We had a great meal here. The cocktails to start were fantastic and the food element was excellent. We opted for the tasting menu. Rarely do we choose tasting menus due to the amount of food you get but this was just right course wise. We knew we were going to eat well by the quality of the canapes. Absolutely delicious beef tartare, a lovely piece of halibut and a piece of local lamb concluded the savoury element. Desserts definitely disappoint nor did the exquisite petit four. All the staff were great. Friendly but not too friendly and very efficient. The wine list is good but it does take some studying to find the bottles that represent good value for money. The decor might not be quite to our taste and the banquette I sat on was just a little low for the height of the table. Other than that I thoroughly recommend dining here. Well done team !

The gentile and exquisite setting of The Royal Crescent and Montagu’s Mews is the perfect place to escape the busyness of life for a few hours. Our afternoon tea was sublime. The extensive varieties of tea and the selection of sandwiches and patisserie was impressive. In addition, the precision and flavours were sensational. I particularly loved the gooseberry and créme tartlet and the scones. Service was excellent and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable sunny afternoon drinking tea, eating the sweet delights and quaffing deliciously crisp Chablis. Highly recommend and excellent value for such an outstanding afternoon.

I'll start with the positives. The hotel certainly has the wow factor being situated within the Royal Crescent. Upon approaching Montagus we were warmly welcomed by the host and seated on the terrace for our afternoon tea. The food was nice, selection of tea was great and the option to upgrade to champagne. The surroundings are beautiful and well kept. However, the service in this place is absolutely abysmal. The waiting staff seemed poorly trained, they were amateurish and quite frankly I felt embarrassed for them. They wandered around looking like they didnt have a clue what was going on. It took ages to get served and we had to remind them of our orders several times. It was painful. I have no issue in waiting if places are busy or understaffed but this was something else. We also observed two ladies on the table next to us have their glass of champagne spilt all over them. Yes, accidents happen but given the amateur nature of the staff here its hardly surprising.

We had been told that this was one of the best tea experiences in the UK. Better than in London. Wife and daughter came for tea usually 45 pounds per person but upgraded to the bubbly experience for 59 for wife and 45 for daughter. They were sat outside at a picknic table WITHOUT an umbrella on a warm sunny day. There were 2 other tables with umbrellas, yet they chose to seat at the ONLY table without an umbrella? After seating, requested to be moved as it was sunny and they were cooking in the sun. Even the host mentioned that "this table needs an umbrella. They moved to a shaded area in the patio but there was construction happening in the garden area so it was not a peaceful experience. By the time they were done, there was still the the same table with an umbrella unoccupied. The food was just okay as the sandwiches were mediocre, but the desserts were good. Had to waive the waitress down twice to refill the water and refill the tea. This is not a 4 star experience. It's not even a 2 star experience. They were not welcoming and for 100 GBP, it's just a disappointing experience. Would not be coming back nor would we recommend it. The landscaping and gardens setting is beautiful however and it's worth walking through. Perhaps when the construction is finished, have a drink there to get an experience but don't waste your time with the tea service. We had a much lovelier tea experience in Cottswold at Stow on the Wold at The Old Bakery Tea Room from a lovely couple who were very nice and understand good service.

Our son and daughter in law very kindly bought us a "red letter day" voucher for this restaurant at a cost of £295 for the 6 course tasting menu which included a bottle of champagneas a thank you for hosting their wedding reception in our garden last August. When booking the meal the person I spoke to was very pleasant and we were very much looking forward to this treat. Upon arrival the restaurant was very quiet but we were ushered to a table opposite the till where one is the waiters spent most of the evening folding napkins...it felt like they didn't want "voucher" guests in the actual restaurant where all the ambience was. There were definitely tables available as a couple asked to be moved from our area and we're found a table in the restaurant. The tasting menu itself was absolutely delicious but we were only offered glass of champagne each rather than the bottle paid for. I have endless the hotel regarding this but have yet had the courtesy of a response. I look forward to hearing from them!

My husband booked lunch for Saturday 20th April to celebrate our wedding anniversary.. the food& service was absolutely amazing.. lovely staff .. want to mention merik who was very good when I had him running around trying to find a table I was happy with... But the absolute best was to be there to see Matt .. he is amazing and a true professional.. he will elevate the restaurant with his professional manner.. only downside was that although we booked for lunch it was over run with afternoon tea.. starting at 1pm . But having said that it was a beautiful place & food fabulous & will return very soon

We had the set lunch which was delicious, and beautiful to look at. The best food we have had for a very long time. The waiting staff were all very young and made up for their apparent inexperience with enthusiasm. So the service was slightly haphazard but relaxed and charming. A delightful experience, we’ll be back.

The afternoon tea here is delightful. A selection of dainty and delicious sandwiches were followed by a Bath bun, a traditional Bath sweet treat. There was also a light and fresh scone, served with clotted cream and jam, topped off with a gorgeous variety of patisserie. My friends and I enjoyed the champagne and fine tea choice. Susanna was both knowledgeable and friendly. Her warmth and professionalism was an added bonus. What a memorable experience shared with lovely friends. Thank you

Good points: the tasting menus were beautifully curated and well executed. We enjoyed our drink in the bar beforehand and we particularly appreciated the young sommelier’s selection of pairings with our tasting menus. His enthusiasm for the wine really stood out and we felt in safe hands! Let downs: we were placed on a table adjacent to the till/serving galley area. We were using a voucher that had been a Christmas present and we were definitely made to feel as though we were second class citizens. The restaurant was by no means full either. Our waiter could have been better - the first course my vegetarian husband was given the fish, and I was given the vegetarian option. This was a mistake / assumption that had started in the bar earlier when I was handed the vegetarian menu. Luckily when our waiter introduced the food I pointed out the mistake. Later on our waiter also forgot necessary details when introducing each course, and when it got to the cheese he could only remember 3 of the cheeses on the plate. Towards the end of our meal the staff began to make up tables for breakfast around us. And then we were left on our own to find our own coats which had been taken from us at the start before walking out without so much as a goodbye.

Visiting the hotel as my son has a spa membership. Approached the restaurant to book a late lunch - spoken and dealt with abruptly and in a dismissive manner by the waiter / manager of the restaurant. He rudely informed us they were fully booked all day. His demeanour was clearly judgmental - "snobatorium" springs to mind. When we returned later that afternoon to meet our son (the time we were requesting a table in the restaurant) to find the restaurant had more empty tables than occupied. Appalling service and judgemental attitudes! Will never return!

I invited my friends for having my birthday dinner at the Montagu's Mews. The atmosphere, quality of the foods and drinks were amazing although it was a bit expensive. However, we were looked after by a lovely lady, named SHARAREH along side her male manager with French accent. Sharareh was the most beautiful inside and outside waitress we have ever had, she told us that she joined to the rest of crew only a week ago although, we were amazed by her excellent hospitality skills and of course her politeness. We certainly saw she went the extra mile to provide us the best dining experience we could have asked for. Thanks Sharareh, her manager and the rest of the team. We will certainly come back soon. P.S for the readers: If you want to take the most advantageous of your expensive bill, just ask for Sharareh to be your server ;)

Service average. Young waiters a little clueless, we asked for a recommendation of a fruity easy drinking & mellow red wine. He looked bewildered and perplexed and came back after 15mins with his colleagues recommendation. We decided to order two beers instead along with some sides. Please take a look at the photo attached as to the pints that arrived, no kidding. I was shocked and in hindsight should have raised it. Food very average and nothing fancy. Overall disappointing, does not live up to the reputation. Needs huge improvement on many levels.

We booked a tasting menu dinner to celebrate our wedding weekend. We had some cocktails at the bar before our dinner - very basic, lacked complexity and I could have made better at home. Food was ok however our evening, was tainted by a really poor experience with their ‘sommelier’ who struggled to recommend wine to go with the tasting menu. Not sure how that happens as the tasting menu normally remains the same for several weeks so surely someone must have asked this question before? One of the wines he suggested was the worst possible pairing to go with the menu and unfortunately, for the first time in our life, we had to ask for a different wine. He then took 10mins to bring out another wine which he said we couldn’t taste as it was a screw cap bottle. We then had to wait another 10min for him to bring a 3rd wine which we chose ourselves. All together our wine took over 30mins, it was the most awkward and unpleasant start to our dinner. The food waiter had brought out 2 courses by the time the wine came out and was surprised himself as to how long the wine waiter was taking. When booking, we’d mentioned that we got married the day before so it was a special occasion. There were no special touches added throughout our experience. It was extremely disappointing and we will not be returning nor recommending. Big let down, especially since the Royal Crescent has a reputation to maintain. This place does not do it justice. We felt extremely disappointed, given the occasion and walked out deflated, regretting having booked it in the first place

We wanted to visit here for a long time. We were greeted at the main doors of the sriram Crescent and first appearances were beautiful and were overwhelmed by the lush garden and arrangement of outdoor seating and tranquil ness. We sat for 15mins before being approached. We ordered some lunch and 2 lagers. The young gentleman was very friendly and soon returned with our drinks however never ever in my lifetime have I been served with a pint that arrives 3/4. We were both shocked and in hindsight should have said something at £7.50 a pint. The home made chips with rosemary should also so fried in beef dripping. I don’t eat meat and my mouth tasted disgusting afterwards. Once again when waiting for the bill it was 15minutes before they came to take payment. Very slow service. Many of the waiters just seemed uninterested. Disappointing and wouldn’t return. It’s a shame

This is my favourite restaurant in Bath, particularly in the summer when the gardens and outdoor seating is open. The service is impeccable and of course the food is excellent - but what makes it for me above other similar options (Gainsborough, Bath Priory etc.) is the ambience - you just can’t beat it in Bath and makes for a superb experience.

We enjoyed a drink in the bar (cocktails £16.50) then the a la carte menu at Montague Mews. There was also the option of the tasting menu. Exceptional service. Dishes are fine dining so small portions but big on taste and presentation. I enjoyed the complimentary bread with organic butter, the beef tartare for starter, the lamb main with chips as a side (I recommend getting a side), then the strawberry dessert. Amazing wine list. It was a light setting, not a dark, atmospheric, candle-lit setting. Recommend for a birthday/occasion.

I had this as a present from a friend. Not sure how much she paid for it, but it was a very good afternoon tea. We had some finger sandwiches, tea, mini eclairs, and I can't remember what else, it was quite a while ago....

Food was very nice, but every dish looked the same and was similar ingredients assembled in different ways. Service was polite but the restaurant manager was shouting at staff on the other side of the kitchen door 10ft away... not very professional. Lovely touch adding...

Whilst the surroundings at The Royal Crescent are pretty and the standard of the food served is very good, value for money is not. I love afternoon tea, and have tried many of the best in the country. When you pay over £25 per head,...

I booked this restaurant for an extremely special occasion, hoping that it would live up to its marketing as a beautiful and romantic place to eat. In spite of requesting that the table should be special - location, flowers, etc., this wan't done and we...

As a guest at the hotel, I am glad that I only ate once at the Dower House restaurant. The dining experience was severely hampered by the service on a Saturday evening. I was sorely disappointed from the start that the taster menu was not...

Afternoon tea at the Royal Crescent hotel is a great experience - it should be for £25 a head - but it's one to remember. The Crescent itself is very impressive, the views before you go in are great, staff are supremely courteous and the...

Afternoon tea at the Royal Crescent lacks the opulence and Georgian splendour of the Pump Rooms, but is very fine in every other way. On arrival we walked through the small foyer, out through the garden to an annexe at the back of the hotel....

We had several breakfasts here and two dinners. It's very well-done, innovative British/local food w/ a Scottish twist. And the attentive staff is impressively knowledgeable about everything that comes out of the kitchen. Well done!

Expensive, but good choices amongst local produce, with game, fish, meats, and vegetarian possibilities with inventive preparations. Good for foodies.

I visit Picnic Coffee every week for the delicious coffee and lemon drizzle cake. However, the staff just bring my order to the table and walk away without a word or a glance at me. Where are the staff other reviewers praise so highly?
