The Mine at CF47 & Castelany's Fine Dining in Merthyr Tydfil

Do not recommend! We visited Carnivore in Asia last night (26/3) as a group of 6 to celebrate a birthday. We had a booking for 7pm, and arrived on time, by 7.20/30 we'd ordered - the waitress (who was lovely!) explained that food would arrive at different times, which was fine, we expected a 'Wagamama style' service where once it's cooked it's brought out. Instead we waited almost an hour for the 'Small plates' which all arrived together, but there was still no sign of the large plates or sides. We didn't order the small plates as starters but as tapas style mains (which is how they're designed), so half the table was eating and half were still waiting. After another 30-40 minutes, the rest of the food arrived and was really disappointing. One person's chicken was completely cold, as if it had just come out of the fridge and had to be sent back. Every noodle dish was lukewarm and bland, and the ribeye steak was dreadful, tiny and dry. The waitress was very apologetic and removed a round of drinks from the bill, but we have all woken up feeling unwell the next day. Likely down to poorly heated food. Waiting 1.5+ hours midweek for awful food, and spending £25-30 per head to feel unwell the next day was not how we wanted to celebrate our friends birthday! Avoid!!

Our first time visiting Carnivore in Asia and we were not disappointed. Food was absolutely on point and everything we expected it to be after looking at pictures and videos. The setting was just beautiful and the services was great. We were checked on more than once and nothing was to much trouble. Will definitely be returning

Putting a few Asian dishes on the menu does not make a restaurant Asian. Moreover, they were so poorly prepared. My “Shaking Chicken” had me woken up at 3am dying of thirst, an indication that a lot of MSG was probably in my dish. That was after I had a big glass of Diet Pepsi at the table because I had to drink something to wash the food down! The fried chicken pieces were fried till bone dry and served soaked in an over-the-top soya lime dressing. It was supposed to be served with fresh salad accordingly to the menu description but I didn’t get any shred of salad with mine! The basmati rice was blend and taste of nothing. My friend ordered their Thai red curry and it was nothing to shout about. We left the restaurant rather quickly after as its flaming red flowers in dim lighting setting has started to bring on a potential headache.

The food was a big let down. Service great with lovely staff though. An attempt to do Asian food but with little knowledge of Asian dishes. T Bone steak was ordered medium but came out well - staff were very understanding and I got another one - but it was under.

Fantastic evening celebrating a anniversary and birthday, great food and brilliant customer service thank you to keelyn and staff very professional and very friendly, we will be back again soon x

Booked our table for 6 PM ordered food and drinks and the food was already out by 6:10 thought it was odd but then thought nothing much of it. Got home around 7, 2 hours later my boyfriend is having migraines and projectile vomiting. I was also sick after my food but not as bad as him. Don’t recommend

Beautiful food and amazing service from Brandon and Beatrice!

No heating on a freezing cold January day and they don't sell hot drinks. Food lukewarm served on an unwarmed stainless steel tray. Paid extra for a large pig in blanket and the bacon was burned to a crisp. Stuffing ball was bland, burned, and seemed to be mostly breadcrumbs. Mint sauce served with the beef roast dinner - why?? Fine Dining it is not!!! Will not be returning.

Food was lovely, we have been here a few times staff are pleasant and helpful. The only thing we noticed this time was the actual restaurant could do with a good freshening up. Some of the seats could do with replacing my husband had to change his chair as it was rocking all over the place.

Great Sunday roast. The service was a bit slow but our waitress was great, oh and the restaurant was a bit cold. If they could sort those 2 issues then it would be a 5 star rating because the food was on point!

Our first visit to The Mine in Merthyr and it will certainly not be the last. Our visit was on a Sunday so we had the Sunday lunch. It was delicious, really tasty and large portions (way too big for me). The staff were absolutely amazing, really friendly and helpful. Give yourselves a round of applause guys, you most definitely deserve it 👏👏

It was our first time visiting today and we enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch. The food was delicious and the service from Beatrice was great. We will definitely return, I highly recommend😊

Food was reasonable but had Sunday lunch beef and no horseradish which is odd but mint sauce??? Work that out? Spuds were hit and miss but service was good and friendly too. Paid for the extra sausage which was disappointing, it was like a half and over done. Bit on the expressive side taking this into account.

We had a Sunday lunch there recently. The food was exceptional, (you don't need a starter). My only gripe is it went cold quickly so could have done with being served warmer. Also there isn't a lot of gravy. The gravy pots are only half filled. If you ask for it to be filled you have to pay for additional gravy. Teas and coffees would be a great addition to the drinks menus. I'd definitely go again however. Tom our waiter was great. All staff very attentive

Had a fantastic bottomless brunch myself and three family members couldn't fault the the food.the waitress called Beatriz was absolutely fabulous 🤩

My friends and I went for food today. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was enjoyable. I must mention the one thing that made our experience a 100/10 was the OUTSTANDING service from Beatriz. She was very attentive and was great with us, and even though she was by herself she never failed to ensure that my table, and I noticed that all her tables were constantly seen to and had a great experience!! Our table was never missing anything we needed. Just for her, we would come back. The only negative I have is the lack of comfortable chairs, please upgrade.

Only a small little place but definitely packs a punch, food was fantastic usual and looking forward to going back.

First time visiting the Merthyr restaurant as I've previously visited Neath. Three of us went for the Sunday lunch, which was lovely. A decent portion and very tasty. The orange cake for desert was 10/10, I would come back for this alone!! The restaurant is super clean, warm and inviting. The service was quick and it wasn't busy which was great. The only reason we'd give it 4 rather than 5 is that the portion size received, we felt didn't exactly match those of pictures we'd seen advertised and the 'large butchers pig in blanket' we added as extra, was more of a cocktail sausage... We didn't expect we would be able to eat desert too. Either way, I would still return :)

Had a very lovely experience on the 7th December 2024. My friends and I went for bottomless brunch. The food was amazing, and the drink selection was fantastic. I am a vegetarian, and the manager asked me what selection of food I would like, which was amazing! Would definitely come here again.

Staff were lovely but the 30 strong pissheads upstairs jumping up and down and strolling down to the bar ruined the experience and the food wasn't great, it's not got a touch on the other Italian down the road

We recently visited the mine for a works night out. We were seated and drinks arrived pretty quickly. They were very accommodating with mostly everyone tweaking their orders. The staff were polite and friendly, even getting us a heater as some of the party were cold. Great value for money

Second visit this evening and again beautifully presented food which tasted out of this world! Staff are efficient, friendly and create a fun and happy atmosphere in the restaurant! The Minr has become one of my favourite places to eat and I would 100% recommend for a great evening out with amazing food!

What a lovely night food was amazing and carys was fantastic she could not do enough for you she was rushed off her feet but still had time to have a good laugh with us and make our night thank you to her what a lovely young lady

I recommend that you take a coat to The Mine, especially if you are seated upstairs as it's absolutely freezing. Had only sat down for less than a minute & staff were over to take our drinks order, we hadn't even looked at the drinks list!. Asked her to come back in 10 mins. Drinks arrived & about 15 minutes later the same waitress came to take our food order, I explained we hadn't had any menus yet. Anyway food arrived, good portion size but temperature was just warm. I prefer my food hot but wasn't going to send it back as I didn't want it put in a microwave. Music so loud too, struggled to have a conversation with the others on my table. Value for money was OK but won't be returning until they sort out the heating.

We went to the Mine for the first time this evening (29th October 2024). Firstly the staff, although young, were superb, very pleasant, polite and friendly and are a credit to the establishment. The food was excellent and the portions are very hearty. Neither of us could finish our meals but they kindly boxed up whst we couldn't eat to take home.

Food was lovely! From a table of 5 not one of us had a complaint with the food. The gent dealing with us was great friendly and upsold us to the shovel upgrade (not sure if it actually cost more as he didn't mention any additional cost) But either way it was a nice little touch having food served on a shovel. I'd happily visit again as there's a few things on the menu I'd like to try. Atmosphere was nice, but it was awfully loud and I didn't realise how loud until we left and you could still hear everyone talking etc outside 🤣 I'd have given The Mine 5 stars but their dessert options were very limited and I chose a Sundae which they couldn't fulfil because they didn't have any ice-cream. So given the limited dessert options and the inability to fulfil the order on a pretty basic dessert I've knocked it down 1 star, sorry.

First time visiting The mine CF47 and we were not disappointed! From entering the restaurant the staff were very welcoming, Tom our server was amazing, as was Harry his colleague! Nothing was to much trouble for them. The food was amazing! I had a steak and when we go out for food my husband always dreads me ordering it as I’m so fussy. But I have nothing but praise for the food, the steak was cooked amazingly. The restaurant was immaculately clean and you can see the kitchen from the dining area upstairs which is a nice little bonus! All in all we had an amazing experience and we will definitely be back again! The only down side is that they don’t accept tips via card so make sure if you’d like to give a tip you have some cash with you as the staff definitely deserve it! Thank you all for a lovely evening

Outstanding food for a great pricw

Visited last night and was served by the lovely Tom, who was very cheerful and helpful. Food was delicious and having it served on the shovel was fun. Will deffinatly visit again.

Booked in last minute last night for dinner with my husband (7pm) not been here before. We ordered beef brisket spring rolls to share for start. They were tasty. I ordered 10oz rump for main and he had beef brisket burger and some sides. We opted to upgrade to triple cooked chips. 9/10 I order steak when I go out, I ribeye is usually my go to so slightly disappointed when it wasn’t on the menu. The rump came out, I could tell it was going to be delicious. I can honestly say it was the best rump I’ve had!! My husband throughly enjoyed his burger. We were very impressed with the quality of food and everything was flavourful. Thank you so much! We were served by a young lady, she was very polite, made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us a couple of times for drinks. We will definitely be returning, also suggested to family members to go!! Things to improve: we were cold!! It was chilly inside and I had to wear my coat. The restaurant is quite dark inside so to make it a cosy inviting atmosphere turn up the heating and the music! It would be a 10/10 place if you did this. So impressed and will be back. Thank you so much :)

Lovely service value for money . Delicious food

Ordered the triple cooked chips, expected them to be crispy however came soggy. Also ordered the garlic mushrooms these came cold, the bread it came with was rock hard and inedible. Would not order again. Very disappointed.

Lovely food, good portions only disappointment the garlic bread was like a pizza bace with garlic butter on, in my opinion this is Not garlic bread. Staff always nice.

Staff were very friendly, place was very clean and tidy, the waitresses Carys and Beatrice were fab, the food was amazing and the man who cooked the steak I don't know his name but carys does cooked it to perfection and my daughter said it was the best steak she had ever had, we will definitely be back again 😀

After at least 3 previous visits where food and service was nothing less than 10/10, we visited last night for a joint birthday celebration and I couldn't judge it to be no more than a 2/10. The menu had changed drastically and to the guests and I this was a negative point.. no fillet steak, no salmon or seafood dish ☹️.. we felt that there was mixed opinions on food ordered.. (2 starters) filled Yorkshires was tasteless the cheesy bites were delicious, steaks and gammon was well over marinated, the pepper was so over powering, one had to be returned ( changed eventually to lasagne) and the rest were edible I suppose but not enjoyable. The chicken in the tikka and honey balls was poor quality. We ordered garlic mushrooms starter as a side to our steaks and for the price the portion was ridiculous.. our table was booked for 6pm as young children attended, although it was approximately 7.30 pm before the children's meals were served after complaining that they were hungry and getting tired... The waitress did ask after serving was all ok in fairness and to my regret I said nothing at that time (although it was just as meals were served) and I was later asked by the manager my opinion, where I did say everything I've wrote here, a free drink and desert was offered.. although on return to the table it was only for one guest... So disappointed and dissatisfied I won't be returning for a future meal.. not a restaurant for fine dining any longer sadly and I feel this is a shame.

Amazing food, ridiculously big portions! Very rare that I fail a mixed grill but this one was just too big! Delicious all the same though! Staff very friendly and attentive! My one criticism would be the seats. The first seat I had was ripped and alot of the padding was missing out of it, very uncomfortable, changed it for another seat that wasn't that much more comfortable but it was still better than the first one. The food and the service though is outstanding. Would definitely eat here again 👌🏻

Absolutely shocking place to go for food meatball starter no taste and dry my daughters steak was terrible.my gammon was awful and the staff haven't got a clue what they're doing or who's in charge wouldn't recommend the place to any one.

Honestly, lovely places, our servers Beatrice, Layla, and Tom (i think they were the names, sorry if they weren't) were absolutely lovely people. great energy in there too. sat down and immediately got served drinks, very patient and happy staff. the burger i had was a bit dry but easily fixed with sauce, stunning foot, amazing service, and great service, definitely recommend if you're looking for an evening out with family or friends, 10/10

Very disappointing. Limited menu, very different to the menu online. When enquiring none of the staff knew what I was talking about, they went off to look online at their menu! They said they hadn't served the lobster in months. Burgers very dry and left a strange after taste. No salad or sauce on them either. Cold drinks also served warm. Better off in a Wetherspoons!

The service I had tonight was absolutely amazing and the food was out of this world and the cocktails were absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this place anytime. And a special shout out to all the kitchen staff for amazing food and also beatrice, carys and all the staff who went out of their way to make our night extra enjoyable.

Really enjoyed the Mine with family, service was great, however, the wait between starters and main was too long and the wine needs to be colder. Definitely will return.

Was lovely and quiet despite dining at 7pm on a Saturday. Pre-booked a table for 2. We was greeted at the door by the lovely staff, Josh and Carys. Josh showed us to our table and Tom took our order and he was really lovely and a total gentleman. The staff here are so amazing and so friendly big thank you to their amazing hospitality. Me and my Mrs had the salt and pepper chilli chicken and it was so filling and tasty😋 We had no room for dessert as we were so full and the price was very affordable with the portions very satisfying. Thank you to all the staff for such a wonderful restaurant😊

A lovely welcome from Beatrice, a pleasant dining room with good atmosphere and a great menu, especially for meat eaters. The platter for 2 was incredible, not the amount of food but the quality and flavour of each meat cut was excellent. Great place for a lovely meal out.

Meh, very disappointed this time and won’t return again. Went around a year ago for a bottomless brunch which I couldn’t fault but this time was very disappointing. Starter meatballs were very bland and flavourless. Main was freezing cold, looked like packet chicken that could be bought in Asda and chips were hard as rocks that were covered in seasoning but just tasted like powder. Made waitress aware of the issues but was just apologised but couldn’t do anything. Over 80% of the food was left as was not enjoyable and the meal cost us over £65 for 2. The presentation and quantity of the food is definitely what sells this place, for sure not the quality.

Wonderful service from Carys. Food was exactly what we had heard about, plentiful and hearty. Come with an appetite and try the shovels!
