do enough he informed us of the soup of the day, the scotch egg of the week etc. At every second Ben was more than happy to help and be accommodating. He was very polite and under the mask we could tell he was smiling too! Even after our starters Ben had noticed that we had used some cutlery and he had brought fresh cutlery for us - normally it is only upon request you get new - so it was just attentive care through out. I would highly recommend this place and Ben is one of the reasons as to why! Brilliant! Food: considering the establishment is all based around the cow and meat, there are some other options available if you aren’t into meat - or even beef such as chicken, vegetarian options etc. All of our starters arrived promptly and were delicious. I had the carrot and coriander soup and would highly recommend if it is an option. My friends got the scotch egg (pulled pork scotch egg) which was runny and made perfectly, and then the chicken and liver pate which went down a treat. For mains, we all had the ‘build your own burger’. You have the option to pick whichever toppings you like as well as whether you would like a beef patty or chicken. Be warned though, the portions are very generous and even though we all love to eat we had to leave some. The beef patty is clearly home made and is truly enjoyable, Infact it was so tasty we all decided we could eat just the patty and be happy! We did see other tables get meat dishes and they looked outstanding. Everything was hot fresh and tasty. Price and value: I found that it wasn’t too bad pricing for the food. A starter on average is around £5-8 and the build a burger was around £13. The price may be a touch higher than other places, but you do pay for home cooked fresh and good sourced ingredients. Overall: I will definitely be returning to this place and have recommended it to a few people. The ambience is nice inside, the staff are fantastic and the food is just unreal.

Great food, great service. Everything was spot on, from the welcome to the cooking. So many good things on the menu, could eat here multiple times without getting bored. One, very very small comment - music was a bit 80’s! Definitely recommend whether you are a meat-lover or not.

It’s rare I give a 5 star review but these guys nailed our dinner tonight. Clearly know what they are about, impressing everyone in our party. Myself, my wife and two teens were treated to The Ilkley Cow experience which consisted of relaxed, friendly and attentive service, coupled with melt in the mouth steaks and delicious sides and sauces. We eat out frequently and this was a particularly nice experience in a great setting. Thank you all who were working tonight. We will return no doubt.

Having walked around the Ilkley food festival for a while, we ventured up to Ilkey l, as we couldn’t bear quing another 40 minutes for a drink. We knew every restaurant in Ilkley would be mega busy due to the footfall, taking over the Town this weekend however the guys at the Ilkley Cow went out of there way to squeeze us in (they were fully booked).Jeez we were so glad they did. It was a 2nd visit here and this time really hit the mark. The first visit was outside only due to ‘COVID’ restrictions. So we started off by sharing the special scotch egg of the day which was pulled pork- mouth watering good! We both decided on Fillet Steak for main which was ‘melt in your mouth’, seasoned to perfection and delicious overall! The sides were great with a fantastic variety on the menu. We had booked a table here for a Thursday night. On arriving, we were welcomed and shown to the bar while our table was readied, and offered drinks and the menu. Our table was ready quickly.The menu offers lots of meat options, as well as quite a few vegetarian options. We had starters, - calamari and scotch eggs - mains - sizzling teriyaki steak and salmon - and dessert - brownie. All the food was fantastic, great quality and cooked beautifully and presented very well.The staff were really welcoming and friendly throughout. The social distancing measures are also being encouraged and followed here - makes required when not seated at your table, hand sanitizer available on the table. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to going back!

After the best part of a year with business at an all time low, one might be forgiven for thinking that the Ilkley Cow would be falling over itself to welcome its customers back. Instead, tried to ‘walk in’ to a nigh on empty restaurant for a quick late lunch with the family only to be met by an abrupt manager who barked at us ‘have you booked!’ (Clearly not) ‘well we’re not taking walk-ins!’ WOW!! Well I have news for you. If this is how the pretentious Ilkley restauranteur treats his customers - then he ought to think about reverting to its previous name - The Moody Cow - much more apposite! Won’t be calling for a booking in future!!

Amazing Chateaubriand on Thursday evening, can not fault the quality of the steak cooked to perfection, along with the fabulous sides & sauces ........ all delivered to the door with a bottle of red! 🥰 Thanks Ben and team!

This is the second time during 2021 that we have had a takeaway from the Ilkley Cow. We’ve both really impressed with both the service & the food! The ribs, Mac and cheese and chips are all delicious & my partner who had the steak couldn’t recommend it enough. Everything was packaged well and on time so when we opened it, it was still piping hot. Looking forward to visiting when they are able to open again! 10/10 from us! Thanks

We were very happy with steak dinners for 4 people. Grill combo, rib eye and chateaubriand all well cooked and presented with excellent sides, sauces and chips. Delivered on time and hot.Bottle of Red wine Malbec was superb. It all added nicely to our Anniversary celebration.Thank you Ilkley Cow.
