Fish batter was thick and therefore not cooked and inedible… soggy and really unpleasant When staff told he just said ‘I will let them know’ Not been back since, no apology or acknowledgement Try riverside they are much much better

I ordered a single large chips with a pot of mayo and a pot of ketchup to eat out and share with my son. I then asked for a bottle of water, for which I was asked to pay £1.30 for a small bottle. I promptly refused the extortionate price. To add, at the time there were 7 or more uniformed employees viable, with only 3 doing any work, the rest just siting around at the restaurant tables, with obviously nothing to do. To conclude, a total of £4.90 for my order (without water) is simply offensive when it was very apparent that the majority of staff were effectively doing nothing. (The chips were not bad)

We got a take away from here because we had enjoyed it in the past, a 20min drive away. I had cod roe which was as thin as a pancake, the chips were chewy didn't eat them, my partner cod and said was over cooked only ate half of it the rest went to the cat. Very disappointed 😞

Popped in here as we were attending a concert in town. Really wished we hadn’t bothered. Three pieces of fish and a “large” chips coming in at a shade under thirty pounds. The pieces of fish were all the same, the middle third was acceptable but the thirds at either end were as thin as a wafer and solid as a rock. The chips had obviously been through a chipper prior to cooking. I don’t mean a chip maker, I mean an industrial wood chipper. The resultant chips were all very small and overcooked in such a way that they resembled pieces of shrapnel that had razor sharp edges that when eaten had the potential to give lacerations to your internal organs. So, in summary, ten quid each for a third of an edible piece of fish and maybe half a dozen chips that didn’t necessitate a trip to the ENT department at the local hospital. I would say that the cheerful staff partially made up for the disappointment, but that would be a lie. A more miserable bunch it would be hard to find. That’s my lesson learnt.

Server approached early and we ordered drinks and asked for more time to choose food. Drinks delivered and server again asked for food order, we were still not ready. There were only two other customers eating in. Food arrived quickly, battered sausage , chips and curry sauce. Portion size was generous, curry sauce was good. Tasty sausage and light crispy batter. Premises including rest room were clean. Paid £30 for meal for two with soft drinks. You can purchase alcoholic drinks.

Staff is very friendly . Food was excellent. The place is generallyvery clean and tidy. Highly recommended. Best chipy in Stamford! I love it

it is so very good to be back hear and this time due to the law we are now allowed in and sit down for our meals it as bean a very long time since we were allowed inside pubs cafes and restaurants (ect)due to the CONVID-19 it still as rules to keep on entry which is a good thing you can now sit in the restaurant and enjoy your meal in safety the café is very nice bright and very clean and the meals are quite big they also have room up stairs as well the meals are brought to you nice and hot Stamford is a very nice Olden English town it has a very good MARKET on Fridays in the town centre well worth a visit

We have eaten here lots before and what was a great place to eat has become absolutely cheap and nasty. It must of either changed hands during lockdown as the same thing happened to the London Inn. I am sure the same family owned both before and when I went to the London in and scored the place a 3 the owner contacted me and made me visit again making the experience a 5. Please don't be fooled and think this is the same standard as before as its not. Either the owner sold it or they have decided to source cheap products and seel them under the same name as what it was before. Fish batter soggy, fish cake not home made and over cooked. Cheap sausage in battered sausage. Ots become that cheap fish and chips you get on a bad concil estate and it won't take long for the people of Stamford who remember the great quality from before to realise.

Just had cod and chips. Absolutely beautiful. It’s been years since I’ve had fish and chips cooked while you wait. Will definitely be back when you can sit in. We’re 22 miles away, but worth the drive.

Excellent fish and chips and great value for money! I messaged the restaurant in advance on their Facebook to check they were open, the team replied immediately and were very friendly about how to place our order during lockdown. We easily placed and paid for our order via their website and collecting the order was very easy! Best place for fish and chips in Stamford, no horrible greasy/oily taste and the mushy peas are amazing!

And you would like a great meal with a good menu ok look no where else in Stamford though do to CONVID -19 You are not allowed to sit down inside the restaurant but with your mask on go in when told place your order at the counter and pay for it you then have to wait in the street as it brought to you it is well pact in a box and put in a carrier bag and yes we will be back very soon to the great staff thank you and stay safe

ok we in Stamford today this is a very nice clean well set out place the fish was very good I was impressed with the two meals that one of my support workers and I had it came to us very nice fresh and hot it was well set out for the CONVID-19 you are shown your table but first you have to put your mask on and sanitize your hands then go to your table and a member of staff will come to you and take your order you have to write your details out on a form name (ect) i must award this restaurant a vote of EXCELLENTS both for the meal and for the very safe feeling we had during our meal P.S. I think next time we go we would like to have one lot of chips between us both as there was loads We Will Be Back soon

Ok so I am very harsh in reviews but this can’t be a coincidence that this business has something to do with the London inn which when I scored them a 3 out of 5 stars the next time I went made it a 5 star experience so I am blown away to find that this could probably be one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had and most certainly takeaway to my door. Me and my partner ordered your basic large cod and chip battered sausage and curry sauce. Fish great size and cooked fantastic no soggy batter. Chips came warm and I am pleased with curry sauce and the fact it’s not a cheap sausage which I hate. All this including a drink for £12.59 delivered to my door. Amazing. I have a good page in fb and can’t stress how happy i am that a business in food is hitting the standard and above well done !!

Used to be good years ago but not now . I’ve been twice recently and both times met by rude harshness , that woman is awful ! Food crap & expensive. Won’t ever be going again

Working in Stamford short term, so tried a couple of times recently for lunch takeaways and was OK, however, the lady working front of house/serving seriously lacks people skills, today requested a smaller portion of chips as would be unable to eat a whole portion with other items ordered. Was told in no uncertain terms that was impossible they could not provide a half portion, it was a full portion at £2 or nothing at all. Not open for discussion. Not even a smile. I do not believe I will ever return.

I have been visiting this Chip shop for years. After a short break away I returned and ordered my usual and waited patiently for my tea to arrive. And then it did. The gravy is not the same very watery quite tasteless the vinegar was watered down the chips where anaemic the lemon and parsley where not present on my plate as stated. The coffee tasted like washing up water. The overall look of the sit down area was a bit dirty and paint peeling of the wall. The smell from the toilet made me leave my food and the chip shop itself. I can honestly say I’m very disappointed and will definitely not return. Be aware if you visit this establishment.

Darker skinned woman who served me was incredibly rude. Chips were dry, no chicken and mushroom pies in stock. Cod was really greasy. Curry sauce was watery. 30p if you want the chips in a takeaway box rather than paper. No plastic cutlery only wooden fork things.The server had a terrible attitude. If you don’t want your job then leave and find another!!

Really my title says it all. Not a 'pouncy' chippie, but nice fresh cooked fish and chips at a very reasonable price. With a cup of tea, this is traditional British dish served in a traditional environment. Exactly what a chippie should be!

The batter on the fish was greasy and only tasted of oil, fish very thin, peas cold. Chips were dull, dry and unappetising. Some of the food was evidently reheated. Tried it but would not go again. It isn't cheap. It was nothing like other fish and chips we have had. Terrible in fact.

I would if given it a five as the quality of the food was great. However the service wasn’t good. The young girl looked like she was new. What was bad is that she seemed new to manners which to me is vital when fish and chips for 2 with a sausage cost more then £20

A lovely meal, good variety, staff were pleasant, portion sizes were ok, personal preference I would like a few more chips but ok. Again personal preference the teabags need looking at as I didn't enjoy the tea I had. The cod was lovely.

ok we in Stamford had a look round the very good Market (ect) then off for dinner i thought Fish and Chips i think and as we was near to the Model Fish Bar sounds good to me we had a very long time ago bean before and yes it was still a very nice clean cafe with a warm welcome and a very nice staff i must point out that my reviews are based on the day time week month (ect) how we find the cafes (ect) at the time of the reviews i give this Fish Bar a award of Excellents

Twice now I have been served by sullen non enthusiastic staff in the same month. First time I visited with my 11 year old son, while ordering I asked if he could use the toilet. There response was "sorry we've just mopped the floor". On my second visit I ordered two bags of chips without a word I waited ten minutes before they even informed there were no chips ready and had to cook some more. The food is good but the service they really need to have a good look at.

I have to say the Model chip bar is consistent in it's offerings. Always good, clean and simply a very convenient drop in chip shop.

I came to try this fish and chip shop for the first time today. As I walked into the fish and chip shop the staff just stared at me and not greet me with a hello. My first impressions weren't great. I then asked the staff some questions about the menu and food and got a very rude un interested answer. The fish and chips that I received was disappointing and I would not return to this fish and chip shop and I would not recommend anyone taking the time to go here. There was no knife and forks available and the staff did not want to know about the issues.

We had this chippie down as a must for out lunch for 10 people after our last visit there, The cod and haddock is still very good, but the plaice was double battered and double cooked, why do chippies do this? and the chips looked like they had been cooked earlier and left for latecomers to as they were barely warm and soft - a big disappointment overall after our previous visit,

We’ve been going to the Model Fish bad for around three years. When we first found out about it I’d go as far to say it was as good as any fish and chip shop I’d ever frequented. It became a staple place for us to take people visiting us.

I always enjoy my fish and chips from here, but next time I politely ask for a bag to put my take away food in I don't expect to have a scrumpled up bag thrown at me by a rude little girl along with the words 'there you go' as she turns her back and walks off. I don't expect Silver Service in a chippy but basic manners would be nice!

Chips never seem fresh, mushy peas are often half cooked, dry and Cold. They hardly ever have scraps. Give it a miss.

Im not sure what kind of secret recipie they use here, but when visiting stamford I always drop past this chip shop an never fails to dissapoint!

We have historically used this place, but the last 2 visits (no more) have been disappointing - not sure whether fryers or owners have changed, but chips greasy and poor and fish poor quality and chewy, also batter slightly soggy.

A truly great chip shop whether you’re sitting in or taking away. The usual chip shop delights are on offer (the chips are wonderful) but you can also indulge yourself with battered halloumi and panko calamari.

Having used the Model for a few years feel it is going downhill. The fish is greasy and bland and the portion control massively variable. Will leave it for a while to see if things improve.

We met with family for a catch up and a bit of lunch, this fitted the bill perfectly. The fish and chips went down very well and was freshly cooked, the price of £12 for two was good value, I would go again and recommend to anyone.

We visited this chip shop one night during the fair after being highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately our experience wasn't as pleasant. It was very busy, which was fine but the staff were stressed, snapping at each other and the chips didn't really taste of anything. One particular member of the staff was getting a really dressing down by a member of the team - I think her name was Katalina. She couldn't seem to do anything right. And this was infront of a busy shop. Unprofessional.

We called in on a Saturday night having been disappointed (I.e. Walked out) of a new restaurant on a Saturday evening. With no opportunity to get into anywhere else, we fell back on the nearby Model Fish bar. It was well cooked and nice tasty. You can sit down in the restaurant, but we chose to walk home and eat it there.

Use the Model every Friday and it's always great food - fresh and tasty ! Lovely staff too - always friendly and welcoming

Fish was so overcooked, old and lukewarm chips - altogether poor value (£25 for 3!) and quality. Not the usual cook, cooked the fish for so long, overly battered, completely spoilt it. Don't think we'll be back in a long time.

Good quality fish and chips, but a female member of staff has a very poor attitude to customers and is down right rude, this would appear from word of mouth from your customers a regular occurrence, you would do well to retrain or remove this person asap or lose custom.

This is a basic English fish and chip shop with small restaurant area. The service is fast and friendly. Food was freshly made and very wholesome. excellent for quick lunch . Great location in centre of the town.

The food is ok when you eventually get it. The same can't be said for the service. I waited 20 minutes tonight from the point of order to walking out with my takeaway. The front of house staff are at best incompetent the chef shouted through at least 3 times my chicken was ready, finally resorting to coming out himself a telling them the guy who been standing over there for ages is waiting for this. The chef was then told by me that I was still waiting for other items he apologised saying he wasn't told so I'd have to wait another 5 minutes while he cooked it. Once ready I was again asked by the girl who took my original order what I was waiting for for the 3rd time. The front of house staff are very polite but dont a clue what they doing. Sorry the Model but you've lost a customer.

We visited this charming old township and decided to have fish and chips for lunch. We were served very quickly with a smile, and received all food promptly. I had a breaded plaice with chips and mushy peas, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were so helpful and friendly, they even gave me extra gravy and curry sauce to try! With such good value meal and sitting down restaurant, I'd happily recommend to anyone. Thank you!

I came here and ordered a large chips sausage and gravy and a bacon cheeseburger the bill came to £7.50 and a 50p charge for paying on card. There is seating inside. I thought it was a strange set up that everything came wrapped up individually and the chips came in paper even though I'd ordered gravy.

I always seem to end up in here when I go into Stamford for gigs or a few pints. Great food, sit down waitress service if you want it. A chip with a good range of choice, which actually can do the basics well.

Really good fish-and-chip takeaways are hard to find these days but this one is tops! Our cod was freshly fried in a light crispy batter and the generous single portion of chips ample for two. The meal was served in a convenient box for ease of eating on the go. Cheap as chips with great fish to boot!!!

This chippy is still the best in town! We have been back a number of times despite there being a chippy five muni the walk from us. Best fish, best chips, best chicken and best value.

In an earlier review I praised this establishment as a takeaway. Because of this, we visited again last week, this time to sample the eat-in experience. We were shown to seats and given menus. We were then left sitting like lemons for over twenty minutes. No order taken, nothing. This despite the waitress taking orders for takeaway customers and chatting on her phone ad infinitum. We were totally ignored. Suffice to say we walked out, and will not be returning. They've lost a regular takeaway customer too.

Others come and go, but the Model Fish Bar remains through the decades giving Stamfordians and visitors quality fish and chips.So glad this place still exists. Great service, great food and I only have one criticism. Chips aren't 15p for a small bag, and 20p for a big bag like they were back when I first started eating here in the summer of '81. Then again, The Specials "Ghost Town" is no longer in the charts, and my Harrington jacket is long gone.The fact The Model Fish Bar is still in business after all these years must tell you something. Put simply it is Stamford Fish and Chip royalty. I'll have extra scraps on mine please!

Well a very busy night due to the fair being in town but this doesn't mean standards should fall, the girls in there all have long hair, and although they have it tied back this did not stop the girls hair falling into the box, that she was putting my fish and chips in, and she didn't like the fact that I made her start again, making sure her hair was no where near it, They should be made to wear hairnets as well as those hats.

We had takeaway fish and chips from here and you could tell the fish was really fresh, the chips were cooked perfectly and the portion sizes were just right.

Need I say any more best fish and chips in town we won't go any where else now we have found this place.

We have bought takeaway, eaten in and this place never fails to deliver .... good portion size and a kids menus - so you don't have to spend a fortune. Friday night, 4 hungry tired people, popped to the model for a change only because we were close (normally use Brittania chip shop)Got the food home (in town) food almost cold, 3 soggy battered sausages, supposedly a large portion of chips (only half of what you get at Brittania) all the chips were soggy and stuck to the bag, they forgot to put our 2 portions of curry sauce in, but managed to charge for them! The ONLY decent thing was the chicken burger, I rang them to give them feedback and the man on the phone didn't really understand English speaking people?! So when I said I wouldn't be returning he said thank you sir!!! Classic!!My tip would be only to use this place when your drunk!!!Local Stamford family

Stamford has seen many chippes come and go over the years but this one has remained solid. This is down to one reason...cracking chips! Simple!

Great location for this chip shop that has a wide selection of fish for take out or to dine in. Light and crispy batter with fat chips. The large is huge so getting the smaller size is advisable.

Tasty, fresh cooked fish and chips with all the usual options. Just what you want. You can also sit down for a meal in the restaurant, much improved since it was recently refurbished.

Given the number of great restaurants and take aways in Stamford, the fish and chip shops are pretty awful. This place, and the Riverside, are the only exceptions. I really wouldn't like to choose between them, but The Model does open in the evenings and is marginally closer to the centre of town. Finding a parking place on Broad St is always hard though, regardless of the time.

Came into Stamford for first time in years. Was looking for somewhere to eat inside as we had our 10 month baby with us. They had a high chair for our boy. We ordered chicken breast burger with chips and curry sauce, cup of tea and a vimto. We were served a nice portion on our plates. I have to say the chips here are great, A nice crisp to them and the burgers where really tasty too. As places go in Stamford to get a sit down meal for £12 this is somewhat a gem. Service could have been a little better to be made more welcome however food came out fast and I can't really fault this for the food and price. Well worth a visit.

Despite the rapid change in staff at front of house, the service remains almost the same. Last tues had great food but was not offered the free drink advertised when one purchase a burger. However, it's clean, service is speedy, food is wonderful and well priced.

On a day trip to Stamford, we found ourselves cold and hungry. A sandwich wouldn't suffice. We needed proper food. An A-board positioned down the High Street led us to the Model Fish Bar on Broad Street. The recently re-modelled restaurant exceeded our expectations. For a set price of £12 we sat down to cod, chips and mushy peas with a mug of tea - and that was for both of us! The service was excellent, the facilities spotlessly clean and we couldn't recommend it more highly. A lovely lunch.
