The Millstone Public House in Peterborough

We had a freshly made, beautifully presented and plentiful afternoon tea. The GF version was delicious too. Thank you.

We had a large table for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and the service was very good. We were very happy with our meal.

A disappointing meal for a family of two couples. We ordered a meat burger and pork belly and 2 vegetarian butternut squash and chick pea curries. We asked if the pork belly would be crisply cooked to which the answer was yes. The pork belly rind as presented was inedible as it was so chewy it couldn’t be cut. This was mentioned to the waitress who reportedly would let the chef know. The curry was bland and hardly tasted of curry and the Nans that came with it small and stale. I ordered bread and butter pudding which seemed to have been heated in a microwave (hot on the inside and cold on the outside) which was stodgy and bland. The stale Nans were mentioned on paying the bill as was the disappointing pork belly. At no time did anyone offer apologies. Needless to say no tip was given. We have been a few times to the Millstone and were so disappointed as normally we have been very satisfied. The curry was £18 totalling £36 for two - Hello Fresh do far superior curries and you get 6 meals for the same price - surely the chef can compete with mass produced recipe delivered food? Was the normal chef on a night off as this wasn’t very good cuisine for a pub that is normally great?

Beautiful country pub. Visited in March on a sunny day. Excellent service and food with a lovely outdoor seating area. Highly recommend!

Expensive for what's it worth. Came for dinner and drinks not too impressed for the price. Staff was preoccupied and didn't seem friendly or helpful. Was quite rude and abrupt one member staff. We spent alot money but was disappointed.

Sunday Lunch 24 March. Had to ask for service as none forthcoming after 20 minute wait but thereafter service was quite good and friendly which sadly, did not match the food. I had triple meat lunch and the port an d lamb were tough and needed a steak knife to cut them, plus the pork was on the dry side, Lamb was chewy and I really did not know I was eating lamb. (Coincidentally another traveller said same thing on an earlier post), Deserts were very small and not good value at £7. Great atmosphere but not tempted to go back in a rush.

We visited the Millstone last Saturday for a family meal .What a gorgeous cosy pub.On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and the evening just got better. The food and wine was delicious (amazing wine list ) .My daughter did get beaten by the fish and chips , otherwise all clean plates .The staff were all attentive and very professional .i would highly recommend a visit, you will not be disappointed .Thank you to all for a fabulous evening .

Took my Mum for an amazing Mother's day meal, fantastic size portions, chicken liver parfait and beef were both sensational. Such attention to detail from a top class chef. Its also a beautiful place to eat with professional and attentive staff. Will definitely be going back. Thank you everyone for making my Mums day so special.

I’ve eaten here on numerous occasions with my husband and friends. It’s a lovely clean and cosy pub with friendly staff and the food has always been great. My only negative on my last visit was the tiramisu wasn’t as you would expect tiramisu to be (a light coffee layered dessert). It had a stodgy cake consistency with tiramisu filling; we couldn’t finish it.

We have been to The Millstone on many occasions, and each time it’s been faultless. Our last meal on Sunday was delicious. We all had different roasts with one friend opting for fish and chips. Our roasts were plentiful, tasty and my lamb tender. My veggie friend said it was one of the best roasts she’d had in a long time. Service is always great and welcoming. Tip - book ahead as weekends are busy. The Cauliflower cheese is a must!

Booked for 5 well in advance. At last min was informed restricted menu. seated in good time, staff excellent. very friendly. menu limited. Drinks good, Surroundings good, decor nice. Price mid to high. would go back but not rushed.

Very disappointing Sunday Lunch. Food came piled high on the plate, hard to see what you were eating as it was smothered in a dark tasteless gravy. One of the group dislikes red cabbage and as it was at the bottom of the pile of food it tainted everything. One persons Lamb was tough and inedible. Towards the end of the meal a couple came in with two very large dogs. They sat directly behind us and the dogs gave off an awful odour which made it unpleasant. The dogs also made it impossible for members of our party to leave the table as they were taking up the whole of the walkway. Sadly we won't be returning.

I was celebrating a very big birthday this weekend and booked the Millstone Lounge for a private party Saturday night and then 4 of us had Sunday lunch. The Lounge is a great party venue. We had 43 friends eating, drinking and disco dancing from 7pm until almost midnight. The buffet food was fantastic. Great quality and quantity. The kitchen team, led by Sam did a first rate job. Equally top class were the Lounge bar staff, James and Will. They couldn't have done any better. Very professional, attentive, polite and always smiling.Kept the drinks flowing all night. The guests loved it! Then onto Sunday lunch. The 4 of us each had different roasts and there was not a single problem with any of them. Well presented, well cooked, more than ample portions, all with very tasty gravy. Then washed down with a great Tiramisu. This pub does excellent Sunday lunches at a very good price. Been several times over the last 2+ years and never disappointed. Chef Sam excelled again.

Four of us went for lunch 25th February . They served a meal covered in black sludge called gravy. The veg underneath was cold, the Yorkshire boulder sized rock hard and cold. The staff were good but the management disinterested, they should sack the incompetent chef . Cost £75 for nothing just for drinks and a shared fish and chips all roast food sent back, used to go there a lot, food standard has gone down hill . We won’t go back.

The Millstone at Barnack restaurant is a stunning beautiful, traditional old building, which is totally modern and well looked after inside. The ambiance is lovely. I went for a Sunday roast and it’s the best one I’ve ever had. Great value for money. The portions are enormous and perfectly cooked. Also, the service was outstanding. The staff kindly took the time to show me around the inside and out and also suggested a wine I have never tried, which was perfect to my palette. Will definitely be returning.

Following a recommendation, we attended the pub for dinner on Saturday. The atmosphere was lovely, a true country pub. The staff were friendly and professional. The wine and mains were delicious. However, the Pear & Apple Mille-fuille stole the show. I was blown away by the presentation, exquisite. Three layers of delicate, flaky pastry that melted in your mouth. The crisp, fresh pear and apple amazingly cut into the tiniest cubes I have ever seen. I will 100% be back alongside recommending the pub to friends and family.

We found this pub fairly expensive for what it was, though the food was well presented and the menu comprehensive. Of particular interest, though, is the abilty of being able to accommodate groups in relatively private surroundings.

We had the 3 course menu last Wednesday evening. In complete contrast to one reviewer whose comments seem to have "disappeared"we both thought it was excellent. Between us we had 6 different courses, including the sea bream, which was very good. Other couples in the pub were also very complimentary. Quite what some people expect of a 3-course meal for £22 is sometimes beyond belief. If the pub the unhappy reviewer raved about is that good, then stay there and don't come back to the Millstone. The rest of us will continue to support an excellent gastropub.

This is a lovely English country pub. The courtyard at the back is great for a drink in the sunshine. Friendly, helpful staff. I've had the vegetarian dishes on 2 occasions, and they've both been delicious. I had the pumpkin ravioli yesterday, would definitely recommend!

We went for lunch with family. We ordered our drinks and then food with a friendly waitress. Drinks arrived OK... But then waited and waited.... And waited for food..... I am sure it was 25mins before the starter came... Minus plates which we had to ask for. No problem with the starters. 2 main courses came out and we waited for the third for a few more minutes. The pie and the cod were good. However the Monkfish was inedible. It was stringy and chewy. We sent it back. The waitress came back and in a rather condescending way asked my wife If she had Monkfish before. We are in our 60's and have eaten this all over the world. We know when an overcooked fish has been served. The chef should have come out and not sent the poor waitress. The childish couple on the next table ensured we heard their comments about compliments to their friend the chef for an exquisite off the menu lunch. Good for them. My wife then was served with the pie which was in her opinion underwhelming. Such a shame. Lovely surroundings..... Great sounding menu. A 10% discount and apology was given for our disapointing experience.

My husband, sister and I went for Sunday lunch as an informal birthday lunch for them both. I've had Sunday lunch at The Millstone once before and it was delicious and the service superb - they were very busy and we were eating towards the end of the lunch session but there was no dip in quality or attention whatsoever. Today was no different! It is a pub restaurant with a really stylish and attractive interior with a wonderful ambiance - buzzy but also calm. Once again the food was excellent (roast beef for two of us and beer battered cod for one) and the quality of the desserts surpass their humble description on the menu - they are delicious! My husband was also very impressed by the wine list and he's pretty fussy. Their Gin Menu was also fabulous (next time!) Exceeding everything else was the sheer standard of the staff - absolutely first class!! There was a good number of them at front of house (4) which makes such a difference and, although young,they had obviously all been superbly well trained as they were simply wonderful - attentive, polite, charming and efficient. Absolutely delightful. When we left (as very very happy customers) we passed many other happy customers having drinks out in the pretty courtyard - mostly with their dogs as this area is supremely dog friendly - and there is also a separate cafe and lounge open Weds to Sat which we'll definitely be visiting asap! Millstone (and your owners and staff) - you rock!

What a delight to discover the Millstone - it looks great, serves fantastic food, a dangerously enticing wine list and charming staff. The Wednesday menu is brilliant value. I think this week is our third in a row! Would highly recommend.

We have been going to the Millstone for a.long time but the new Table d'Hote menu on a Wednesday evening is a fantastic recent innovation. The menu is changed every week and you get three courses for £22, which is fantastic value, there are three choices for every course (including vegetarian option), the portion size is just right and the quality of food and cooking is exceptional. There were five of us last Wednesday and we tried most things on the menu between us and every option was excellent, we particularly liked the burrito and the goujons. Combine the food with great service and a great wine list and you have a winning combination, we will definitely be back for more Wednesday evenings.

The menu is super simple but nice if done well,! however the food did taste like it had been pre-prepared and heated up, the burritos were dry and not offered any sour cream or mayonnaise, nothing to accompany them just burritos! My friend had the cheesecake which was awful, warm soggy mousse rather than cheesecake. The service is ok, very friendly and nice.
